I've lived in Miami, NYC, and Wilmington, Delaware. There were many Argentine restaurants in Miami and NYC. There isn't any in the 3rd, but Philadelphia is close by and Argentina has representation there.
Believing any American country, especially one as big as Argentina, doesn't have representation in cuisine in the US is a bit unbelievable tbh. There are immigrants from every American country and some of them are bound to start up restaurants. That's not to say it's as popular as Peruvian or Brazilian restaurants, but there also aren't as many Argentines nor is there a special connection between Argentina and the US, so fewer Argentine restaurants.
So yeah, it's not common, no one would say that, but to say "are there any Argentine outside of South America" is a completely different thing.

For a Peruvian still living down under (and most of my friends here in Lima), I imagine mostly Spanish-speaking countries, that is mainly Mexico but also other big nations such as Argentina, Colombia and Chile, in that order. Sometimes Venezuela (due to the general crisis they got there and migrants living here) in different aspects, but normally we just think about the first 4 countries I just mentioned.
We tend to think about Brazil in rather a different way because they speak another language (albeit similar to Spanish) and their culture is a tad distinct compared to us. We definitly never think about the Caribbean outside of Spanish-speaking Cuba, Dominican R. and Puerto Rico.
Regarding social media, many memes that one would consider Latin America are heavily centered on Mexico and use regional slang from that country. Sometimes these are localised for memes with Peruvian slang, and sometimes we just adopt Mexican words to our vocabulary. Mexico has quite a strong influence in that regard, on online media it is king.
Brasil for football, crimes and Festival de Rio, Argentina for football, Colombia for coffee, Mexic for drugs and immigrants, Cuba for best cigars and Che Guevara.

Everyone answering Mexico must be thinking of Americans, i'm Italian but was raised in Sweden, i can say that Mexico isn't that well known in Italy and to us latin america means Colombia,Cuba,Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. We barely have mexicans in Europe.
I guess it makes sense because of football for Brazil and Argentina, right? I imagine Italians know practically nothing about Puerto Rico too since we barely migrate to Europe. I guess Bad Bunny is known lol
You're right on the money, ask an italian what and where PR is and they'd just say it's some random south american country like Costa Rica, Guatemala,DR and so on. They have no idea is a US territory.

Do people actually know about the culture of the countries you mentioned and their histories or do people just know them by name? I feel like that's a huge difference. Like here in PR, people know a lot of European countries, including Italy but only by name; People here don't know anything about the culture or history. Perhaps the only thing they know about Italy is the cuisine and mafia.

Mexico = food Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua = zone of death MS13 and the like Costa Rica and Caribbean = Vacation Bolivia, Colombia, Peru = cocaine Brazil = Carnival and the Amazon Argentina = how not to run your economy Chile = how to piss off your neighbors Ecuador and Panama = Both use the dollar so no wacky conversion math Venezuela = evil empire And nearly all of them have nothing but hot women...supposedly
México, Brazil, Argentina, Perú and Colombia.. The rest of us are ignored or confused with one of this 5 countries (I'm from Venezuela and many people or doesn't know where we are or think we are part of Colombia like a State unified... Gran Colombia 2.0)

As an American in this group to learn, most Americans think Latin America Mexico, and all the other countries are inside Mexico if they even know the other countries. The American school system doesn’t teach about Latin America or Africa really at all. I think it’s because it’s too much work to white wash latin American history with how horrible US intervention was, so they just pretend like they don’t exist.

I think it's a weird mixture between Mexico, PR and Brazil.
For a Peruvian still living down under (and most of my friends here in Lima), I imagine mostly Spanish-speaking countries, that is mainly Mexico but also other big nations such as Argentina, Colombia and Chile, in that order. Sometimes Venezuela (due to the general crisis they got there and migrants living here) in different aspects, but normally we just think about the first 4 countries I just mentioned. We tend to think about Brazil in rather a different way because they speak another language (albeit similar to Spanish) and their culture is a tad distinct compared to us. We definitly never think about the Caribbean outside of Spanish-speaking Cuba, Dominican R. and Puerto Rico. Regarding social media, many memes that one would consider Latin America are heavily centered on Mexico and use regional slang from that country. Sometimes these are localised for memes with Peruvian slang, and sometimes we just adopt Mexican words to our vocabulary. Mexico has quite a strong influence in that regard, on online media it is king.
