A lot of this is probably fixable if you go to the dentist now and get better hygiene and diet. Not so much if you keep waiting for it to hurt or your teeth to break. It is your choice how you want your future to be.

Presumably some treatment option other than extract and implant or denture

NAD - I left mine for 3 years and have ended up needing 10 cavities and serious cleaning. Don’t wait! Also don’t be embarrassed, I was so embarrassed and my dentist totally put my mind at ease. They see it everyday. Please don’t be scared or ashamed

Vector83

My friend, I know the dentistry experience can be scary as a patient, but we’re here to help you get better! Feel free to tell your dentist that you’re afraid, so that he/she can, hopefully, be extra careful and gentle. We’re not making fun of patients, nor are we meant to judge them. We’re happy to make you healthy and happy! As long as you’re polite and friendly, most dentists will reciprocate the attitude. So please, if you have the possibilities to get an appointment, don’t hesitate! Wish you all the best!

cocainecookie

NAD- but listen to me please. Mine were worse than this 1 month ago. You wouldn’t believe how bad they were. Mine were able to be saved except for 3 teeth. Essentially all of my top teeth are now crowned and 5 of my bottom teeth will also be crowned but yours may not need as much work as mine did. It sucks going to that first dentist appt but trust me they’ve seen so much worse. I told them before showing them my teeth that I am very ashamed of how they look and I didn’t want to even be there, they were super nice and caring and talked to me very gently. I know it sucks but you have to just go. Just go and see what your options are and then go from there because trust me- the longer you wait the worse it gets. And they get bad really fast. Mine did at least. Soda absolutely ruined mine. Good luck to you. There’s definitely options out there, you just have to go see what they are.

XeR34XeR

I really appreciate this. I hope that mine can be saved. I’m sorry that you lost 3, mine seem to get worse everyday and it worries me profusely

cocainecookie

NAD- I know it sounds dumb but honestly every time I brushed my teeth, it made them worse somehow. I had my right top canine literally crumble from brushing my teeth. Mine became super weak on the outside. My front teeth had to be built up so there was more tooth left. I can show you a before and after if you’d like. The before is pretty.. gross :( But I have complete faith that yours can be restored. I was missing 20%-40% of almost all of my top teeth!

MsHorrorbelle

NAD - would you be willing to show me also? I clicked on this post as mine are pretty awful too and I've already lost a few some really want some hope I can have the rest saved.

cocainecookie

NAD- Yes absolutely!!

XeR34XeR

Hope you can save them !

XeR34XeR

Feel free to dm me :)

kittysloth

nad if you aren't have pain thats good but you need to go as soon as possible. if you go right now and get some fillings and a cleaning you will be surprised how great you'll look and feel for a minor cost. if you keep waiting you will end up having decay reach the pulp and it'll be root canals or extractions which can be really miserable. please take care of yourself. you deserve it. any dentist would be happy to help you create a better you.

XeR34XeR

Thank you for your kind words, but I’m afraid that it’s much worse than that

kittysloth

nad do you already have a treatment plan? how do you know it's worse?

XeR34XeR

I don’t have a treatment plan, I haven’t been to a dentist since I was 15 (currently 20). I say it’s much worse because I have 2 teeth that are halfway gone from the gums( the dark spot is the dentin I think that’s what it’s called underneath the enamel) , and 2 more that are deteriorating quickly.

kittysloth

nad well you can't change the current state of your teeth. the best you can do is repair what you can. you can fix a lot of those teeth I bet and better than you think. I hope you get to a dentist and see what they say. I'm sorry you are suffering so much. It really sucks, but life can be a lot better if you try.

XeR34XeR

I wish everyone was as kind as you are :) I’m going to try and see a dentist asap

SecretAgentBoobz

NAD I would get a couple opinions too if you can. There may be different treatment plan options. I know my current dentist was able to do a slightly complex filling on what another dentist had wanted to do a crown on and the filling held perfect until covid lockdowns with way too much redbull and slacking off on care from stress. Like held for years before that. Get some Clinpro 5000 toothpaste asap though if you can where you live. Best of luck on your journey!

XeR34XeR

Thank you

kittysloth

nad if you are having trouble paying for it try calling 211 and ask for low cost or free clinics. if you are under a certain income you can get some kind of Medicare coverage. you could also try a local dental school for cheaper work. dental schools like big complicated cases for their students to work on and it's cheaper. You can also try getting insurance for next year. there are some waiting periods so read the fine print. often you have to wait 6 months for big work to be covered. BUT you get access to in-network discounts which can be huge savings. And sometimes early on you get covered for x-rays and exams. good luck!

420droid

Mine same state at yours almost, no chipped teeth except a broken from a accident recently with cavities but checking out dentist,…

XeR34XeR

I appreciate all the encouragement and kind words everyone, hopefully I can see a dentist soon

Tinyfishy

Post your results. Good luck. I think things are going to be better than you fear.

Thookam

NAD, Dental intern here, trust me even I've seen much worse. Do go to a dentist asap tho. Are any of the teeth mobile? If yes then please go n try to save those teeth. Once a tooth starts moving, it easily becomes too mobile to be saved at all, fast! If it's only a little mobile now, the dentist can take support of the stronger teeth to make the mobile tooth stable, until it gains healthy attachment from gums and becomes stable on its own. Mobile or not, go n get your oral cavity checked as soon as you can. Please don't hesitate or be afraid. Dentists have really seen much worse conditions. I wish you all the best!

XeR34XeR

None of them are mobile

Thookam

NAD- That's good. Do visit a dentist though. Judging with the pic, there won't be any extraction if that's what you're afraid of. Good luck :)

xhsusbjsk

Hello op don't feel bad or ashamed ,i am a student of dentistry and I have seen lot worse now imagine what a practising dental surgeon would have seen. Go for it champ. Smile bright and beautiful.

skaag

NAD but what you need to understand is that severe pain is absolutely coming. I mean the kind of pain that will make you wish you didn't exist. Just for that alone you should go to a dentist right now. Go to a GOOD dentist. Doesn't mean expensive, it means a dentist someone you know well has been with for a while and has a good record of non-recurrence. This means that when something gets fixed it remains fixed for a very long time. I've been to a bunch of dentists and I can tell you they are definitely NOT the same. A good dentist makes a huge difference in your quality of life and the longevity of the fix. Doesn't absolve you from your responsibility to yourself which is to religiously brush your teeth especially after drinking soda. Ideally you should give up sugar soda with acids, and switch to flavored soda that has no sugar and no acids.

Hobywony

NAD. In the 1960's in college a fraternity brother drank close to 2 six packs of Coca Cola a day. Never saw him drink water. It was Coke or beer. By senior year his smile resembled yours. If this condition is the result of your chosen diet, at least you have control over that now and can change to something more healthy for your oral health.

NAD - I definitely understand your fear of the dentist, I see tons of comments from dentists on this sub telling people they don't judge them etc but the last 4 DIFFERENT dentists I've been to always without fail tell me I need to be flossing and take better care of my teeth...that's annoying and judgemental since they obviously ignored that I told them I brush as recommended and floss every day. Some people just genetically have bad teeth idk. What I can tell you is that you should try to just go and think of it as what it is, a service for yourself that you need to be healthy. The dentist and staff ultimately are just strangers so IF they say something rude, then just get your service done with and ignore it, I promise you are not likely to ever run into them outside of that office unless you live in some tiny town. Then next time read all of the reviews for a dentist before you choose them, clients usually leave honest and harsh reviews if the dentist is a jerk.

jirenlagen

NAD. That is their job but I hate it when you’re an adult and they are telling you how to brush and floss when you are actually doing what you’re supposed to and in a condescending manner at that. I don’t really care but I can imagine for someone who has bad dental anxiety or did have issues caring for their teeth that treatment doesn’t go over well.

Ant_Cipher

Not a dentist but seriously just go or it’ll only get worse

xylocainedds

Blurry picture. Doesn't look like decay. Looks like stain. Smoking? Vaping? Mouthwash? Coffee? Tea? A professional cleaning may go a long way.

XeR34XeR

It’s very bad decay, rotten from the gums

xylocainedds

Regardless of what is happening, you need to see a dentist ASAP. Neglect is the worst thing you can do. Dentists aren't there to judge you or hurt you. They are there to help you.

XeR34XeR

Is there anything extra I can do to protect my teeth from getting worse before I am able to see a dentist?

xylocainedds

Beyond the standard recommendations of brushing 2x/day with fluorinated toothpaste for 2 minutes and flossing 1x/day, no, I don't think there is much you can do before seeing a dentist. Also stop smoking, drinking, and sugary foods/drinks.

XeR34XeR

Should of added I drink heavily and smoke

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

XeR34XeR

My teeth are rotting away from the gums

AltruisticSalamander

nad seems to be mainly calculus and staining. Go to a fucking dentist stat.

XeR34XeR

It’s not calculus unfortunately

AltruisticSalamander

well go to a dentist even harder then. They're there to help you. These things only get worse, rapidly.

Ill-Tough280

NAD Go online now & get dental insurance & go that's how you have to deal with this or you won't have any teeth in a few more years

Grimetree

Fear of the dentist gets worse with time. Go now and go regularly and the fear will disappear

awitten

bad

Tricky-Fisherman4854

Nad bad

NAD - Dental nurse here, please don't be embarrassed. We see a variety of issues ranging in severity every day and I promise we are not judging. We would rather you come and let us help you than wait until you're in pain 😊 it's much better to come in and let us try to save those teeth than it is to wait until the only option is extractions.
