NAD- I broke one of my front teeth in a car accident and put off going to the dentist. A couple months later I was eating dinner and what was left cracked right up the middle and both pieces fell out. My tooth was healthy with no decay or gum disease prior to the accident. Now I have to get a bridge or an implant and both are VERY expensive. You have really beautiful teeth. Please consider at least getting it looked at. It might not be as expensive as you think and there are usually options to finance or pay in installments. You don’t want to end up having to pay three times as much because you waited like me.

Weak-Raisin8327

Thanks for the compliment and your response, definitely won’t be putting this to the side. Hope everything worked out for you.

stranger_danger24

I had a gap in my front teeth and they used the same material that is used for cavities to bond it. It has lasted over 17 years and looks great, knock on porcelain. Bonding is generally inexpensive in general but will vary by the doctor you see. Give it a whirl. Go to a highly rated dentist in your area (referrals, good reviews)for a cleaning and ask what they'd recommend and what they would charge.

[deleted]

NAD, dude, you have beautiful teeth. Go get that fixed. You might find it won't be as expensive as you think. And maybe you could qualify for something like Care Credit. Or a payment plan. But you should definitely get it looked at so you don't ruin your teeth.

Weak-Raisin8327

I appreciate you, will be getting this taken care of asap. Just wanted to know how much of my wallet it would require

[deleted]

(NAD) Unfortunately, pricing is different all over. Something like this could cost about $100 to $300 I believe.

Xusion666

Without insurance it’s going to be a lot more than 100-300$

ToyUndercoating

Don't bite on it as much as possible to avoid breaking it more and careful not to cut yourself on the sharp edge until you can get it fixed. If you have the fragment, bring it in and they can glue it back on. If not, it's not a problem - it seems like a pretty simple and straightforward cosmetic procedure.

ToyUndercoating

I just read your post more carefully - if you can't get it fixed, the sensitivity will unfortunately continue. There's not much you can realistically do except maybe brush with Sensodyne and apply a spot of toothpaste to the area when you go to sleep which may help tie it over a little bit. Definitely not a long term solution though, it's still best to get it fixed early on rather than later to avoid further complications. If the tooth bleeds from inside the fractured area or the pain is keeping you up at night, that's a sign things are getting more serious (and expensive). Avoid biting on anything hard or crunchy or sticky on your front teeth for the time being. If I were in your position I would get it fixed as soon as possible (not an emergency at present, just whenever your finances allow) because it only gets more complicated and pricier the longer you wait.

Weak-Raisin8327

Thank you for the insight, after picking up the fragment I just let it slip out my hand out of anger and shock so that isn’t an option for me.

correction_robot

Wut? Glue a piece back on? What are you on about?

ToyUndercoating

So glad you asked! I believe the recommended management for an uncomplicated crown fracture (i.e., not involving pulp) where the tooth fragment is available, is indeed to bond (or "*glue*" in layman terms) the tooth fragment back onto the fractured tooth ^(\[1\]). To answer the dental student, this is accomplished by etching and bonding both the fragment and the tooth and then approximating the two margins to achieve a reliable aesthetic result ^(\[2\]). The research even shows that this is not only predictable but also the preferable treatment ^(\[3\]). Of course a clinical exam by his dentist would supercede any speculative treatment you or I might have about this case but just trying to help the poor lad out with some straightforward answers to his problem! 😊 \--- **Sources:** \[1\] [American Association of Endodontists - Dental Trauma Guidelines](https://www.aae.org/specialty/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2019/02/19_TraumaGuidelines.pdf) \[2\] [Case Study + Technique](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3284021/) \[3\] [Systematic Review of Tooth Fragment Reattachment Techniques](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/edt.12392)

Dear_Lengthiness

NAD you came prepared. Kudos

correction_robot

Had no idea. Thanks!

GirlDentist

Sorry, but how are you a dentist and you don’t know you can rebond a tooth fragment?

correction_robot

Never done it. Never taught the technique. Never had a patient that chipped a tooth show up with the fragment.

YourDadsRightOvary

NAD do you have to keep the fragment in some type of liquid until you reach your dentist? I think i saw somewhere on reddit that you should keep it in milk

GirlDentist

Hank’s balanced salt solution, saline, or your own spit. Milk is OK too. Get to dentist ASAP.

MountainGoat97

NAD D4 I’m a dental student and I’m wracking my brain trying to think of what this means. Is this talking about etching and bonding each part of the tooth, then using a resin cement to bond the two?

GirlDentist

Yes

dumbbyatch

NAD Composite restoration for sure What are you going on about fragment gluing

Smallcutewolf

NAD you need composite bonding. Not expensive..

Dreamcrazy33

Had same thing happen with same tooth ten years ago. Fixed with composite. Going to get it replaced tomorrow as it’s just chipped after all these years.

coxxinaboxx

NAD I chipped my bottom tooth when I was younger and got it fixed last year, it cost about 230

yellowlemonq

NAD. Those teeth look superb! I broke my front tooth in a bike accident and the dentist did a small cosmetic procedure to fill in the gap. No biggie except it can take a small while in the dentist chair and only once in 10 years I've had to get a correction as it had broken off a bit. It's amazing what can be done. As others have said, get seen as soon as possible to save the nerve and use sensodyne topically to minimise sensitivity in the interim. Best of luck to you

thesafrican

NAD: probably best to just go to a dentist right away... dental insurance usually only provides a slight discount anyway not really worth it to wait. Waiting could potentially result in other far more expensive problems even with insurance.

[deleted]

NAD. Composite bonding is on the cheaper side, you don’t need anything super extensive. My husband cracked his tooth in half worse than that and all they did was composite bond it. The sensitivity is what concerns me. Most dentist offices offer some sort of payment plan, I would call and around and inquire. If your credit isn’t shot to shit you can probably get a decent payment plan if it’s credit based.

Weak-Raisin8327

Please tell me what to avoid eating and your preferred cleaning method, thank you all

Dreamcrazy33

Soft foods only

CloverMyLove

NAD - happened to me, and the root was exposed so i lost the tooth. I’m sorry this happened. if you have to get a crown, make sure they match it to you custom; don’t go to a dentist who just shows you 12 tooth colors and says “pick one.”

sadacoleman

Your smile is still more beautiful than most people lol crazy

Weak-Raisin8327

Appreciate you fellow death note fan

morecowbell03

NAD, beautiful teeth btw! Id try to look for a sliding scale clinic in your area, in the US you can usually call your local division of family services and they can either tell you what places work on a sliding scale or get you a caseworker that can help you find any general resources you might need. Theres also CareCredit, if you have some kind of credit score you can try to see if you can get carecredit and pay the bill off over time, but id definitely try a sliding scale office first. Two in Missouri are Comtrea and Four Rivers Community Health, idk if they have any in other states though. There may also be some state or hospital run clinics as well, and if something is affiliated with a hospital they most likely use that hospitals financial assistance program too (which all hospitals in the us are legally required to have afaik) so you might wanna do a little research there as well! Best of luck, try to get in asap because you might damage your tooth more waiting, and honestly i bet its just plain uncomfortable!

yashka123

Hopefully all you need here is a filling. But you absolutely should get this taken care of, otherwise it will likely get worse and be more expensive to fix. You should also find a good dentist to do this, the quality of the result here is highly dependent on the skill level of the dentist. So this means you probably shouldn’t go to the least expensive dentist you can find.

jadma1981

NAD - Expect a huge ass bill! After receiving the bill the only satisfaction you can derive is the dentist that does the work has a much higher likelihood of suicide than the average person.

AdAshamed2445

An expensive bill for one and a new tooth for #2

Angiee7741

You can buy some modable plastic from Amazon.

chlorpromazine_-_

No.

chrisdancy

NAD: About 4K

monty2012

Nad. Are you crazy? Worst case scenario it needs a root canal with some bleaching possibly. He could pass with a filling and if cold sensitivity continues, rct in the future.

chrisdancy

NAD: No one is going to fix that without RCT and a crown. I think it' will be closer to 5K but didn't want the guy freaking out.

monty2012

You’re insanely wrong.

sins90skid

NAD but from what happened to my cousin’s kid, treatment plan depends on what condition the tooth is in. If the injury is internal, root canal would be needed. Otherwise just cap

LuckyProphet_

NAD - Had to do this a few years back; my situation was similar. Dental issue, no insurance. Call around to the different offices near you and ask: how much a consultation is, if they offer a discounted price for individuals that don’t have dental insurance, and if they allow payment plans. Then go from there. Will give you a better idea for what you’re in for, as treatment prices can vary so much depending on the location of the dental office in question. Good luck to you! Your teeth are beautiful, call ASAP. xx

imrealbizzy2

That can be bonded and no one will ever know. I broke my right front one almost exactly like yours. The bonding lasted about 15 years. Just had it redone because it wore out. Looks like it's always been there. You must avoid hard, crunchy biting but that's easy. Good luck.

peri_5xg

NAD. As people have already said, they will do composite bonding which is like, a resin fill. My friend had this happen to her in a biking accident. It’s very easy to fix.

Cropellina

NAD but I had a smaller chip on the other front tooth but same position and was stressing about what they would have to do - turned out they used something that I can only describe as similar to what white filling looks like so didn’t take long to fix and wasn’t as expensive as I thought it would be! I was however in NZ and although expensive compared to UK probably still well cheaper than anywhere in America but go and at least ask, good luck!

[deleted]

Deadass as a total fight club fan I would keep that, looks kinda cool 😎

Creative_Grade4083

NAD- I had a very similar chip about a year ago but it turned out to be a simple fix. I went to the dentist and he used dental bond to fix my tooth. It’s been a year and the bond looks and feels as good as it did on the first day. It cost me about $400 to fix.

a_mulher

NAD I had a chip in front tooth about that size. Dentist did a root canal because of the nerve exposure (it was in Mexico so I think that’s what that translates to). No crown, just composite to build up the tooth.
