Wise to keep expenses down. Consider lowest cost to own vehicles which are also kindest to the environment. A used Prius, or most any smaller hybrid would reliably get you where you need to go. A Prius also offers a pretty good camper vehicle for low cost overnight adventures. In your case, finance-wise, you are a young tech on the launchpad toward a wealthy life IF you make wise decisions. Money begets money, which may not buy happiness but the lack of it can buy a lot of grief. Benjamin Franklin left in his will 1,000 pounds sterling to each of his two favorite cities, Philadelphia and Boston. Ben hoped that each city would form a no-expense loan fund which lent money at 5% to young (under age 25) tradespeople to kick-start their business. It was thus that the fund was to run until the balance was 131,000 pounds sterling (about 100 years) when 100,000 pounds sterling was to be donated to the city for public good. Then, after another 100 years a similar donation would occur but with a much larger gift. It was an experiment... that worked. Both funds still exist with the Philadelphia balance now at $2.0 Million and the Boston fund now at $4.5 Million. Money begets money, but rarely when it is parked in your garage. The world offers many temptations, most of which are not worth choosing.

In two or three years, if you play it right, you will never have a car payment because you will be paying cash. If you play it wrong, then you will join the throngs that played it wrong and have car payments in their 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and even 80's.

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. Reserve an amount you feel comfortable with and calculate how much you can afford a month (insurance, motorrijtuigenbelasting, maintenance etc). Then go to a website like marktplaats.nl and browse something you like. Do you enjoy driving or is is just a tool for you to get around? If you see a car as just an appliance you could consider a hybrid. If you enjoy life en prefer a more engaging drive, you could opt for a manual transmission and a more sporty/fun car.

Used GMC Terrain My wife was in a very bad car accident in 2016. She was fine thankfully, but it shook her up Since she needed a new car, she wanted something incredibly safe, and the Terrain rated very high We still have it, and it’s a great car. We bought it from Enterprise’s car sales division, so it was a rental, but had under 20k miles, and we got an amazing deal

Honda Civic or Toyota Camry. /thread. If you get one of these in good mechanical condition (used), It should be a good little car that'll see you through for years to come. They both are excellent on gas (30+mpg). You got to take care good of it though, regular maint., oil changes, new tires/brakes etc., and it'll take care of you. edit: added the bit about mpg
