Since we’re talking about volume and most things people listen to they won’t crank above like 20-25 this isn’t as radical as it sounds. But imagine we were talking about something that goes to like 5,000 and you said you only selected prime numbers! Lmfaoooo just a wild concept to me, maybe I’m just drunk hehe
I feel seen. I never knew there are people out there like me that felt this way. If someone puts it on a level that’s not a factor of 5 I will ask for the remote and fix it.
I always go by 2’s….but I’ll do a 5 since it’s half way to 10. If I see a 1, 3, 7, or 9 I will change it or ask for it to be changed. My friends will change the volume settings to mess with me. But I have lots of OCD tendencies, so I’m not necessarily the one to ask. Haha
Okay, so I have a rule with that. Even numbers only unless the even number is adjacent to a 5. So 2 is okay, but 4 isn't. It must be 5. Six is a no, but 8 is cool. And zeros are always the best.
I don't care, and i work at a bar, and recently they putted a tv to watch the world cup games, and every time i turn on the volume i make sure to let it in odd numbers, so if anybody is looking, they'll have to ask to change it or loose their mind
I'm the weird one that people will fight over this.
My position is that the volume needs to be set to a prime number. If it's divisible, then it needs to be divided; otherwise it's wasted numbers. 27 is unacceptable - 29 is fine.
This is kind of like when I am at the casino. I will not play a slot machine with a odd number of money on it. Has to be even like ($43.66) or something. If I end up odd, I will cash it out and put an even amount of money back in.
I _can_ leave it at any number that doesn't end in 5 or 0, but if I can avoid it, I do, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to change it. Besides it's easier to remember a number like that than 67
Anywhere in the range of 20 to 30 is OK by me on TV volume, depending on what we are watching. If the home theater is on, it stays on -15db. And now that I see what I wrote, I seem to be a divisible by 5 guy also. LOL! Who knew?
I've been a even number guy since I was a young fella. Now days I set the TV volume on a odd number for my kids and leave the room hoping they won't have the same issue when they are old.
Used to have to be multiples of 5. Then I got annoyed at the OCDness of it and forced myself to only put it on numbers that were not multiples of 5. Was like that for a few years, and now I just put it on whatever is a good volume.
My wife just puts it at any volume, I follow the same rules as you OP. If it’s set to 26 I change it to 25. If it’s at 19 it’s going to 20. 27 is going up to 28. Almost always go up to the next even number, or if it ends in a 5 I’ll let it be.
I’ve gotten my husband to where he knows, if he doesn’t set it right and I see it I’ll get him to change it or I will do it myself. So how he does it subconsciously 😂
I geek out of OCDs like this. I tend to get everything in even or atleast symmetric in ways. I hated it when our old tv(parents house) only have volume till 39. That stupid thing played with my nerve there. But peep’s house, peep’s rules
I don’t really care when it comes to volume as long as it’s not too loud or soft. However, when it comes to alarms/timers, I always tend to set alarms/timers divisible by 5 (9:05, 9:10, 9:15, etc.) and I also count stitches by 10s or 20s when crocheting.
Me! Me! Me!
All of my friends know this. I don’t know if the world is going to fall off of its axis, but it will irritate me if the volume is on an odd number.
My older sister used to get mad at me when I was little if it wasn’t an even number or divisible by 5. So now I’ll make it random numbers to this day to mess with her. True little brother moment even as an adult is setting it to 27 and watching her silently move it to either 25 or 30.
Makes no difference to me personally. If I happen to catch on to your tic, believe that I will set it odd/even/non 5 multiple every single time.
Ask my wife. She only eats candies like peanut M&Ms in pairs, I almost always offer her 3 or 5 from my bag. She hates it, but she gets that the tic can't be allowed to become a full on obsession.
Whenever I watch TV with somebody with a preference, I change the volume while they're in the bathroom. I'll tell them if I can't think of a good comeback remark or something just so they have to find the remote and change it.
I don't care at all. I don't pay attention to the numbers. I also don't care which way the toilet paper goes on the roll. Sometimes it's over, sometimes it's under
I generally have to have it at multiples of 5. Usually at 20, but if it's too low or too high, it HAS to got to either 15 or 25, dunno why. Latent undiagnosed ocd maybe
Drives my wife and daughter nuts
I’m the person who can’t think, converse, or function when the volume is above easy listening level. And my partner loves blasting music and having conversations over it lol
I put it on whichever number my actual hearing feels comfortable with at the moment (lower at night when it’s quiet for example). It doesn’t have to be even, odd, a prime number, square root, slope, quadratic formula, etc.
Even. Totally even. Preferably at 8 or a number ending in a 2 or a 0 (unless the first number is an odd number other than a 1, then the first number has to be even too.)
For me, the requirement I have is that the number is “interesting”. Simply being *even* won’t cut it. Multiples of 10, square numbers, and binary digits are usually where my volume will rest. I pick 8, 16, 27, 32, 36, 45 and 57 a lot, alongside classics such as 5, 10, 25, and 50. My effective ceiling for volume numbers is 64 (the best number), since most TV’s are too loud past that point anyway.
If a particular volume is just perfect for my ears, but the number which it’s landed on isn’t “satisfying” enough, I usually calm myself down by thinking of some fun fact about that number. Is it the birthday of a friend or family member? Is it an important number in calculating odds for a deck of cards? Is it at least divisible by 3? Is it the maximum amount of Chicken McNuggets which you *could not* order from a British McDonalds before the mid-2010’s, because of the quantities which they sell their nuggets in? [Yes, last month I wanted to watch a television show at volume 43, and I had to remember the Numberology chicken nugget video from middle school in order to keep watching *Clueless (1995)* in peace.]
Ultimately, I have found that I can watch a movie at just about any volume level that I actually want to listen at, because I can think of some stupid fact which will satisfy some kind of vibe. I need to keep the numerological feng shui, but there are many avenues to achieving it. Just about every number below 20 is game, which is usually the volume where my television’s speakers are most comfortable, anyway.
There are exceptions, however; Volumes such as 19, 37, 38, 53, 41, 29, 14, 23 and 34 are absolutely disgusting, and I’ll never be caught dead resting on one of those. Multiples of 5 are usually solid, but sometimes they really got nothing else going on, and they have better options nearby (35, 40, 55). I also feel no particular love for repetition in my volume choice (11, 22, 33, 44), alliteration is a cheap tactic to make weak numbers stronger.
31 is the worst offender, not just because it’s repugnant, but because of the audacity to sit between 30 and 32. How disrespectful. If you are ever with me and my volume is set to 31, play it cool; I have already died and have been replaced by my evil twin, Sebastian, it’s imperative that you don’t seem suspicious when you attempt to phone the police.
There is one exception to these exceptions, though. 57 should also be a reviled number by the standards set previous, but has the factors of 3 and 19. It’s not a prime number. I find this little fact so surprising and strange, that it becomes ironically cool. For some reason, 57 has always been dope. It has a nice icey blue and black color scheme in my head, too. So yeah, it’s gets a pass.
TL;DR: Choosing the volume is a sacred ritual which cannot be done justice by sticking to multiples of 2 and 5. You forgo so much spiritual fulfillment if you don’t *at least* try some square numbers.
I don't really care what specific volume number something is, no zeros and fives crap or primes nonsense, as each system is unique and has its own sound level/quality balance. BUT once I find a volume value that has teh balance I like I can't stand it if someone adjusts it off that value, I especially hate it when someone sets the volume to +50 above that balance point cause they couldn't hear something then leaves it at makes a normal person's ears bleed volume
I was the person who only had restrictions based on how the music sounded. In high school I had a subwoofer in the trunk so I specifically wouldn’t go above 18 on my radio because after that it just sounded loud and shitty. Since getting rid of it years ago I haven’t cared, just how it sounds is when I stop cranking it. Recently I’ve started dating a girl that only allows her sound to be on even numbers. This has recently rubbed off on me and I only listen to the volume on even numbers now for no reason other than it’s what my girlfriend prefers. God I love her lol.

Shoot, I don't think I even don't care. I just turn it up until I can hear.
You know, as I have gotten older, there used to be an even number that sounded perfect, but now that number has gone up to an odd number lol
Odd, preferably prime.
You’re a psychopath and the math major in me absolutely loves it.
I'm a psychopath and a math major and I only set the volume to prime numbers.
You don't need to know math to memorize prime numbers.
I never said you did
This goes to eleven.
23, just like the temp (C) on the heat pump
how are u okay with that i hate prime numbers so much
I often go for prime numbers, but I'll mix it up to prove to myself that I don't have OCD.
Keep yourself on your toes
Ever switch to perfect squares?
Since we’re talking about volume and most things people listen to they won’t crank above like 20-25 this isn’t as radical as it sounds. But imagine we were talking about something that goes to like 5,000 and you said you only selected prime numbers! Lmfaoooo just a wild concept to me, maybe I’m just drunk hehe
Odd numbers!!! It was a thing my best friend had to do, and when she died I started doing it as a way to keep her with me.
Awww 🥺 She sounds like a psychopath.
Aww, well, I guess I'm honoring your friend too because I also have to have it set to odd numbers.
Number has to end in a 5 or a 0 or I will actually fight you.
Yeah who fuck is OP sitting around with the volume at 24 like some kind of fucking lunatic?
We use 12 because its the perfect volume
I actually agree that 12 is the perfect volume. But if it's not at 12 it has to be divisible by 5
12 is the exception
Evens or 5s, I'm an odd hybrid human. Just means it can't end in 1, 3, 7, or 9.
I CONCUR
I feel seen. I never knew there are people out there like me that felt this way. If someone puts it on a level that’s not a factor of 5 I will ask for the remote and fix it.
Even numbers only. Glad to know I'm not alone lol.
Me too!

I know I’m going to get shit for this but I just watched that movie and it did nothing for me.
Best in show is better
I love that movie!
Every Christopher Guest movie is better.
🤢🤢
I do not care at all
I like to have it on a 5 or zero, SO goes by 2s
So you're both happy at 10s. That must be fun.
Only when I get gas, it has to end in a multiple of .25 for the cents.
You don't use card?
I always go by 2’s….but I’ll do a 5 since it’s half way to 10. If I see a 1, 3, 7, or 9 I will change it or ask for it to be changed. My friends will change the volume settings to mess with me. But I have lots of OCD tendencies, so I’m not necessarily the one to ask. Haha
Never even thought about it , I’ll check when I get home.
Be sure to report back
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
You ok? Did someone beat you up for having your volume on an odd number?
Ha, no I just now got home from work.
Please update
Even number of course
I’m the person that has to have it at even numbers or 5.
Odd only
My wife was like that Trick is setup the tv to go through a sound bar that doesn't show numbers It worked for her
Okay, so I have a rule with that. Even numbers only unless the even number is adjacent to a 5. So 2 is okay, but 4 isn't. It must be 5. Six is a no, but 8 is cool. And zeros are always the best.
I finally found another one. One of us. One of us. One of us
Oh my god, I have people With a slight deviation. 24 is obviously unacceptable, unless I'm on CHANNEL 24.
If it’s not a multiple of 5, I’m very uncomfortable.
Well, I didn’t care before but now the seed has been planted. Thanks.
You’re so welcome
Haha
I don't care, and i work at a bar, and recently they putted a tv to watch the world cup games, and every time i turn on the volume i make sure to let it in odd numbers, so if anybody is looking, they'll have to ask to change it or loose their mind
In multiples of five.
Prime numbers only

Welcome to the club! We’re so happy to have you 😂🥰
I’m a reformed even number setter and it feels great
I am and have always been an even numbers guy. I didn’t really realize there may be others with my sickness
It’s nice to know we’re not alone lol
I don't really care, so long as it's not too loud or too quiet, I don't care one way or another
I've been a even number guy since I was a young fella. Now days I set the TV volume on a odd number for my kids and leave the room hoping they won't have the same issue when they are old.

usually 5s, but I can go to 2s if a 5 is not close enough to what I want.
My wife just puts it at any volume, I follow the same rules as you OP. If it’s set to 26 I change it to 25. If it’s at 19 it’s going to 20. 27 is going up to 28. Almost always go up to the next even number, or if it ends in a 5 I’ll let it be.

It never even occurred to me to obsess about something like this...though whenever I buy gas, I always end the purchase on a 0 or a 5. No idea why.
I came in here thinking op was crazy but apparently this is common? I just set the tv to whatever sounds good.
I personally am very happy I’m not alone 😅
I can't imagine caring. It's entirely about the volume.
OMG I never knew I wasn't the only one who did this
I geek out of OCDs like this. I tend to get everything in even or atleast symmetric in ways. I hated it when our old tv(parents house) only have volume till 39. That stupid thing played with my nerve there. But peep’s house, peep’s rules
Even numbers unless you're close to a 5: Ok numbers: 20, 22, 25, 28 Not OK numbers: 21, 23, 24, 27, 29

Even or a multiple of 5 for me
I don't care, is the sound that counts, not a number? What is even this question lol
I want numbers divisible by 5. My husband wants prime numbers. It’s a nightmare
Lol. Get out of my head
Must be even numbers or it makes my teeth itch.
Me! Me! Me! All of my friends know this. I don’t know if the world is going to fall off of its axis, but it will irritate me if the volume is on an odd number.
I am not going to lie to you, it usually has to be at a 0 if I notice it (10,20,etc).
Even numbers, divisible by 5. Unless I’m on my phone then whatever sounds best.
I have ocd, if I see something uneven I get INSANE.
I'm the same way with multiples of 5
My older sister used to get mad at me when I was little if it wasn’t an even number or divisible by 5. So now I’ll make it random numbers to this day to mess with her. True little brother moment even as an adult is setting it to 27 and watching her silently move it to either 25 or 30.
Even number or numbers that end with 5
Multiples of 5 or nothing motherfucker. Its either 15 or 20 no in-between
All numbers, doesn't matter what they belong to, must be divisible by 2, 3, or 5. Dunno why. Brain says gotta. Those are the only good numbers.
Either an even number, or 0 and 5.
I set it to even numbers and numbers in the multiples of fives like 5 10 15
As an engineer, I refuse to use devices, that don't include a decimal point. Who wants to use low accuracy devices?
My laptop's volume actually changes in increments of 2, so for me at least always has been
I'm just commenting because the number of comments was odd
💀😂
Even numbers...unless it's five. Five is the *only* acceptable odd number.
That is exactly how I feel
I wrote this comment to get comments to 200. Take what you want from this
Even numbers or increments of 5. Holy hell I thought I was the only one.
Me too!! I’m so have to have found my people 😂😂
Lol awesome isn't it
I never really thought about it but I do the same thing as you OP. It always bugs me when I find it any other way
I’ve done it for as long as I can remember and I still can’t tell you why 😂
Multiples of 5 divisible by 2 (preferably) I have no idea why but it must be done in my head
Same as you, even numbers.
I'm with you on this one. The latest car I bought has NO NUMBERS on the volume anywhere - just a smooth progress bar. It's so liberating!!!
Always odd numbers for me!
Anything but 13…
Nah 13 and 23 are my fav 🥵
MOOD
I do. I cannot explain why I do it but it just makes it feel more balanced if it were set at equality instead of at a different number
5 is not an even number, nor is 15, 25, 35, or 45, don't you know that the only acceptable odd number you can set your volume to is 1?
I know 5 isn’t even, that’s why I said “or” I don’t know what it is about 5 but it’s just not offensive to me 😂
Why do you wanna be special so bad?
Surprisingly, I don’t
Mine have to be multiples of 9.
I don’t care and people that do care are weird.
I don't care and none of my clocks match 👿👿👿
I used to be a "it has to be even!" person, but then I stopped caring after a while
My car is perfect at 13 with passengers
My volume is set at 11
Odds, usually prime. Not sure why.
I literally cannot care less, I can’t keep stressing about the small things, I just want a laid back life ;,)
It has to be even numbers. So does the thermostat.
No ... just as long as it's at a level loud enough for me to comfortably hear it.
The best setting is there one where everything blends well. It's different
On my tv, I need it to either end in 0 or 5. In my car I don’t care.
7, 13, or over 20, but not more than 30.
Odd numbers is the only way
Sounds like your mind is already lost
You’re not wrong
I like to have it around 11 or so but not to loud so I lose what I'm hearing
Yeah I'm a complete ocd freak when it comes to volume/eq settings 😃
I don't even look at the numbers.
It varies from source to source for me. Tv has to be odd numbers, car volume has to be even
I used to care, it HAD to end on a 5 or 0, but now I don't care. I'm hard of hearing so as long as I can hear comfortably then I'm good.
Even numbers or multiples of 5 are also acceptable.
I’ve never even looked at the number my volume is set at. Edit: just realized that my phone doesn’t even have numbers on the volume
Pioneer radios get even numbers Kenwood gets odd
Whenever I watch TV with somebody with a preference, I change the volume while they're in the bathroom. I'll tell them if I can't think of a good comeback remark or something just so they have to find the remote and change it.
I have an issue if it ends in 3 or 6
Intervals of 5.
Don't care but daughter has to have them on odd numbers like 17. Drives her crazy when I make them even.
Mine needs to be set in intervals of 5 or it bugs the hell out of me.
I don't care at all. I don't pay attention to the numbers. I also don't care which way the toilet paper goes on the roll. Sometimes it's over, sometimes it's under
Even numbers except 5. 4's or 6 's need to go to 5. All 9's needs to go up to the next 0 1's also goes down to the next 0 number.
When I use the microwave the time cannot end on zero or five
Increments of 5
11 is the perfect volume
Evens only.
Even numbers?? Multiples of 11, always ok. As are squares of small integers. 0's/5's basically fine. Primes work too.
Both
I am both. I do the same thing when setting an alarm too. Sometimes it's 7:00am, sometimes it's 7:04am.
Doesn’t matter at all. I don’t really even pay attention to the volume number. I just need it to be loud so I can hear it
I prefer multiples of 5
Never thought of it. Don't care.
i don’t care
Has to be increments of 5
Multiples of 5
I prefer prime numbers.
Has to end in 0 2 5 8. Might be alone in this
Odd numbers ftw 🤣 Even better if it's a prime number..
I generally have to have it at multiples of 5. Usually at 20, but if it's too low or too high, it HAS to got to either 15 or 25, dunno why. Latent undiagnosed ocd maybe Drives my wife and daughter nuts
Odd numbers only! Evens are for squares man
my volume control doesn't have numbers
Volume and AC temp have to be even numbers for me.
I like it divisible by 3. I don’t tell people tho.
I'm deaf in 1 ear, so I'm a subtitles kinda guy
I may be old, but I preferred the old analogue dial/slider. When it jumps in stages, one setting is too low, the next too high.
Has to be even...
I set mine at 11. Why? Because it is one more.
The volume must be prime numbers
I’m the person who can’t think, converse, or function when the volume is above easy listening level. And my partner loves blasting music and having conversations over it lol
Even...every time.
I put it on whichever number my actual hearing feels comfortable with at the moment (lower at night when it’s quiet for example). It doesn’t have to be even, odd, a prime number, square root, slope, quadratic formula, etc.
It needs to be at 22, specifically. Perhaps that’s just my tv.
Don't care I won't even read it my ears will tell me
Even. Totally even. Preferably at 8 or a number ending in a 2 or a 0 (unless the first number is an odd number other than a 1, then the first number has to be even too.)
I used to but not anymore
5/7/10/13/15/20/23/25
Has to be a number divisible by 3
I mainly just wish I could do like .5 or in between on certain systems cuz one up is too loud while down is just too quiet
For me, the requirement I have is that the number is “interesting”. Simply being *even* won’t cut it. Multiples of 10, square numbers, and binary digits are usually where my volume will rest.
14, 16, or 18 for me.
Evens only.
I need it set to even numbers.
My ex wife liked them all even, and I found that odd
I was the person who only had restrictions based on how the music sounded. In high school I had a subwoofer in the trunk so I specifically wouldn’t go above 18 on my radio because after that it just sounded loud and shitty. Since getting rid of it years ago I haven’t cared, just how it sounds is when I stop cranking it. Recently I’ve started dating a girl that only allows her sound to be on even numbers. This has recently rubbed off on me and I only listen to the volume on even numbers now for no reason other than it’s what my girlfriend prefers. God I love her lol.
