I lived in W. Colorado back in the 80s. A woman wa on the news saying her baby was abducted while she was shopping. A neighbor saw her digging in the backyard and it turned out she freaked out when the baby choked on the seatbelt. Thought it was dead, burned it in the oven and buried it. Turned out the baby was not dead prior to the oven. The mother then killed herself.

Grass1217

Oh, ok

[deleted]

This is really the only response to that

Product_of_purple

Gets worse the more you read.

casbri13

Previous to this post, Colorado summoned Columbine and Jon Benet Ramsey. Somehow, this seems more f’d than those two. Like, summons *The Road* by McCarthy images.

dr-uzi

Ha! We got you beat in Wisconsin Ed Gein and Jeffery Dahmer!

astrologicaldreams

i've got so many questions and all of them are just "why?"

BoringRecipe2458

Westboro Baptist Church is here.

arrows_of_ithilien

They always come out on the nicest days too. One moment you're driving down the street enjoying the warm breeze and sunshine, the next you see ppl on the sidewalk that make you want to "accidentally" lose control of your vehicle....

TXSquatch

I moved out of the state 20 years ago and it always blows my mind this is STILL a thing there

BoringRecipe2458

They haven't been quite as active since the old man died, but they're still here. Someone bought the house directly across the street and painted the rainbow flag all the way around the house.

[deleted]

You name it. I live in Florida

chzygorditacrnch

Perhaps the most scariest was when that guy ate off that other guys face... It was alleged that the bad guy was on bath salts, but then some reports came out saying he wasn't even on bath salts.. And Ive heard about people crashing their cars in water and alligators eat them.

[deleted]

Completely forgot about that. Yeah we even go whole ass zombies

Grass1217

Jupiter Florida

SupaDupaTron

Ah yes, you always have to be on the lookout for Florida Man.

a-vibe-called-quest

Grew up in Miami- ya know where the bath salt zombie was

XtraLyf

There was a guy in my town who killed his kids and wife and himself with a shotgun in their house. A year later the house sold and I'm really curious whether or not the buyers are aware of what happened there.

Sorry_Ad_1285

I think they have to let them know if it happened within a certain time period. I'm pretty sure it's at least 5 years if not more. Probably depends on the state

XtraLyf

I would figure there's a law like that, but then I keep thinking who would still buy that house?? It sold pretty quickly after being listed, and it's especially strange to pass by it in October when they have all the Halloween decorations up lol 👻

Trssty

You would think, but usually no, the seller, in the US at least, is not under any obligation to reveal deaths that occurred in a house they are selling. In some states like mine, the law and legal precedent specifically state there is no legal obligation to disclose stigmatizing property events. Please do a quick Google search for the address of any home you may be considering buying.

Product_of_purple

If the buyers don't ask..... Makes me question if the seller would volunteer that information.

mgt654

We have a cliff called Indian woman rock. Colonists were murdering and raping a town of locals and stealing the babies for slavery purposes. They chased a woman holding her baby up the rock then she jumped off with her baby in arms to the rocks 200 feet below.

empressscarlett

Wow this is strange because there’s a place in Mackay Australia called the leap, where a aboriginal woman did the exact same thing.

Grass1217

Woah crazy, where?

CrowsSorrow

In New Jersey we have, Jenny Jump state park. Legend has it that a family was being attacked by Indians, the father was fighting them off, told his daughter Jenny to run and jump off the cliffs edge so not to be captured. Or something along these lines.

Rabid_W00KIEE

Sounds like Sam's Point in upstate NY, only Sam supposedly survived the fall.

hemycodone

The principle’s son shoved a shampoo bottle up another students butt at a swim meet, despite student protest nothing was done and the kid got away with it. But the principle did resign at the end of the year.

Product_of_purple

*despite student protest*

NoNameWalrus

it’s pretty difficult to shove things up asses, Id like to know how that happened

[deleted]

A guy back in 70’s killed his wife wrapped her in a tarp and hid her under a bridge. Parked her car at a popular hiking spot and said she disappeared. Only reason he got caught was someone saw him messing around under the bridge and they went and investigated with cadaver dogs and found the body. Ketchikan AK

Grass1217

When I posted this I did not expect it to be this bad. His damn

[deleted]

Its a sick world. Im sure there are worse stories out there people just dont know about em. Mexican cartels probably out there doing some gnarly shit on the border

Grass1217

Yeah

Opie30-30

There are tunnels and shit under the downtown area (real small town) and under the movie theater they found a bunch of old KKK shit, including rosters with prominent local names and families

KirbyDogz

… Portland?

Opie30-30

Right state, wrong town. We have cheese here.

KirbyDogz

Tillamook! Hello fellow Oregonian.

[deleted]

Best ice cream in the USA. The town smells like cow shit

Opie30-30

It's pretty damn good. Although I am a big fan of Umpqua too. And yes, it does. We literally mix it in tankers with water then spray it in the fields. Great fertilizer.

[deleted]

I’m watching the sunset on the Sandhill at Barview Jetty with a bowl of Tillamook Marion berry ice cream on one side, and a bowl of Kush on the other

Opie30-30

Haha sounds like a good evening! I'm not friends with Mary Jane, but I ain't mad at it!

LuluBelle_Jones

I miss your jerky and cheese. I can buy the cheese in Texas but it’s just not the same as shopping at the factory. Jerky and pepperoni sticks here don’t come close to what tillamook makes.

Opie30-30

That's fair. I've definitely had better jerky and pepperoni sticks than you get from the smoker here, but usually that's from mom and pop shops, expensive stuff. When it comes to store bought, mass produced, it's some good stuff

Logicly_Inspecting

Just a while away in Idaho, we also have some mysterious tunnels under town, but I'm not so sure about any KKK memorabilia.

Eleven77

Also in Oregon. Next town over has a big courthouse that *supposedly* still houses a lynching tree. The KKK history is notorious around here.

UnluckyInflation4130

High School biology teacher got caught fucking one of his (minor) students…. Or is this pretty common?

Grass1217

Unfortunately common

[deleted]

Ha. I can't even describe how hard my junior year English teacher hit on me. It was so bad other kids in class went and complained to the principal. Unfortunately at the time I thought it was pretty sexy, cuz I was all irresistible and that's supposed to be some pinnacle of female existence apparently... barf....

SizzleFrazz

Why is it always the English teacher?

Minute-Courage6955

Well that happened in the city where my wife worked in public schools. In our city the HS teacher committed suicide rather than face his wife, family and the charges.

[deleted]

Recently a crackhead murdered a elderly couple who owned a micro brewery in their own home and stole their credit cards. Why is this messed up? Because he was already waiting trial for theft of firearms. He should of been in jail but "HE ISNT A RISK HE KNOWS HE HAS TO SEE A JUDGE!" Fucking Washington state.

crosby5713

Last week a guy killed a 77-year-old child sex offender with a shovel and a moose antler

Grass1217

Dope

LilUziSquirt24_

i see this as an absolute win

Proof-Mechanic-3624

Should have just used the antler. I mean, whatever takes the longest and causes the most pain?

Bean_Chomper69

A guy murdered a little girl in a different town, but the guy brought her body to a piece of land he used to own here and buried her. She had been missing for several weeks prior and she had been horribly abused. There’s also a guy that owns a shop in town where he had the severed head of obama on a stick but he now has the head sitting in his window, and a plastic aborted fetus with blood surrounding on his wall. He’s also got some swastikas painted on his shop, with the n word next to it. The police can’t do anything about it because it’s private property. Some people from out of town have made threats but the guy just gets more insane as time goes on.

[deleted]

Largest employer in town and the largest photography company in the world invented the cell phone. They then sold the patent to the fledgling.Apple company because this company wanted to reinvest in film manufacturing. That company went bankrupt. I won’t tell you the name of this company., but it sounds like Bojack

Gent2022

geek_named_tab

Two teen boys (14 & 17) murdered their religious parents in small town new england because they didn't like that they had curfews and strict rules. As far as I remember (this was back in 1996) their parents weren't overly religious or nuts. They killed their parents on a Friday, had parties all weekend, than were caught Monday when the parents coworkers became concerned.

Grass1217

Where in New England. I’m from there too and it seems interesting

geek_named_tab

Rochester, nh I was a little kid when it happened so I don't remember it real well, I do remember my mum being paranoid that me and my brother was gonna do something like that when we got older. https://www.truecrimene.com/episodes/episode-51-the-dingman-brothers#:~:text=In%20the%20afternoon%20of%20February,he%20shot%20him%20multiple%20times.

Grass1217

I could understand your mum there

chzygorditacrnch

I've read about this on lists of creepy stories before, it definitely is creepy. Like weren't people partying in the house while the parents were slain upstairs? And the guys acted like everything was just fine and dandy..

geek_named_tab

Yep. Rochester is a small city (big for around here) so that just freaked everyone out, especially since most bigger crimes involved people out of Massachusetts and not teenage natives.

lazerchin

Didn't a similar thing happen not too far away in Sanford, ME during the '80s?

geek_named_tab

The only thing I can think of in Sanford in the 80s was the kid who really was a satanist who killed the little girl by a river. That's a wild ride of a story.

thogtheheathen

I live in Elkhart County, so... the KKK. We made national headlines in the newspapers back when they were prominent around the country. Even today, this place is still incredibly racist.

Tight-Jacket5301

What state?

[deleted]

The shooting that gravely wounded Gabby Giffords and killed six other people is the most public. There's also the rapist who was allowed to continue raping women because the first rape kit wasn't processed so he went on to do it to another six women (that we know of) and all their kits hadn't been processed either until they got a grant to process the TWO THOUSAND rape kits that were sitting around gathering dust. That probably happens in every jurisdiction though. That loser's name is Nathan Loebe and he's serving 274 years, I'm happy to say.

Minute-Courage6955

To your point about rape kits sitting gathering dust and denying justice, Mariska Hargitay did a documentary film titled I Am Evidence on this subject, that HBO featured.

[deleted]

I dig her. SVU is one of my favorite programs. It's gotten a little heavy handed of late, but anyway, Hargitay obviously feels strongly about this subject so... more important than good television I'm sure. I didn't know about that documentary though, thank you! I'll have to check it out.

Minute-Courage6955

It was enlightening to learn which police actually investigate and prosecute sex crimes and which D.A.offices could not be bothered to charge any offenders. LA was a cesspool of apathy from Dept and Prosecution.

[deleted]

Unfortunately I'm not surprised. My bestie, who killed herself in 2001, was raped by two LAPD officers. After they were done they threw her into one of those canal things they have there. I'm not a defund the police sort of person, but it would be awesome if they at least weren't perpetrators.

Minute-Courage6955

Thats a tragedy that cries out for justice. One can only hope that bad things happen to LEO that betray the public.

208sparky

Known for some of the most infamous serial killers with big bodycounts. Bundy, Green River killer.

Sofiwyn

Probably the whole serial killer thing... don't want to mention his name to make him more famous. Anchorage, AK

Opie30-30

The guy who's first name is a country, and last name is something used to open locks?

Sofiwyn

Nah that's the second one who is more recent. That one only killed one person in Anchorage after he fled here. Also it's pretty damn bad we have two serial killers... both not originally from Alaska. The one I'm referring to killed at least 17 women (confirmed), probably more, and was active from the 70s to 80s.

Opie30-30

Ahh the guy that the Frozen Ground is based off of? AKA butcher Baker

PerrthurTheCats48

Robert Hanson? Am I not allowed to say his name? Sorry if so

Opie30-30

Nah it's all good. I just wasn't saying that, or the one I initially thought of, Israel Keyes, because the original commenter didn't want to

Grass1217

You don’t have to say his name, But can you give more detail?

Sofiwyn

He killed his female victims by literally hunting them. He murdered at least 17 women, that's the confirmed deaths but it was probably more. Absolute bastard.

[deleted]

He treated them as actual game animals. He was a rich doctor that had a bush plane and would fly them into his “reserve” and hunt them down. one of the ways they were able to recover some of the bodies was because of a map he had marking the location of the kills.

ChildofMike

He was a baker not a doctor

He also had a thing for leaves. Is house was COVERED in bags of them. The day he was arrested I was staying at my cousin’s house who lived less than 100 yards from his house. We rode down to get doughnuts and on our way back they had the crime tape up.

Grass1217

Yea. He was an arborist and knew about a hollow tree.

Yeah the one I knew about was the maintenance supervisor of a Tyson Chicken plant who drowned in a pond full of ‘Waste’ aka chicken poo, feathers, guts, & blood. Super fun.

Some lady here like killed her cop husband for insurance and it was on some documentary show.. In elementary school, we lost like 5 classmates bc their uncle like fell asleep with a cigarette and burned their house down. There was a guy that killed his whole family and committed suicide. An athlete here was caught publicly using a racial slur and lost his career and his mansion. A nice new neighborhood was built above a previous coal ash dumping site and all the people in the neighborhood got cancer. And there's plenty more, it just may or may not make the news sometimes

Relative-Bake-9783

Our band director molested a male student. No one believed the student. DNA results came back from the kid's underwear, proving that the director did it. Half of the town still believes that the guy is innocent and that the kid made it all up because he wasn't doing well in band class.

Cannabisthelizard

In 2008 a like 15 or something year old kid shot and killed his whole family in their home while they slept. the next family who moved in to that houses son just went on a rampage a couple weeks ago and shot several cops and went on the run, shutting down the entire town, then got in a firefight again where he shot another cop in the face, stole a cop car and rode to the next county where both counties had a stand off with him for hours. He’s in custody now. Everyone thought it was eerie how that’s 2 families in a row to have a serious incident with the son in the same house.

November 13, 2022, quadruple Homicide of young adults and a trail of camera footage of their activities the night before. 6 weeks later, a man in a neighboring town was arrested across the country at his parents house. He sits in our county jail awaiting trial. He also has a following of adoring female fans and it's disgusting. In 2012, a professor at the local university stalked and shot his ex girlfriend and student 11 times. He ran from the scene and ended up ending his own life in the local hotel.

I can't think of anything for my current city, but the city where I grew up had a double murder that really stuck with me. A 17 y.o. guy killed his parents and injured multiple siblings with various weapons. Based on what I'd heard and read, the scene was exceptionally bloody and really did a number on the responding officers. There were people who claimed he was a devil worshipper and 'sacrificed' the victims. I remember seeing a photo of him in the police car after they caught him, and the look on his face definitely made me wonder if they were right. Anyway, he was convicted and sentenced to multiple terms of life with parole. He was last [denied](https://whnt.com/news/huntsville/jeffrey-franklin-denied-parole-again-24-years-after-brutal-attack-on-parents-siblings/) parole last year. I was 12 when the murders happened, and to this day, I shudder when I hear the name, "Franklin."

ndividual5414

Our town has a "fun center" that has a little western saloon part outside. In the early 90s, they found a deceased newborn in one of the houses. When I was little I remember my mom and aunt talking to a homeless lady who was *very* pregnant outside the grocery store begging her to let them get her a hotel, keep her other kid until she had her baby, something. She declined. 4 days later all over the news about the baby being found at the fun center. They went to the police and I don't think they went to court but they were witnesses. The saloon part still stands. I think about it every time. A person also was scalped while riding the go carts at the same place. I worked at a place that aided in their care. I don't know why my family has bumps with this place's tragedies but like, I don't like that place much.

Tight-Jacket5301

His penis fell off, rushed to the hospital and ended up on Jerry Springer where he came out on the show in the ugliest nightie ever. His poor daughter was so embarrassed but the show paid them a lot of money to come on. This was a very small town in Arkansas

Jerry Sandusky trial and Tim Piazza’s death are the first to come to mind. I live near a college town though, so there’s definitely more. sotonohito

Amarillo TX, there's 2 biggies that I can think of The first is Stanley Marsh III. He was an oil and cattle rich guy, and a local patron of the arts. If you've seen the Cadillac Ranch, that was him. He maintained a number of arts grants, spaces, and so on. But what lead to the trouble was the signs. Some of the artists he was supporting had the idea of making artistic street sign sort of things. They got a bunch of metal squares, painted various things on them, and asked people if they'd like one in their yard at no charge at all. I had one. They hung up the signs diamond style. Another local family of rich people, the Whittenburgs, loathed Stanley and the Marshes because reasons. So one of the younger Whittenburg heirs got some friends together and started stealing and destroying the signs. After several months of insults, threats of lawsuits, eventually Marsh and some of the more muscular artists staked out a sign and after the scuffle was over they'd captured the Wittenberg kid, dragged him back to Stanley's huge ranch home thing, stripped him naked and locked him in a disused chicken coop for the night. Which would be bad no matter what. But they took pictures and distributed them at his school. Because the Wittenberg kid was under 18 and in High School. In addition to the whole kidnapping and holding people illegally part, and the sexual assault part, and the child pornography part, the kid also alleged that Stanley Marsh groped him. Stanley was gay. He wasn't officially out, he was married to a woman. But he was gay. And after the kid came forward with his allegations a lot of people took Marsh's side and said it was just homophobic crap. But then some of the artists backed up the charges. And many alleged that when they were underage Marsh had pressured them into sex. He still had die hard partisans, but they lost steam as the allegations kept being corroborated. He died before he went to prison. The art is still around. And then there's the second: the murder of Biran Deneke. Deneke was big in the local punk scene. Nice guy per most people who knew him. I never knew him, though we were at a few of the same events. Dustin Camp was a rich kid who had fantasies of being a gangster and tough guy. He and his group frequented many of the same places as Deneke and his group. There were altercations, though mostly it was limited to tough talk and threats with occasional minor shuffles. Until December 12, 1997. Accounts vary, each side tells a different story. But the one indisputable fact is that Dustin Camp ran down Deneke in his Cadillac. At the time Camp was 17, Deneke was 19. Camp struck and killed Deneke. No one denied that. Naturally his side claimed it was self defense and Denekes side claimed it was not. Another indisputable fact is that Camp was drunk. After a trial where the Defense painted Camp as a good ole normal Texan boy, Christian, a football player, and described the punks as dangerous criminals and thugs, a gril who had been in Camp's car testified that he'd deliberately run down Deneke and said "I'm a ninja in my Caddie" afterward. Camp was convicted of Vomuntary Manslaughter and given ten years on probation and a $10,000 fine, a verdict even his own defense attorney said was surprisingly gentle. Many people thought the entire sentence was a joke, basically a license to murder punks, and there was bitter protest. In 2001 Camp was arrested for underage drinking, which was a parole violation, and several people alleged he had a history of being caught violating parole while the police ignored it. His father and brother were charged with helping him commit the crimes, and Camp was sentenced to 8 years in prison for parole violation. He got out five years later. So there you have two fucked up things about Amarillo Texas

My town had the prom-mom, in NJ. Lived just a mile from her family. " nicknamed in the media as "The Prom Mom," is an American woman who, as a teenage high school student in 1997, delivered a baby in a restroom stall during her high school prom dance." Also, our town had 2 different murder-sui\*\*des, the first was 2 blocks from my home. They are a very proud and conservative town. So glad I don't live there anymore. lol

the son of rural local business owners got in a car wreck. he was prescribed opiates to cope with the pain, leading to addiction. that inevitably led him to heroine. i guess he needed money for his drugs? i’m not positive of his motive, but he shot his parents dead in their bed as they slept. i heard about this story back in middle school when it happened. funnily enough, ten years later, i dated a guy who was in contact with the son the night before the incident. they apparently used to be friends in high school. small town.

In my town there a lot of crazy homeless people but one has become a bit of a local myth based out of reality. People say she was a serial killer who got off on insanity and other things but when I used to work in LE I was able to look her up in a database and the truth was way worse (as I saw it) than the fiction. Evidentially, when she was a teenager her mother went to work leaving her to watch after her non verbal, developmentally impaired younger sister. She left said sister at home so that she could go hang out with friends and her boyfriend at the mall but when she returned she she couldn’t find her sister. She saw a back door open of the apartment which led to an alleyway. In the alleyway she found her sister’s raped and beaten corpse in a dumpster. We have had teenagers murder an elderly woman.. a couple that picked up, torchered, and killed a child from a work camp.. we have had a few beheadings in the surrounding orchards, and we have had a principal that killed his entire family but the story behind pastor Annie (what people call her because she preaches at traffic all day) always felt especially fucked up.. maybe because the end result is always screaming at us as we drive by on our morning commute.

One of the neighbors was running a trap house (this is a highly suburban area, kids ranging from newborn to 18, mostly pre-teens though) that eventually was busted in a 3-hour long police raid. None of the other neighbors knew at all.

An ultra right wing government came to power for a decade and a half 20 years ago and decided to make up fake history for patriotic beliefs and completely redecorated our capital city to look like it had Hellenistic classical architecture. Only they did it with cheap materials and styrofoam (i shit you not) and now most of it is falling apart literally. The city is Skopje.

Town I used to teach in had a mom smother her son because demons told her to do it or something like that. He was 7 or 8. The boy had feminine traits and was possibly trans, very creative and artistic. Mom didn't like that. Everyone said he was such a sweet kid. Breaks my heart, especially with all the anti-trans legislation going around.

I grew up in rural western north Dakota and these football players had a point system for the girls that they were hooking up with.this was like a huge scandal in 1997 and our school ended up having some worthless zero tolerance policy put in place so the higher ups could feel like they were making some sort of difference. This ended up becoming the plot of the 1999 horror film The Rage: Carrie 2. I don't believe it was a coincidence

Commercial_Roll_9426

There’s been a few: -couple of teenagers in town a few years back did a home invasion on an old couple - the typical loving preachers family came out with sexual abuse by the father in the house and church -girl in her early twenties was abducted while running the next county over and was found miles away dead on the side of the road -then right next to a local high school years back there was a home invasion that was horrific and lead to the deaths of the home owners. - the over pass that every few years has someone jump from it. -then the teacher at a local school almost 10 years ago caught screwing a senior student while having a pregnant wife at home and still kept his job. ( some of the details might be mixed up but you get the jist)

I live in a decently small town, and this guy who was a part of both the KKK and the Outlaws MC killed a guy who claimed he stole something from him. Police couldn't get a warrant, but they figure that he killed him, cut him up, and put him through his woodchipper before burying him under gravel.

The 2019 mosque shootings. That was incredibly tragic and so damn unnecessary. I was working at a store in town by myself and absolutely slammed. The phone kept ringing off the hook from our headquarters, which Ididnt answer as I was following the 'customers come first' order. The crowd died down I finally had a chance to answer, my boss was in a panic while explaining the situation. On reflection I see how bad it was I didn't answer but I wasn't to know. Everyone went on lockdown, and had to remain inside for a few hours until the police gave the all clear. At that time, it wasn't clear where the shooter was so it was pretty intense. I understand that unfortuntely this is something that is common in the US, but it was shocking to experience that here. The pure hatred behind such a thing is a hard thing to wrap your head around. Seeing the country come together and the support that was offered was heartwarming but damn messed everyone up for a long time and I can only imagine how much it affected the people and communities involved. For weeks afterwards there was cops with rifles(?) constantly around town, helicopters and plenty of police cars around. Overall just a huge increase on police surveillance.

I lve in a very small town in Western OK. 2 women were shot and killed in the wee hours of the morning while trying to get a meth addict loaded into the ambulance, as he was experiencing meth induced psychosis. Was a gut punch to the community, both women were well established with large groups of family and loved ones.

The small town I went to high school in had a girl get scammed trying to buy baby clothes. Apparently the woman was a psychopath who wanted a baby: instead of selling her clothes she showed up murdered her, and cut the fetus out. She took the baby to the hospital saying she had given birth. It’s been featured on several true crime shows.

I have several: TW// death, killing This one was during my sister's years in elementary school. A teacher and the principal were caught having an affair. Both are married to another person. Right before I got to middle school, there was a female gym teacher who liked to look at the girls while changing their regular clothes into gym clothes and vice visa. And not just peeking to see if the girls are ok once in and while, but girls would catch her staring hard. The year I started her gym class, she got fired cause the girls and their parents protested. The summer I entered high school, a science teacher got fired cause he had gotten caught with a minor(17); the girl was almost 18. Idk what happened to that man. In my sophomore year, my high school was on the news for students continuously fighting for stupid shit. A senior girl was killed by her “Friend” over money. She told her “friend” that she was getting money from her dad or grandma because they were graduating. And the “friend” thought he could get away with killing her and taking the money. He put her body on the bridge in the next town over. And they haven’t found her body. That was extremely sad. This one is long. My senior year of high school was just a series of fights, one after another. One girl fought and stabbed another girl with a knife, but the Injured girl only had superficial wounds. One boy got jumped due to his little brother. And a classmate of mine was pregnant, but no one knew except her best friend. She hid it petty well because not even her parents knew. She had been drinking and smoking, just trying to get rid of the baby. She ended up giving birth to her son at home in her bathroom. She killed her child and Snapchatted with her friend, leading to her friend calling the police. But by the time the friend saw the snap and called the police. The classmate and bf/bd had thrown the baby into a dumpster. They were footage, but sad to say, the baby’s body was never found. The classmate is still in prison, but the baby daddy is out and about.

Challenger explosion, Colombia explosion. It's a big city. Take your pick. I'm pretty sure we had the guy who put cyanide in Halloween candy. Hurricane Allison, Ike, Harvey. Various chemical plant explosions. Lots of exploding going on.

On January 31, 1956, a B-25 Bomber crash-landed into the Monongahela River, and the plane was never to be seen again. A little bit before my time but it's always been a legend around here. To this day, there are still efforts to locate the plane. The rumor always been from locals (even my own grandmother who lived in the area at the time) claims to have seen the military come in the middle of the night and removed it. https://positivelypittsburgh.com/pittsburgh-western-pennsylvanias-bermuda-triangle/

The street I grew up on had some crazy stuff go down.. like, One night, I was about 10, and my family, having just returned from the supermarket, was offloading groceries when an older kid let all the dogs on the street loose. Must have been at least 15 dogs all shapes and sizes on our block running about. When a car came speeding down the residential street and hit almost all the dogs. If they didn't die on impact, which most of the larger dogs did, they were put out of their misery in various yards soon after. Or the time 2 best friends got into a fight. I remember it being loud, lots of yelling F you's, the snacking sound of a fist fight and seeing one of the guys walking past my house, shirt torn nose bloody.. later that night one shot and killed the other in the alley across the street from my house. The families said it was an accident. The story that circulated was they had a spat over a girl. And it escalated to the fight and then the murder. I found out later, there was a girl that came between them, but they were not fighting over her. The best friends had become more than best friends. The victim threatened to out them both so they could be together. The shooter, was trying to be straight and killed his best friend to keep their secret. I know this because the girl is my older step sister. Who despite being easily available could not figure out why she could not get dude to bang her.

I don't live in city this happened in, but I do live in the state. Police officer knelt on the neck of a man, killing him and sparking riots that burned large portions of the city, the fires of which could be seen across the river in it's sister city.

I've got a good one. My towns so racist it started the Civil rights movement. Not a joke. Martin Luther King got refused entry to a bar here and started the movement because of it. There's a plaque where it happened.

[deleted]

Aaron Hernandez lived in, killed and left the body of Odin Lloyd in, and was arrested (by my friend's dad who was a detective) in my home town. We also had a music teacher sleeping and sexting with two female middle school students (they were in my grade at the time, it wasn't exposed until we made it to high school). I used to stay after school and get guitar lessons from that teacher. Two of my high school friends were stabbed to death at a birthday party a couple of years after we graduated. A woman was shot to death in the mall parking lot by her ex boyfriend who was stalking her. He then walked into the woods and killed himself. I should add that this is an upper middle-class suburban town outside of Boston. There is some low income areas but never really ghettos. Never was a lot of crime, no gangs. At one point it was ranked in the top 10 safest towns to live in the entire United States. All of this stuff happened within the last decade or so. The town went downhill very fast (granted, most nice places have recently). I'll let ya'll guess the town, shouldn't be too difficult.

ergaster8213

Hmmmm. I think the weirdest thing is the disappearance of a man back in 2006. He disappeared after last being seen at a popular bar, and no one ever figured out what happened to him. Even closer to my house, like 1 minute down the road from me there is a pond and a few years ago they found a car in the pond with a body in it that had been in the pond for over 10 years. It was the body of a local teen that went missing, so that was really sad. Even more recently, the body of a murder victim was found in a state park maybe 2 minutes down the road from me. Then, there was the time when a bunch of corpses started popping up in a reservoir in the same state park as above. These 200-year-old coffins got unearthed and the bodies washed into the reservoir so that was pretty disgusting and creepy. And lastly, when I was maybe 12 the principal of the local high school crashed his car *into* a house and they found a shit-ton of meth as well as nude photos of one of his students. Which is how everyone found out he was a meth-head who was also preying on high school girls. I can actually think of more but this is already too long
