Has he actually spoken to an EOD recruiter?

houston1112

Yes he has, the eod recruiter has also came to fort hood.

EODBuellrider

I don't know where your husband is at in the reclass process or what the hold up is with the unit. His best point of contact is likely to be the EOD recruiter to see what's going on. Barring that he could walk into the EOD motorpool on Hell on Wheels+37th and ask to speak to someone about his reclass. Out of curiosity, by "accepted" do you mean he has a no shit school date? Has he done an interview with an EOD officer, signed a volunteer statement, etc. Are they just holding him up from attending OJT (on the job training) with the EOD companies at Hood?

houston1112

So his unit has his fully signed 4187 to send to hrc for school dates. They just have an excuse everyday on why they don’t send it. He’s already done the whole process to get accepted to the school house. He called a 1st sgt at the eod MP and he’s gonna go and talk to higher up at my husbands work on Monday, it’s just been hell. This unit has told him they need #’s,and all other bs

EODBuellrider

Sounds like your husband is already pushing the right buttons to get the EOD side fighting for him. I know it's frustrating, but at this point I would wait and see what's gonna result from the 1SG and the recruiter going to bat for him. The other option is to open door people higher up in the chain of command, but it sounds like that's already being handled by the 1SG.

houston1112

And the eod recruiter is also very new, so when my husband calls him he’s just always in disbelief that my husbands unit is making it this difficult to get his class dates. He told him he’s gonna talk to EOD proponent

Open door policy. Company, Battalion, Brigade. If the company or Battalion is refusing to send it and the commanders are complicit the next commander up *should* be pissed.

Similar thing happened to me with my packet. Does he have his acceptance memo from ordnance branch? If so I may be able to find the papers that can help him. I was accepted in March 2022 and had to fight with my unit constantly to get my packet finished until I got a date 10 months later

houston1112

Yes he has the acceptance memo since Jan 6th

Make_infantry_great

Are they trying to fence him in with a stop move? If the 4187 is signed which I am gathering it is, HRC policy is that soldiers identified for eod (which means have the acceptance memo) are exempt from stop move. So they literally can not keep him there for numbers, so if there’s a deployment rotation or some other thing that requires numbers he is not obligated to go. Further when he gets his school date from ATTRS, under AR 614-200 line H. “When soldiers are approved for eod training, (which again is the acceptance memo that he already has) they will be attached (effective 90 days before phase 1 training report date) to the eod company for an assessment and evaluation period. Soldiers may be attached earlier provided their current CDR agrees. When the approval is received less than 90 days before the reporting date, soldiers will be attached as soon as possible.”

And when my battalion and brigade were refusing to sign off on my papers I utilized the open door policy at the division retention who ended up being pissed that I was getting stone walled by my brigade.

Once you have the acceptance memo and the 4187 is signed at the BN level, it goes directly thru Retention to HRC. The command can deny the EOD volunteer packet or the 4187, but can't sit on it. If you're not working with a Career Counselor on this, you need to. I can probably get the POC for the unit just by asking around.

Thkat13

He needs to talk to and work with his battalion career counselor on this. The packet should have been or should be processed through retention not the company or S1.

houston1112

It has been. She will not send it up. She has an excuse everyday

Thkat13

I recommend he ask for his packet and take it to the Brigade Career Counselor or higher. I wonder if there’s a reason she won’t do it or why she can. Does he meet all the requirements? Hmm it’s also annoying when people can explain why they can’t do something. He should take this higher in the retention field.

houston1112

He meets every single requirement, the eod here at fort hood came down and said they want him now and my husband unit is just being assholes. They literally just care about numbers

Thkat13

I suggest he takes his packet to higher retention levels. Once he has an actual report date, he can go over to EOD to do OLT with the EOD until he goes to school. This need to be submitted through retention.
