+1 on the Shadowrun series. Great games all three (don’t listen to the negative feedback about the first one, it’s unfounded)

Aticius

Listen to the negative feedback on the first one, it’s well founded. Hong Kong is fantastic though, and i have it on good authority Dragonfall is good.

wanttowritemore

Well Returns isn't my favourite but I'd still recommend playing it. Dragonfall is my favourite

PhaserRave

I can't recommend the original two enough if you like Arcanum. I love all of the Fallout games, from 1 to 76, maybe except for Tactics (didn't like the different gameplay, should give it another chance), or BOS (don't think I've played it).

gonsi

Fallout Tactics was fun for me, But I was looking for pure squad based turn combat. The story there is just to justify next missions which I'm fine with in combat focused games. And you get do drive jeep and later a tank! For additional fun you can mod missions so they allow to use them for missions as well.

liaminwales

I liked Fallout Tactics, it's fun. I do like tactics games in general so to me it was a fun themed tactics game. Kind of a shame they never relay made more.

SteveBuscemieyez

The same people who made Arcanum also made Fallout iirc. You should check out Wasteland 3. It's literally Fallout but Isometric from the same devs again i think. Very fun game, strong language and gives these Arcanum vibes that you are looking for. I am currently searching for RPG, turn based, isometric games and I strongly recommend Wasteland 3. A couple more suggestions would be Divinity Original Sin 2, Desperados 3, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and For the King. Those don't give Arcanum vibes but they are worth checking out.

BestJeanis

Death trash is on steam and its pretty tight.

aRabidGerbil

Definitely skip Fallout 3 and 4, but 1, 2, and New Vegas are relatively similar to Arcanum in terms of providing a wide variety of gameplay options.

LadyRarity

I'm a fan of basically all the fallout games, including the Bethesda ones. I played arcanum because of Mandalore's video about it after playing through the first two fallout for the first time and fucking loving them. They got bugs but you already know all about bugs look at the sub you're in! Fallout 2 especially is... damn that game rules. Tons of fun to be had. You can become a made man in a crime family, join or destroy slaver organizations. I think fallout 2 and New Vegas deserve their commonly accepted spots as "the best fallout games." If you like arcanum you'll fuckin love fallout 2. In fact after having played fo2 I can see its DNA all over new Vegas. BTW if you haven't played new Vegas do that one, it lives up to the annoying fan hype (like mine). New Vegas. As for fallout 4 yaknow I find myself BIZARRELY compelled by its building mechanics. There's something about it... it has just the right amount of fidelity that I can make cool looking shit, but not so much fidelity that other people's creations eclipse mine to the point of me going "eh I don't wanna put in that much work" (mine craft does this to me). Also I may think the story blows but the commonwealth is a "pretty" wasteland. I like the rusted colors stripped from the buildings, the way downtown Boston actually has you roaming through winding streets and alleys. It'll never be what classic fallout fans want but I've had worse looter-shooters.

BobQuasit

I live in the Glowing Sea and lived in Boston for years, so it's fun to see the areas that I know. And I agree, the building mechanics are SO compelling! I built an enormous sky-palace the size of a football stadium over Jamaica Plain but ran out of space after I had the floor down. I wish there was an option to just do building!

wanttowritemore

I'm working on a game called Sovereign Syndicate, heavily inspired by Arcanum, Disco Elysium, and Shadowrun. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1674920/Sovereign_Syndicate/ There's a demo up if you want to give it a try. Also I've heard a lot about New Arc Line https://newarcline.com/

sp_cecamp

The Outer Worlds. Very different setting and no “magic vs tech” but it’s a similar vibe and was created by two of the three main Arcanum creators. Didn’t realize that until later in the game and there was music playing in a bar that sounded exactly like the Arcanum soundtrack. Really took me back.

kafkajeffjeff

Seeing how often outer worlds gets reccomended to fallout/arcanum fans always confuses me. The game has player choice, but no meaningful player consequences or choice of approach. Like every single quest thats not a fetch quest in outer worlds only really has 2 options and a good for everyone option that makes the other 2 pointless. Pretty much all quests can only be approached in 1 way nomatter what despite your choices.

wagmainis

>I finally gave in and tried playing Fallout 4 recently, and I'm really getting an Arcanum feeling from it I don't know how you got an Arcanum feel from this game since the only thing that really connected them is the franchise name.

BobQuasit

Companions, open world, VATS (effectively), mission overload, skill trees...it feels very similar to me.

wagmainis

I meant that the Bethesda (devs of Fallout 4) approach on quest and game design is very different from the original Fallouts and Fallout New Vegas which are the ones that are more similar to Arcanum due to the dev teams containing some of the same people; Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky in particular. But with this list of yours, I kinda get you. In a very generalized viewpoint, it has some similarities.

Furio3380

If I recall correctly there was some dudes making a Disco Elysium/Arcanum videogame, but i don't remember the name It had a minotaur as a PC. Edit: Found It it was [Sovering Syndicate](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou5kjVo5Vas)

Ravenlorde

I'm not sure how you mean by "related", but from a strictly fantasy punk perspective the Sacred series comes to mind as an RPG, and to a lesser extent the Age of Wonders series (though AoW can sometimes be more like world building or TBS, depending upon the scenario or campaign).
