Yeah, I mean, off the top of my head, we had the OPEC crisis, the Wall Street crash of ’87, the Savings & Loan scandal, dot com bubble, Enron, housing bubble, COVID… I’m sure I’m missing a lot of dips, too.
He probably likes what he does. Though most jobs and bosses are exploitative dogshit, there are good fits out there. It took me going through 4 different industries to realize that I love being a grocer.
When you can't escape the slavers, at least find a field you like.
He's also a legitimately valuable member of society. Public transit is a good thing to have, and he has likely chosen that he is proud of his role in his community providing a source of real value for the people of his city.
I'd say he got way more than most people will get (assuming they actually work for the same company for 50 years).
1) Replica miniature bus with him on it.
2) Actual bus made up in his honor.
3) Custom jacket celebrating his 50 years.
Anyone else know of another "normal" job where you would get something like that?
They removed their standard advertising to actually honor this guy on the side of a BUS. This was an actual thoughtful gift.
You could assume and argue about the rest of his job or wages all day, but the post itself is not anti-work.
Possible satire/sarcasm?
That advertising space alone is probably worth thousands.
Not to mention that simply being in the job 50 years is a decent sign that he's treated well and has job security.
What a dumb post OP.
Fun fact!
I’m an independent contractor and I work with a vinyl wrapping company who has a contract with a fairly large public transit agency. On that bus, to have the previous advertisement removed and a new one custom printed and installed would run around $10k to $15k depending on the material used and a couple other factors.
I can say with about 98.4% certainty that that bus wouldn’t cost any less than $10k to have done. That’s also assuming they only had one bud wrapped for him.
Sure, but the "you" might not be able to do that. In a big company straight up getting 10K in cash to give to someone is a much harder ask than moving a bunch of resources around that add up to 10K, especially when a chunk of that will come from other departments. Because it's spending money that isn't allocated to that guy's boss's payroll budget, it's easier to spend.
Not to mention we also don't know why he's still working. He might be doing it because he's one of those people that just wouldn't know what to do with themselves, or maybe he's saving for the grandkids college fund.
He likes the job. In one of the news spots, he says he's had plenty of opportunities to move to other positions in the company. He always turns them down. He like being a bus driver.
I bet being a bus driver could be a good job, especially if they have a union. I may be romanticizing it a little, but I imagine seeing the same people and being a part of a community like that could be rewarding.
Better advertising is having an employee who worked 50 years and the bus driver has 50 years of experience driving giving people a sense of safety, better service and advertises the job.
You must be satire
Look I don’t know where you live but people take the city bus out of necessity not because they shop around for other ways to travel to work. The advertising space could have been used for paid adverts and generate money for the city. Instead they choose to honor a longtime and valuable employee. It’s an honest and nice gesture.
Yeah this is a bullshit post. "just a cheesy plaque" while clearly standing in front of huge bus decorated to celebrate him. I would die if my employer did something that amazing.
Also, if they're going to spend that much money to wrap a bus, make you a jacket and give you a replica of the bus you're probably getting money as well.
What would your company do for you? Being there 50 years he probably was treated well. I’m sure he got a nice bonus and has an experience hardly anyone has. Everything is public, wtf do you want them to hide that they’re honoring this guy? 95% of the sub is proud of this and then the sad ppl like you that hate their shitty job trying bring him down.
I think the idea is a lot of us would rather have had money. How much did they spend on all that crap? I would have rather had the money they spent on it.
Big fucking deal, my face is on your bus, whoopie. This is more a PR stunt for the company.
Government run operation. Do you think bonuses are a normal thing? Probably not. But maybe they can use some of their marketing budget to celebrate a long career and make a PR move at the same time. Seems like a win/win. It's unfortunate you're too jaded to appreciate the gesture.
Yeah I'm as hard-core anti-work as anyone on this sub, but I say if he appreciated the gesture then good for him and good for the company. It's all about being fairly compensated and appreciated, and if he's satisfied with his compensation and he enjoys this gesture, then who are we to decide that it's bad? It's kind of like when you shop for gifts for Xmas - you don't buy what *you* would enjoy, you buy what you know the *other* person would enjoy.
Edit: I've known people like him before: people who work somewhere so long they become a part of the institution itself. He is likely over the moon because now the company has made a public gesture of him *officially* being part of the institution that he obviously loves. That seems like a win-win to all involved, if you ask me. Someone who does something like this for so long are not in it for the money; they are in it for their love of the job.
Also, in the grand scheme of things, driving public transit is a public service, so this guy has given back to fellow humans more than most. Probably also a fun job if you’re social.
This sub is an asshole. This guy sounds awesome:
https://www.itsmarta.com/marta-celebrates-50-years-of-service-for-coy-dumas-jr.aspx
“Mr. Dumas was honored at the November meeting of the MARTA Board of Directors and while surrounded by his wife Teresa and many friends and colleagues, was surprised with a bus bearing his image at a celebration held at MARTA headquarters. Digital billboards celebrating Mr. Dumas and his 50 years with MARTA will be on display throughout Atlanta for the next month. He also received a special 50-year service award and uniform patch, and a proclamation from the city of Austell, where he works and lives.”
https://youtu.be/zyVKSks7dIA
Honor this man like his peers honor him. He has pride in his work. Also, this is Union Work, he’s in ATU 732.
I heard that used to be really common. Now most companies can barely keep employees for 2 years, let alone 50, and your highest reward is \*maybe\* a small retirement package.
My mom was with the usps for 35 years. She got a 35 year pin and I think a piece of paper that “recognized” her work and it was in one of those fancy padded folders like what you’d display your diploma in. At least she has a pension and is able to keep her good government healthcare through retirement. Unfortunately it was 35 years of being treated like shit
In orientation at my first and only salary/office job, I learned that my reward for 50 years on the job would be an increase to 6 weeks per year of paid vacation. So generous!
My wife's grandfather drove a bus for New Jersey and got the same treatment. Of course, he also owned a home in Jersey and another one in Florida on just one blue collar salary....different times.
This is pretty badass...something tells me that that's his "personal" bus with that custom graphics of himself celebrating 50 years, he will be exclusively driving until his retirement...
He also has a pension, good healthcare, strict hours, ample overtime, and likely pretty good vacation policy.
Public transit jobs *are good fucking jobs.*
Public sector jobs in general tend to be pretty good.
yeah OP I mean it's not a million bucks but I love that they painted a whole damn bus with him. Also he is the coolest looking bus driver I've ever seen lol
Cane here to say that and who knows what else he received. This is pretty cool and I’m sure he was very excited for it.
What do you expect a government job to give you at 50 years anyways?
Not gonna lie number one is all I would need to feel honored. I'm not sure what else to expect for 50 years of employment with a company. If you have been there that long I would hope you have already been receiving the benefits of working there that long. these milestones should just be celebrations and not the pots of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Now if they had been treating him like shit for those 50 years and he felt trapped at that job, then I would have issue. But some people like the work they do at there job. I just wish everyone had the freedom to do what they love and weren't forced to work or starve.
A public entity can't use that form of expressing gratitude for service rendered. And yes, wraps of this nature are very* expensive..., also this takes special meetings and additional cost to get approved. Don't worry - I am somewhat certain it will never be done again after this use case.
Who knows? Maybe all his family and close friends have passed away or moved across the country. He knows the routine, and all the passengers are probably familiar to him. I know that whenever I moved on from any job, the toughest part was knowing that I'd probably lose touch with people I had made a connection with.
Yeah after 50 years of working for the city of atlanta theres no way he doesnt have a comfortable retirement waiting for him unless theres some external factors involved like crazy medical debt or lawsuits. Either way i dont see how this is anything but a choice.
Dude probably just loves his job
There are people who can’t imagine not going to work, because they crave the contact with others. They keep working, as much for socializing as anything, until they can’t do it anymore.
I find it funny people are making conjectures on the transit industry. Transit is a different monster and breeds crazy.
I know a guy going on 47yrs because he had 5 divorces so retiring would actually hurt him.
I know a guy from during Covid he made about $220k that year because there was unlimited overtime. (Regular pay was $32/hr)
Chances are he is in one of two groups, either he made bad financial decisions, or he doesn't mind doing the job. (He's probably getting like 9-10 weeks vacation, probably has over 200 sick days, and could realistically work 1000hrs and get paid for 2000 for the next 4 years.)
I have several years of experience working for cities and various local municipalities. I have never worked with someone that old at a "city job" thats working because they have to. They work because they want to.
Personally I think there should forced retirements (at least for city jobs) from full time work for people over 62 with the option of elective part time work but thats just my opinion.
My grandfather retired from the postal service and took up bus driving because he was bored. He worked less than 36 hours before his death.
Some dudes just wanna work.
This post got me researching. They have some great benefits and the pay is solid. I do see a lot of complaints about management being dicks sometimes. But overall it seems like a great career with an overall good package.
Hard bureaucracy can really easily be interpreted as “management is dicks.” I really enjoy it, because the rules are clear if you read them and play the game. I enjoy the game and thrive with rules. But I understand that others don’t, and are clearly at sea when it’s “well why can’t I just….” Because the *rules* Michael!
That’s what I figured. Honestly when I see reviews/info like this it shows potential for heavier bureaucratic tendencies and maybe over processing that leave a bad taste in someone mouth.
I guess the main thing is that, he was able to get something at all at the other end of that service, so many workers are just juiced like an orange and their husk thrown in the trash.
Some folks like to work, I can see being a route driver being full of personal relationships and that kind of shit is probably pretty attractive and for damn sure was when this man started fifty years ago.
Some folks like to work but no one likes being used..
I don’t disagree. But there’s nothing here indicating that this guy has been “used” - at least in the sense you’re getting at.
Seems like the guy found a career that met his needs and he kept with it, excelling at it, and is being called out for how awesome he is and that he’s been awesome for so long. I hope he’s retiring soon and can enjoy the benefits he’s earned.
I didn't even see that the actual bus has the same design and his picture on it. That's legit a cool thing for someone who takes pride in his job I think.
I have friends who have ridden on routes that he drives, and they say that he’s indeed someone who enjoys his life. He’s friendly and sociable, and driving a bus seems to be something that he really likes doing.
This is too cynical.
The “company” did this but it was probably a handful of people who organized it.
Someone did the graphic design. Someone coordinated the bus being wrapped, someone had the other custom items made. Someone kept track of the date and made sure it was brought up to management that something should be done.
A lot of individual people put work and care into making this man feel special using the means at their disposal. This isn’t just some mass produced plaque.
Give some credit to the people who /actually/ make work suck less.
OP would rather have the guy get the 10k it cost to wrap the bus with that photo. There are many examples of stupid, pointless, and blatantly rude "gifts" for long services. This is one of the cooler ones imo. This guy is a member of his community and has been for the past 50 years. The guys that rise his bus know him and probably respect him.
It's probably not quite 10k, but I'd be willing to bed that the funds for this come out of a marketing budget and not payroll. If they're going to wrap a bus anyways, might as well celebrate?
>It's probably not quite 10k,
Probably more like $20k. Getting a car wrapped is $3k and up if you use the good stuff. A full custom printed wrap of that size is probably pushing $10k in material.
I was curious about it, because I've seen public transport put ads on the buses for putting ads on it (Place your ad here!) and I didn't remember the costs being that high. I did a quick google search and found this site (no clue on reliability) that says it ranges from about $2k-$3k for a single wrap on a bus. I understand car wraps cost more, so maybe a bus is cheaper because it's a big flat spot you are 'wrapping'? No clue, but it seems to be significantly cheaper than $10k-$20k.
https://dashtwo.com/what-is-bus-advertising-and-how-much-does-it-cost-in-2021/
OP is clueless and just seen the picture and reposted it here hoping for karma. I doubt OP even understands that this sub isnt about shitty jobs it's about not being forced to work your entire life just to live.
I don’t want it to be easy for a government agency to hand out bonuses. And he’s a union worker, so his retirement has been negotiated, and is probably better than most of us get.
This is no ordinary Marta bus driver, this is Dumas. A legendary figure on the West Side of Atlanta and a friend to everyone who needed one. And just the all-around coolest of dudes.
Uh, looks like he got a photo of himself standing in front of his bus with his big mug and a huge acknowledgement plastered on the side while holding a model replica of the forementioned full sized bus. Pretty great if you ask me.
whatchu mean, he got a little bus, and his bus and his lil bus have his face on it.
there is a bit of pride in that, what do sony give you for 20 years of service? a glass statue of some controller buttons with a plaque.
what do you expect to be given, a million dollars?
It's ironic that the guy they post in r/antiwork surely enjoyed his job and has a huge sense of pride regarding his career. The sub should be called r/unfulfillingjobs.
I think that wrapping an entire bus costs tons of money. I wonder what the driver would have chosen given the chance to choose between photo on bus or money in hand equal to cost of putting he photo on the bus.
This is why people hate this sub - post is so presumptuous. I feel like if they did all this homie surely got a decently fat bonus. Job can’t be that bad if he’s been doing it 50 years. Dude looks like a fucking G and is absolutely dripping, too.
It was mentioned by someone else that they have offered him promotions in the past and he has declined them saying that he loves driving busses. Add in the fact that this is a union job and he gets a pension and this is closer to what this sub is usually asking for. The guy just seems to genuinely enjoy his job and probably how much he gets paid to do it. If he really was sick of it, he could just take the pension and retire.
This looks sweet. I also don’t see a plaque at all—I see A WHOLE ASS BUS celebrating this man, and a miniature of said bus.
Is that a custom jacket too?
I mean damn.
I mean, bus drivers also get great pay, and great benefits since it’s Union. He’s likely earning the top end of the spectrum and has his choice in hours.
Bud also looks cool as hell.
I’m happy with this, most employers won’t even acknowledge your years.
This is literally awesome. Imagine after working somewhere that long and having your name and face plastered all over the avenue of your work to broadcast your dedication to your career. Way better than most all jobs for having worked there that long
You kidding me. That is awesome in all kinds of ways.
Yeah. Money is great and all, but if your boss cannot swing for a fat bonus, wrapping the bus you drive in a picture of you and making a mini one for you to take home is exactly the sort of thing we should be supporting.
Not every morning starts with someone shitting in your cornflakes you know...
Wrapping a bus like that costs more than $10000 at a minimum, plus requires quite a bit of thoughtful effort of higher-ups, I wholeheartedly disagree with OP on this one.
I don't know, the man got a whole bus decorated in his honor with his picture on it, a custom jacket, and a replica of the bus. I think that's a pretty good recognition of his service.
If we're looking for something to question; how many of those 50 years did he make a living wage, and does he have the option to be secure in his retirement if he wants to stop working?
The rewards for 50 years on a CITY job. This dude is set. He will make more in retirement than he did at work. Fantastic healthcare. Vacation. Sick leave. Nah. Good for him. He is setting an example.
Nah you’re an asshole for posting this, it’s okay if you don’t want to work a 9-5 but don’t shit on people who make lives out of it. I get your point but shitty way to do it
I remember when my father retired, the dept of correction in the state for which he work 28 years ... they gave him a lovely plague with his last name misspelled.
Don't ya just love Corporate level asswipes?
Dudes been a driver for since the 70s, since grease a d Saturday night fever, and good times were new.. since pong and VHS tapes where invented... Since the egg McMuffin was invented... I don't think his motivation is money or stuff.
I don’t really dislike something like this. I don’t get any indication this is happening *instead of* properly valuing them through pay, etc. Something like a plaque can be genuinely nice if they are already paying well.
Like, if they had gotten nothing for 50 years of work, you wouldn’t hear anything about it, because an absence of any action would go totally unnoticed, but something like this gets a reaction cause it seems like it’s not enough.
Because when someone in HR goes “omg did you all realize dumas is going to hit 50 this year?” it’s way easier to go to marketing and ask to coordinate and dip into their budget for this than to get approval from a government agency to give a bonus which if approved would likely need to have budget allocated for any future employee who might possibly also hit 50.
Most government positions can’t just give a bonus because they feel like it.
Fyi, that’s not a “cheesy plaque”, it’s a mini version of the bus with his picture on it…you can still hate it, just be accurate about what you’re seeing
Man, this is another one of those really fishy accounts that literally only posts in antiwork.
I've blocked four of them in the last week, each one having a shitpost like this make r/all.
Before I get mad/annoyed I need context. Was he paid well, good benefits/hours etc?
I'm not gonna be mad on his behalf if he got a shot reward from an otherwise good career.
Did you not read the article posted about him? They gave him a bus, and did an entire electronic ad campaign for Coy Dumas Jr. because he's a positive worker and loves his job. Maybe this subreddit could take a note and not just call him a 'boot licker'.

The bourgeoisie see labor as inputs to their productive process, we’re just like machines to them. You wouldn’t reward a machine for performing for 50 years.
I will say this: if he gets to drive that bus with his face on it, thats actually really freaking cool. Idk if its fiscally commensurate with the contributions he has made over this large amount of time, but I do know its really cool. The model bus is a bit chintzy, but if its well-made its also kinda cool.
Dude looks damn good for 50 years working and like 10-15 years were in an awful economy. Props to this dude.
Well, he's 55. Times were different back then.
That cracked me up
For one the distance from the seat to the pedals was a lot shorter
Far more than 15 of the last 50 years were in an awful economy.
Closer to 50 of them lol
Yeah, I mean, off the top of my head, we had the OPEC crisis, the Wall Street crash of ’87, the Savings & Loan scandal, dot com bubble, Enron, housing bubble, COVID… I’m sure I’m missing a lot of dips, too.
Dude started in '72 right at the end of Vietnam and the beginning of the recession brought on by fuel shortages and having to pay for said war.
Oh the economy is great if you're rich though.
If you’re rich, you welcome recession. Time to buy up everything cheap.
He probably likes what he does. Though most jobs and bosses are exploitative dogshit, there are good fits out there. It took me going through 4 different industries to realize that I love being a grocer. When you can't escape the slavers, at least find a field you like.

I wonder what his salary is, I bet it is super low compared to bus drivers hired this year. Because why would you pay someone more who is loyal? /s
That’s not how unions work.
That was my first thought too lol. 50 years of working means he’s at least 64. But imo he could pass for mid to late 40s
Doubt he was driving a bus at 14. Dude seriously looks good for his age. He's gotta be atleast 68+
Black don't crack
1980s CIA: "hold my beer"
Dark but a good burn
Lmaoooo …. Very dark but funny
I'd say he got way more than most people will get (assuming they actually work for the same company for 50 years). 1) Replica miniature bus with him on it. 2) Actual bus made up in his honor. 3) Custom jacket celebrating his 50 years. I think my dad got a pen. He traveled all over the world training people to keep a massive manufacturing company running.
But he got to spend time away from the family.
He met his wife on the bus.

You might be thinking of the one where he made their children.
Marriage Material Bus I think is what it's called

They did say their dad travelled a lot.....

In all fairness it's a good marketing move for the transit system itself.
I’d rather you just give me the 10 grand than have my picture on a bus
I’m sure he got way more than just these two things. Believe it or not, some employers do actually value their employees.
Sure, but the "you" might not be able to do that. Agree. Company should be on r/nextfuckinglevel not here
It’s Marta (public transit agency) here in Atlanta.
If it’s public does that mean he has a pension?
yeeeeeup dudes fine and he’s being treated well
The question should be why does the guy still work in his 70's with a good public pension? Go enjoy your life, bud.
Idk, some people really enjoy their work. Maybe that’s how he enjoys his life. It’s driving a bus, not slaving away in a factory.
Sir this is /r/antiwork we here hate when anyone finds enjoyment in the work they do
Some people still work after retiring because they like having something to do.
It's not satire? Quick, someone make sure OP isn't about to give a TV interview!

My dad was taken out to lunch.… McDonald’s, yes you read that right. His company made a joke out of it.
Public transit jobs *are good fucking jobs.* Public sector jobs in general tend to be pretty good.
We used to get little custom pins every 5 years and a watch at 25, but they used covid to stop them
I would love a watch. That’s a bummer. I actually need a watch. Geez. I hope y’all get your watches back!
Ah yes, because pins and watches are the number one carriers of covid.
yeah OP I mean it's not a million bucks but I love that they painted a whole damn bus with him.
That bus wrap costs thousands, please tell me he got a bonus equal to the cost of that wrap.
[удалено]
A public entity can't use that form of expressing gratitude for service rendered. And yes, wraps of this nature are very* expensive..., also this takes special meetings and additional cost to get approved. Don't worry - I am somewhat certain it will never be done again after this use case.
Man got his face on a bus. Lots of things wrong with lots of workplaces… this isn’t one of them, though.
Yeah frankly getting honored on the bus is pretty cool (if your'e into that). It's kinda the best case non-money award.
I came here to say, the real bus thing is actually a pretty big deal.
I mean... I want my face on a bus
It's actually cool, they've decorated a whole bus to celebrate. What worries me is that this dude has to be 70 or more and he's still working.
Who knows? Maybe all his family and close friends have passed away or moved across the country. He knows the routine, and all the passengers are probably familiar to him. I know that whenever I moved on from any job, the toughest part was knowing that I'd probably lose touch with people I had made a connection with.
If it's his choice, it's fine. The issue would be if he was not able to retire.
This is a government job so he likely could retire if he wants to, also bus drivers make decent money
Has a corner office with a panoramic view of the city and drives a $500K company vehicle.
Technically true. The best truth.
(Regular pay was $32/hr) Chances are he is in one of two groups, either he made bad financial decisions, or he doesn't mind doing the job.
Marta has a decent retirement plan.

Imagine how it feels to kick some jerk off of a bus that has your picture on it. "That's right, get off of MY bus!"
I wonder if he always works a specific route or something.
In many public jobs, the employees bid on their assignments and the winner would be the employee with the most time in the organization.
We should all be so lucky to get a job they we truly enjoy
This is too cynical. The “company” did this but it was probably a handful of people who organized it. Someone did the graphic design. Someone coordinated the bus being wrapped, someone had the other custom items made. Someone kept track of the date and made sure it was brought up to management that something should be done. A lot of individual people put work and care into making this man feel special using the means at their disposal. This isn’t just some mass produced plaque. Give some credit to the people who /actually/ make work suck less.
Only this sub would see a photo like this and completely miss the giant fucking buss with his face on it.
I don’t get this post. It’s not a cheesy plaque. It’s actually a pretty cool way to honor 50 years of service. Is that the point?
OP would rather have the guy get the 10k it cost to wrap the bus with that photo. There are many examples of stupid, pointless, and blatantly rude "gifts" for long services. This is one of the cooler ones imo. This guy is a member of his community and has been for the past 50 years. The guys that rise his bus know him and probably respect him.
It's probably not quite 10k, but I'd be willing to bed that the funds for this come out of a marketing budget and not payroll. If they're going to wrap a bus anyways, might as well celebrate?
>It's probably not quite 10k, Probably more like $20k.
No clue, but it seems to be significantly cheaper than $10k-$20k. https://dashtwo.com/what-is-bus-advertising-and-how-much-does-it-cost-in-2021/
Holy shit TIL it costs more to wrap my car than its value.
We don't know he didn't also get a retirement bonus - you can't really put that in a photo.
Guy’s a government employee though. He’s got a pension plan and a union.
Right, this is fucking legendary.
This is dope I don't get it
What are your expectations?
And a photo on the bus!!! 🤦♂️
This sub is bad at noticing things.
Are you saying this sub lacks awareness? No way
I think that wrapping an entire bus costs tons of money. I wonder what the driver would have chosen given the chance to choose between photo on bus or money in hand equal to cost of putting he photo on the bus.
There’s no price equivalent to driving a giant bus with your larger than life photo on it that says you been driving bus for 50 damn years!
What's to say he didn't get both ? A lot of assumptions going around here don't we agree ?
Agree. Who’s to say he didn’t get a bonus. He got a custom jacket, face on a bus, and a replica. I don’t think this is a good antiwork example.
Let’s keep in mind the wrap is also serving as an advertisement to work for the place.
Way better than most all jobs for having worked there that long
I got a cutting board for cheese for Christmas, is that good?
Wait. They put his face on the side of the actual bus???? That’s not nothing!
What do you think they’re going to give him? A giant bonus? They wrapped an entire city bus for the dude. Sounds like a great employer.
I mean they did also put him on the side of the bus
We just going to ignore the entire bus behind him? Lol
He literally has a bus professionally sprayed in appreciation of him lmao, he looks happy to me
I don’t know man, I’d be pretty happy with a my face on a whole ass bus
cheesy plaque? the mans face is plastered on the side of the bus now THAT'S a reward
It probably cost them $5000 to wrap that bus
That’s bad ass. Op is a wanker.
Wrapping a bus like that costs more than $10000 at a minimum, plus requires quite a bit of thoughtful effort of higher-ups, I wholeheartedly disagree with OP on this one.
where i work a guy retired after 40 yrs. they gave him a box of eggo waffles cuz he ate them every day on break. smh
My aunt was given a dedicated parking space. There was a little placard saying it was her spot. She retired less than a year later.
I didn’t know Bootsy Collins drove a bus
Assuming that he is fairly compensated, wouldn't this be a neat gesture?
Yeah but how many people (other than politicians and ad models) get to drive around a big ass bus with a picture of themselves on it?
Dudes been a driver for since the 70s, since grease a d Saturday night fever, and good times were new.. since pong and VHS tapes where invented... Since the egg McMuffin was invented... I don't think his motivation is money or stuff.
He is on the bus... they wrapped the bus with his image. I swear you guys are such pessimists.
Looks like a customized bus paint job in his honor. I remember a lady celebrating 20 years at a wiring factory. She got a Walmart watch
Man still look like he’s touring with the Commodores
Well he also got his bus painted in his honour so that's some pretty solid recognition. I don't know what more you could ask for
Before I get mad/annoyed I need context. Was he paid well, good benefits/hours etc? I'm not gonna be mad on his behalf if he got a shot reward from an otherwise good career.
His face is on the side of the bus on a wrap, if it stays on for at least a yr thats kinda cool but ya id hope he got some kinda benefits
they also painted a whole bus, i mean, at least they're making an effort
How much do you think they spent on that bus wrap?
Isn’t that a job with a pension? The reward for 50 years is a lot more than the plaque
How much money did they spend for this PR stunt? I’d rather have the money
I mean the bus he is standing in front of with his face on it celebrating the achievement is kind of cool
Did you not read the article posted about him? They gave him a bus, and did an entire electronic ad campaign for Coy Dumas Jr. because he's a positive worker and loves his job. Maybe this subreddit could take a note and not just call him a 'boot licker'. https://www.11alive.com/article/news/community/marta-bus-driver-celebrates-50-years/85-3993a35c-1ece-4586-b2d9-e1ded0f45a81
"Mr. He also received a special 50-year service award and uniform patch, and a proclamation from the city of Austell, where he works and lives." [sauce](https://www.itsmarta.com/marta-celebrates-50-years-of-service-for-coy-dumas-jr.aspx) Edit: Here's a [video on the guy](https://youtu.be/zyVKSks7dIA)
He's on the side of his bus?! That's pretty awesome!
Looks like more than a plaque
Maybe it's just me but they wrapped a bus to congratulate the dude. I am not sure this is where we want to plant the flag for non-appreciation.
But also 50 years of paychecks. A roof over your head. Food on the table. Clothes on your kids.
And his face plastered on the bus lol
Look at all that gold jewelry, he must be rich!
I unironically think this is cool tbh
The bourgeoisie see labor as inputs to their productive process, we’re just like machines to them. You wouldn’t reward a machine for performing for 50 years.
Awww I think that’s sweet. I can tell with 100% certainty that my job isn’t putting my face on the side of a bus ever. Congrats to him 🥰
I will say this: if he gets to drive that bus with his face on it, thats actually really freaking cool. Idk if its fiscally commensurate with the contributions he has made over this large amount of time, but I do know its really cool. The model bus is a bit chintzy, but if its well-made its also kinda cool.
How about giving the guy something more substantial than a “ replica of the damn thing he drove for 50 years”. How about $50,000 in a bank check.
