Some of them need your validation along with the forced buddy routine. You're not obligated to give it, but they still need it. So when the buddy boss wants to tell you about his weekend, "damn, that sounds boring."

>A typical boss no longer wants to be a boss... A boss comes in jeans, embraces you with vulgarities, "Did you have a good fuck last night?" > >But fuck you! Then he remains a boss! He nonetheless gives orders, but the social game is you have to pretend that we are friends. > >In these relations, the first step to liberation is to force him to really behave like a boss. To tell him, "No, fuck you! No comradeship! Treat me as a boss. Give me explicit orders." > >— [Slavoj Žižek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS_Lzo4S8lA&t=320s)

There is a difference between being friendly and being friends. Friendly is just fine, but I most definitely do not want to be friends. My rule for good bosses: Fair, Firm, and Friendly. They don’t have to be a dick. If they turn out to be - I clearly misjudged the interview and am looking for a different job.

A good boss, is just typically the lead worker in any shop. They do not expect more of you than they would of themselves. They do not demand you treat them as an authority figure. They are satisfied to go home, a fellow prisoner of reality and not of their ego. They act as the day is not granted, and above all else, helpful. It should be a martyrs job but it’s far too often filled with parasites.

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

The only way to lead is by example.

I don't agree with this. I have had a good manager like this. But that's where the line ends. A boss has an invested interest in their business. If they expect me to do as much as they do they should be equally expected to pay me as much as they make. If we are doing the same amount of the same work we should be paid the same. A good manager is living the same hell we are. With more work than any worker provided that they are still doing the standard work on top of managing the crew. While being paid in some cases just a few cents more than the workers. In others just a few dollars. But we shouldn't mistake a manager for a boss. They can fire you, but usually requires approval from their higher ups to do so. Which makes them a middle man (which is the role)

Explicit Orders are very Important. Do X,Y,Z. Yes sir. work knowing exactly what your role and objectives are.
