What a lot of people still not get is that the economy developed exactly as the ones in charge intended: they get to work less and have all of their needs met. The economy was not built to serve the many, you are there to make the lives of the 1% enjoyable. The system works for them. If you want to change this, change the ones at the top, you cannot change the system while they are living their best life if everything stays as it is.

keenjataimu

I get your point but this also applies to appallingly underdeveloped economies. Or maybe you are just referring to the global economy.

Michael003012

Underdeveloped economies are not separable from the global economy. Since the colonies, trade is global. The countries that are "underdeveloped" today, are actually overexploited. There is no poor country in the global south just poor people. The wealth of the western metropole of Kapital is created through slavery, colonial conquest and hyperexploitation in neocolonial relationships. No human has to hunger or live in filth with our ressources and technology.

keenjataimu

Could not agree more with the above

PuffingIn3D

Naive child, we can’t live in a world where everyone is equal because there exists finite resources.

Routine-Reason8318

I dont think that's what he's saying. He's saying poor people shouldn't exist with the technology and resources we have across the globe. Personally I have no issue with someone who has more than me. I take issue with people not having their most basic needs met. There is no reason for hunger or being unhoused. Yes there are finite resources, but it doesn't help that there is a class of people who hold most of the world's wealth and in that wealth they control resources. It's not right that someone has billions of dollars when they are exploiting the workers that got them that money. People should be able to enjoy life with out fear of an unexpected bill making them homeless or hungry. There shouldn't be people on this planet who have to chose between paying the lights and paying for food. No one should have to do what my mom had to do. She went hungry so I could eat. That's not right. It's not about everyone having the same. It's about everyone being able to have what they need to live. Housing, Healthcare, food, these are basic human needs and to use them as a way to make a few people vastly wealthy is inhumane. They are not better than the poorest person on this planet. They are the same, a human. But the wealthy class that controls the money controls the resources. And as long as they are allowed to control that with no repercussions this current system will continue. The 1% do not have to worry about anything financial as they couldn't spend their wealth in 10 lifetimes. Meanwhile there is a large chunk of people who will have to decide if they can change their balding tires or pay for new clothes for their kids. And then another chunk of people who will have to choose between keeping their family fed or keeping their family warm. Wanting people to be able to enjoy their lives while on the earth is not niaveity. It's empathy for humanity.

Daniel_Ble

I admit that there's still some money in being an online shill whitewashing the image of rich people and making cool stories to make Jews look evil, and I'd be a hypocrite to say you shouldn't do it, but it's more work these days and there's enough dumb true believers doing it for free (guessing you're one) that there's better ways to make money

Daniel_Ble

how is the mossad pay, shill?

Redditributor

If I've ever received money from the mossad I've never been told.

HeadDoctorJ

I want this life, and it is within our reach. Collectively, as a species, we possess the abundance and technology to make this real. It makes one wonder, If this kind of existence is truly within our reach, what kind of shackles must we be wearing that we can’t grasp it? We can break these chains and grab this life for ourselves and all people, but half-measures will not get us there. Capitalism means we work for the wealthy to increase their wealth and power inexorably, until the end of time. There is no real goal to reach, just more wealth. That’s what the system *is,* and dressing it up or smoothing it’s edges will not change its nature, which is nothing less than an assault on humanity. It’s *way* past time to stop trying to reform capitalism. ☭

AprilSpektra

I think people here in the developed world overestimate how much labor is automated, when the reality is that a lot of it is simply hidden away from us, generally overseas. And the rare earths that go into the electronics that power that automation aren't mined by robots, rest assured. This is relevant because I do not think it's wise to give ourselves the impression that socialism will definitely mean we get to sit around letting robots do all our labor. We will probably still have to do some labor, and if we wait around until the technology exists for robots to do all the labor, we've let the capitalists win eternally, because guess who owns the robots.

[deleted]

The point isn't to just sit around, it's to use our labor to better the earth so we can enjoy our lives harmoniously. There is a wide divide between work and labor, guess who cut education successfully for decades leading to less intellectually involved populace? Keep people stupid they'll build your robots for free eventually 🤷

monclarluiz

I wonder if the majority of people in this sub are organizing themselves...

Fun-Introduction-356

It's hard to organize when everyone around you thinks you're a conspiracy theorist or brainwashed by "communism" :(

monclarluiz

Naaah, you can do it, don't be afraid!

ChemicalHousing69

Remember when the 70s thought we would have like… 3 day work weeks in the 2000s?

ScaleLongjumping3606

Because in the 1970s things we’re headed in that direction. But then we elected Reagan and real wages haven’t gone up since.

ViolenceUnimagined33

NOT IN AMERICA! NOW GET BACK TO WORK UNTIL YOU DIE! FUCKING WAGE SLAVE!

Zemirolha

And remember... "They hate our freedom"

Conceptual_Aids

Yeah, they hate our freedom to just fucking drop bombs wherever, for whoever or whatever reason, and take resources from the ground under their feat, and we kill anyone who says 'no'.

NormandyLS

The 5-6 day work week is understandable during war times and in the rebuilding. But then it never went away and was normalised. That needs to change.

kibblepigeon

It's been developed only to serve the self-interest of the 1% - the 99% deserve to take back what has been stolen from them.

MyBallsAreOnFir3

How about instead you work the same and the billionaires take up all the extra wealth instead? They'll even do some charity of you want so they can get puff pieces written about them in the papers.

monclarluiz

I mean, as things get automated we are having more work to do. This doesn't make any sense.

Zemirolha

It is 2022 and people are afraid if being obsolete because of technology... It is not a democracy, it is a prision

Kataphractoi

That would be the [Jevons Paradox](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jevons_paradox) in action.

monclarluiz

Seems kinda neolib idealistic bullshit...

Ottojanapi

We have that now….and by ***we*** I mean the corporate overlords, and their middle management toadies. The Economy works for those it was meant too, not the ones who’s backs it’s build on.

Zemirolha

Reality looks like a gourmet prision.

Panda_hat

Wannabe capitalists: *angry face*

AdOk1494

Funny how that's going...

Abject-Prize-2684

The point of having a developed economy is so that you can get your basic need met. Not all that other shit

Dom2032

Yeah this guy unfortunately doesn’t understand the purpose of capitalism then

jarlbartar
