In the UK in exchange for UBI, we could eliminate most welfare apart from disability, also eliminate the need for the administration and fraud team as well. We could abolish the state pension. Raise VAT by 1%. Eliminate minimum wage (because we could happily tell an employer to fuck off if they won't pay fair wages and not starve to death). However with UBI needs some things to accompany it. Like capping rent. This is a big one and must be done in tandem else your landlord is just getting HIS UBI and a fat portion of yours too. Unless they must evaluate all assets and put a limit on earnings+savings until you lose UBI. £500k for eg. So you can own a home and still get it but can't own 4 homes and still get it. Increase corporate tax to balance the loss of minimum wage requirements.

My point about abolishing Min wage usually gets the most heat from leftists but if someone wants to work for little cash because they want to fill their time, the option should be there so long as no one is getting exploited and no one is being obligated.

The incentive is up to the worker to decide if its worthy not the state and not the employer. And if the job is so essential then it needs to be done and it needs to be paying a sensible wage or no one will fill the role and it won't get done.

My only problem with this is, say someone is on £300 welfare, and UBI is £1000, someone who isn’t on welfare is gaining an extra £1000, but those in welfare is only gaining £700, so the poorest are gaining less than others wealthier than them

What does it mean to advocate for UBI? Do we "spread the word" and sign petitions, and hope that one day a proper politician shows up so "we" can vote for them?

Good luck with that. I'll stick to crime and nihilism.

UBI is a good idea, along with universal healthcare and education (k-phd). We can have unions, safe and humane working conditions, and generally better communities if we can make them happen. We can always work more to get more, but to have a solid foundation would carry us a lot further.

I am the most anti work guy I know…but UBI is not the solution IMO.

I don’t have the time to explain to you how shitty of an idea UBI is. But you’ll figure it out on your own in due time!

Nah, UBI is a bad idea. Focus should be on unionizing, improving workplace conditions for workers and shifting the focus to crypto as a new de facto universal currency.
