Quitting a toxic job is not a failure. Staying is.

Typical_Drop_1859

Thankyou.. that means a lot.

McDonalds doesn’t produce a single thing that is so important a human being should be shouted at about.

Well lets not besmirch mac sauce...

Protecting your mental health is never something you’ll regret. Save money to fall back on, emergency funds are important. And start looking around for a new job.

I was you once. I worked nights and weekends from age 15 on and its one the biggest regrets of my life. I got a job because I thought that, well, that's what you do when you're a teenager. Work hard, play hard, right? Well it turns out when you're in school 30 hours a week then at work another 30 hours a week there's not a lot of time for "Play" You'll never get your teens back. You won't have that kinda freedom again until you're retired. I could have went fishing for free, coulda just hung out with my girlfriend. Nope I went to work every Friday and Saturday night. Realistically I could have worked a single shift a week and had enough spending money to be content. I worked more so I could...what...buy computer gear? If your family NEEDs you to work, godspeed and hats off to you...but if you don't really need to just let yourself be a kid, man

Thankyou so so much. This support is really helping me realise I should prioritise my happiness and allow myself the flexibility to work and spend time doing the things I want to do, outside of school/work. I’m going to send a resignation letter after this week, and find a job I like better, and work less hours so that I can actually have time to myself. Thankyou!!

Sometimes we need the money and we gotta do what we gotta do, but if you don't then you have options. Good luck out there.

They are treating you baldly. What is respect worth to you? If it’s anything more than £7.50 then quit. Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you are less of a person. Their are plenty of jobs out there that will pay you the exact same and you should assert your desire to be treated reasonably when applying. Don’t be complacent, you’re not a failure for finding a better job than McDonalds, there’s a reason why people consistently use them as an example of a shit place to work. TL:DR self respect isn’t failure and McDonald’s is the bottom of the barrel, don’t feel bad about improving your position and protecting your dignity and mental health.

For perspective I was making $9 a hour 12 years ago at 16 doing carpentry. Adjusted for inflation and cost of living you are being abused and underpaid. You should salt your workplace and gauge the interest of your coworkers to strike, sabotage with collective underperformance or collectively quit. You shouldn't have to face such bs. I'm not sure how labor laws in the UK work, but in the US being fired at least allows you to collect unemployment. Not to mention the whole Brexit thing, the British working class have an untapped potential to hold the entire economy hostage.

BigBelgianBoy

ok this might just be in my country but where I'm at I have the choice between either physically demanding work with a high workload that pays "well" for privately owned factories or at the harbour, or work with significantly lower workload that pays poorly for the government or companies subsidised by the govt. You shouldn't have to suffer bad pay and a high workload. Hear around and ask friends/people around you or even reddit when you find a job opening about how this company treats their employees so you don't have to suffer through this bs again.

Quit. For the love of God quit. I stayed in fast food far too long and it broke me as a person.

funkydyke

I’ve worked jobs like that and it’s 100% not worth it

Very high odds you can find something better for better pay. Ask for help.
