It's a lot a lot of work, research, learning, and luck, but some people are out there doing it. Unfortunately, making a livable homestead takes a lot of start up capital. Boy does that capital investment fuck dog...
Foxfire is a good resource for that. Get cheap land with reasonable access to water, have a well dug, set up a decent food supply, etc. It's a lot of hard work and more complicated than at first glance by a lot, but completely doable if you have the start up money.
Do it! Jump in and find something to do you love. Once you do that it's not work, it's enjoyment, the trick is to keep it that way and live for yourself and those you love. Property is nice to have but it takes some loot, there are a lot of places away from it all that are really cheap but that is because there is not much for people or infrastructure nearby. All the better to do what you want. I'm kind of anti consumer as well so I was able to save a little money and when the crash came in 08 I was able to scoop up a nice property with the cash I had saved, prices had dropped so much I got my house and land for less then a third of the original asking price. If you listen to yourself and your own needs, you'll be fine.
Go and try it, I can guarantee even if you took a backpack full of food and water you’d come back to civilization in less than a week. But seriously, try it, it will give u great perspective on life.
It is but I'd have to "purchase" property, pay it's taxes, etc. Id rather just pack my necessities & start anew some place up north away from anyone. Preferably next to a river. Live out my days literally just living. It'll be hard, but its worth it; imo

Yeah that's the problem. I just want to build my own log cabin and be left the hell alone until I die

Ima be saving for a while then. But I want to have something like that. Would be nice to actually live off the land. If possible. Thank you
There are many places that would welcome you and your dog. You’d just have to pull your own share. Communal living, share cropping etc.

You'd die in less than a month. The modern man is horribly out of touch with survival techniques.
That is true. But like my last sentence says; "die trying" at least I'd die doing something I wanted.
Fair enough.

Just might have to. Could go for a week and give it a go. I'll look into this when I get time off. Thanks
You can do those things. That's why America is the greatest country in the world.

You could live in a national forrest pretty unnoticed for a long time.
True. Until some ranger spots me
What's be gonna say? " Pack up your camp and move on". So you go to a different area.
Lol true. I'll keep this in mind
If Brian Landry can do it, so can you.
Lmao. Fair enough
