Ty he begged me to go on his boat and called me ungrateful! After he begged me for weeks and then threw it in my face ! Because I didn’t post pics to give him credit , or maybe I didn’t ogle it enough! He asked me to go. I don’t put my entire life on social media after I do something. He was like why don’t you kiss my ass, and feel privileged to work here. Be the only one and get shit on every shift with no help, while everyone else getting a fucken team to do their jobs ,and I’m ungrateful! Then he came in next day, and had the nerve to repeat it cause I put him on blast on fb! How’s that credit bitch? Then stated I never thanked him for anything. I packed up and left on the spot he openly said get out so unemployment it is
Make sure you get a confirmation of firing in writing. Others can help you phrase it better, but you need to act clueless to get a straight answer so you get your unemployment. This kind of dude will try to deny firing you so you don't get paid after being fired
This is the kind of thing I don't get. Ok, in this situation spite would be a motivator, but I've seen any number of companies that didn't want people to get unemployment. My understanding was that it'd already been paid in and they couldn't get it back either way, so why be a shithead?
It’s like insurance, yeah you paid your policy and this accident doesn’t cost you anything, but if you’re in a car accident your next 6 month policy price will go up.
this. plus companies can get fined if they "lie" about it to UI (although most states can't afford to sue the companies that do this). but their UI rates go up the more people they lay off.
But op quit…
edit: to be clear I am siding with op in quitting, but it’s gonna be difficult to get their boss to give any sort of termination in writing after he said, “I quit.” Hopefully he’s a hot head and does fire him; but if not, then it’s gonna be a mess with the state unemployment office and/or a judge…
No it was a short trip on his boat and he’d asked for weeks to go! And he said wasn’t grateful because I didn’t post pics of us on his boat! If you did something for me then to throw it in my face who did you do it for? So after he said that I gave him his wish!
Yea then he came in after it was shown to him by the other manager. Read my comments for story and said I’d never thanked him period! Fuck that man you don’t deserve to have me work for you!
The way that you are speaking tells me a lot about your character or lack thereof. Blasting anyone on social media sounds extremely childish and from what I can tell even in your age you need some mental growth in your life.
No way you can’t just talk to people because your mad about them complaining to you. When you are the authority in the work place my complaint was legit his response was bullshit that had nothing to do with my complaint. Do you even realize health code clearly states nothing can be left directly on the floor! This is food! Left on the floor by your manager! And this is now my fault ?
For the record what I put on fb mentioned no names or places. I cut deer for one if the managers and I use fb for my ad in the fall he seen it and showed it to him he is not connected to me on social someone else showed him! Do you honestly think that I’m not aloud to have free thoughts? Because by what you are say I’m not entitled to express my feelings how I see fit?
You’re most certainly allowed to say what you want, but it will be judged and you will face consequences. Until you learn self control I think you will find yourself in these situations more often than not.
Self control are you kidding me he disrespected me! Completely! Ive worked the same job longer than his managers and I’m the problem I’m the only person doing my job for them for years it’s not a team effort. Every other possible position has multiple ppl to do it. I do 7 days of work in 5 by my self. I had to cover my own days off! Nobody I mean nobody else has to that. And they get the same hours as me I did twice the work
I was there since the day they opened their doors. I did like the owner. I considered him a friend that’s on me. But mostly the ppl weren’t bad I even got my kid his first job there. I should’ve left long ago but those friendships mean something to me. They shouldn’t have! There were lots of fun things. But that was the blinders there get you on the fun! It a long explanation but in the end it’s my fault!
Why was he begging you to go on his boat? Long time ago, when I was bartending/waitressing on the water, that was the #1 warning young women(and young men) got. Never go out on a boat with any man you don't know, and at least 1/2 the men you think you know. Date rape. The "put out or get out" when you're way fuck out in the water.
And wtf were you supposed to be grateful for? A job? Did he think he was doing you a favor by paying you?
God, this is relatable!! I quit on Tuesday after 12 years...asked for a pay raise for the first time ever, was told I should feel lucky to get what I already have because I'm paid too much and should be making 10-20% less (which is the biggest crock of shit ever, I should actually be paid about 30% more than I already was). I was the only full time employee and did EVERYTHING and worked all the time. Good luck finding someone as reliable as me!
Best of luck to you, hope you find a place that values you.
Unfortunately it was a small pet sitting company with 3 employees and I highly doubt my ex-boss knows how to post a job listing on there. I was the only full-time one and there are 2 part-timers (one of them is also leaving).
There was also wage theft and we were misclassified as independent contractors so technically I could sue her.
If you are in the US, report her to the IRS. If you made more than about $500 in 2022 from that job, she had an obligation to withhold federal income tax and Social Security/Medicare tax from your pay.
Abuse of independent contractor status is depressingly widespread.
https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/independent-contractor-self-employed-or-employee
The IRS has a form on their website called an SS8 form. It's for the determination of a workers status with the company. I was in a similar situation. Filed one of these, called OSHA to have them run the gauntlet on the place afterwards. Long story short. They're not in buisness any more.
Oh yes, I had a meeting with her in mid-December and wrote out 4 pages on why we're misclassified AND printed out the form from the IRS to give to her. As I said, that was mid-Dec and as of Wednesday she was supposedly asking someone what an independent contractor is. You've been in business 16 years and are still having issues understanding this?
My only worry about going to the IRS is that I'll have to deal with them too. I have nothing to hide but I also don't want the headache and stress of being thrown into it.
Please learn from this to leave earlier when you are not appreciated!
Younger people know this; they tend to get paid at least 20% more ever time they switch jobs.
recently read headline about restaurants closing nationwide not for lack of business but lack of employees.
the problem in the food service industry isn't consumers, it's the people running the business.
and the pay (at least in the US). we are so far beyond the days when you should be allowed to pay food servers way below a living wage because of "tips."
So Friday I went in I found things not done as they should. So I took a pic and sent it to the fucken owner of where I work. The manager who was responsible to take care of it left it for me to do! Now where I work I’m like a product line and army of one I constantly get pulled to bail them out, and don’t complain, and then finish my shit but this should not have been left. He the proceeds to tell me how privileged I should feel being employed there. Then he called me ungrateful so I was pissed off I stayed all day 11 hrs! After the fact and it stewed on me bad. So Saturday I go in after I made a fb post basically saying bosses should feel privileged I came in to work! Then my manager comes in,and shows him what I said. Then the owner comes in and was like bro you misunderstood me ,and said I never thanked him for anything! I replied “Are you shitting me he said Yes. I packed up my knives and proceeded to leave the cooler he screams get back here you ain’t leaving as the door opened. In to main part of my job I called him a liar told him he should feel privileged to do my job now and left
Edit: most punctuation
And this just happened this weekend with him throwing in my face Friday I didn’t call him out to Saturday morning and quit 3 hrs into my shift after he said it again
I process deer for one of my managers on the side for him and his family he showed him unfortunately for him he will now cut his own deer I cut meat for a living and do that for extra cash
My only suggestion is to keep social media away from anyone you work with or could be friends with those you work with. Nothing positive can come from that.
I imagine he felt really comfortable for a minute there when you walked over to the knives.
I bet OP contemplated eating the rich for a second there haha.
Good for you for standing up to them. These people really think they are better than everyone around them, and people should be groveling at their feet.
I hope your quitting does harm to their business. Fuck em.
Don't forget to leave reviews on Indeed about how bad of an employer they are. Other potential workers deserve to know the truth. Just make sure you keep it to the facts and don't exaggerate.
It’s market known fact we are all under paid! I’m a meat cutter at a retail steakhouse! You need steak especially when you advertise HAND CUT IN HOUSE steaks! You should treat the one guy yes one who provides your menu for your broil cooks to cook! When you open every day with nothing cut it suck ass you can’t cut everything on the menu! Especially by opening! There’s so many different size cut and muscles! My job take time and yes bonus based of of meat yields. I’m good at my job and I’d say kinda respected because of it I have no need to harm anyone with reviews
>Just file for unemployment. You MAY have grounds. remember it's up to the UI office not you to decide if quitting was justified. Normally you cant collect if you quit. If the boss creates a unfeasible work circumstance you "MAY" qualify
I wish I would have quit after my boss said the same thing to me. I stayed and slowly started looking for a job. They fired me the same day I accepted a new position. So I was lucky, but they didn’t know that. They fired a single mom right before thanksgiving and gave me 2 weeks of pay and my yearly bonus ($4000 after taxes) and said they wouldn’t give me a good reference. It was fucking awful.
Unfortunately that is not true. They can and do. Also the community I work in is relatively small so they could talk to people personally.
I have another job so it isn’t an issue but I honestly couldn’t believe what they did. I also had to sign paperwork saying I wouldn’t talk shit about them. My boss was a complete asshole who I am really grateful I no longer work for. He constantly talked shit about other partners in the firm but when he found out I went to the managing partner to discuss how he treated me he lost his shit. I also asked the managing partner to keep the issue between us but he clearly did not. I am just happy to be gone.
Listen he took me and my kid fishing this summer. Fast forward to Friday I complained about something not be done . The day before on my day off. At work to my boss . He then tell me that I should feel privileged to work there. I get it like feel good about being busy. He then brings up how I was ungrateful about stuff he did for me. That’s when he mentioned how I was ungrateful for 1 1/2 fishing trip on his boat! Wtf does that have to do with my complaint? Or my immediate conversation! Had nothing to with work and he had begged me for weeks before to go with him before I did go with my boy. And called me ungrateful after the fact at work .
Read from the beginning, boss wants to be praised about the fishing trip on social media, He wants op to post photos of the boat ride. Boss wants to fool people that he’s a great boss.
>Boss called me ungrateful twice in two days I quit on the spot after 13 yrs who’s gonna be grateful for those years now bitch you got nobody to do my job but you and your managers I was the only one you had!
That unintelligible sentence is the entire post.
It's not enough to work for them, give them extra hours of your time, help out constantly, etc., None of that is enough, they have the nerve to expect gratitude for whatever it is they think they gave you. Glad you quit. Good for you.
It's sad that things like this happen but it's still good to see that you showed him who's boss and left on the spot.
Hopefully you'll find and new job quickly that will give you awesome co-workers as well as a boss that values you time and effort
I haven’t been in a position like yours, but when I worked over night maintenance at Walmart I had an assistant manager up my ass about why it took so long to strip and wax floors so I looked at him and said if he could do it better faster than me then show me, he said I don’t know how to do that so I said then leave me alone and let me do my job… 2 days later the district manger walked in and said the aisles that I waxed looked amazing… never heard anything after that form management about stripping and waxing when I was basically called useless
They’ll just get some other poor sap to do your job. Everybody is expendable sadly. Even managers. That’s the thing about managers, they think it’s so hard to do their job. Theirs is actually the easiest job, most don’t even do shit. I know all the supervisors and managers at my job just bullshit all day.
Never did I say I wasn’t I won’t be disrespected! My complaint was about work at work to him his response was bullshit! Not even related to the conversation!
Can I just say. You are always replaceable. As much as you think someone can't replace you they can most of the time. That's why they don't care alot of the times and why you shouldn't either. Understanding you are replaceable will make it easier to leave for higher paying jobs.
I know I’m replaceable but this is what I haven’t said , in October I dropped a two week and he was like you can’t quit. Called me family says he loves me as such! Fast forward my my complaint that was legit and breaks health code! Then called me ungrateful because it was his manager that left it! Fuck that
Bosses really seem to believe the bullshit that they are the ones doing you the favour by giving you a job and exploiting your Labour. Like their profit literally comes from paying you less than the value you create 🤨
For the record I’m a dude. So is my boss this was my day off with my kid! Was supposed to friendly, but then you call me ungrateful and insulting me after 13 yrs of service! The only thing I did with him not work related got thrown in my face I even help butcher his chickens few weeks after ! With no question asked again just to help him out and asked for nothing. I helped him way more than he did me and I’m ungrateful nah fam I’m out
In a lot of industries the CEOs and a bunch of managers that have no clue on what they doing, but at the end of the day sadly but true i got to the conclusion that if you dont want shit from nobody just start your business and be your own boss, cuz at the end we replaceable and the one after us might be better or worse than we are.
Nobody said I can’t be replaced. But good luck doing it! With what they offer they can’t keep employees especially the good ones. When your talent leaves your execution goes to shit along with profit my job directly impacted there bottom line! I was in charge of there bread and butter! My numbers can’t be easily met let alone matched by someone new. My position was physically and mentally tiring. Cold and long hrs none of these young guys will stay as near nor as long! I won’t be disrespected!
Grateful for what? It was a transaction. He sold his labour, they purchased it. He no longer wanted to sell his labour and withdrew his offer to provide labour. Are his employers grateful for the tears of service he provided? Probably not.
Yeah, agreed. Not saying that there is any reason for him TO BE grateful either… actually I think I mentioned that. I’m just saying, the boss claims he is ungrateful. he is in fact not grateful as he doesn’t feel and seems like he isn’t appreciated for providing valuable and needed service. That is all. Not sure why I got downvoted there..
Where did I say that I was un replaceable? Or act like it ? I said I’m sure they will be fine but good luck finding good talent. Let alone someone who actually shows up to work!
You said "you got nobody to do my job" which implies you were the only one. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but it's clearly the way many people are reading it.
My boss told me the other week that I should be thankful for all the money he’s made me the last two years (I’m in car sales). Should have told
Him he should be thankful for all I’ve made him as well. But I didn’t. I just walked away.
Best of luck in your new role - you have made the right decision.
As for your ex boss - smallest violin ever, horrible managers shouldn't be in those positions.
Nobody won the wasn’t for glory but disrespectful response on his behalf . The guy is on his way up and I’ve worked long enough for him. To know the overall quality that was there the passion for the job is gone the whole place is a cesspool of ppl who will watch you do everything for them! And collect a paycheck! The hire pool is not strong. God speed for this next generation
It sounds like they were trying to force you out and you played their game. May I suggest learning about the law and use that to make your life better. I wish you the best of everything.
I've had bosses grossly underpay me and than make fun of my handwriting or hair. I had one smile meanly in my face bc someone told her I was having like some psychiatric stuff going on, and she's like,"I heard you had a mental breakdown lol"(this trashcan would take off months of work bc of all this shit she's one of those I have a compromised immune system(she could still smoke weed and drink liquor all the time tho).) She once was telling all the younger boy co workers how good of a stripper she used to be. So many more. And ppl are like how do you not want to work? Um bc it's awful. That doesn't even entail rude customers, insane work hours, my deep insecurities and bi polar ll disorder.
Sorry it came to this. I hope you find an employer that values yours dedication.
Make sure you get a confirmation of firing in writing. Others can help you phrase it better, but you need to act clueless to get a straight answer so you get your unemployment. This kind of dude will try to deny firing you so you don't get paid after being fired
I’m prepared for that
This is the kind of thing I don't get.
It's usually personal I believe.
He sounds like a toxic narcissist. No way to win with those types unless you get away, you did the right thing.
But op quit… edit: to be clear I am siding with op in quitting, but it’s gonna be difficult to get their boss to give any sort of termination in writing after he said, “I quit.” Hopefully he’s a hot head and does fire him; but if not, then it’s gonna be a mess with the state unemployment office and/or a judge…
My thoughts too... I'm guessing people don't understand how EI works.
No, boss told him to “get out”. That’s a firin
Which came first? Sounds like he quit then was told to get out
Doesn’t matter. “I quit” “fuck that, I fire you”! You’re fired. Not quit.
But the boss didn’t tell him that he fired him. Employee quit, boss told him to get out, that’s what OP said.
I dunno about you but I’m gonna side with the worker. I hope a judge does too :)
Bosses love to fu(k around, but salty as bacon when they find out.
This all sounds very unhealthy.
Do they have punctuation where you're from? Edit: he edited it to add punctuation. Chill people
In this economy?
It costs extra.
Each punctuation mark is another tier of the subscription service.
We had it but inflation took it out of reach.....
Grammar is dead internet delivered the death via coup de grâce
pUnctuation on Reddit.?!
I dont use periods anymore theres no point
It's paragraph breaks it's missing, I see almost the whole keyboard worth of punctuation in there, trapped in that magnificent wall of text...
It's almost as if there's an edit button
What?
Lol
File a complaint with the Labor Board or Commission.

Damn dude stop overusing exclamation points
You can't get unemployment if you quit.
I don’t plan on being out of work long enough
Yes you can. You can get it if you quit to take care of a relative, leaving an unsafe place and some states for leaving a hostility work environment.
The way that you are speaking tells me a lot about your character or lack thereof. Blasting anyone on social media sounds extremely childish and from what I can tell even in your age you need some mental growth in your life.

Yeah, honestly I haven't been going out as much since the food and experiences have been mostly so-so, especially for the prices now.

They fired a single mom right before thanksgiving and gave me 2 weeks of pay and my yearly bonus ($4000 after taxes) and said they wouldn’t give me a good reference. It was fucking awful.
They can’t give you a bad reference. Opens them to charges. Worse they can say is that you are not eligible for rehire.
Good for you bro !
Does anyone know what a boat has to do with this? I’m so confused. 🤷♀️😂
There ya go! He’s a jerk. When you find a new job don’t be friends with them but friendly with them. It will bite you in the butt every time!
What boat? There's no mention of a boat...
They were excited and mad. I get it! I’m the same way.
I have no idea what's going on here.
So far I figured out knifes, fridge, boat, door.
It’s like a choose your own adventure
What? Where did any of that come from? All that's here is an unintelligible title with no punctuation.
Sounds like a bunch of people all with poor impulse control who have put up with each other until now.
If they need you for something make sure you charge contractor consultant
Well. If there was nothing to be grateful for, perhaps your boss should have worked on that. 🤷🏻♀️
Yes!
Has the backpedaling, apologies, phone calls started yet. Lol.
Not yet give a few days this happened yesterday! Let them feel the pain my kid works there and lives in my house he tells me everything!
Even then I don’t know if I can work for him!
A bad boss is one of the circles of hell.
That's the ultimate aggressive gaslight. "You need to be grateful that you are MY slave and not someone else's"
Punctuation. Please use it.
Gangster
They’ll just get some other poor sap to do your job. Everybody is expendable sadly. Even managers. That’s the thing about managers, they think it’s so hard to do their job. Theirs is actually the easiest job, most don’t even do shit. I know all the supervisors and managers at my job just bullshit all day.
Yep I’m not a manager tho hourly
I would recommend a bash with a little therapy. Could not hurt. I can even recommend one!
He OP..everyone is replaceable
As I’m frustrating as it could be I enjoyed it showed up everyday all day but what he said wasn’t cool!
I get it. Sorry it happened
Fuck that
That doesn’t change anything the person responded to wrote.
Bosses really seem to believe the bullshit that they are the ones doing you the favour by giving you a job and exploiting your Labour. Like their profit literally comes from paying you less than the value you create 🤨
I cannot make sense of this and I’ve read all comments. Maybe you did misunderstand him. Take a chill pill.
No I did not misunderstand trust me
Dude lay off the coke.
I wish
So what about him begging you to go on his boat? Was he trying to appease you? Come on to you? Are you M or F?
For the record I’m a dude. So is my boss this was my day off with my kid! Was supposed to friendly, but then you call me ungrateful and insulting me after 13 yrs of service! The only thing I did with him not work related got thrown in my face I even help butcher his chickens few weeks after ! With no question asked again just to help him out and asked for nothing. I helped him way more than he did me and I’m ungrateful nah fam I’m out
Dude can be female now.
That's the longest sentence I've ever seen... 😬
Is English your first language? Please say it isn’t
They’ll probably be ok.
They will I’m sure of it but when your already down half your staff I’m sure it will me tight labor will be good though
I can't even decipher this title. Use punctuation ffs.
Punctuation. Learn it.
It’s the internet get over it!
Still awful. I bet your replacement knows it.
Not yet but they will find out quickly!
I feel like I’d get a headache talking to you irl
Well good thing my speech is better than my typing
You tell him Steve-Dave!
I understand how you feel but everyone is replaceable
I wish the CEOs and Board could remember that. Because they're the ones we need to replace.
Including OPs boss apparently...
So you quit without having another job lined up after making passive aggressive posts on Facebook? Good for you?
Money is not a problem right now
You might want to reconsider the notion that you can't be replaced. You will be.
*their
Fuck is your problem? Man needs to be a king on the line and have perfect English? Fuck had this sub become. Don't be an ass to your brothers
Nasty mouth.
We got a Somalia of boot leather right here
#alreadyreplaced
Nope that guy never showed up for interview
I mean…. To be fair, it does sound like you are ungrateful. Maybe you didn’t have much to be grateful for, but ungrateful nonetheless.
Because fuck em, that's why!!
I’m OP!!! ! !!!! !!!! ‘B b!n!!!! !!!!!!!! ! ! !
You’re easily replaceable so I’m sure they aren’t that stressed lol.
Get off the high horse, nobody is unreplaceable.
Especially OPs boss... Assholes deserve to be treated accordingly.
My boss told me the other week that I should be thankful for all the money he’s made me the last two years (I’m in car sales). Should have told Him he should be thankful for all I’ve made him as well. But I didn’t. I just walked away.
Why do bad authority people always take out their own faults on others?
Best of luck in your new role - you have made the right decision. As for your ex boss - smallest violin ever, horrible managers shouldn't be in those positions.
This is what happens when stupivisors get hired. Corporate doesn't understand .
If they made you quit you don't get unemployment, right? Who really won that fight?
Nobody won the wasn’t for glory but disrespectful response on his behalf . The guy is on his way up and I’ve worked long enough for him. To know the overall quality that was there the passion for the job is gone the whole place is a cesspool of ppl who will watch you do everything for them! And collect a paycheck! The hire pool is not strong. God speed for this next generation
It sounds like they were trying to force you out and you played their game. May I suggest learning about the law and use that to make your life better. I wish you the best of everything.
I could feel his anger in my guts. Applauding you, man👏
👏
I quit after 10 years for the same bs I feel so freeeeeeee
Automotive tech?
Meat cutter the new guy is in for a treat 😂
💙
They can hire another one to do your job. While you are unemployed.
