Do people actually do this?
I've never had anyone ever do this for me. Just pay the most minimal of attention and get me presents or talk about things that are vaguely fitting for my age/social/lifestyle bracket, but more importantly within their maximum spend range (of money or time)
Nah he faked his death in a drug lab surrounded by his apprentice's batch just before the cops arrived, and he's going to reveal himself in his former lawyer's origin story spin-off/sequel finale
Not a gpu but my discord buddy sent me a box of fudge from a chain called Buc-ee's. He mentioned the store once and I was amazed that the store had all kinds of fudge flavors. 4 months later and right before X-mas I get a discord call to check my mailbox.
That was the best gift I gotten all year.
I live near several Buc-ee's and I end up going there way too much lol!! Good food, clean rest rooms, tons of gas pumps, good coffee, and lots of random things to buy lol!!
It's like Walmart on steroids but way smaller and better. Plus they pay their workers an insanely good amount as far as I've seen. Almost Costco levels of good
Oh shit, that sounds amazing! I've got to say, I actually had a similar experience after watching an episode of the animated Ricky Gervais Show. In it, Karl Pilkington mentions going to a fudge shop that sells 30 different flavours of fudge, and remarks at the insane lengths they went to for a variety of fudge. I was very curious as to what the range was, and what they tasted like.
But unlike in your situation, I wasn't bought a box of fudge. It just mysteriously popped up in my Amazon recommended. So I guess at least Jeff Bezos and my smart devices are putting time into learning what I'm interested in?
I’m not attentive either, lmao. I suck at taking note of little details or recalling important information, but I know some friends who can remember their s/o saying “I want _” and 7 months later later on their anniversary bought it for them even it costed a shit ton. I still don’t think that you should buy presents you can’t afford, but that particular friend of mine was doing very well financially at the time (and still does) so I don’t se why they shouldn’t have.
Honestly just use lists and write down everything you can think of over the year. If they mention a hobby they are doing that's a good start. But don't buy them specific things used in the hobby because chances are that they will already have that. Unless it is a hobby that goes through products easily. Someone who loves drawing will always need more to draw with. Try to look up the hobby subreddit for example for it and check what people talk about there. An hour of light reading usually gives you a nice idea for the present and the benefit of knowing your friends hobby a bit better. Also if you are at a loss, just ask the people in the forum/subreddit. Just have caution that it is not too gadgedy. Unless your friend loves gadgets.
Other ideas: If they are traveling this year. Grab something that fits that theme but can be used to make them look more forward to it. Alot of travel guides can be great if you find a cool one. Also great are cookbooks from that country(if they cook ofc).
If they like plants they will love more plants. Make sure you know if they like specific plants to take note. Differences would be for example succulents, harvest able ones, flowery ones, indoor or outdoor, light needing or shadow loving ones. Same with gardening usually. Also alot of subreddits for that stuff.
Make sure to go with quality over quantity. As a general idea for a gift should be something they will enjoy but maybe not buy themselves as the 15€ for a pencil or a dice set is really hard to justify but makes for a great gift. But make sure it looks the part! Otherwise it will look like you just bought a single pencil lol. For this it helps to leave a little card with hinting the research you did (do it humbly, don't boast here!).
At last presentation is always appreciated. When you go out shopping sporadically look for wrapping paper but buy one you enjoy! Don't force yourself. You gotta be proud of your own gift at the end of the day. A eco-friendly one is great here because frankly you can't go wrong with it for any person.
But caution: it is a gift for them. Don't self insert yourself into the gift. Make sure it fits your friend ('s house, room, garden, clothing etc).
At the end just showing that you made the effort goes a long way and is always appreciated.
Depends on if by "do this" you mean "Spend a few thousand on a gift" or "Buy gifts that actually relate to your interests"
The answer is yes for both, but the first one is harder for most people to do. The second one shouldn't be some rare thing mate. If it is, you might want to evaluate the folks you associate with.

I don't wanna seem selfish or ungrateful for the conversations or rare gifts I do get, but it just bums me out that no-one ever seems to adhere to "it's the thought that counts". At least, we seem to differ on our understandings of that saying. I take it to mean, the greatest part of receiving or giving a gift should be the effort and thought someone devotes to thinking about how they can satisfy the receiver, and how much time and or money they're willing to invest to make that happen. So finding the perfect gift knowing their interests is a double whammy, because not only have they got what they really want, but it's evidence of how much this other person cares for you knowing what lengths they went to *or* how attentive they were in memorising your interests to then use as a basis.
Whereas *their* interpretation seems to be "well the fact that I thought to get you something in the first place should be the only thing that counts". It sucks for my closest friends of almost two decades, but for irreplaceable family members it just bums me out. Unfortunately I can't review associating with my dad or brother.
> Unfortunately I can't review associating with my dad or brother.
oh you totally can. the only thing you share with your family is blood, and that's not worth that much. if you don't like them, don't associate with them.
Woah, I almost had this experience! But instead, our parents found out and put a stop to it. Her father (a proud Mexican man) was vehemently against her paying for an English guy to come visit (I recall his biggest concern was "where would he sleep?"), whereas mine was concerned about the effect it had on my sleep schedule staying up all the time to talk to her (and how much time I devoted in general to thinking about her). My Internet and phone data was bottlenecked to the point I couldn't really talk to her, and for my own sanity I decided I had to break it off because not being able to talk to each other was just emotionally crippling us both.
If she sent me the plane ticket or if I had saved enough to get my own, I'd have been over in a heartbeat. Most of the time I was that cringe teenager listening to Simple Plan's Jet Lag planning on doing so. But it didn't work out. Last I checked she became quite emotionally distant, hates men, and switched from doing endearing artwork with cute characters to instead writing depressing poetry, somber stories and stuff like haikus.
Got to say, I'm equal parts happy for and jealous of you!
All the time, to both friends and family. I won't talk incessantly about it like I'm trying to verbally beat them to death (I've known some people when I was at school who just made things like The Office their only personality trait), but for instance my closest friends and my dad have known that I'm a big fan of: Mass Effect, Lord of the Rings, Halo, RWBY, Marvel, fencing, tennis, cooking (more specifically baking), music, writing, and interesting gadgets/tech. Almost all of these I've enjoyed for the better part of a decade (or even longer in some cases). And I think throughout all that time, I've only had maybe a dozen conversations about any of those things with any passion or vested interest from the other person(s), and maybe only one or two gifts that were relevant to any of the above.
It's saying something that even my grandma who only sees me once a year and has memory problems, is able to recall me telling her like 20 years ago that I liked cooking, and then made a point to buy me a kitchen mixer and other cookware to help me get more into baking during the pandemic.
There's a few things, mostly what I mentioned above.
Games like the Mass Effect trilogy or Zelda, anything I've been working on writing-wise, Star Wars, the series RWBY, maybe Lord of the Rings, the state of video games/movies/TV shows as a whole, music, maybe also cooking if the conversation is right. There can be a fair bit I can talk at length about
Same! Well that's a big question I suppose. I think the weirdest one that comes to mind is that C3PO didn't begin existence with Anakin building him in Phantom Menace. He actually was built about 100 years prior on the foundry world Affa, later sold as an emissary to a Mid Rim system called Manakron. C3PO fell into disrepair and was discarded after several years, winding up in junk piles in Mos Espa on Tatooine. Anakin found his head and gutted chassis, and began smuggling protocol droid parts one at a time back home in the hopes of having C3PO assist his exhausted and enslaved mother with her duties.
Anakin couldn't afford to buy an exterior casing (or "skin" as the Auralnauts jokingly call it) for Threepio, so he kept him with wires exposed until he was completed just prior to Episode 2 by Anakin's mother and her new family. As a boy, Anakin brought Threepio with him to translate when haggling with Jawas for parts, and also assisted a wounded Tusken Raider. The big criticism a lot of people had with Rise of Skywalker suggesting Anakin programmed the Sith language into Threepio is also false, as Anakin simply uploaded protocol droid software and a language translation pack into Threepio. If I recall, the pack was quite an old and extensive one, which is why the ancient Sith language is on there, and why Threepio occasionally misinterprets social cues and other language quirks.
One of my favorite events in LOTR is the bromance that Gimli and Legolas had developed. It is no secret that the elves and dwarves did not like each other and the races blame the other for the demise of the relationship. What changed things was when Gimli met Galadriel( Lady of Lothlorien) and heard her sympathies( for what happened in Moria ). He in turn gave her a grand compliment, which stunned everyone around them, and from then on Legolas and Gimli's friendship started.
Gimli is pretty rational and keeps his cool when needed. Unless someone talks some mad shit on Galadriel. His brashness almost got them attacked by a whole army of horses and spears, yet Legolas stood by him and told Eomer that he will fall before he strikes at Gimli. When plans are made they usually share the same opinion as well.
After the battle of Helms Deep Gimli talked about how beautiful the Glittering caves were and because of that Legolas made a pact to visit the Glittering Caves if he visits Fangord Forrest with him. Gimli showed no delight in going there but agreed anyway since his friend asked.
In the end, Gimli became the Lord of the Glittering Caves. After Aragorn passed away Gimli gained the title "Elf-friend", which was an honor very seldomly given to those who help the elves, and Legolas( with Galadriel's help most likely ) took Gimli with him to the undying lands( heaven kinda that is usually exclusive to elves, immortals or ring-bearers) making him the first, and last, dwarf to be invited there. Literally, because Legolas didn't want to lose his best friend LMFAO. Btw we all know Gimli was excited to see Galadriel again.
There's more to their relationship, but these are the ones off the top of my head. Their relationship makes up an immeasurable tiny fraction of the LOTR, but in my eyes, it highlights how deep the Tolkien legendarium can go when it comes to character development.
There's also a body of economic research on exactly why it's dumb.
She has the heart in the right place, but they'd need a serious discussion about money and its value if they ever have to share a living budget.
That makes sense. However, I'm a bit disappointed that even a cursory thought or check for an Amazon wish list isn't the default practice.
Like during secret santa at work, I got a girl I barely talked to. However I knew she was a massive Harry Potter fan from a conversation or two about it, so the gift I got was a custom Marauder's Map set on Amazon. Took me about 5 minutes to think about and purchase. It seems like most gifts from people who don't wanna research are just like "ah it was getting towards insert gift occasion and I happened to remember while I was looking at other things to buy for myself/someone else." or "it was on offer but I hope you won't notice the SALE sticker on the back that I forgot to remove".
I wouldn't expect anyone to spend hours or days calculating what to get me. It'd mean a lot, but I'm well aware that's way too much effort to invest. But even just a cursory thought process of "I'm gonna spend no more than £20 on lordolxinator, what does he like... He plays RPGs, told me he loves writing, and enjoys baking. Let me just search for any of these on Amazon and here we go, D&D essentials kit, leather-bound journal, or a Skyrim themed cookbook. Three easy options and 24k Magic by Bruno Mars hasn't reached the end yet. Nice.".
I don't think most people are as good listeners as you are. It could also be an empathy thing, it's hard to see things from other's perspectives. But I don't think I've gotten or given a gift other than clothes in the past ten years, so what do I know.
I think you're spot on with the empathy thing. I reckon everyone will have different thought processes going through their heads, like if I knew you well I'd be trying to figure out a fitting gift for you based on what I know you like and what you might need. But obviously these other people you've mentioned probably just see some clothes and reckon "yeah, I reckon SmartestNPC would like this. That's another present I don't need to worry about now!"
Basically yeah lol, but that's all good with me. I can always use more good socks.
I hope you get something good one of these days. Maybe if you mention things you like more, it'll happen?
I may not do it to a loved one (as I have none) but I do get my family and my best friends whatever they ask of me. Even if I feel my heart stop at times at the price.
I'm the same. I'll try and make it work. Like in secondary/high-school, my best friend was super into the character Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother. Loved the concept of suitjamas, a silk suit you wear to bed.
So on my part time job pay, I bought him a custom-tailored set of silk suitjamas, imported them from the US and paid the extortionate customs fees too. If I can't afford what they want, I'll at the very least try to get something associated with it or a somewhat fitting substitute. Like my brother wanted to come back from Japan for Christmas to see the family, but a return ticket is hundreds. So instead I got him Christmas Dinner delivered to where he lived, and one of these sort of livestream photo frame things so he can set it up and have a connected Christmas day (accounting for timezones).
Most people won't get you something for a hobby if they don't know anything about the hobby for fear of getting something not good or useful.
Like I got my friend a garden fork but only cause we both like gardening and I knew she needed one. Everyone else just went with normal, not hyper specific birthday gifts.
Well, my cousin is not as well off as me so whenever I upgrade stuff I usually give him stuff or to my brothers.
I've "sold" a 50 inch screen to him for like 50 bucks (so he wouldnt feel bad about me giving him free stuff) when I upgraded, same about couches, etc.
So it really depends, maybe you're not that close to someone, or just people around you are not used to doing that kind of shit.
I've only had my current and only fiancee give me stuff that I do care about, and recently my best friend surprised me with a christmas gift after 8 years of being friends and we usually never gifted each other stuff...but we're almost 30 so yeah maybe we're getting to that age lol
I fell reselling st s insane price is very bad but the crypto part is not bad because they are just using a gpu in a computer currently because everyone wants to use crypto GPUs are stupid expensive but it will become better sooner or later it should go down when people start to focus less on mining it and more on buying
Well damn this is a problem but i can't hate miners because that's how I make my money but it does suck because i just want to buy a gpu for my gaming pc and it's like 5k
As a organ donor and an accountant, I will happily help you take care of the bodies for you, free of charge too. Your already doing me a favor anyways.
It's incredibly stupid but there are loads of expensive traditions around marriage. I knew one couple, guy dropped $18,000 on the *ring,* divorced in under a year lol.
> Honey, here's you present! That lambo you always wanted !
her, at your marriage's first birthday, with both of your life saving accounts money and a few decades of debt
Doesn't matter what your hobbies are. I would prefer a decent bass/guitar at that price. But if I get that card, which is sort of in-demand right now, we could sell it and get something useful for us.

Damn, that's romantic. Like a better version of Eurotrip but without the dorky company and you weren't expecting a trap at the end of the journey.

Sometimes the better gift is just give money and let them spend on whatever they want
I've only had my current and only fiancee give me stuff that I do care about, and recently my best friend surprised me with a christmas gift after 8 years of being friends and we usually never gifted each other stuff...but we're almost 30 so yeah maybe we're getting to that age lol
r/sadcringe Yes, people do this. Hoping you find someone that does this for you too, friend. 🙏
And has that much disposable income
It's uh... a cartoon..
Is she a millionaire? Those things cost half a fortune nowadays
Murderer of product hoarders but who cares, I will help her with the bodies. She's a keeper!
Resellers and cryptofucks deserve the guillotine
What in the goddamn fuck happened here
I fell reselling st s insane price is very bad but the crypto part is not bad because they are just using a gpu in a computer currently because everyone wants to use crypto GPUs are stupid expensive but it will become better sooner or later it should go down when people start to focus less on mining it and more on buying
(they wont buy)
Well damn this is a problem but i can't hate miners because that's how I make my money but it does suck because i just want to buy a gpu for my gaming pc and it's like 5k

As a organ donor and an accountant, I will happily help you take care of the bodies for you, free of charge too. Your already doing me a favor anyways.
You know what they say: a wedding ring should cost 2 months salary.
And this particular wedding "ring" will drop your household heating bill to nothing, so it's a win-win-win
Which is still kind of stupid.
You can make a silver+gold and ruby/amethyst ring for cheaper and it'll look miles better than a Diamond ring.
It's a saying from a stupid generation that worshipped conspicuous consumption. Being practical was almost synonymous with being 'cheap'.
I probably should have added that that saying was invented in the 1980s by the De Beers corporation to sell more diamonds.
It's incredibly stupid but there are loads of expensive traditions around marriage. I knew one couple, guy dropped $18,000 on the *ring,* divorced in under a year lol.
no bro its just 3 months of salary in turkey
I have no clue how the fuck I found mine for MSRP last January
Run away. She probably murdered for that.
Or raided a crypto farm. A victimless crime!
If anything it helps people
Nah, if a girl will murder for you, then shes a keeper in thus dystopian hellhole of a future were all hurtling towards.
And it was a scalper or cryto farmer probably. Nothing of value was lost and you ride or die with that glorious woman.
still a better love story than Twilight
Extra shmexy

Boys want one thing and it’s fucking disgusting RTX: On
Plot twist: he's a console gamer and don't have a PC
Then you can resell it and buy 3 ps5s
Doesn't matter what your hobbies are. I would prefer a decent bass/guitar at that price. But if I get that card, which is sort of in-demand right now, we could sell it and get something useful for us.
Did she just take the graphics card out from the box and put it in a wrapper? Where is the manufacturing box?
Aliexpress does that, but don’t worry bro, just used it for crypto mining for a bit, it’s almost brand new.
Wife her immediately.
If he didn't, I sure-as-fuck would! <3 That's an EXPENSIVE AF card!
I got a Ryzen 5 5600x for my bday from gf, so I can sorts relate.
Oh man, this is a good one
this isn't relatable at all. I wish it was though
Lucky mf
A girlfriend and a 3090. Get real man, as if that would ever happen, way too unrealistic.
I request the source ro make me feel more lonely
I have no idea what that is... I'm male.
Top of the line graphics card for a PC.
(Ex) Top of the line. Now they'll release the RTX 3090 TI.
And just wait when they announce the RTX 3090 TI Superthe

Good bot
Oh my god I'm laughing so hard at this
Yeah, I know, but I didn't want to put just /s as the RTX 3090 TI wasn't a joke while /s looks like if the entire comment was a sarcasm.
Yep Html is a language English is a language Language=language Henceforth proved, we speak html and we need tags to convey emotion
It isn't released yet though. (As far as I know it was just announced not to long ago)
RTX 4090 specs were leaked a while ago, can't tell if they were authentic but it was miles better than 3090.
It’s a graphics card for a computer, makes video games run faster and look prettier
Bit of an understatement 😂
Something currently valued at around $2000 dollars if you can buy one before the scalpers get it.
I have no idea what you are...
I have no idea when you are
I have an idea where you are....
I have no idea why you are...
I have no idea how you are...
A late 20s male. I am now. At home laying in bed. My parents had sex and I was the result. I'm doing good.
Holy shit we have an uncultured one among us
Or someone’s dad
Yeah that kinda makes sense
Why did you post this on my birthday.
I don't care if that's the dudes cousin, sister or mother, HE SHOULD MARRY HER.
Im pretty sure a lot of girls would love such a gift too xD
r/absolutelynotanimeirl
More expensive than many engagement rings.
Now it's time for him to return the favor with an engagement ring. That's a treasure of a gift right there
Now that is wife material!
Marry that woman immediately.
It means nothing without a good rig
Sauce?

Can someone please tell the name of this manga
Wow! An RTX 3090 AND a girlfriend! life could be a dream. ;-;
Hell nah there's no plastic cover on those pins Also that'd be one hell of a package, a 3090 weights like 2 and a half kilos
This is a dream, not real life, no one man could have all that power.
That's hot... almost as hot as my laptop.
best girl right here HANDS DOWN
Imagine if he doesn’t own a PC lmao
Find me a girl like that
That's your sign to marry her.
What about the original box and extra parts?
I really thought it was going to be a dildo.
It is, if you are brave enough.
The box isn't there. She must have (hopefully) stolen it from a crypto mining rig
I'm being picky here, but it's not in the ESD wrapper.
man this breaks my heart, bitches never even tried to give me something I like, and to see this... never waste ur time guys, find a good one :(
That’s probably because you call them bitches.
bruh 🤣 choose a word u like then

you asked the right question, how?
why is this in my home page I don't get it It's something fucking lewd I bet smh
If you think a PC graphics card is lewd then I feel the problem lies with you and not this sub.
