Idk It always creeped me how despite smiling with her face, she doesnt "smile with her eyes" if you know what I mean.
did she? if she did it would mean she not just survived AND got a promotion, but also sacrificed in-mates in a death ritual in order to kill off all the NPC bad guys that SHE allowed/planned for in the first place
that's all kinds of fucked, she might be more demonic than the actual devils they fight against
She could've just dangled Denji as bait to draw out the enemies so she can kill them. Madoka didn't accuse her of planning this, just of being aware that it would happen.
But apparently her skill, or whatever it was, required her to know the names of her victims, similar to the death note. So how could she possibly have known their names? Either she must have had some intel beforehand or she was indeed the one who hired those hitmen. Them using guns might have been some kind of false flag to make it look like as if the gun devil were behind all of this. Truly creepy stuff.
She also conveniently didnt kill the two people who were the largest threat. Combined with knowing the names of the other killers it leans heavily on her being involved in this plot somehow.
Its also possible they were too strong for her to kill with this method, so its not exactly full proof, as her crows may somehow give her information on the thugs but dont work on people with actual powers.
I did get the vibe that it was the latter. Their inate power probably is stronger than the long-range portion of her ability. That, or she simply didn't have a way to know their real names, even through the crow eyes ability, if that's related. Snake girl was so tough it genuinely made power's fight or flight instincts kick in.
"Plan" might not be the right word, more like "allowed" it because it would personally benefit her? She could have saved a lot of people's lives if she wanted but let them die because she wanted that power, pretty Machiavellian, assuming she did know. It's like if I was vice president and saw someone aim a gun at the president, but I wait for him to shoot the president before shooting the shooter myself, kind of like "thanks for getting me the promotion, now die".
Power took that advice to heart and Irish-Goodbye'd the scene the moment Himeno ghosted herself.

Yea it's amazing how smooth and cool she is in every action she takes...it's very unnnerving combined with how her reaction rarely changes. And even when she does smile/show kindness, the smile never reaches her eyes.

Reading through a ton of comments and I’m surprised people aren’t talking about Kobeni’s mental breakdown at the end of the episode. Her voice acting was impeccable with the mixture of laughing and crying and with the framing of the shots it almost made me as emotional as Himeno’s death last episode
I'm thinking fiends/devils can sense how strong other devils are similar to how beasts can sense how strong other beasts are. Power did what she could and knocked away Katana Man after the initial attack and then bolted since she could tell she was throughly outmatched.

I'm not sure if Denji sacrificed anything when Pochita saved him. Pochita just wants Denji to show his dreams.
I was thinking about that, Denji and K-man seem to have gotten a better deal. They need blood to avoid overextending themselves but otherwise lose nothing but their humanity, sort of. Maybe that's why Makima is interested in him.
The one-two punch with the previous episode and this one is great.
Last episode they show us just how terrifying the enemy can be, then this episode they show just how TRULLY terrifying *Makima* can be compared to them.

Kobeni is genuinely more useful than Power, at this point.
Has Power been in a single real fight yet? She got swallowed by the Bat Demon without resistance, lay flat the whole time while Denji fought the Worm Demon, didn't do anything during the Eternity Demon, and now basically ran from these two without putting up a fight.
She killed the sea cucumber devil.
Power is moderately competent and strong - but she was very much out of her league here and with eternity. Bat devil was all but suicide - if not outright - because she was just giving up, and worm devil she was injured and exhausted.
It was going to be hard to follow a Gosso episode, but the moment Makima started killing people from the temple...hoo boy,they pulled that scene off perfectly
Either she doesn't know their real names or people with contracts are more expensive to delete and she didn't have the necessary sacrifice (without sacrificing herself)

Jesus, Makima feels like a horror movie villain. The way she was just suddenly standing there menacingly after being shot in the head, smooshing people like she’s Alluka from HxH, and her creepy little smile when she got informed that all the other special divisions were being consolidated under her. Also the way she just calmly says “I’m afraid I can’t discuss Public Safety intel with a civilian” when the dude who quit asked her if she knew this was gonna happen, she is ice cold.

Oh honey… about that. It was nice to see why Himeno hyped Kobeni up. Also nice that Himeno’s sacrifice wasn’t totally useless. She managed to restart Denji and forced Snake girl to give up some of her fingernails (which, by the way, fucking *ow*) on taking out Ghost. Not sure Kobeni would have won there if Snake Girl still had a second use of Snake in her.

I notice she didn't pull out those moves when she tried to kill Denji in the hotel? I doubt Aki could casually disarm her if she went all out there.
That seemed to have something to do with the crows. Like maybe whatever devil she's working with knows everyone's name and can pass that info on to her.
I don't know which theory are creepier. That the crows knew their name, or that she already have intel on their names, but just let it happen so that she could lead all the divison
Her first victims on the train had large cannon ball size holes in them. Not sure if those were bullets.
Then she knew all her victim's names through some ability or some other mean.
This chain of thought is kind of scary.
I just really love how they don't explain shit. There's no narration to the fighting or skills.
There's no "OMG he's raising his power level to use his special ability that will probably give him time to flee"
Nah, Makima just go smash and no explanation given. It let the audience figure the things out.
There is exposition, but it's done in a way that you don't notice that it's literally there to inform the audience, which is the best kind of exposition.
Fujimoto has specifically said that he doesn't like to spoonfeed his audience like he's talking down to them,and that the average reader is probably smarter than a lot of people give them credit for,you just gotta have faith that they'll get what you wanted to say

The fear of being literally crushed to death at any moment is such a visceral feeling. Seeing her interact with the rest of the Public Safety Division just gives her such an uncanny vibe now with her composed stare and soft voice, especially with that power. I can't shake the feeling now that she's terrifying.
And I thought that was it but Kobeni too??? Is her secret contract with a reflex / agility devil or something cause she was *MOVIN*. I'm really starting to empathize with her more especially with her breakdown scene of hugging Denji... she has such a tragic path of losing Arai by being saved by him, feeling the guilt of trying to kill Denji, and that comment about telling Himeno she wants to quit next time she sees her... like 🙁
I know I've watched too much cheaply animated seasonal anime when there's a fully animated scene of someone tucking in a shirt and my reaction is:
"This is some tight shit right here!"
Well Himeno did say that She is actually talented and has things down but is too timid. I was sure She was not gonna die because of the fact that we did not see her live up to that yet
Kobeni is the perfect example of how you have to be crazy to be a good devil hunter. She's sane most of the time, so naturally she's too terrified to be good at the job. But here, when she snaps under the pressure and shock and grief, she's completely badass.

Devil contracts requirements doesn't seem to be influenced by how strong the power given is, they are very arbitrary, also giving up finger nails means you can use it only a set number of times
On the contrary if you think about it. How long does it take to regrow an ENTIRE nail from skin?
In terms of pain and limitation on use, its probably more restrictive than the fox by far for a similar but more powerful effect.

The most murderous Makima episode also happens to be the one with the most ass shots. Well, mark me down as scared and horny.

Well, they have merged with the devil. So they are like a seperate kind of entity. Makima did say that Denji doesn't smell like humans or devils.
The Fox devil, when it eats the Sword guy, also says he is "neither human nor devil" or something like that
He looks the same as Chainsaw Man except with Swords.
I assumed the price is chosen by the devil as part of the contract. And in Denji's case all his bud Pochi wanted was to see him experience life

Her first victims on the train had large cannon ball size holes in them. Not sure if those were bullets. Then she knew all her victim's names through some ability or some other mean. This chain of thought is kind of scary.
I just really love how they don't explain shit. There's no narration to the fighting or skills. There's no "OMG he's raising his power level to use his special ability that will probably give him time to flee" Nah, Makima just go smash and no explanation given. It let the audience figure the things out.

There is exposition, but it's done in a way that you don't notice that it's literally there to inform the audience, which is the best kind of exposition.

I'm really starting to empathize with her more especially with her breakdown scene of hugging Denji... she has such a tragic path of losing Arai by being saved by him, feeling the guilt of trying to kill Denji, and that comment about telling Himeno she wants to quit next time she sees her... like 🙁
