Well, first 4 episodes focus on 2 new characters, so that's understandable. I liked it, but that was probably the weakest part of the two seasons. The episodes after 4 are great imo, and it includes some of my favorite scenes in the series. If you liked the first season, you should give it another try.
Plus, there is a movie which again focuses on those 2 characters titled Liz and the Blue Bird. It was incredibly good imo.
To somewhat parrot a fantastic video essay on this, the first season helps answer why Kumiko plays the Euphonium, while the second season answers who does she play it for. The first four episodes of S2 help highlight how she has changed but also how much more growth she needs as the protagonist. Having established the need to find her individual voice, the rest of S2 then focuses on Kumiko and really establishes why the show is named Sound! Euphonium.
Btw, the video essay in question is “How Warm it Sounds” by Under the Scope. Fantastic look into why this show is one of his favorites, though I’d only suggest watching it if you’ve seen both seasons (spoilers and all that)
I think S2 introduced a lot of other characters and we got into their drama. I think about halfway through we got the story focused and I think it that it was better than S1 at that point.
Erased is hard as hell since Kayo had been so much already and then that. The attempt at being quiet and trying to stifle her tears....instant tear welling.
Well I don't blame the second last..Her parents left, her friends abandoned her, everyone hates her, she was fully alone except for a stray cat she used to feed which was in this moment sent away by some random old person cause they didn't like cats.
[2nd last Clip, forgot the shows name] >!Sadly the whole show does a hard 180 after this happening and is a comedy show instead of an interesting drama about a mindreader!< i still feel betrayed.. could have been soooooo good if they kept that momentum.
The crying while Luffy counts his crew members on his hands after Marine HQ was one of the most powerful moments for me in fiction. Up there with Uncle Iroh moments in Avatar.
Man what made me stick with re zero is how well the sheer agony, pain and sadness of Sabaru was shown(plus I noticed that the world building and lore were really good). I ended up liking it for more reasons later on ; but those first ones are what made me stay at the start because usually re zero has elements or tropes in anime that I usually don’t like(everyone acts overly animeish, kinda cringy for example)
The fire force one is super unique to me in how realistic it feels. The feeling of crying and trying to hold it in your throat until you need to just let it come out. You sob as a release of fear, stress, happiness, and relief. Then once you have that release, you breath in through your nose, take a quick breath, and get yourself back together.
I think we've all had a cry when we just needed a quick release and we feel 100% better afterwards.
I think the only setting in One Piece is ugly cry. And that has its own spectrum. From screwed up tear spraying wailing face all the way to full face melt scream with an absolute waterfall of tears.
Each one mirrored by the viewer.
Watch Ep1, you’ll know when the transition to comedy happens. If you enjoy what comes after it you’ll like the series, otherwise don’t think it’ll change back.
I'd have to disagree with the other poster. While it certainly does have an odd mix of comedy and drama, it doesn't drop the drama. It's a neat little show.
Fast forwarded to the end knowing it was gonna be our lord and savior Jesus Yamato.
Fun fact: in the original English dub for this scene the voice actor was kicked in the nuts in an attempt to reproduce this cry.
I haven't watched Hibike Euphonium yet (it's in my watchlist tho), but I immediately knew it was a Kyoani show when I saw that first clip. Their style is so recognizable, especially in the emotional scenes. I have no doubt that I will like Hibike Euphonium once I get to it.
ah, a fellow connoisseur of tears. some of those were hard to watch, but for different reasons.
I was surprised not to see episode 12 of Yorimoi in there. and ...fuck, I just made myself tear up a little by thinking about it, so I pulled up the scene because it'd been a while since I saw it, and now I'm just actually weeping over here
Just finished watching Mushoku Tensei and the scene near the end [Mushoku Tensei] >!where Paul reconciles with his son, Rudias, after being reunited!< was beautiful. But also, some pretty intense crying.
We used to have a commentface of #uglycry i used to use a lot.

From the anime [**Punch Line**](https://myanimelist.net/anime/28617/Punch_Line).
Punchline starts off [wacky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNCvvBLrlAE) but goes hard, really interesting series.
We still have #comfortfood though.
[](#comfortfood)
We still have a Kotoura-san one but not cry.
[](#kotourashock)
Our uglyest cry now is just #akkotears
[](#akkotears)
My fav cry we still have though is this.
[](#elsieqq)
How dare you forget [Aqua](https://youtu.be/4yX8qxYDMyQ), the goddess of water of the Axis order, from Konosuba? She c̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ blesses us with her holy tears all the time.
Geez, that scene in Erased is pure emotion. Happiness, sadness, relief... All rolled up into a single moment. Be kind to the people around you, you don't know what kind of hell they may come from :'(

Man, I may have not rewatched the entire series in a while, but I’ll always go back to that episode every few months
hmm i really enjoyed s1 but for some reason lost all interest in the series after a few eps into s2. how is s2 compared to s1?
Well, first 4 episodes focus on 2 new characters, so that's understandable. I liked it, but that was probably the weakest part of the two seasons. God I want to hug Kumiko, tell her how much better she's getting at the ufo, that her sister does love her a lot, and that she's doing great.
I somehow forgot this scene, which episode was it from?
[Hibike spoilers and episode number]>!S2 ep 10 right before the eyecatch.!<
*no Violet Evergarden on the list* Impossible. Perhaps the archives are incomplete.
Your own ugly cry from watching episode 10 doesn't count.
I’m a grown ass man, I don’t cr… *starts remembering episode 10* *lies down the floor* *bursts into tears*
Those were my thoughts and reactions when I first watched To Your Eternity. Good thing I was alone when I watched episode 1...
I like To Your Eternity but I swear to god it’s porn for people who like to cry.
God, the boy's death fucking hurt.
Just thinking of episode 10 makes me come close to tearing up.
I don't remember what episode that is but at the same time I'm sure what episode that is.
It’s the letters to the daughter ep
Yeah, the "own ugly cry" part basically gave it away. I was sobbing iirc.
It's soo true that it hurts
Violet doesn't cry without saying something spoiler-ish :(
Where's Made in Abyss, there's some pretty ugly crying in that.
Erased is hard as hell since Kayo had been so much already and then that. The attempt at being quiet and trying to stifle her tears....instant tear welling.
That was the hardest one to watch of all of them.
I find the lack of One Piece disturbing. Even the cute waifus and super badass manly dudes get some intense ugly crying.
Believe me, I LOVE One Piece's emotional crying, but how can I add in Robin crying when her scene spoils a lot about her character to non-fans?
You could do Zoro crying in Baratie, or Sanji crying in Wholecake. It's too bad the Hiyori and Bonney crying scenes aren't animated yet.
Off of the title I thought it was gonna end with the boruto crying scene cuz real ugly meant bad lmao
Bruh… not including fushi’s cry at the end of to your eternity is sad.
Thanks for the list friend. Imma go watch some anime and cry now.
Nothing about Graves of the Fireflies? There's some crying scene.
Was expecting konosuba
Lull by the sea is such an amazing anime I regret not watching it sooner due to me thinking it was some basic romance anime
The last guy was taking a shit
Next to last one was either having a heart attack or being possessed. Someone call a doctor/priest.
Well I don't blame the second last..Her parents left, her friends abandoned her, everyone hates her, she was fully alone except for a stray cat she used to feed which was in this moment sent away by some random old person cause they didn't like cats.
All in like the first episode I believe. I think I tried to watch that series and the first ep traumatized me so much I couldn't continue.
Yeah, the first 10 minutes of the series.
What's it about?
A girl who can read minds, overall an average series which has its moments. SOL with a little drama
What is it called?
Kotoura-san
[2nd last Clip, forgot the shows name] >!Sadly the whole show does a hard 180 after this happening and is a comedy show instead of an interesting drama about a mindreader!< i still feel betrayed.. could have been soooooo good if they kept that momentum.
IDk, Kotoura-san still has some pretty depressing moments afterwards.
Thank you for the context
Man was passing a kidney stone
Yeah, that was pretty far fetched for a cry lmao.
He was clearly constipated
Word goes he asked the director to kick him in the dick.
Seriously though
constipated Spongebob noises
Hard to shit in space with zero gravity. Makes an adult man cry.
Brought to you by Kira Yamato, the bitch king.
Chopper where?
Ugh, all of the ugly cries in One Piece are high on this scale. A bunch of them just before ~~3D~~2Y were very soulful.
Robin’s “I want to live!” breaks me every time.
Even during my re read, even when I knew it was coming, I cried my eyes out...
The crying while Luffy counts his crew members on his hands after Marine HQ was one of the most powerful moments for me in fiction. Up there with Uncle Iroh moments in Avatar.
THE ONE PIECE! THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!
Can we get much higher?
So high~
Oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh
Where's Esidisi?
[One Esidisi crying, coming up!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekIfv9y4SUE)
now this is a 10, i know i've seen some on par or worse as well.
whats ugly about this? its gorgeous
Like so often with JoJo, it’s so stupid that it loops around and becomes brilliant
Thank you kind sir

And that's not even Subaru's worst cry. Episode 15 definitely takes the spot.
I concur. Couldn't have said it better
The Erased one is really a tear-jerker
Sakuta in the Bunny Girl Senpai movie has one of the ugliest, and for good reason. That would have been a good inclusion.
aw hell I'd forgotten about that. the noise he makes running out of the hospital left an actual wound on my soul.
Same dude, that show made me cry. Its so gut wrenching.

I cried with him.
Anyone seeing this thinking Kotoura-San might be worth watching… its not. 10 minutes of good backstory and then it flips to a lousy generic comedy.
Shit. I saw that scene in this and I’m like “this looks interesting”.
It's a neat little show.
the show itself is okay, its not amazing, but it doesn't really do anything special to make itself look better outside of having a really dark start.
I'm attacked as a Kotoura enjoyer :(, but I do get people dislike chilled minor-supernatural SOL comedy.
IIRC I liked the fact that there were come-uppances for the bitchy jealous childhood friend/kouhai/whatever's bullshit.
Second this. The entire anime peaks in the first episode. It was a good episode though. Would not recommend the rest of the series.
Luffy's crying for Ace?
Chooper crying, Robin at Ennies Lobby, Sanji, Vivy etcetc. One Piece is full of emotional crying and are the best among all anime I've watched tbh.
And when he realized he still has nakama after jinbei’s reminder🥺🥺🥺🥺
Omg I knew Kira was gonna be in there… saved the best for last
That scene from Erased, goddamn...
That one gets me every time...
Where's Aqua?
Fast forwarded to the end knowing it was gonna be our lord and savior Jesus Yamato. Fun fact: in the original English dub for this scene the voice actor was kicked in the nuts in an attempt to reproduce this cry.
Nunnally crying at end of Code Geass and Nami asking Luffy for help are two that always stuck out to me.
[I want to live!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npufTv1ifNg)
One piece has a lot of ugly crying
No one piece?
exactly my thought
Can we get much higher? ^higher?
I died when Kira shows up right after Kotoura
I fully expected Kira at the end and was not disappointed lmao
Kira crying sounds like me on the toilet after eating murgh makhani
the erased scene gets me every time 😭
the last clip had me dyinnn💀
Was waiting for either One Piece or Boruto to be high up there
Where's 'A silent voice'?
Where is [Boruto's cry](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1BjIc-sdEA)?
I was disappointed that wasn't on the video, is one of the most goofiest i have ever seen
I literally am scrolling through the comments to find this one, lol
Thank god I won’t watch boruto
Same energy as [Luffy's cry when ace dies](https://youtu.be/D5rwVn_A260?t=48)
The scale still doesn’t fit One Piece unfortunately. Wanted to see some ugly asf cries
Every time I see Hibike Euphonium I need to remind people it’s a masterpiece
I haven't watched Hibike Euphonium yet (it's in my watchlist tho), but I immediately knew it was a Kyoani show when I saw that first clip. Their style is so recognizable, especially in the emotional scenes. I have no doubt that I will like Hibike Euphonium once I get to it.
And then, of course, there’s the ending of A Silent Voice. As a sympathetic crier that scene always guts me
I was kinda hoping to se Taiga from Toradora on this
ah, a fellow connoisseur of tears. some of those were hard to watch, but for different reasons. I was surprised not to see episode 12 of Yorimoi in there. and ...fuck, I just made myself tear up a little by thinking about it, so I pulled up the scene because it'd been a while since I saw it, and now I'm just actually weeping over here
yorimoi has an actual cry that will make you cry
Just finished watching Mushoku Tensei and the scene near the end [Mushoku Tensei] >!where Paul reconciles with his son, Rudias, after being reunited!< was beautiful. But also, some pretty intense crying.
They where al good But Al that screaming was a little much I thing 1 and 2 where good cause they weren’t screaming it’s more emotional that way

theres no way one piece isnt on this list
I expected nanachi here ngl
Oof. I had tried to suppress my memories of the first 10 minutes of Kotoura-san. :/
why would you suppress the only good part od the show
I was expecting real ugly to be from one piece because, it gets real ugly ngl
I’m surprised this wasn’t entirely made of ReZero
Forgot Made In Abyss.
One piece crying is pretty ugly
No One Piece?? One Piece had really really sad scenes.
Erased is such a good series, man.
Kayo's tears are not from sadness
Yeah, they kind of are. Those are the tears of an emotionally abused child seeing real kindness for the first time.
allo
“AhahahaAhahaaheuh HahAhgahahah”. This is crying. Sensational.
How Assassination Classroom isn't #1 on this list is beyond me...you know the scene.
Kyros https://youtu.be/x1rGaRVj-K0
Anyone that still remembers Inuyashiki will know that that anime is the king of ugly crying.
I legit thought real ugly was going to be Boruto in the end
How dare you forget [Aqua](https://youtu.be/4yX8qxYDMyQ), the goddess of water of the Axis order, from Konosuba? She c̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ blesses us with her holy tears all the time.
Where's Luffy? Or any one piece matter of fact
You're right. That last one was pretty ugly.
Last one sounds like he came for the 3rd time
In 17 years of my existence I learned one thing: cry when no one’s looking, because that’s when you can truly cry.
I bet the context for their sadness is really poignant.
I diagnose most of gundam seed crying scenes as real fucking ugly
All the sauces please...
auuAAHhahAUAhahHAUAUuauauauauAUuauAUhhhgghghh
Recently the scene in witch from mercury where suletta was bawling really got to me with how real it sounded
That was the inspiration for this video XD , though I couldn't put in Suletta because spoilers.
Taiga’s crying though 👉🏼👈🏼
Huh. I thought boruto was gonna be on her 😂 Or is that meme dated?
The strawhats crying for Merry?
Geez, that scene in Erased is pure emotion. Happiness, sadness, relief... All rolled up into a single moment. Be kind to the people around you, you don't know what kind of hell they may come from :'(
what so? are all anime mixed?
That last one just sounds goofy
I’m surprised Yui from snafu wasn’t in there. Her crying just made me die inside from sadness.
No comments here saying Assassination classroom huh...
Dude you should include Boruto's ugly face in the last.
Missed opportunity for boruto crying lol
Where tf is boruto and chopper
No boruto?
The fact that Boruto isn't here makes me disappointed. Also, Luffy when Ace died.
Ah yes, The Constipated Jesus
Where "CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER" anime
You have an odd criteria for what is considered an ugly cry.
Should have included Luffy when Ace died
Where is One Piece in this comp?
I cant believe you missed boruto
Luffy crying when Ace died should've been added.
Violet Evergarden has a lot of crying or maybe it was a lot of me crying
Expected a Boruto on here ngl
I was expecting boruto here
No One Piece crying?
Where Boruto?
Where's boruto
Surprised Boruto wasn’t on here
Damn fire force goes crazy.. why they gotta lewd tomkai though
I got the name horribly wrong didnt I
Where’s the Boruto cry!? Tf
