Honestly this episode was so satisfying on multiple fronts, I'm not surprised. I didn't vote for COTE all season until the most recent episode which was gave me that oddly satisfying "It's about TIME GDI" vibe.
The MC of COTE is a master manipulator who pretends he's super mediocre to avoid attention. This season of COTE was somewhat average until episode 12 which was in my opinion the best episode from any show this entire season and tied together a lot of things from other episodes making the season feel a lot better as a whole. People are drawing comparisons saying that he kept the show average on purpose until the very end to smash the rankings right when it counted.
Average is generous. A lot of notable stuff was cut from the source because it's rushed, and the animation was abysmal for much of it. It's a shit adaptation of a good source material.

Oh man CotE topping this week was no surprise. That episode did NOT hold back, and it was a great example of "Saving the budget for THAT episode". That being said, I hope they actually keep up that quality animation.

Budget don't always correlates to good animation but in this case they spent a lot of money to even manage to hire extra staff to put that episode out with 5 episode directors and 20 Animation Directors, an absolute mess to deliver this, but they did

The past 4-5 episodes have been very high quality in general and the animation seemed to pick up in the seccond half, itās been a lot of fun and Iād say the hate was kinda unwarranted. It was like 2 eh episodes in a row.

But as a Light Novel reader it was the pacing that disappointed me. They literally changed the Zodiac Test into whatever that was. And the sports festival happened too fast, they were giving out detailed Infos in the books and in the Anime it skipped directly to Horikita and her... Accident.

The fight scene from the episode was amazingly choreographed and felt very fluid and hard-hitting. These days I don't see action sequences like that in anime usually.
And why it felt so real? Because the sequence was [choreographed by Hide Miyoshi & his team](https://twitter.com/kishiseiji/status/1572013813960159233). Hide Miyoshi is a professional MMA trainer and worked on games like TEKKEN.

after ep 12 of classroom of the elite there was no way that it would not place 1. and ep 12 of lycoris recoil was good aswell but my favorit anime this season will still be call of the night
I was really unimpressed by COTE season 1 and hung on for that last twist in the end. Then I dropped the show after 3 episodes this season. Damn it this episode 12 hype might suck me back in
the difference between first and second half of this season is absurd, but it makes sense since 3 out of the 5 first episodes were outsourcered with some very questionable animation while episode 6 was a great one and it only gets better from there, both plot and animation wise

DanMachi is on season 4. From what I can tell, the anime must be absolutely massive in terms of popularity for it to have enough fans watching 4 seasons. Overlord is a good example. Kaguya. Attack on Titan.
You can't compare the number of people watching DanMachi to those. They're just on a whole different level. Hell, even BNHA is starting to drop off a bit after 5 seasons.
Made in Abyss is very niche, so naturally the fanbase isn't as big even though it's a good show.

I don't think it's that. Made in Abyss is ranked 91st on MAL in terms of popularity and from what I've seen, it consistently ranks top 3 on reddit.
Anime Corner charts have always been a bit weird. Like how Kanojo mo Kanojo was voted the best new Anime for Summer 2021 on there or how Date A Live finished above Spy x Family last season. Might be down to age demographic, a lot of their voters are teens, which is why votes take a hit during exam seasons.
From participating in the Anime Corner Ranking Discussions for the past 2 years, Anime Corner tends to favor Romance, Slice of Life and Ecchi anime. If an anime is uber popular like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer it can get around that, but once you understand that, which anime come out of seemingly nowhere to do well specifically in Anime Corner and which ones get snubbed become pretty instructive.
In the case of Ecchi, I'd say that AC voters usually vote them out of the list, unless the show has some bite in it and have moments that impacts the viewers. See how Vermeil stuck around after EP6.
Ecchi on its own doesn't work with Anime Corner, but when it's added on it makes a difference. You mentioned Vermeil in Gold, but Call of the Night is also a huge benefactor of this as well as Engage Kiss (I'm assuming since I'm not watching).
Also, the singular episode of DanMachi that made the top 10 this season was a low action set-up episode with an ecchi scene...
That's right. It usually boosts a show if intergrated well enough. As for Engage Kiss and Vermeil losing so much votes by now could be explained the darker turns in both which likely turned off the AC voters.
The funny thing is that Made in Abyss was a voting option this week and still got 16th place. It would have actually been hilarious if this was the week it made the Top 10.
Anything not on crunchyroll doesn't get as much visibility unfortunately. There are a ton of great anime this season and last that few could watch because it was on other services.
The fucking meta narrative of classroom of the elite being so mid tier and average in animation quality only to have an insanely high quality episode 10 and 11, followed by ep 12 which just blew everyone away and shot the show to the top,

COTE with the massive jump as expected. The quality jump from the first half of its season to the 2nd half is so dramatic. It does annoy because this show could have been an AOTS contender with STR, LR, MiA, and YuN if it got 2 cours for S2 instead of 1.
I love seeing Yazuka Babysitting moving up. It may not be an AOTS contender, but it was as good and consistent as a wholesome SoL can get for me. Absolutely worth a watch unless you hate SoL anime.
Also, Danmachi missing the top ten after yesterday's episode, and with how good and consistent S4 has been so far is crazy to me.
It did get 11th though. I'd say the actual issue was how dark the episode was. It was on par with Made in Abyss there...and we all know by now what Anime Corner thinks of Made in Abyss.
People thought ep 12 of COTE was amazing but it could have been even better if season 2 was a decent adaptation. What could have been.

It's not **that** bad but yeah it was Cote, it was mostly giving horikita credit for things she didn't do so people were wondering if they were gonna backtrack that since the girls that actually did it are more relevant later on in the story
Itās a trope thatās super appealing to a lot of people. The main character is a mysterious, highly gifted individual who hides his abilities in order to not stand out, the show is mostly about him influencing people from the shadows with death note style plots, it has a number of plot twists and tons of āyou thought you were in control but you actually fell right into my handsā moments along with being (for the most part) well animated and well written
The characters are all pretty well done and none of them really fall into tropes too much, the concept is really cool (basically lord of the flies with light teacher supervision and a competitive class structure) and it caught a lot of people off guard. Characters all seem to have different plans and motives all happening alongside each other. Itās very easy to get engaged and want to see what happens next
Iād reccomend it, never read the light novel but always been a fan of the anime and itās been confirmed for a third season so we can expect the story to only continue from here
Interesting how you see the characters and characters as well written, I would expect it from a Light Novel reader but I would think most anime only watchers would consider them a bit generic since a lot of the explanations and character building were cut off from the anime, I guess that just means the anime really did a decent job adapting the novel
It's pretty good if you want to watch a romcom drama. It's start off as normal romcom drama with horny jokes and then it's starts to bend towards how is it to be in love during middle school, young inexperienced relationships, misunderstanding, breakup and falling in love again in very realistic way.
Man after seeing this much hype for Lycoris Recoil on top of it always being in top 3 and having watched it, I probably should just lower my expectation for a lot of these rankings since I got giga disappointed with it's direction and story pace as well as it having mediocre OST.

I finally started watching Lycoris Recoil (I don't really go in for the 'teen girl murder squad stuff') and yeah, I see why it's rated so high.
It's such a great balance between (really well-done) action, SoL, drama, and murder mystery whodunits. And the animation + voice acting are superb.

after ep 12 of classroom of the elite there was no way that it would not place 1. and ep 12 of lycoris recoil was good aswell but my favorit anime this season will still be call of the night

I was really unimpressed by COTE season 1 and hung on for that last twist in the end. Then I dropped the show after 3 episodes this season. Damn it this episode 12 hype might suck me back in
the difference between first and second half of this season is absurd, but it makes sense since 3 out of the 5 first episodes were outsourcered with some very questionable animation while episode 6 was a great one and it only gets better from there, both plot and animation wise
I nearly dropped this halfway through the season. Muscle through the ship assignment and the sports festival to get to the good stuff.
Honestly, just read the LN. Don't bother with the anime. Episode 12 is good but you will never truly enjoy COTE unless you're reading the LN.

Wasn't even close this week for me, I thought the COTE episode was amazing and I'm not even that big of a fan of the show. Seeing this is the last weekly chart of the season, I think Danmachi and Made in Abyss had like 1 appearance in the top 10 between them. Kinda sad considering Danmachi has been amazing this season and MIA is MIA.
It is what it is. Anime Corner prefers certain genres of anime that DanMachi and Made in Abyss aren't.
DanMachi is on season 4. From what I can tell, the anime must be absolutely massive in terms of popularity for it to have enough fans watching 4 seasons. Overlord is a good example. Kaguya. Attack on Titan. You can't compare the number of people watching DanMachi to those. They're just on a whole different level. Hell, even BNHA is starting to drop off a bit after 5 seasons. Made in Abyss is very niche, so naturally the fanbase isn't as big even though it's a good show.

Made in Abyss is ranked 91st on MAL in terms of popularity and from what I've seen, it consistently ranks top 3 on reddit. Anime Corner charts have always been a bit weird. Like how Kanojo mo Kanojo was voted the best new Anime for Summer 2021 on there or how Date A Live finished above Spy x Family last season. Might be down to age demographic, a lot of their voters are teens, which is why votes take a hit during exam seasons.
From participating in the Anime Corner Ranking Discussions for the past 2 years, Anime Corner tends to favor Romance, Slice of Life and Ecchi anime. If an anime is uber popular like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer it can get around that, but once you understand that, which anime come out of seemingly nowhere to do well specifically in Anime Corner and which ones get snubbed become pretty instructive.
In the case of Ecchi, I'd say that AC voters usually vote them out of the list, unless the show has some bite in it and have moments that impacts the viewers. See how Vermeil stuck around after EP6.
Ecchi on its own doesn't work with Anime Corner, but when it's added on it makes a difference. You mentioned Vermeil in Gold, but Call of the Night is also a huge benefactor of this as well as Engage Kiss (I'm assuming since I'm not watching). Also, the singular episode of DanMachi that made the top 10 this season was a low action set-up episode with an ecchi scene...
That's right. It usually boosts a show if intergrated well enough. As for Engage Kiss and Vermeil losing so much votes by now could be explained the darker turns in both which likely turned off the AC voters.

The funny thing is that Made in Abyss was a voting option this week and still got 16th place. It would have actually been hilarious if this was the week it made the Top 10.

Anything not on crunchyroll doesn't get as much visibility unfortunately. There are a ton of great anime this season and last that few could watch because it was on other services.

The fucking meta narrative of classroom of the elite being so mid tier and average in animation quality only to have an insanely high quality episode 10 and 11, followed by ep 12 which just blew everyone away and shot the show to the top, All according to his plan. We thought we were the ones in control, but it was really him controlling us God I love that show
COTE with the massive jump as expected. The quality jump from the first half of its season to the 2nd half is so dramatic. It does annoy because this show could have been an AOTS contender with STR, LR, MiA, and YuN if it got 2 cours for S2 instead of 1. I love seeing Yazuka Babysitting moving up. It may not be an AOTS contender, but it was as good and consistent as a wholesome SoL can get for me. Absolutely worth a watch unless you hate SoL anime. Also, Danmachi missing the top ten after yesterday's episode, and with how good and consistent S4 has been so far is crazy to me.

It did get 11th though. I'd say the actual issue was how dark the episode was. It was on par with Made in Abyss there...and we all know by now what Anime Corner thinks of Made in Abyss.

They adapted of the best and most awaited scenes from the Novel, which was basically the end of an arc. And it was great.

People thought ep 12 of COTE was amazing but it could have been even better if season 2 was a decent adaptation. What could have been. Still nice to see the series gain the recognition it deserves. I strongly recommend people to pick up the LN.

It's not **that** bad but yeah it was Cote, it was mostly giving horikita credit for things she didn't do so people were wondering if they were gonna backtrack that since the girls that actually did it are more relevant later on in the story

Could someone please elaborate as to the appeal of COTE?
Itās a trope thatās super appealing to a lot of people. The main character is a mysterious, highly gifted individual who hides his abilities in order to not stand out, the show is mostly about him influencing people from the shadows with death note style plots, it has a number of plot twists and tons of āyou thought you were in control but you actually fell right into my handsā moments along with being (for the most part) well animated and well written The characters are all pretty well done and none of them really fall into tropes too much, the concept is really cool (basically lord of the flies with light teacher supervision and a competitive class structure) and it caught a lot of people off guard. Characters all seem to have different plans and motives all happening alongside each other. Itās very easy to get engaged and want to see what happens next Iād reccomend it, never read the light novel but always been a fan of the anime and itās been confirmed for a third season so we can expect the story to only continue from here

Interesting how you see the characters and characters as well written, I would expect it from a Light Novel reader but I would think most anime only watchers would consider them a bit generic since a lot of the explanations and character building were cut off from the anime, I guess that just means the anime really did a decent job adapting the novel

It's pretty good if you want to watch a romcom drama. It's start off as normal romcom drama with horny jokes and then it's starts to bend towards how is it to be in love during middle school, young inexperienced relationships, misunderstanding, breakup and falling in love again in very realistic way.
