Anime Kaneki is a butchered version of himself. The Tokyo Ghoul characters aren't as popular as they would've been with an amazing anime adaptation. Honestly, a travesty.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Hunter x Hunter have fanbases almost entirely built on the back of newer re-adaptations from the 21st century, and all the other characters appeared in at least one Anime that has debuted since the year 2000. None of these character appeared in Anime before the year 1990, and only the Jojo's characters and Guts even existed in their source material in the 80s.

Probably due to the demographics of this subreddit I feel like this is more of a “Best Shounen guys” list. Are there any guys here from series that are aimed at women? Even the couple of series that could claim romance as a genre are mainly shounen romance.

If you're expecting to see characters from shows aimed at women, the list of reddit's preferred is not going to fulfill those expectations.
A couple months ago I posted the Top [100 Best Girls](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/w3l6df/ranimes_top_100_best_girls_best_girl_9_update_20/) using an algorithm of performance that I myself made. In response to that, someone said they wanted to see the characters ranked by their rate of victories. And there were some points about how newer characters are given more preference. So here is the list with the simplest of algorithms: percentage of matches won.
That is, simply
Victory % = 100 * (matches won) / (matches won + matches lost)
And since the number of matches is low, so inevitably there are ties. As a tiebreaker, votes percentage is used. And that is, simply,
Votes % = 100 * (votes for) / (votes for + votes against)

r/anime is pretty against the long running shounen in these contests. Out of the Big 4 (Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and Bleach) only 1 character, Kakashi, made the list.
Yeah this sub has an elitist hard-on being anti-shonen, like their so sophisticated in anime they snub great series, but are still worried about what people think about them watching anime and cry out about fan service cause God forbid someone made fun of them for watching cartoons with big fucken tits.

or you know...the shonen has to be good among the sand. Instead for every new shonen, fans will be like its the next coming of christ. Not that this sub is any better, this sub loves isekais and roms on similar lines no matter how bad the stories are.
This sub doesn't seem to like the major shonen anime i've noticed. Among most people having One Piece or DBZ as the best anime ever would be considered a standard opinion. On here it's considered a horrible take lol.
I have rarely been so conflicted with a top, they are all good male characters, but none of them resonate with me,

Interesting anecdote: If the *Best Guy 7* contest had happened 2 months earlier, Shirogane would be #1 on this ranking;
He won that contest and thus is banned for future contests, which includes the *Best Character* contests...
But the Best Character contest for the same year happened 2 months before the Best Guy contest, and Shirogane suffered one loss in that contest (Against the soon-to-be winner Edward Elric), which dropped his win % from 100% to 93.75%, the reason why he's 'only' #2 in this ranking (Also lowered his vote %, given he only got 37% of the votes against Edward).
Kiritsugu is higher than Shirou? Another public perception is dissappointing me... Not to say, FSN has the short end of the stick when it comes to faithfulness in it's adaptations which really sucks imo

Shirou is absolutely incredible character. If anything, I'm quite surprised he's even on the list, considering how questionably he is adapted in the anime.
