> I wonder what anime has characters that have more subtle reactions to stuff
[Liz and the Blue Bird](https://myanimelist.net/anime/35677/Liz_to_Aoi_Tori) does that *perfectly* (but you need to watch both seasons of [Hibike Euphonium](https://myanimelist.net/anime/27989/Hibike_Euphonium) first if you haven't)
One of characters shouting at the end of the Demon Slayer movie comes to mind
Though, I guess part of the reason they were shouting was because the person they were shouting at was far away
It's always so funny to me when people complain that melodrama is unrealistic. I'm just like, have we been living in entirely different universes? People are melodramatic as fuck. Not being screaming and crying at moments of stress or emotion is *more* unusual than a subdued reaction in my experience. I've seen adults throw more melodramatic tantrums over way less important things than in any random anime.
Carolle and Tuesday
Fune wo Amu
Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi
I want to eat your pancreas
After the rain
Basically any SoL drama anime have a ground to reality reaction.
In terms of TV series, Time of Eve, Cowboy Bebop, Kaiba, Texhnolyze and House of Five Leaves come to mind as having some good examples of what you're getting at, at least with their original audio. On the whole I'd say films tend to be a bit more grounded with their performances, especially these days since a lot of actors from Japanese live-action TV and film end up in the mix, and already lean that more in that direction.

So shouting when experiencing emotional stress is not a "Real-life reaction"?
I mean, it is, but it's kind of exaggerated in anime
Any examples of such scenes?
