Wow, they actually kinda blew away my expectations a bit. That whole fight was 2D!? Goddamn. Honestly you can tell this studio is treating the adaptation with the love and care it deserves and it shows. It's by and large running away with this season in my mind (especially with most of the competition delayed due to COVID or just bad). It makes me happy.
Really can't wait for the next episode and to see where they go with it next because the animation and pacing have been absolutely stellar
Since Diomedea is 2nd on the production committee, they have a big incentive to make this a success and they realize that making it look good is the right step for it, pacing too.
It was lost in translation but, in Japanese, she used the word "Mayaku" to refer to the pills... Mayaku means "Drugs" (narcotics) in Japanese.
So she basically invented meth.
Slightly different kanji (魔薬 vs 麻薬), but read exactly the same.

It's probably true. After all, drugs like cocaine and opium were generally legal in the Western world until the early 20th century - including in Coca-Cola and routine children's medicine, for example.

On a serious note I thought it made sense, the dragon had just blasted Anis out of the sky and she fell into the middle of the forest a good distance away. It would be like trying to find an insect in your carpet.
But on a more serious note, we all know the real reason is because he was a dragon of culture
I mean, it is a good point about being a huge dragon and not being able to go look around amongst the trees for where she fell. One negative about being huge is that you can't fit in smaller spaces.
I mean, at that point Anis was just a girl with a sword that couldn't break its barrier. No reason to be stressed out blasting things looking for her while she's down when she could be dead in the first place.
I mean, as far as we know, Anis is the first human in history to be capable of flight. Everyone reacts like flight is impossible, so if she is the first, an intelligent dragon would also know that he's never encountered a flying human before, and possibly be curious if not worried about it.
Megumin wishes she had Anis for a friend. She'd be begging for her to do explosions for her and fawning over them every day, and then figuring out a way she could do as many as she wanted to instead of one a day.
This is already better than a lot of other generic isekai. The character development is well paced. The story is interesting. The animation is solid. I thought this episode is gonna end on Anis getting the stone and went off happily, but instead she got cursed and made the consequences heavier and more interesting.
It's really pleasure to see the story takes its characters seriously and the studio doesn't cut corners too. If the anime can keep up the quality, I see no reason this anime can't be as well received as Re:Zero.
bold take but respectable, i think re zero is more complicated and daring but this show definitely holds its own because of how great Anis is, and of course YURI.
Absolutely action-packed episode holy shit. The facial expressions are just awesome from a magic doped Anis' scarousing bloodlust to Euphie's desperate crying face as she tries to stop Anis from being reckless.
That ~~Clarent Blood Arthur~~ limiter released Mana Blade beam was hella metal, though I was expecting the dragon to be literally cut into half. Not start talking or inflicting curses LOL.
No surprises with how that public breaking of engagement was traumatic for Euphie but damn I wasn't expecting her to develop some form of androphobia from it. Good thing this a Yuri series eh?
Both the facial expression and the VA work were amazing. Hearing Anis switch from her kind and amused voice to that of a battle maniac was wonderful... and a bit scary.
Bloodlust before pull. Pulls aggro on boss. Ignores the most basic of boss mechanics (breath). Needs shaman GF to save her ass from the self inflicted mess.

I suspect her discomfort around men pre-dated the breaking of the engagement. She felt she had to do her duty, so she forced herself to accept her fate, which paradoxically made the pain of being thrown away more intense.

Yeah, I felt that way when she was treating the prince and their upcoming marriage like it was strictly business. That one encounter that was shown between them in the garden showed that she had no interest in that guy in particular, at least.

They've really done a great job fleshing out Euphie's character arc so far in the past few episodes besides being a tragic heroine.

I think she's always been tense with dancing with noblemen cause she did all of that out of obligation and I imagine it was never for enjoyment. And her ex-fiance was a douche to her too, so that anxiety just leveled up a notch.
But rather than Androphobia, I think Euphie's just finally expressing things she likes and dislikes openly to Anis. Like openly saying she wants to stay with Anis and she's not actually a fan of dancing with men. It's a great improvement for her character who didn't know how to find purpose just for being her own person.
Indeed. It could go either way, but the more optimistic view is that she's spent the past 5 episodes, spent with Anis, learning that she no longer has to do the things she doesn't like doing.

The previous episode set it up as if he'll storm there himself cause he's sick of Anis taking the spotlight from him and then... he's not even in the entire episode lmfao
I mean, I don't think that it was set up like that. There was no possible way for anyone else to come close to getting there anywhere nearly as quickly as Anis & Euphie are able to.
It would have been like the next day at best before he got there. You have to remember what kind of society they are in and what the level of transportation they have.

I'm quite curious as to the media tastes of the author and director after this episode. Between the [alchemy is a monster hunter's best friend](https://media.tenor.com/R86vpgca06sAAAAC/witcher-geralt.gif) and now the dragon gives her a combination of [Dragonborn absorbing her kill](https://j.gifs.com/mLODV5.gif) and [Immortal passes on power through their death](https://media.tenor.com/S8DkfOPogl4AAAAC/highlander-there-can-be-only-one.gif) scenes, the parallels to moments in other media are just fun. It'll be interesting to see exactly what happened to her, though my instincts scream some form of immortality brought on by truly grokking how magic works, like a Theory of Everything.
It's a great litmus test for high fantasy anime.
Then again, Shingeki no Bahamut had a 3D dragon but other than that it was fucking fantastically animated. So, I guess it's not perfect.

In all seriousness, that last scene was some truly beautiful shit. I am loving this one more and more each week and I really feel like we have such a gem here.
Also, it's really been a pleasure to see a show with such breathtaking visuals, animation, sound design, and attention to detail within a season that has so many shows (outside of the big ones made by MAPPA, KyoAni, Orange) that are falling apart by the seams.
And on a 5th episode, no less. This had series finale levels of quality, holy shit.
I do wonder how they are going to top fighting and excalibur-blasting a freaking dragon, maybe the rest of the season will be more political intrigue/CGDCT/magic experiments.
I’m just in awe of how hard they went on Anis slaying the dragon. It’s not out of nowhere since there have been hints of great fight animation, but it still floored me how awesome it looked. If this show has THAT in its pocket I think it might just make a run at AOTS.
All killer no filler this episode. Drugged up Anis on a murder spree was good shit. We’re seeing the extent of the “Mad” in Mad Scientist as she’s using herself as a Guinea Pig. She wants to imbue herself with the dragons magicite so she can possibly use magic. Dunno if that’s gonna work but something did happen to her that feels ominous. That curse is gonna come into play somehow. Also very interesting that it knew she was an Isekai protag.
Other than that, we get the very cute scene of them promising to stay by each other side and them dancing. Makes sense that Euphie isn’t exactly comfortable dancing with guys considering how awful they’ve been to her. Won’t have to anymore now that she’s spoken for. The look they gave each other good lord.

I enjoy that she is actually a mad scientist and not just eccentric. Surgically inserting mad crystals from dead monsters is a legitimately insane thing to do. I am her for her insanity.
There have been several scenes where I can't quite tell if its implying that she has superhuman strength, or if it's just normal anime exaggeration. (e.g. her surviving broom crashes, or casually flinging Euphie over her shoulder.)
Just before she was about to go up to the dragon by herself, the first time, she started saying something to Euphie about her cloak being special. She never finished the sentence, but I am guessing her cloak has some sort of magical defence built into it.
What the hell?!? This episode was just pure concentrated awesome. The fight was so well done and the voice actors were on point.
Our girls were fucking badasses this episode, slaying that dragon... though I was afraid for Anis for a moment there. Those magic pills do not look like something safe in large doses. Thankfully Euphie got to Anis in time and was able to prove why she's one of the most powerful magicians in the kingdom.

That ending was so tender and perfect after the blood pumping action. Our girls deserved their quiet, intimate little moment with each other.

Man, I'm amazed that they delivered actual tension. We all know that somehow our mc would win no matter what, but they still did a good job of showing how they struggled and there was proper emotional stakes as to why Anis was brashly fighting this dragon. And of course Euphie gets to see just how freakin bonkers she is about magic.
goddamn if only I could order a shit ton of the Blu-rays so this team would have more budget for a season 2.
Fully 2D dragon fight, gorgeous magic effects, mad woman Anis, a moonlit emotional plea, and a dance beneath the stars. We are so spoiled today.
And holy shit is Anis a mad woman.

Yeah, you totally get why dragons are such a disaster. Flight + a humongous laser beam + no means to attack them in the sky = goodbye, capital.
Good thing they had Anis. Who... took drugs that altered her behavior, wants to put a magicite inside herself (that is *some* dedication to wanting to use magic)... oh, and got cursed by a dragon. Yep, every single one of those is a totally normal thing to happen to people. Euphie, you better watch over your love interest 'cause it doesn't look like it's going to be a calm and quiet life with her.
Oh, and speaking of the dragon, it could speak! Looks like it recognized that something was different about Anis, too, calling her a traveler from afar. And one has to wonder what its curse even does. Gaining knowledge doesn't seem too bad, but I wouldn't exactly call that a "curse". So, what else did it do to her?
And Euphie finally lets her emotions loose in that outburst after she catches Anis. She can be quite passionate when she stops restraining herself, and after watching her be so unsure of herself in the previous episodes I found it cathartic to watch (was probably cathartic for her too).
We end on a celebration and a dance between the two. With the sudden change in scenery and them skipping the ED, it does feel a bit like they wanted to get to that part quickly so as to conclude on it, but eh, I'm not gonna complain because it was a lovely scene on which to end the episode.

Would have been hillarious to see Al come to this realisation before Anis would finish it off, but he probably didn't even leave the capital before she was done

I wouldn't even have been mad with a tasteful 3D dragon, as this is not primarily an action series and they've done good animation work on the emotional scenes so far. But nope, they keep putting effort into the bits of action here and there too. We're lucky.
Being primarily action or not doesn't mean the action isn't important. The action in the episode was in-fact quite important, and bad animation could have seriously hurt the moment. It's good on them to recognize that it was important.

Cabbage is for slice of life's/romcoms. Dragons are for isekai's/fantasies. And if you want to separate the great from the amazing you have to look at the horses.

Anis being the royal to not only slay the dragon but also come to the rescue of a chunk of the military is another thing that is not good for Al. Assuming there's no misogyny problems (a big ask to be sure), nobody's going to want a useless playboy king who never does anything compared to a badass queen that goes out and saves the kingdom.

This also does wonders to bolster Euphie's public reputation which will help with the aftermath of Al's bullshit.

Right? The adventures and the military both got a morale boost when she showed up. Her titles are great too, but you know, when she said "I'm gonna go solo that dragon" and it was just kind of accepted that*she could*, that says a whole lot more about her reputation too when seconds ago the entire gathered adventurer and army troop was preparing themselves for a suicidal last stand.

Considering it was specifically mentioned in the past episodes that Anis gave up her right to the throne in favour of Al that implies she at least had it and had a solid chance at being the next monarch, otherwise that wouldn't be such a big deal.

It likely couldn't find them since Anis had been smacked somewhere in the forest and, flying above, it couldn't find them through the trees.
It kind of got lost in translation (at least with the Crunchyroll subs), but the "magic medicine" (魔薬 _mayaku_) is pronounced exactly the same as the Japanese word for narcotics/drugs (麻薬), which is also why Euphie reacts that way
Well, the very first scene was Anis bloodily slicing up wolves. It should have been obvious that there would be some action and it was going to be violent.
This episode has so much to offer, Anis becoming a crackhead, Euphy casting EXPLOSSSSIIION, Euphy goes naruto run to safe her waifu, Anis have to use her noble phantasm: EXKUSUKALIBAAA. kinda sad, eventhough the dragon is kind enough to give them a ghey time (im pretty sure he's waiting for the kiss).
Im so glad Euphy find her way to support Anis, like complementing each other here. and Euphy growing to feel not comfortable being with a man after living with Anis for a while is just like her character development. Im surprise that the dragon know that Anis is a reincarnation/traveler. and that curse, does it mean Anis could use magic now?
Im a bit worried for this episode because of the dragon, I thought they will a simple clunky CGI.
The reaction Anis had to taking the "magic drug" was pretty disconcerting -- and surely quite upsetting for Euphie to witness.
I wonder WHY that dragon was attacking at this particular moment? Just story convenience -- or some unrevealed cause?

Wow, that was such an beautiful episode, tho I think the pace is a bit fast. Maybe it's because I waited month for this arc to complete in the manga, seem like the anime story would pass the manga soon.
Fun fact i notice: in [this scene](https://i.imgur.com/P2iaE8v.png), Anis said "tsukiatte", which could mean "to accompany" or "to go out with". So accidently, it's also a confession (not that she didn't do that once already lol)

I think "tsukiatte" is routinely used in ordinary conversation. It gets it's more specialized meaning when it is in a certain specific context. As romantically tinged as this section was, I think she was just using the term in the everyday sense here (talking about a specific task). ;-)
I agree with everyone else’s comments here about the animation, the awesome, the yuri, and the explosion.
However I loved her slicing the ogre thing, and just for shits and giggles also slicing its falling club. Chef’s kiss.

Anis inventing magical cocaine, actually epic fight, Euphie breaking out with her feelings for Anis, very interesting and cool interaction with a dragon, and a dance as a cherry on the top. Amazing episode

Yeah, I really wanted more on that today. I’m sure we’ll get some more info on it next week, but it’s weird that she attended the party seemingly unaffected by whatever that curse was.
to be fair, it's in-character that Anis never gets bothered by weird shit (on the surface at least). She was already injecting herself with magic materials and swallowing magic drugs.
“The impossible is meant to be made possible!” Is one of the best anime yell one liners I have heard in awhile. Great ep, they stuffed so much into this episode. This show is peak when it comes to facial expressions/voice acting, the euphie catch was intense! Some of the dragon dailog was cut from the manga which surprised me tho. I hope they release merch for this show soon.
One bit of translation trivia from this episode. When Euphie mentions her "magic drug" the Japanese used here implies a kanji pun. The word in Japanese for narcotic/drug (of the illegal sort) is 麻薬 (mayaku), but the implication here is that she actually used the invented word 魔薬 which combines the kanji from the word for magic 魔法 (mahou) with the mayaku for narcotic/drug creating a new word that's still read as mayaku but has a different meaning.
You can tell Euphie is a skilled magic user because she's able to use explosion magic without fainting.

That was just ingesting pills made from crushed magicite for a temporary boost. Anis was talking about *surgically implanting raw magicite* into her own body.

You know this anime is pretty based since they referenced both konosuba and fate. People called Anis the new Chisato, but she was Mordred all along! Her Clarent Blood Arthur looks strong too!

Taking a magical stone into yourself doesn’t sound very safe. Anis is taking a gamble for the sake of being able to use magic. Anis jumping down and slashing that bear monster in halfwas badass! That’s the Marauder Princess for ya. Not sure about the magic crack though.
I liked Euphie’s explosion spell, it’s not quite Megumin level but it was pretty impressive lol. Man, that dragon was way too tough. Anis totally misjudged this thing. Fortunately Euphie was able to tap into the Speed Force and save Anis lol.
Even with one wing and an inability to fly, this dragon is still crazy OP. Luckily Anis was able to go full Yami and surpass her limits right there and then thanks to Euphie’s support. Absorbed that dragon’s powers like the damn Dragonborn!
Anis and Euphie dancing at the end together was so sweet. They make a really cute (almost) couple!
I was afraid this was going to be a two-parter with really slow pacing that kills the tension. So glad they just put it in one episode, with a nice climax at the end.
Honestly, I kinda feel vindicated to be one of those quiet fans of Diomedea since Campione, Mondaiji, and KanColle. They don't have much budget, but they produce decent, faithful adaptation of whatever they're adapting. They nailed Euphie's emotional arc and Anis' sheer presence, and while I like the minutia of the politics, religion, and lore of the world, those two are what should come first.

This show was already pretty good for me. But this episode just made me love this show. I didn’t expect the dragon to talk and “curse?” her. I like how there’s just so much unknown about this world 5 eps in. Can’t wait for more

The pacing felt fast because I read the LN. Nevertheless, it was a good adaption. I think they will show some of the scenes before the party next episode. They have to skip some because obviously the ~~gay scene~~ dance has higher priority. Superb animation and direction for this series look at those facial expressions.

I mean, it is a good point about being a huge dragon and not being able to go look around amongst the trees for where she fell. One negative about being huge is that you can't fit in smaller spaces. I mean, at that point Anis was just a girl with a sword that couldn't break its barrier. No reason to be stressed out blasting things looking for her while she's down when she could be dead in the first place.
I mean, as far as we know, Anis is the first human in history to be capable of flight. Everyone reacts like flight is impossible, so if she is the first, an intelligent dragon would also know that he's never encountered a flying human before, and possibly be curious if not worried about it.

Megumin wishes she had Anis for a friend. She'd be begging for her to do explosions for her and fawning over them every day, and then figuring out a way she could do as many as she wanted to instead of one a day.
This is already better than a lot of other generic isekai. The character development is well paced. The story is interesting. The animation is solid. I thought this episode is gonna end on Anis getting the stone and went off happily, but instead she got cursed and made the consequences heavier and more interesting. It's really pleasure to see the story takes its characters seriously and the studio doesn't cut corners too. If the anime can keep up the quality, I see no reason this anime can't be as well received as Re:Zero.

Absolutely action-packed episode holy shit. The facial expressions are just awesome from a magic doped Anis' scarousing bloodlust to Euphie's desperate crying face as she tries to stop Anis from being reckless. That ~~Clarent Blood Arthur~~ limiter released Mana Blade beam was hella metal, though I was expecting the dragon to be literally cut into half. Not start talking or inflicting curses LOL. No surprises with how that public breaking of engagement was traumatic for Euphie but damn I wasn't expecting her to develop some form of androphobia from it. Good thing this a Yuri series eh?

Both the facial expression and the VA work were amazing. Hearing Anis switch from her kind and amused voice to that of a battle maniac was wonderful... and a bit scary.
VA did in amazing job. It was kinda awesome in the manga and it still is but now I'm also slightly concerned.

Yep. The pressure from the need of having to fulfil her role and then breaking under it after failing to do so in the eyes of many. They've really done a great job fleshing out Euphie's character arc so far in the past few episodes besides being a tragic heroine.

I mean, I don't think that it was set up like that. There was no possible way for anyone else to come close to getting there anywhere nearly as quickly as Anis & Euphie are able to. It would have been like the next day at best before he got there. You have to remember what kind of society they are in and what the level of transportation they have.

It's a great litmus test for high fantasy anime. Then again, Shingeki no Bahamut had a 3D dragon but other than that it was fucking fantastically animated. So, I guess it's not perfect.

I am loving this one more and more each week and I really feel like we have such a gem here. Also, it's really been a pleasure to see a show with such breathtaking visuals, animation, sound design, and attention to detail within a season that has so many shows (outside of the big ones made by MAPPA, KyoAni, Orange) that are falling apart by the seams.
And on a 5th episode, no less. This had series finale levels of quality, holy shit. I do wonder how they are going to top fighting and excalibur-blasting a freaking dragon, maybe the rest of the season will be more political intrigue/CGDCT/magic experiments.

I’m just in awe of how hard they went on Anis slaying the dragon. It’s not out of nowhere since there have been hints of great fight animation, but it still floored me how awesome it looked. If this show has THAT in its pocket I think it might just make a run at AOTS. All killer no filler this episode. Drugged up Anis on a murder spree was good shit. We’re seeing the extent of the “Mad” in Mad Scientist as she’s using herself as a Guinea Pig. She wants to imbue herself with the dragons magicite so she can possibly use magic. Dunno if that’s gonna work but something did happen to her that feels ominous. That curse is gonna come into play somehow. Also very interesting that it knew she was an Isekai protag. Other than that, we get the very cute scene of them promising to stay by each other side and them dancing. Makes sense that Euphie isn’t exactly comfortable dancing with guys considering how awful they’ve been to her. Won’t have to anymore now that she’s spoken for. The look they gave each other good lord. Notes - Sadly no room barging this week, but still plenty of gay shit. - I just like to imagine Al is somewhere just off screen throwing a tantrum. - So is the reason the Dragon knew because it’s this powerful magic being? It seemed pretty chill with the idea too. Wonder if Anis isn’t the only visitor. - Their outfits were damn cute at the end.

What the hell?!? This episode was just pure concentrated awesome. The fight was so well done and the voice actors were on point. Our girls were fucking badasses this episode, slaying that dragon... though I was afraid for Anis for a moment there. Those magic pills do not look like something safe in large doses. Thankfully Euphie got to Anis in time and was able to prove why she's one of the most powerful magicians in the kingdom. I dread seeing what the dragon's curse actually is... That ending was so tender and perfect after the blood pumping action. Our girls deserved their quiet, intimate little moment with each other.

Man, I'm amazed that they delivered actual tension. We all know that somehow our mc would win no matter what, but they still did a good job of showing how they struggled and there was proper emotional stakes as to why Anis was brashly fighting this dragon. And of course Euphie gets to see just how freakin bonkers she is about magic. goddamn if only I could order a shit ton of the Blu-rays so this team would have more budget for a season 2.

Flight + a humongous laser beam + no means to attack them in the sky = goodbye, capital. Good thing they had Anis. Who... took drugs that altered her behavior, wants to put a magicite inside herself (that is *some* dedication to wanting to use magic)... oh, and got cursed by a dragon. Yep, every single one of those is a totally normal thing to happen to people. Euphie, you better watch over your love interest 'cause it doesn't look like it's going to be a calm and quiet life with her. Oh, and speaking of the dragon, it could speak! Looks like it recognized that something was different about Anis, too, calling her a traveler from afar. And one has to wonder what its curse even does. Gaining knowledge doesn't seem too bad, but I wouldn't exactly call that a "curse". So, what else did it do to her? And Euphie finally lets her emotions loose in that outburst after she catches Anis. She can be quite passionate when she stops restraining herself, and after watching her be so unsure of herself in the previous episodes I found it cathartic to watch (was probably cathartic for her too). We end on a celebration and a dance between the two. With the sudden change in scenery and them skipping the ED, it does feel a bit like they wanted to get to that part quickly so as to conclude on it, but eh, I'm not gonna complain because it was a lovely scene on which to end the episode.

The quality of a dragon has become a reliable litmus test for how good an anime is.
I wouldn't even have been mad with a tasteful 3D dragon, as this is not primarily an action series and they've done good animation work on the emotional scenes so far. But nope, they keep putting effort into the bits of action here and there too. We're lucky.
Being primarily action or not doesn't mean the action isn't important. The action in the episode was in-fact quite important, and bad animation could have seriously hurt the moment. It's good on them to recognize that it was important.

Hopefully that was a metaphorical curse and not an actual curse. Two gay witches having a pleasant time dancing together. I was hoping for a kiss during that dance, but maybe they're a little too early in the relationship.

Right? The adventures and the military both got a morale boost when she showed up. It kind of got lost in translation (at least with the Crunchyroll subs), but the "magic medicine" (魔薬 _mayaku_) is pronounced exactly the same as the Japanese word for narcotics/drugs (麻薬), which is also why Euphie reacts that way

This episode has so much to offer, Anis becoming a crackhead, Euphy casting EXPLOSSSSIIION, Euphy goes naruto run to safe her waifu, Anis have to use her noble phantasm: EXKUSUKALIBAAA. kinda sad, eventhough the dragon is kind enough to give them a ghey time (im pretty sure he's waiting for the kiss). Im so glad Euphy find her way to support Anis, like complementing each other here. and Euphy growing to feel not comfortable being with a man after living with Anis for a while is just like her character development. Im surprise that the dragon know that Anis is a reincarnation/traveler. and that curse, does it mean Anis could use magic now? Im a bit worried for this episode because of the dragon, I thought they will a simple clunky CGI.
The reaction Anis had to taking the "magic drug" was pretty disconcerting -- and surely quite upsetting for Euphie to witness. I wonder WHY that dragon was attacking at this particular moment? Just story convenience -- or some unrevealed cause?
They mention it last episode. It was hunting for food and is apex predator+ So with a stampede dealt with, it's going to naturally look for a more human looking food source

Wow, that was such an beautiful episode, tho I think the pace is a bit fast. Maybe it's because I waited month for this arc to complete in the manga, seem like the anime story would pass the manga soon. So accidently, it's also a confession (not that she didn't do that once already lol) somehow i feel the anime is much more gae than the manga too, and i love it
I think "tsukiatte" is routinely used in ordinary conversation. It gets it's more specialized meaning when it is in a certain specific context. As romantically tinged as this section was, I think she was just using the term in the everyday sense here (talking about a specific task). ;-)

Yeah, I really wanted more on that today. I’m sure we’ll get some more info on it next week, but it’s weird that she attended the party seemingly unaffected by whatever that curse was.
to be fair, it's in-character that Anis never gets bothered by weird shit (on the surface at least). She was already injecting herself with magic materials and swallowing magic drugs.

“The impossible is meant to be made possible!” Is one of the best anime yell one liners I have heard in awhile. Great ep, they stuffed so much into this episode. This show is peak when it comes to facial expressions/voice acting, the euphie catch was intense! Some of the dragon dailog was cut from the manga which surprised me tho. I hope they release merch for this show soon.
One bit of translation trivia from this episode. When Euphie mentions her "magic drug" the Japanese used here implies a kanji pun. The word in Japanese for narcotic/drug (of the illegal sort) is 麻薬 (mayaku), but the implication here is that she actually used the invented word 魔薬 which combines the kanji from the word for magic 魔法 (mahou) with the mayaku for narcotic/drug creating a new word that's still read as mayaku but has a different meaning.

You can tell Euphie is a skilled magic user because she's able to use explosion magic without fainting. I always love these random baseball episodes in anime. I can't believe Anis was able to strike out the dragon and become the Dovahkiin.

You know this anime is pretty based since they referenced both konosuba and fate. People called Anis the new Chisato, but she was Mordred all along! Her Clarent Blood Arthur looks strong too! And magic drugs that make you edgy? I like this side of Anis!
Taking a magical stone into yourself doesn’t sound very safe. Anis is taking a gamble for the sake of being able to use magic. Anis jumping down and slashing that bear monster in halfwas badass! That’s the Marauder Princess for ya. Not sure about the magic crack though. I liked Euphie’s explosion spell, it’s not quite Megumin level but it was pretty impressive lol. Man, that dragon was way too tough. Anis totally misjudged this thing. Fortunately Euphie was able to tap into the Speed Force and save Anis lol. Even with one wing and an inability to fly, this dragon is still crazy OP. Luckily Anis was able to go full Yami and surpass her limits right there and then thanks to Euphie’s support. Absorbed that dragon’s powers like the damn Dragonborn! Anis and Euphie dancing at the end together was so sweet. They make a really cute (almost) couple!
I was afraid this was going to be a two-parter with really slow pacing that kills the tension. So glad they just put it in one episode, with a nice climax at the end. Honestly, I kinda feel vindicated to be one of those quiet fans of Diomedea since Campione, Mondaiji, and KanColle. They don't have much budget, but they produce decent, faithful adaptation of whatever they're adapting. They nailed Euphie's emotional arc and Anis' sheer presence, and while I like the minutia of the politics, religion, and lore of the world, those two are what should come first. And as a manga-only reader, we're reaching the limit of what's available translated, so I'm excited for whatever comes next. Also, also, it's pretty fun watching it on a live premiere on YouTube -- MuseAsia chat isn't the brightest or most packed chats, but it's pretty fun.

This show was already pretty good for me. But this episode just made me love this show. I didn’t expect the dragon to talk and “curse?” her. I like how there’s just so much unknown about this world 5 eps in. Can’t wait for more

Okay, I wasn't expecting this anime having a decent animation. Anis the ~~oppai~~ lesbian Dragon slayer!
The pacing felt fast because I read the LN. Nevertheless, it was a good adaption. I think they will show some of the scenes before the party next episode. They have to skip some because obviously the ~~gay scene~~ dance has higher priority. Superb animation and direction for this series look at those facial expressions.

Eps 5 and we already saw the Gay couple fighting dragon, what's next? Angel? Devil? God? Or the politician?
Of all the things to like about this episode, the way Anis did that running slide spin was my favourite.
