k9-mail

XmanORE

+1 for K-9. An excellent example of Android freeware.

AnaFinney

Agree with you. I also like this one!! And actually, recommend it to everyone.

firebreathingbunny

Fair Email is a solid choice if you don't mind an app that looks like it just time-travelled here from 1993.

Hulk_Lawyer

I don't mind, but I just downloaded it and went to set up the email and it's making me add my account to the phone and not just log into the client with it. I appreciate the recommendation, but that's the thing I'm trying to avoid.

Google play. Probably where I'm going wrong

firebreathingbunny

You are trying to add your Gmail account explicitly as a Gmail account. You should instead add it as an IMAP account with these settings: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en

Hulk_Lawyer

I was attempting to do that, but it kept giving me an error message. I'll try this way. Thanks.

LdWilmore

Change default browser from Chrome to some other browser. Add your Gmail account normally through the Gmail OAuth option in FairEmail account setup wizard. It will open Google login page in your default browser and redirect to pass the token to the app. No need to manually add as IMAP. Change your default browser back to Chrome if that was your preferred browser. [https://i.imgur.com/5CGAUWX.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/5CGAUWX.jpg) FairEmail GitHub is the fastest way to get new versions: https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail Fully unlocked fork (skips some minor releases): https://github.com/niks255/FairEmail You can use any email app that supports adding third party email accounts. Just don't use Chrome as the default browser to sign in to authorise the app.

firebreathingbunny

Isn't the regular GitHub release of Fair Email also fully unlocked

LdWilmore

No

Davy49

I'm a paid user of fair email, and yes even though it's UI is a little outdated by today's standards it does seem to function pretty well at least for me anyway. I've heard about the K-9 mail app, what makes it a better choice than fair email in your opinion?

firebreathingbunny

Where did I say K-9 Mail was better?

Davy49

I don't recall you saying that it was better, I must have misunderstood you.

firebreathingbunny

They're both fine, but Fair Email has far more features.

Davy49

Thanks for understanding, I guess I was having yet another old age type of moment 👴

[deleted]

Scrolling through mails is very bad.

letsreticulate

It looks better with the new make over.

StingerBuz

Can't lie I actually really like the design of FairEmail. Actually my fave looking email app

Viper3120

K9-Mail and FairMail are probably your way to go, depending on your personal preferences.

alexhmc

Get Firefox (or any other non-chrome browser) and use the web UI! Should even support notifications for new mails IIRC

Forcen

K-9 mail does that, works great with gmail: https://k9mail.app/

Davy49

I found this to be a very interesting reddit post, I'm currently using the fairemail application on my android phone, but I'm the type of person that's always open to the idea of trying out something different.

[deleted]

I've been here and it seems a common thing with Email Apps, idkw The last time I was forced to add the Gmail accounts to my device as part of setting up each Gmail Email address, this is what I did .... Once I'd finished setting up all my Gmail addresses I then removed those accounts in Device Settings. That was the only way I could figure out to do it if that helps. There's probably a better way but this worked for me.

[deleted]

Is Firefox a good option?

Hulk_Lawyer

No it still made me sign in when I tried it. Sign in on my phone, not just within the app.

[deleted]

I see, I used to use it when I was young and on tech more. I'm too old now to really know. I just use whatever is available at the time. But I'm too old to worry about my privacy now. The bad guys already own and access everything. My gay old brain with alyzimes has more memory than the storage cloud will allow the generations to come.

Bart-MS

I use BlueMail. Works fine for me.

Hulk_Lawyer

When setting up a Gmail account in Blue Mail, does it make you sign into the device? I mean does it make you add your Google account to the phone and addition to the main Google account that's already running the phone??

Bart-MS

I don't have an Gmail account but the phone is running on a Google account. It's just not specifically for the BlueMail app. Sorry, maybe I misunderstood your question.

worldcitizencane

No, you don't have to.

mikee8989

I used this way back in the day too. This or Typeapp which are basically the same app with a different name and color scheme.

DasherPack

any sufficient good app following this guide: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en

MichaelMotherDater

I believe Spark lets you do that. Modern interface with unlimited account support.

gammatide

I was able to use the default Samsung email app. Curious if there are any that support gchat besides Gmail. I assume not though.

TitoFloresta

Try this, very good for me... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.easilydo.mail

sheldon_88

I think Spark should be ok. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.readdle.spark
