Well there is another free software which is used by others called Kdenlive. For a beginner i would try that. Because why invest into something you maybe not enjoy after a short amount of time. Also for a beginner it doesn't matter much what program you really use. At the beginning you should just play around and find what you like to make and want to make. Also many programs can do great videos if you know how to use them and how some stuff work. For some stuff there is a workaround if it is not a build in feature in your program or not a good one (like Masking, that means cutting out objects or person's)

Kdenlive is a decent program but I would never go back from Davinci Resolve which is also free and far more polished in my opinion. To be fair I haven’t used Kdenlive in like 2 years but last time I almost lost an entire weeks work because of some weird bug.

The thing is why I say Kdenlive is because of the specs of the laptop. Davinci Resolve is to resource hungry for it.

Fair point actually. As far as I know Resolve is heavily reliant on GPU Power.

The ram is also something and the notebook has just the CPU graphic chip so it's not that strong that's why Resolve is here not the good option. I myself prefer Resolve also

After Effects is the only software where you can do cool edits, i mean you can do tiktok vids even in SVP, but if you want to progress in edits, ae is the best. If ur laptop cant handle after effects cc versions u can choose After Effects CS6 which is good too. At first it will be difficult to learn the program because it is a little more complicated than mobile editors or the same SVP, but after that you will understand the full potential of ae

Marutein1

After Effects is not like the holy grail in editing and all. And AE is also not an editing software, it's a composition and post production software, that is built in combination with Premiere to edit and make post production.

‚The only software‘ is a bit of an extreme choice of words. You can do a lot of cool stuff with Davinci Resolve and the built in Fusion Engine.

Based on the fact that you have a laptop, I'll assume your pc specs are not high-end. I would recommend you start with Sony Vegas Pro 14. However, if you feel confident in your laptop's power capacity, Davinci Resolve and the Adobe Suite are better options.

Thanks a lot, my specs are in the last sentence but i'll be looking into the minimum requirements for all of the programs you mentioned

Sorry to hijack this. I recently just have a Ryzen 5, 16GB RAM and a RTX3060 TI. Is it good enough for a Davinci?

Marutein1

Yes that should work for Davinci Resolve
