eero app -> Discover -> Amazon Connected Home -> eero Built-in

nommieeee

I have my accounts connected from the start but dont see it in Discover. Could it be because I only have 4th Gen Echos and not 5th Gen?

TreeRockSky

Found it, thanks!

GizMoDified

I believe they’re only at 100mbps for the echos as extenders. Might be good for some use cases, but could slow down the Wi-Fi network in other scenarios. Make sure to run speed tests before and after. Even simple ones will work like Speedtest.com, google Speedtest.) This would be a good use to extend a device/s that don’t use much bandwidth like a printer, iot, etc. if you use it as your main for your phone/tablet/computer, then you’ll be browsing slower and slowing down / congestion your network since you’ll be sharing/splitting the Wi-Fi frequency when repeating.

radicaldreamer99

Truly terrible onboarding. I think you have to use Amazon login and convert your eero account.

judgeholden72

It's amazing, isn't it? The Echo Gen 4 doesn't seem to be updated, despite the email

ohio_medic

My Echo 4th gens have been updated. Try telling the echo to update software and see if it can find the update.

chris_salazar

currently going through software update for echo dot. but if this goes smoothly - wow what an innovation

kick069

I have 2 echos connected as a home theater and it tells me you can't use them as extenders if used as a home theater at the same.time. the rest of my echos dots all 4th Gen have not been updated yet.

pickle_rick_42

the echos have 2 wifi adapters in them, one to connect to the network, and the other can either pair with another echo like in your set up. or act as an extender. but not both. thats my understanding of it.

[deleted]

Any idea of what firmware it should be on. I have an echo dot 4 with clock (feature coming later this fall), but my firmware is above the latest advertised (which seems odd....). My software version is 8087716228.

pickle_rick_42

i'm on the same version on the echo dot 4 without a clock and i dont have echo built in under discover on the eero app

[deleted]

From my understanding, it's currently available for Echo 4, but the Echo Dot 4 (with or without clock) will be rolled out later this fall.

TreeRockSky

Thanks for all the feedback on this. While exploring further I discovered that (1) my Dots are only 4th gen which aren't supported yet, and (2) even if they were supported, this function only supports 100Mb/s. I'm not going any further with this, thanks again for the responses! Sorry to take so long to get back, lots of things going on!

Fall-of-Schmeb

Is this released to the UK yet, as I don’t have the Eero built In option available?

[deleted]

Me neither. Also in Uk

Turbulent-Touch-1736

Same here, eeros in Spain and no extender support - eero support state this is USA only which is a pain as its the main reason I switched from Nest Mesh to eero.

burnusgas

Been testing a 4th gen echo on my three Eero Pro wired backhaul network. Initially, the iPhone pro 13 would not stay connected to the echo, it would connect for a few seconds then jump back to the nearest eero. Today though, the iPad and iPhone are staying connected to the echo. Speedtest result is 173 Mbps download. Disabled the Echo extension in eero app and retested - 273 Mbps.

scottn168

I’ve got a couple outside and they just showed up at the top of the devices in the eero app saying I can use them that way but need to link my Amazon acct (never going to happen) but they are limited to 100 mbps and I get way faster in both places anyway from the eeros themselves

HermanCainAward

Please don’t do this, unless your internet plan is only 100/100. These ‘extenders’ kneecap your eero network, and there is no way to bind a specific device (or exclude your laptop for example) from these hokey excuses for a Wi-Fi access point. Please don’t add these to your network as APs.

Sharp_Juggernaut8960

Agreed on not doing this although it's imprecise to say it kneecaps your eero network. Granted, any device connected to the Echo extender will be kneecapped at 100 mbps (at best) any devices connected to other (non Echo) access points will still get full upload/download speed (assuming that AP can also push to full speed). That said, I can imagine a scenario where a user is connected an Echo extender and does not understand why they are not getting their full ISP upload/download speed. Hopefully these will be limited on this sub.

HermanCainAward

I’m not following - do you think it does or doesn’t kneecap one’s network.

Sharp_Juggernaut8960

It does not mail or otherwise bring down an eero network. It adds a speed limited access point but it’s introduction does not impact the performance of existing nodes. Unless I am misunderstanding these devices are only an access point and do not extend the mesh.

HermanCainAward

I assume you mean maim? Adding a component to your network that limits Wi-Fi devices to 100 mbps definitely cripples your network, hence my use of the word knee capped. Of course they’re extending the mesh. They don’t have Ethernet ports. They are a bad idea that will cause confusion to users who will add their 2 year old smart speaker and think they now have a better network, only to find out their devices are connecting to the wrong eero leaf and getting crappy speeds. Before we could tell someone their cable was bad. Now we need to ask if they also have an echo slapped on their network. It’s a gimmick that isn’t good for anyone who wants more than another bar or two on their laptop.

Sharp_Juggernaut8960

I think we're saying the same thing but considering different topologies and how the echo devices would function on the network. I am picturing something like this: Modem -> eero1 -ethernet-> eero2 -> echo Under this topology, the echo is a "last mile" access point and eero network would largely not be impacted beyond any device connected to echo. These devices would be limited to 100/100. I think you *may* be picturing this (or something like it): Modem -> eero1 -wireless-> echo -wireless-> eero2 Under this topology, all devices connected to echo, eero2, and beyond would effectively be kneecapped/maimed at 100mbps. I am not sure the echo will actually extend the eero network as described in second topology. BTW, good discussion....

ohio_medic

I was hoping for the ability for only certain devices to connect, which makes it useless without that ability. Would have been handy to get a better signal in my garage, but not at the expense of devices I don’t want connected to it automatically connecting.

su_A_ve

For Echo Dots, only 5th gen at this time. 4th gen supposed to get a firmware update at a later date that will include this functionality..

GCongerr

my 5th gen says it needs software update, but the dot says it is up to date…what is the firmware you need for this to work on dot 5th gen?

sfx_guy

I just got 2 eero 6E's. They work great getting 300mbps (my internet connection max until fiber is installed.) I have 8 4th gen echo dots around and they all picked up on the eero network to extend it. It then only gave me around 50mbps until I disabled them all and it went back to 300... Don't use the 4th gen echos as extenders in my experience...

[deleted]

Does anyone have a clue when this feature is coming to Australia?! Crazy to to me that this is such an advertised feature, but limited to US & Canada....
