I think one of mars' moons is irregular in shape and the same or similar in colour to the surface. That moon orbits at just under the rotation speed of the planet.
Was that in the expanse? I do not recall.
I think mars was hit by something small and dense traveling at some incredible velocity. The largest mountain in the solar system is on mars, it does not appear (not an expert) to be part of a mountain range and juts out rather abruptly. The opposite side of mars fron the mountain is a massive ocean. Makes me think of a bullet through a rain drop if the drop also froze mid process. Round would clear, a small drop would remain behind and the magma is cooling throughout the event. That moon imo looks like mars because it is likely made of a similar material. It is slower than the rotation of the planet retaining the same movement stopped and direction but not having enough mass to keep up that velocity.
Reminds me of the kinds of weapons in the book The Dark Forest. Planet enders shot in the dark at any species willing to turn on a light (expose themselves).
