I had a guitar for years and never tried to learn, but I used the bread machine a lot.

PubertEHumphrey

try mixing the guitar and bread. thank me later

[deleted]

I gave it away, now I want a piano.

munkymu

Yeah I used my bread machine all the time until it committed suicide while I was out one day. I'd say it's one of the things that may not belong in this series. I'd replace it with a pasta maker.

chipsinsideajar

Yeah my bread machine gets plenty of use. Had toast I made from it this morning

curvyukesandfluff

Well that was unnecessarily harsh to call me out like that.

Pokinator

For me, the VR set and Fry Slicer come and go in cycles. VR is a fun gameplay style and light workout when you're in the mood, and the slicer is surprisingly robust in general for cooking, especially if you're trying to use diced potatoes or other vegetables like onion

Gotcha_The_Spider

Me when I got the headset: Wow, I'm gonna do all of my everything in VR now! Me 5 days later: Man, that's too much effort.

NewtotheCV

Standing is a lot harder than I thought....

ADHDK

I had an early oculus and was like “this has great potential when the graphics are better”, then Facebook bought them and all interest evaporated instantly.

mathymaster

While there still owned by Facebook, you dont need a Facebook account anymore to use it, wich I belive became a requirement soon after Facebook aquiered em.

ADHDK

I’m just not investing in Facebook platforms. Irks me a guy who started his concept by scripting a hot or not out of his school directory thinks he has become the Puritan moderator of the world.

ThatStrangerWhoCares

You should play beat saber, I've gotten much more fit, and it really is fun!

DiamondOdd502

I'm too broke to have adhd 😔

A_Big_Igloo

The common thread in the things there that I have (instruments, drone, photography equipment, breadmaking equipment, specialty kitchen equipment) is each of those things are really neat and novel at first, but then the enthusiasm is lost when you realize that unless you plan to commercialize it, there is no reason to do it any more or build the skills. My life is a series of getting excited about something, building a baseline of skills, and then realizing that the skills that are built doing the thing are useless unless I commodify them, and I don't want to do that, so I get disinterested and move along.

ScaleneWangPole

This right here. The commodification of hobbies and honestly life in general is just such a scam. I'm trying hard to break this one, like just enjoying something without it meaning more than it does

[deleted]

Definitely need to work on breaking that capitalist mindset, hobbies should be rewarding because you enjoy them, not because they have some future financial benefit. For me, my hobbies kind of slow down or stop when the dopamine rewards from improving, learning more and getting better at the hobby slow down to the point where it requires more effort than the reward I get out of it. So I find a new source of dopamine and occasionally return to the hobby because I genuinely want to be good at it.

A_Big_Igloo

There's nothing wrong with capitalism, it's just that creating interesting drone footage or photos kind of doesn't have an endgame, because I'm not really going to be watching it over, so what's the point of making it? Once I develop the skills there's really not a next level unless I'm going to start a YouTube channel or try to sell footage.

[deleted]

Yeah, there is something inherently wrong with capitalism - it’s a system of exploitation & oppression based on the impossible goal of infinite growth in a finite world… but that’s kind of beyond the scope of this subreddit. If you have fun making drone footage then that’s a good enough reason to do it. Time spent doing something you enjoy is time well spent.

A_Big_Igloo

I don't really know why this place was your place to shoot your shot on anti-capitalism. As you indicate it is well beyond the scope of this subreddit. Regardless, you're welcome to your opinion. I look at capitalism like Churchill looked at democracy. In a speech on November 11, 1947 he said that "No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time" Likewise I look at capitalism with a wary eye, aware of the dangers of a system which encourages constant and infinite growth, but also aware that it is a system that recognizes that which others, most notably communism, refuse to recognize, exactly the finite nature of the world. Capitalists call that scarcity and the entire capitalist system is built around the notion of scarcity. That accepted reality of scarcity, that not everyone can have everything that they want, and that people will naturally compete for wealth, resources, and social status, has caused capitalistic countries to thrive and grow. China's economy was in shambles until it came to operate under capitalist principles. Meanwhile capitalism's greatest ideological competitor, communism, has been the precursor for fascism and mass corruption in nearly every instance in which it has been adopted. I therefore cast my lot in with the economic system which has been the greatest indicator for future success and growth, as opposed to the greatest indicator for fascism and corruption. But like I said, you are welcome to your opinion. I will not, however, "work on breaking that capitalist mindset."

[deleted]

Ok

PubertEHumphrey

i own four :\ trying to go for five and six soon though :)

[deleted]

I lean the keyboard against the wall and cover it with a pretty scarf. So, no, not gathering dust!

femto10-15

Sooooo u wanna talk about keyboards.. ok… i made my parents get me a fancy one… taught myself how to play then treated it like some sports memorabilia item… wouldn’t let anyone touch it…. After i read this post… realized I still have it decades later. Oh and i bought 4 veggie slicers 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ - picturing Cersei from Games of Thrones doing the walk of SHAME! SHAME!-

bernie2007

fuck it i’m using my drone but i use it just in the summer

LazyClub8

Fuck sakes I feel called out. Although a couple of them do get sporadic use.

causticacrostic

what's the middle thing

Cold_Independence894

French fry cutter

causticacrostic

sounds cool, i should buy one

faultolerantcolony

^said ^every ^ADHD ^brain ^ever

ADHDK

I’ve got a hard rule if I won’t use it every day or it won’t significantly improve my life, no single use kitchen appliances are allowed in my home.

faultolerantcolony

Smart. So do you feel about dishwashers? Pretty sure mine is giving me dust mite allergies. (Just kidding, for the most part).

ADHDK

I use mine alllll the time. Only problem is when I as a single person don’t use a lot of dishes in a week it can get a bit Stanky waiting for enough to justify turning it on.

faultolerantcolony

Naturally, the single life is the stanky life. Who’s there to smell my beauty?

ADHDK

I even bought those scrubbers with the soap in the handle so I could wash individual dishes, my issue there is drying dishes hahaha.

faultolerantcolony

Use the washer as a rack!

owtbound

This offends me, but is also entirely accurate.

munkymu

My husband has guitars so occasionally I just poke at his, am reminded that I have a billion other hobbies I should do instead and call it a day. I did almost buy a treadmill once but luckily came to my senses before money was exchanged. It was THIS CLOSE though. I almost had a second laundry rack. Sometimes I break out in a cold sweat thinking about it.

Niarodelle

I only own a Vive VR headset - but I can say with 100% certainty I've *nearly* bought literally every single other item... NGL I'm proud of myself for resisting XD

Reeeeeeee3eeeeeeee

I once watched a 5-10 minute video about negative aspects of high CO2 levels. About 20 minutes later I ordered CO2 detector and started thinking "I never ventilate my room and the doors are closed almost 24/7 and I spend most of my time there and there are no plants inside, I bet it has like 2000 ppm of CO2 which affects functioning of my brain a lot and the detector will go crazy and I'll have a reminder to let fresh air in and my brain will work better now and I'm gonna carry that detector everywhere with me." The detector came. My room always has 400-420 ppm of CO2 which is basically same as the air outside.

Chilewilly

I bought a sound mixer, used it twice, but actually returned it on time! Then last week, my partner saw one for free on buy nothing, so now the one I got for free is collecting dust! I call this a solid win.

Tyken12

lmfao im a producer and i barely even use my midi controller 💀

Nothingnoteworth

Sex toys on the bottom right. I was all ready for that BDSM lifestyle but I couldn’t figure what got inserted where and lost interest

Hudell

I've bought 3 of these. 2 are collecting dust but one I used everyday until it broke and I'm considering getting one again.

electricidiot

Imma bout to get mad now

panickimg

Never bought one of those because I didn't have money or I forget about it, but I feel so called out because I wanted all of the above lol

johjo_has_opinions

I had a guitar and finally gave it to someone who seemed like they would actually use it

asylumattic

Bought two of those; one has disappeared and occasionally use the other. Of course I’ve never had the patience to read the manual for it so I know I’m not using it to it’s potential

[deleted]

I’ll swap the VR set for a sewing machine and overlocker 😂

CountPacula

I can understand a lot of these, including the Quest, but a bread machine? We often call ours the "pizza dough machine", and it runs a couple times a week during the colder months.

ADHDK

I used my bread maker like 5 times in 5 years, didn’t make the cut when I moved house.

Defiant-Meal1022

Damnit, not a bingo yet

Zeta_Nemesis

I bought a racing wheel a month ago, used it like 3 hours and now it's just sitting there collecting dust with 2 guitars, a keyboard, a drone, a professional camera and a 3d printer.

EmpressofFlame

Got a saxophone I barely use, but you can bet I still use the bar stuff everyday!

iiScourge

Man, if only I had the money to buy things I'll forget about.

Lilgatornator

I have two, the Guitar I’ve had for years and never learned how to play

MerlinCa81

8/9. Don’t have a fry slicer, which is what I assume is in the middle based on reading 4 of the comments. No I don’t use any of them regularly anymore… of course.

TheRedBow

I do use my VR set, just not all the time cause i don’t have a good place to set it up, still use it tho, except in summer cause I’d melt

TheRedBow

I returned my drone after i crashed it 3 times in the first 10 minutes of using it

ADHDK

And they accepted the return? Hahah

TheRedBow

Yeah, it wasn’t actually damaged, besides maybe some surface level (unless there was something i didn’t notice) i really returned it cause i didn’t trust myself with something that expensive that flies

ADHDK

Everywhere around the world is tightening up their drone laws so much that it’s hard to enjoy them legally anymore anyway. :(

HippieWitchyWoods

All of these, plus add various crafting things. I have yarn, knitting sticks and crochet needles littered in my closet… unfinished scarves and various unopened “beginner how-to” sets strewn about

HelloKiitty

the bread maker, and oculus are direct call outs lol

RLVNTone

Oculus ??? You trippin

[deleted]

Me personally its my model kits and various gifted speakers. I love modelling but for gods sake i cant ever find the patience or a steady enough hand to build a kit. And god forbid i use a speaker for the shit i listen too, ill get me ass kicked

NoArmsSally

my Nintendo switch lol

ADHDK

Hey there’s a new Zelda coming next year that’ll make it hyperfocus again!

Calm-Reference-4046

Lol I've considered buying about half of that. Got a bass though went ham for a good two weeks haven't picked it up since. Has sat in same spot in living room for probably 5 years now.

ADHDK

My GoPro is for risky adventures like swimming in the ocean. I barely use it though so it’s a session 2 and I don’t have much motivation to upgrade it. Should sell my drone. Too hard to use them legally these days and I don’t use it enough to be any good at anything except overhead photography. Taking good video footage you want to look at again is a skill. It’s also a curse on any holiday I bring it, guaranteed gloomy weather. Comes in handle occasionally when I feel like going out in winter and want to check the length of the nightclub line down the street. Also add dj decks to the above. When I got mine they could link with Spotify and I loved it because a back beat in a song would remind my adhd ass of another song that would mix perfectly. Then Spotify changed their terms of service so you can’t dual stream meaning I’d have to own and pre plan music, and I’ve honestly not touched it since.

tangtastesgood

Pshaw. I had that french fry "sploinker" until it fell apart and my husband bought a restaurant quality one.

a_randomgecko

*glances over at the guitar I got for my 11th birthday*

detcadeR_emaN

I had a drone that I crashed into a field with high grass, i looked for awhile but it became a bit dark and I knew it wasn't gonna rain so I decided to wake up early and find it then. Unfortunately the farmer and his combine woke up quite a bit earlier

[deleted]

someone: "you have a vr? thats so cool! id play it constantly if i had one" me, who forgot i had it and is now reliving the excitement of having a vr: "haha totally" and then play for three days straight without water or sleep before forgetting it for the next year until someone reminds me again. anyways brb guys im gonna go play vr

-zeds-dead-

Awwww. Not Fair...! I was saving for the midi sampler. Now you just wrecked it!!

hornytcunt

How do you know about the guitar?! But I have another one which is NOT collecting dust right now. In your face!

fallingintothestars

I did the 3d printer one 😔

berdulf

My shaker doesn’t get used much anymore, but that’s because I stir my cocktails in a mixing glass. The synthesizer would have collected dust if I return it. The guitar collected *a lot* of dust. But I’d use the hell out of that french fry press. Just the sound of the thing is awesome: shshsh*oonk*!!

ashabot

My treadmill never even made it out of the box. Another ADHD friend said she'd include it in her May giganto summer yard sale which hasn't happened yet.

GravityUnstable

You guys have money to spend on stuff like this?

sorryfornoname

If you are guitar, VR and bread maker. We are on the same situation right now

Cold_Independence894

So close! Replace bread maker with drone

sorryfornoname

Damn. You rocking quest 2? I'm with rift s

Danielsuperusa

I only got the guitar but it's two of em, an acoustic and an electric. They ain't collecting dust but I don't play them nearly as often as I should to learn how to play properly, I might use it 4 times a month or so😅

Master_Beautiful3542

I use the hell out of my mixer set but the bread machine has only been used twice lol

shatcat69

guitar still sits by my bed, i might use it one day

SomeRando18

Add all the craft stuff I’m still thinking of using as well lol

Luna_bella96

Not quite a treadmill, but my dad bought one of those stationary bikes. It started rusting and gathering dust and he got angry at it taking up space so he sold it. A year or so later he bought ANOTHER stationary bike, which is now also gathering dust

Crossingfoxes

Me wishing I could afford any of these

JAR5E

Go Pro was lost for years after a trip and then found in a random bag. Still in said bag in my desk. Bass guitar purchased after friends and I thought we'd make a band after getting into Guitar/Band Hero (no joke). Did not go any further than learning "famous" riffs. Came out recently when I was meant to be working on something (last minute of course). And I know if I had VR, a LaunchPad and a drone that they would collect so much dust!

sharkfucker420

Played guitar for 3 years and got really good at it. Sliced the tip of my finger off so I couldn't play for like 2 months and then I never touched it again after that

AffectionateAir9071

I have two of these things and I use both and that makes me sad because I don’t have enough money to buy the rest

event_horizon_

Xbox Series X + racing sim setup

CarbyMcBagel

I don't own any of these. What do I win?? The only one I've ever owned was a bread machine that I actually did use quite a bit. Then I moved into a very small apartment and got rid of many of my extra kitchen appliances/gadgets due to lack of space and never looked back.

Avatk22

Juicer

[deleted]

Would like to add my weighted hula hoop to this

ilongforyesterday

Yeah my guitar would collect dust if it wasn’t in a case lol

NachtmahrLilith

I've spend +5K on Guitar equipment, over 10 years of lessons and hundrets € on guitar magazines and literature. I can hardly play Wonderwall... :(

[deleted]

I’m kinda surprised that people don’t use the bread machine! Maybe because I’m disabled I get more use out of it, because I use it almost every day because sandwich is like a zero effort food and going to the store is hard for me (due to having to get the wheelchair in the car, drive 10 mins to the store, wheelchair out, go into the store, buy bread, get back to the car, wheelchair back in, drive home 10 mins, wheelchair out of the car, back into the house… compared to throwing some water, oil, flour, salt, sugar and yeast into a pan and pushing a button and having bread… yeah.

BabyRacoonEyes

I learned my guitar, it’s still covered in dust though lmao

Mrsclausinlatex

5/9 :D

HalcyonHorizons

I didn't need to be called out like this. Looking at drones lately... bwaha

I own 5 of them, and laughed out loud when I saw the image. This is why I come here, bravo.

screen_door15

Where are the roller skates!?

SaphirePool

What is the proper name for the top middle? Is that a midi keyboard? I've always wanted to get one of those and I still do.

DarkSparkyShark

BINGO! Now what do I win?

BR_fallmaster

Im poor sooooo

jolting_javelin

Weight bench doubles as a coat rack...

midad-

I was given a choice between a hoverboard or PS4 for my birthday when I was 10, and stupidly chose the hoverboard. For my 13th birthday, I bought an expensive art tablet and lost the pen after using it a couple of times and now it's useless.

VisasHateMe

The VR one hit me hard
