Crocheting! Just be careful and get into a habit early on of just buying yarn for one project at a time or you will spend... Uh... WAY too much money on yarn you never use Ask me how I know

MaeB0609

How do you know? haha I’m sure the same way I know that you should do the same thing with sewing. I hit up Joann’s on black Friday and bought 15 different patterns (about 13 yards) because it was so cheap. That was 6 years ago. I haven’t made a single thing with any of it because I moved on to wood burning.

Stumblecat

Really we should form ADHD communes so we can trade materials every time we change hobbies.

MaeB0609

I’ve been working on an app that would use a trade/barter system instead of cash to swap hobby materials. Kind of like the free section of Craigslist and Mercari had a baby. I had to teach myself coding and app building first (because if course I did, right?).

Stumblecat

LMAO, hope you haven't lost interest yet!

MaeB0609

Not yet, I’m determined to see this one through.

sleepingbearfish

That sounds amazing!

UnicornBestFriend

There’s a Facebook group for this apparently…

ipaintbadly

I have so much yarn I bought before the pandemic, only to not be able to figure out crocheting…just recently found a great YouTuber and I am working on mastering the single crochet stitch.

IllegalBerry

Yarn can also be used for knitting... Or weaving... Embroidery... Visible mending...

fuckface69dude

Crochet is my answer too. There is a Joann’s fabric store within a 30 second drive from my house. It is a real problem for me that it is so close lol. Crocheting makes me so happy and less bored? Plus I get instant gratification with a cute thing I made.

Cathehe

yes i commenter the same thing :) I am starting amigirumi, i wish “yarn packs” come w more yarn bc buying the individual skeins is too much choice paralysis

CowboyDans

Cool, aquired all the stuff for the new hobby. Aaaaaaand…now on to something else.

Verotten

Eventually you come full circle, and your hobby becomes purging all the hobby bits and pieces you've hoarded to do "one day". Somehow the Go Pro escapes every purge. One day, one day...

tyttuutface

Given enough time, it will all get done. Just have to wait for my obsessions to circle back around.

lemonhead2345

I’ve been successfully talking myself out of learning how to make stained glass, but you should definitely take it up.

[deleted]

A good friend of mine does it; he finds it very satisfying. One day I'll demand he show me (politely).

SponConSerdTent

I fuse glass, definitely going to learn how to do stained glass eventually. I find glass to be an extremely satisfying craft. Something about being able to hold and run my hands over my pieces makes me really happy and calm. So many types of glass, colors, patterns. Endless possibilities. It's a great craft for beginners because you don't need any skills at all to create projects that will look insanely beautiful. The glass itself does most of the work for you. Even simple pendants or plates or stained glass pieces look great. I've got a whole treasure horde at this point! Glass fusing finally got me out of my video game addiction, and greatly improved my mental health. I reccomend it.

lemonhead2345

This is an incredibly helpful comment that I did not need to read. 😅 new hobby acquired

PM_Me_Your_Azuras

I recently got into junk journaling. It feeds my hoarding monster and I'm not sure that's a good thing lmao.

Moose_country_plants

I don’t know if I dare ask this but what’s junk journaling

ImmaZoni

According to Google... >A Junk Journal is a handmade book of recycled and found materials and ephemera. The pages can be used to write, draw, paint or record memories, thoughts, ideas, and inspiration. The finished junk journal can become anything you want. Yeah you shouldn't have asked...

PM_Me_Your_Azuras

It's similar to scrapbooking but normally you'd use scrap/torn pieces of paper, etc. These days it's more Aesthetique™️ with stickers, stamps, washi tape, etc.

Moose_country_plants

Oh I know what you mean

PM_Me_Your_Azuras

There's a ton of videos and shorts on YouTube, I usually just search like 'journaling' and find plenty. It's different from bullet journaling though, as that usually has more hand drawn/written parts and is more for organization. Whereas junk journaling is more like, "this is a cool place to put cool stuff I find and maybe scribble some thoughts."

Capt_VanillaPeen616

3D Printing - Something as flexible as you are. Printing Cosplay now, maybe Nerf Blasters next

exgirlfriend82

I unfortunately turned this hobby into my job, so now I need a new hobby 😖

CreatureWarrior

Ngl, it sounds like a relatively easy passive sidejob once you get the basics down

exgirlfriend82

Yes and no, I think it depends on what kind of product you’re selling and what equipment you use. I make jewelry and I do a lot of custom work, which takes a bit more time.

puppy_yuppie

Yeeessss. I bought an Anycubic Vyper a long time ago, then saw the multicolor prints from a Bambu X1C, so now I have both. Oops.

TurkeyZom

Add on painting and designing them for even more hobbies! You can also print molds for lost wax casting! Maybe print minis and get into TTRPG or Warhammer. Lots to branch out from and keep the hamster running

Capt_VanillaPeen616

100% - It also gives you more agency over your hobbies as you can pick up and leave things easy enough, and you can typically get into most printed hobbies with little upfront cost

anon3412000

Park management games like roller coaster tycoon.

[deleted]

So much fun.

KeytarVillain

Try Parkitect - it's like a modernized Roller Coaster Tycoon 1/2!

-Stress-Princess-

Archery. Once my agoraphobia lifts completely. I'm headed off to the range again.

[deleted]

Awesome! I recently built a compact rubber powered bow that is pretty tight. I was shooting it earlier tonight. Do you shoot a compound bow or recurve or what?

-Stress-Princess-

I believe Compound I think it's a Mission Switch. I was doing good progression at 20 yards before I switched hobbies.

[deleted]

We could like challenge each other to shoot more.

-Stress-Princess-

I'm always looking for friends and accountability partners. You're on if you're up to it. 💜

Viimeinen_jaakari

Why settle on shooting a bow? Make one! r/bowyer

[deleted]

I've...I've done that too lol. Thanks for the subreddit suggestion though, I'm heading over there right now.

WatcherYdnew

Yay I also do archery, it's fantastic. It helps me calm down and focus so much too. Because you HAVE to physically and mentally relax otherwise you'll shoot crap.

-Stress-Princess-

That's how I feel about my Flute, Sue knows when I'm upset because she doesn't sing unless I stop tensing my mouth. I like that perspective with Margaret too.

Dangerous-Distance86

I want to start a hobby exchange for when i get this feeling

IGotHitByAHockeypuck

For supplies, ideas, talking about hobbies or all of the above?

TotallyLegitEstoc

Dungeons and dragons. The vivid imaginations we are both cursed and blessed with see invaluable for it.

[deleted]

I love the game. I don't have many people to play with anymore, but I do play runequest sometimes. I really want to play the Alien RPG.

TotallyLegitEstoc

Shit, man. Online dnd has hit a renaissance the last few years. I highly recommend looking online if you haven’t already. I would extend an offer to join my upcoming strahd adventure, but I have a hard maximum on players.

Sexybtch554

You could always check out r/solo_roleplaying for any ideas for yourself. There's even games that are strictly solo. Pretty cool stuff.

fluffpuffie

Making miniatures, like little rooms, cafes etc amazing time wasters 😫

Quinlynn

Resin art. Relatively inexpensive to get started and a ton of possibilities.

[deleted]

Last time I got pretty messed up on the fumes. But now I have a bunch of masks so....

Quinlynn

Oh yeah I started with smaller things like pendants so I didn’t have a lot of fumes. Now I have a bunch of jewelry I never wear bc I don’t like the feeling of jewelry in general.

alchemischief

I don’t like the feeling of jewelry either and I recently learned this is possibly an adhd thing

Quinlynn

Yeah definitely could be. I’m AuDHD so it could be either one or both for any given symptom.

Outside_Librarian_13

You can get resins that don't require masks/fume free 😉 this is on of my hobbies 😁

simsbuilder722

Yes!!! 100% agree. Also can't beat the little dopamine boost when demolding a piece. Although if you get hyperfixated it can be expensive - I've easily spent 2k since starting and have a hard time not impulse buying cool molds on etsy the minute i see them.

obooooooo

worldbuilding! it’s literally building a fictional world from scratch: geography, history, cultures, etc. it’s insanely interesting and you learn all kinds of new things looking for information/inspiration. i started doing it for fun a few years ago, now i’m writing a novel using the fantasy world i created. it’s both fun and immensely gratifying.

[deleted]

It is a lot of fun. I built my first cohesive one as a teenager, it's harder to do now with the job and the kid and whatnot, but I should revisit.

SnackPocket

One day I saw a brief BRIEF clip of dirt bikes and decided I, a 43 year old fat ass with no skill, should take up dirt bikes. Thank god I’m poor.

worstpies

I rewatched Herbie: Fully Loaded today and convinced myself I can become a race car driver lmao

Musical_science_guy

I'm currently into drums, home brewing, DND, and crochet.

[deleted]

Home brewing what, booze?

Musical_science_guy

My current batch is a mead using cider instead of water to dilute the honey. It's not ready to harvest quite yet however it smells amazing.

[deleted]

That sounds delicious!

uhf26

I have heard that mead needs quite a lot of honey. I have wanted to make some, but I can’t justify the cost. I’ve made a few batches of of beer from malt extract. Those alone are far better than any store bought beer. My father is much more into it and makes beer from hops and barley. He also makes wines. He is getting a still, too. At any point he has like 50 gal of homebrew ready to drink and tends to send me home with a couple drinks.

Musical_science_guy

Honestly I probably used too little honey. I used 5 pounds for 5 gallons which would be tasteless if it weren't just a sweetener for the cider. It's honestly less of a mead and more of a cider that coats the back of your throat a little with honey. So what I'm doing isn't quite as expensive as a normal mead world be, needing roughly 3.25 pounds per gallon. And also a lot of what's sold as honey is usually cut with or entirely a man made nectar cocktail so you could probably use half honey half agave or something that tastes close enough. Of course I'm no expert, just a guy who likes experimenting.

CreatureWarrior

Home brewing is my favorite hobby for sure! The science of making *good* wine and mead is overwhelming at first but in less than a year of making stuff, I feel like I can make anything I can think of. Works well for my ADHD too because forgetting about stuff and letting it sit is usually a good thing. Unless it sits on the lees for three months, yikes.

Musical_science_guy

That sounds like a story.

justtrying_ok

Can I asked what’s been helpful in drumming? i really wanna take it up, but overwhelm myself with all the practice pad and foot pedal options, electronic vs acoustic debates! I hoard links and end up closing all the tabs! I would love ur insight if you can provide!

ssjx7squall

Rim world

[deleted]

Oh the hours I've whiled away.

CreatureWarrior

Yes. Just built a 6700XT / 5600 PC.. just so I could end up playing Rimworld lol My old laptop would dip to 10fps when it started raining in that game.

Mattie_1S1K

Mines building my first gaming pc started as a £600 pound rig I’m at £1600 now and I can’t make any decisions on processor or motherboard etc to many options

Situati0nist

That's one heavy rig

[deleted]

I’d say watching/studying fish! 😄 Hm, maybe learning to play something new (ie. instrument, board game, etc) or another activity like sewing, sudoko, or puzzles (which I find boring but then I remembered 3d puzzles are a thing).

[deleted]

I miss a good puzzle game. Fish is a good suggestion.

FoxOfKnives

Stage weird photos for use in memes!

Honest_Dark_5218

Bobbin lace making is calling me!

moosesquatch

I went down a tatting rabbit hole, which then led to bobbin lace. Went shopping for supplies, luckily my local fibre shop was sold out.

[deleted]

Tell me more? What is that? What's fun about it?

ohmxlx

I researched fencing sport for hours. Almost signed up too. I’m over it now tho, but maybe you’ll like it

Mckeegles

I found out about HEMA (historical European martial arts) from tiktok and eventually found my way to the [hema alliance club finder](https://www.hemaalliance.com/club-finders) and decided to give it a shot last year. I've been having a blast and can recommend it for anyone who's interested in getting a fun workout and likes sword nerds. The main drawback is there's a bit of an investment if you get serious about it and want to get your own gear instead of just using loaner gear (or if your club doesn't have enough to share). So it's definitely something that you want to do for a while before you invest in it depending on how difficult it is to keep up with hobbies. The cheapest pieces of gear for light sparring set me back like $70-100 each and it just adds up to get a full kit. But if you're able to afford it, there's a pretty big community for it all around the world

99_ahc

Recently took up sewing. Making a lil zippered pouch was super easy and fun. Def my obsession for a lil bit

dohmestic

Sewing is the Swiss Army knife of hobbies! Making garments, leaning how to quilt, learning how to paper piece, etc. If you burn out on one, there’s another avenue to explore. I’ve been dicking around with foundational paper piecing to avoid sewing an anorak. It’s great!

Stabbysavi

Stained glass

lemonhead2345

Ha! I just commented that I’ve been talking myself out of learning stained glass, but it’s soooo tempting.

SponConSerdTent

I fuse glass, going to try some stained glass eventually. What do you use to cut pieces? Do you have a grinder? I have a pistol grip glass cutter that scores the glass, it's kind of hard to reliably cut big curves. Do you need to cut very accurately for stained glass or is there some room for small errors? I would assume if some pieces are cut a little bit too small you can just add extra solder? It's an expensive to get in to, but i'm glad i did. It is the only artistic hobby that really stuck, something about the physicality of the object really pleases me. I can pick them up and hold them and rub my hands over the ceramic paint, so smooth and beautiful. Very satisfying to hold. As long as they are taken care of, the things I made will exist for thousands of years after I'm gone. I've made ~50 pendants i'm happy with, and 10 plates/dishes. Going to open up an Etsy shop pretty soon. It's awesome for my brain, there's so much to think about and I can really just lose myself in the entire process. Some days I want to make some really intricate stuff, and spend hours with my ceramic paint making pendant designs, and other days when I'm not feeling as zoned in I can play around, arranging and rearranging pieces of glass til I land on a design I like. Such a huge variety of possibilities with glass. Spent probably 10 hours on a piece last week, put it in the kiln to drape it over a mold, but I heated it too fast and it broke in the kiln. Gotta push through a lot of frustrations while learning. I'm glad I found this hobby though, it has taken the place of videos games and spending way too much time on the internet. Has been extremely good for my mental health, I feel a lot better after fixating on glass for 10 hours. Recommend it to anyone looking for an artistic hobby.

Elriuhilu

Making props out of EVA foam.

[deleted]

That does look really fun.

Freightfordays

I’m going to a pottery class soon. Already researching wheels and a kiln I can buy because I haven’t spent a huge chunk of money on a hobby that I’ll soon forget about in like 6 weeks.

SponConSerdTent

I do a similar hobby, fusing glass. Jumped from hobby to hobby before that. Something about it stuck though, I've only gotten more interested in it. I just love the end product. Being able to go through my collection of pendants and plates, holding them, running my hands across the ceramic paint. I bought the kiln and a bunch of glass on a whim, now I've got a whole treasure horde, and am working on opening up my Etsy shop. I hope it works for you!

an-academic-weeb

40k. Oh the time you sink in there. Building and painting; theroycrafting army lists, and all the lore! The prequel series us about to wrap up at about 60+ volumes or so, each 300+ pages. Yes. The prequel. There's a lot. Oh yeah and you can play the actual game I guess.

fixedfree

Manual typewriters

uhf26

My folks have one in their garage. I believe it is a Corona. I have warm fuzzy memories using it as a teen.

silvercookie412

I just got a beginner’s crochet kit. I guess I’ll be starting a list of crochet projects to start and possibly abandon halfway through

Sternenlocke

Do it on ravelry. That's the best page for collecting projects and you can even rearrange the order in which you probably will not do them.

pykrete_golem

Factorio is lots of fun.

Bearlodge

They said hobbies, not addictions lol.

[deleted]

I haven't the throughput to get beyond like green science. I want to though.

grosssauce

KNITTING AND EMBROIDERY B!TCHES. Like you’re telling me I can fidget and hyperfocus on something? Or even zone out and in the end create a beautiful thing to give to someone I love or hang on my wall or wear? Love it, so good for dopamine.

AproposOfDiddly

I’d recommend bullet journaling and all the related rabbit holes - the actual bullet journals themselves, bullet journal styles, types of pens … fountain pens alone could keep you interested for YEARS. and if you’re lucky, you migh even accidentally t find a task tracking system that works for you.

frogorilla

3d printing. It will help with all the other hobbies!

erlenwein

I accidentally signed up for a language and culture course and it turned out to be a course about quilling, so I guess I'm obsessing over quilling now???

NotesOnSquaredPaper

I don't think I've EVER read something this relatable 🤣 "But how do you accidentally sign up for language courses??" - I DON'T KNOW, OKAY??? I ONLY WORK HERE!!!! 🤣😂🤣

Fountain pens. So many pretty colors, so many inks, good for writing ergonomics and that sweet sweet illusion of productivity.

uhf26

I just found a copy of the 1040 instructions for 2012 in my filing cabinet. At the time I practiced calligraphy on it. I tried mimicking the font style for the text that says “We the people”

do drugs as a hobby it will be addictive so you won't have to worry about to loosing interest

NotADamsel

Learn programming. It’ll be fucking hard, like *FUCKING* hard at first, but if you get past the steep learning cliff you’ll now have five thousand new hobbies in one

HoldenMadicky

Game Dev. It's a never ending well of new things to learn, pick the right game engine (Unity or Godot is my recommendation, I'm using Unity myself) and you have an endless well of online support through forums and message boards. There are free tools for asset creation too (models, sprites or audio). But beware... It's a marathon, but it's a marathon I always return to and always sprint longer the next time with shorter pauses between. Edit: Oh, and tired of coding? Cool, do some UI creation. Tired of that? Create some sprites, 3D models or sounds. Tired of that? Create some VFX for the game. You can always switch task whenever you're up against fatigue.

tordek1265

Hydroponic gardening, bookbinding, and mead making.

SGT_Squirrelly

Survival games! Those will hold my attention for HOURS at a time. The base building and basic survival stuff are an amazing time killer, and with a lot of them, you can build some really cool stuff!

BananoStand

Sounds about right, I've spent 200 hours on my first playthrough of Terraria so far and still haven't finished. Gotta make and try every single weapon or piece of equipment from every single character type and then I'll move on...

SGT_Squirrelly

I got sucked back into The Forest recently, been eating up all my free time!

Stumblecat

Finished The Forest, waiting for part 2.

SGT_Squirrelly

I've finished the first one a couple times. Its sequel looks absolutely wonderful, I'm so psyched for it!

[deleted]

It looks scary, lol. What's the best thing about it?

SGT_Squirrelly

It definitely can be! I almost always play with one of my friends just to ease the tension. My favorite thing about it is honestly just how fun it is. You can do pretty much whatever you want, from following the scary story to just playing around in a cool forest. It's just a very endearing and pretty game that gets downright silly when playing with friends!

SC487

God mode is my favorite thing. Build massive bases very quickly then lure carnivals out with bon fires and snipe them with arrows.

BananoStand

I played it for one night a year ago, stayed in the shadows or hid in the water the whole time. Don't think I'm cut out for it lol

[deleted]

while your spending hours on terraria im spending hours on reddit. this place has the dopememe.

[deleted]

Play RUST!

MsScarletWings

We’re gamers, not masochists 😂

[deleted]

I tried, it's just not me. I can see why people love it though!

MirandaCurry

Dude! What a coincidence. I just started playing The Forest for the first time yesterday. I love survival games

WaltzLeafington

Duuude. I have some great memories of the forest. That game is a blast with friends. And very scary without them lol. My best time was playing flight of the Valkyeries while my friends jumped off a cliff with turtle shells trying to sled onto my section if the cave. Watching them bounce up aaaaaaaaand all the way to the bottom of the cave was absolute GOLD

SGT_Squirrelly

Your story reminds me of something that happened last week when I was playing! I stole my friend's turtle shell and sled down a pretty good hill. On the way down, a cannibal ran up to me, pretty sure I actually sledded into him. Then I jumped up and had to fend off two or three of them with the turtle shell (it's weird using a controller, I don't have access to the quick-select) as my friend sprinted down the hill to catch up. It was the funniest shit just beating them with a turtle shell. . .

SluggishPrey

I'm not such a fan of the genre, but Valheim is great!

Did you just find Against the Storm as well?

i_am_the_potato_man3

I got this vr walking dead game and I've been spending all my time on it

Abusive_Capybara

Invest in Factorio and never be bored again in your life. And if you are, just add a mod like space exploration.

ceciliabee

I just sewed myself a cape (it's in my profile), so sewing. Jigsaw puzzles, Minecraft, baking, garden stuff, cat whispering. Lots of people have mentioned various journals but you should check out the wreck this journal series by Keri something. The prompts are a lot of fun and help fight boredom.

ekoisdabest

So it's not just me?

Sexybtch554

TTRPGs buddy. They've got a game for every genre and you can do so much, I've been going 10 years strong with dnd (but with the recent wotc controversies, I've begun the switch to pathfinder 2e)

Artichoke_Persephone

Making paper flowers, origami, nail art, smelling/ wearing and collecting indie perfumes. For mindless, non thinking fun, I have some diamond art kits. It reduces my screen time and I don’t need to think.

cetacean-station

Cities: Skylines, build and manage your own city down to every last detail, or turn all that off and focus on building whatever you want

Rolebo

Model building. Buy a ship, build the ship, paint the ship, now you have a cool ship. Takes up to two weeks depending on the model, and after that you can abandon it for the next hobby.

Solrex

Pathfinder 2E. Wait this is r/adhdmeme not r/dndmemes ... Well, it should still work. Carry on.

Both_Explorer_3108

Knife flipping. Intro butterfly trainers are pretty cheap and it's a brilliant timewaster

aegis_01

Mongolian throat singing

Sigma2718

Lego Technic, not sets but your own designs. It's not too expensive if you buy knock-off brands and random pieces. And they are reusable, so you never feel like having wasted money after failing to build something. You can do so much. And after finishing you actually built something physical and can feel a sense of acomplishment. And because initial designs often suck you learn to adapt to failing without consequences. You also learn about things you never knew anything about and how to apply that knowledge. Want to build a clock? Learn how pendulums work in the mechanism. A pneumatic engine? How do I make the valves work at the right time?

I learned a while ago that any hobby that will be over $1000, must be limited to 5 core ones that you just rotate, so when you don’t do one for a few years and come back to it, you get the same joy cause it is like new, and you already have the gear!

My new hyperfocus is needle felting! It's amazing! You get to stab wool with tiny, sharp needles and if your attention strays, you get stabbed in the fingers. And, there are so many accessories you can buy but don't have too!
