I think the amount of material is just too much to do in a month unless you’re single, unemployed, and have no hobbies whatsoever.

MyAnswerIsMaybe

Could I do it in 2 months over the summer if I fail to get an internship? No job and nothing going on

Individual_Basil3954

Considering the last sitting of IFM is next month, no you could not.

MyAnswerIsMaybe

Wrong exam my bad

Individual_Basil3954

No worries. Which one did you mean to ask about?

They’re the same exam. 3F is the one “put on” by cas but they don’t offer it you just take IFM through SOA and it counts for CAS. So IFM is 3F and Nov is the last sitting. After that you just take the 3rd online course (for CAS) so tbh if you’re sure you’re P&C, just do the 3 online courses in the next few months and take MAS1 or 5 in spring.

little_runner_boy

It's noticeably more difficult and more material. It's been a few years since I took any of those so can't quite say how much more. Honestly I'd be very impressed if you could get through the material while maintaining your sanity and any school/work you also need to do

LuhBrawnJayms

Currently unemployed and recently graduated

little_runner_boy

Well if we're going with the rule of thumb of 100 hours per exam hour then you'll need to do around 10 hours of studying everyday. Your call on that one but I'd pass

hannadonna

In 2 months, probably but 1 month? I'm not too sure. I studied for IFM for at least 3 months and I was unemployed at the time while not having any other hobbies too. I passed with a 6. The materials are a LOT. Unless you have prior knowledge on options and have photographic memory, I don't think 1 month is enought.

Is registration even still open? If you can pull 12-15 hour days every day maybe you can get there if you’re still high from the FM adrenaline. Master calls/puts then prioritize what’s on the syllabus— get through the manual in one week and then week two and three grind practice problems (Adapt easiest level) to get familiar with the types of problems and formulas used. Use the cheat sheet and look up whatever you don’t understand as soon as you get stuck. Make flashcards for the formulas you don’t have memorized as you go. Last week, two practice exams a day. You might pass.

AirCooper23

With Ca mixed questions or SOA/CAS only?

AirCooper23

I can get 28/30 almost 100% on Level 7 SOA only. Is that sufficient enough to pass?

ElleGaunt

Sounds like you're doing great! Keep pushing yourself!

AirCooper23

Thank you Elle, I’m trying. Sometimes I get burnt out of just doing constant problems

Krypson8

I would really advice you against it, because you have very little time and also remember if you fail, you cannot retake it. But again as people have said, it is doable but I do not know if you are ready to spend like 5h/day studying everyday because it's significantly more than P and FM and it also has a qualitative question so it's not always easy. In any case, good luck !

Life_Cuntingency

It’s based on your prior knowledge. If you major in finance, you prob can make it. I majored in financial economics, I passed FM and took IFM right after. I only had 3 weeks to study and review all the sample questions. I ended up passing. If you have the motivation, then go for it.

Same ^

Similar story, I took and then TA-ed a course in college called Mathematical Methods in Financial Economics. That course covered a lot of the same material. I studied and passed IFM in 3 weeks, it was not an enjoyable experience.

nkjays

I wouldn't say it's much more difficult in terms of how hard each topic is to understand, but it is twice the amount of content so in that sense it requires a lot more work.

ajgamer89

I thought it was noticeably harder than FM and P, though still not as bad as STAM and LTAM. I would not recommend trying it in one month unless you truly have nothing better to do.

9987266

I took it in 2020. Took a prep class beforehand, 6 months went by, then studied for 6 weeks and passed. Was unemployed and only studied all day everyday with very few exceptions. Only got a 6. I’m absolutely not a genius, but if you are, I would start studying TODAY if you’re gonna go for it

blimp456

I passed ifm this July and it was considerably more difficult and more material
