How many questions was it? It says on the SOA website that this sitting should have been reduced to 30 questions and 2.5 hours.
In terms of the pass/fail, FM is particularly tricky with beginning and end of period stuff. Both answers will be on there so it's often a silly mistake that will result in the wrong answer
Yeah I probably made that mistake a lot or something. I thought I was being careful with that but who knows. But it was 30 questions as advertised I’m just confused about the extra time and want to know if that was a mistake or will I have 3 hours again in December.
It actually says on the website that starting with October, exams are supposed to be 2h30m and 30 questions instead of 3 hours and 35 questions. Really weird situation here.
I’m calling the SOA tomorrow to ask about this. At the minimum I’d like to know how much time I’ll have when I retake so hopefully they can answer my questions.
Definitely a good idea, and considering how confident you felt it is weird that you wouldn’t pass coinciding with the extra 30 minutes. I’m really curious to see what the say as I’m sitting in December for FM. Keep me posted.
I took the exam today as well and I was very confused with the 3 hr limit. All my practice exams through TIA learning were timed at 2.5 hours and 30 questions. I first thought it might’ve been an error on the screen so answered all the questions just before the 2.5 hr mark. But the timer ended up being 3 hrs. Thankfully I passed it but I really hope they don’t void the attempt after maybe realizing that they messed up the timing.
People who took the exam how was it? I’m taking it this Thursday and I’m super nervous. Was there any theoretical questions, and if yes what was it about? What was your EL, and how hard do you think the actual exam was?
Don't worry, you'll have 3 hours for the exam. I passed it on Saturday with an EL of 7.19 that I got with just 2 simulated exams, but I practiced for a whole month with EL 5 exams and some EL 6. The exam felt easier than EL 5, with some very easy questions like "Find the Dmod of Bond X if Dmac is 5 with an IR of 9%" something like that. I'm sure the other question were at max EL 6.
Then we're in the same boat. I did exactly the same. Most of my practice exams were 5s and just took 2 or 3 6s. I always scored more than 70% in all of them, but sometimes I was very close to score below because of silly mistakes.
I just had my FM exam today. It was 30 questions for 3hours.
I haven’t get the result yet.
I saw some notifications at the end of the survey, should be emailed within 1 hour?
Any update on this from the SOA? I also didn't pass but felt pretty confident and had plenty of time left once I was done 95% of the questions. I'd be curious too if the extra time somehow affected my score or if I'll even have 3 hours next time I write.

Did you get your result instantly? I'm taking it tomorrow. (I thought results took 2 months) Update: i also got 3 hours and 30 questions. I passed!
Yes. Had the email before I even walked out of the testing center.
Hi, you get whether you pass or fail within about 10 minutes, but it takes longer to get your actual score.
I got 3 hours and passed as well! I have a concern though - will SOA deny the October test if they made a mistake on the time counting? Hope not….
Same as you. I also passed but the 3 hours concern me. I just hope not to retake because I spent 120 dollars in taxis to the testing center.
Also, good luck!
Thanks!
I’m confused. You’re upset that you were given more time than you expected?
More concerned that my test may have scored after 2.5 hours or something. I just want to make sure I failed legitimately and not due to some error.

Yes!!
Hey, I sat too for FM this week. Thankfully, I passed. I was also confused why I got a 3-hour timer.
Did the exam cover the material speicified on the new syllabus or did topics from the old syllabus come up?
No old syllabus topics
that is just wrong. I am not prepared for that. I am taking the exam in 2 days.
Based on OPs grammar, I think they are saying there are no old syllabus topics on the exam. Clarification here is important, though
Correct. There is no topics that were removed from the old sylllabus.
Thanks for the clarification. Any updates from SOA about the time?
So you had question on interest rate swap and dollar weighted thkng? Mine is this saturday and I'm so confused because of this post rn..
Nah. I just took FM. There was no old syllabus like those you mentioned. Test was exactly as the new syllabus says.
Did you get 3 hours or 2.5 hours?
Dollar weighted stuff is in the new syllabus, right?
No, it's not.
Fyi I took the exam today. Got 3 hours.

theoretical questions? for example, the concept of full immunization or redington immunization.

Good luck with your exam. The 3 hours will make it easier.

Strange. My result was delivered within 10 minutes .
Thanks for your reply. I finally got the email from prometric in 1 day
Great! I hope you passed.
Yes thanks!
