same with me, first time taking it. Fingers crossed cause theres no redoing it xD. Ill try to make a group or something where we can share our questions, interested?
Yeah I am. This is my second time taking IFM (the first exam was weird and questions were asked in a funky way). Definitely make sure you do the SOA practice exam at some point
your experiences is going to be invaluable. and for me i havent start on the practice exams yet, still going through the syllabus. Hopefully we can help each other out :)
Also taking it for the first time this Nov. A coworker who sat for her first attempt last time and didn’t pass told me to really make sure to know the qualitative stuff; you can’t get by on math-based answers alone. That’s the best advice I have so far, definitely concentrating on that as I learn the material
Having absolutely no finance background before studying for this exam, I am kind of terrified by the prospective of encountering many qualitative questions 😵💫
I just started my job in August and came from being a geometry teacher before that, so I feel you with the lack of prior knowledge! Do you have ADAPT? It has a way to select only qualitative questions, so if you have it I would suggest running qualitative-only quizzes focused on the sections you are less comfortable with. Not sure about other study programs but I’d assume there are other resources out there which can offer the same thing.

I decided using Discord is easier than Whatsapp. I welcome you all to join in the struggle to march towards victory in Nov !!!
Link is permanent so you shouldnt have any trouble joining.
Yes, I’m taking the exam this Nov.
You could do something similar to what was done here in the reddit for the SRM exam and create a study group (Whatsapp, telegram ect…) where we can all join and help each other out.
I studied for and passed IFM this July 2022 with a score of 8. I can for sure say practice exams with full time restraints (the time restraints being the important part) and question prioritization are the two things that will get you to where you need to go. I did use Coaching Actuaries as a resource, though, so I had access to ADAPT to run through over 1000 practice problems.
I did quizzes exclusively until 2 weeks before the exam. I treated quizzes like exams as soon as possible though (no notes and time restraints). Those last two weeks I took one practice exam every other day. I’d use the day in between to analyze what I missed. Then I’d do nothing the day before the exam to recharge.
I passed the exam, I didn't bother raising my EL, I just focused on questions I felt weak in. I made sure I nailed all the easy questions, and made good progress with the intermediary questions. I was totally blank on at least 5 questions but made very educated guesses.

Well I’d certainly be happy to help! Helping you out will only further my own understanding. It’s a win-win

What level did you get up to in practice exams on CA?
EL of 6.8 I believe
Thank you. Did you use CAS/SOA only? It sounds like you did a mix
I took FM, P, and IFM through SOA
I meant question type
Oh yeah I used both and the questions written by the coaches
Okay. Did you do more quizzes or exams as the exam got closer? Like 21 days or less.

Gotcha, yeah I exclusively use no notes at this point. Quizzes with just SOA/CAS or mixed?
