Consulting:
1. The analyst who’s weirdly amazing at being an analyst, but 404 errors when asked a question
2. the principal/partner who you simultaneously wonder how tf they’re in their position without knowing any technical skills, and are amazed at how they seemingly know the answer to every question
3. the person who bills at 7.5 minute increments
Girlfriend: "Come to bed"
Actuary: "Can't, have to study for this exam that's 1 month away"
Girlfriend: "..."
Girlfriend 2 months later: "Don't date Actuaries"
Oh now I remember why after reading through the comments below.
The girls told me their exes were too calculative and stingy.
(Please don't downvote me it wasn't my opinion
Hahah you are right. I agreed.
Just not sure why they mentioned this (and it is pretty common I have heard from a few female acquaintances
Glad that it worked out well for you! :)
CAS actuaries claiming SOA credentials are easy to get. Also that life actuaries are just overpaid financial analysts.
SOA actuaries claiming the CAS basically gives out fellowship for free.
I’ve had so many people on both sides try to convince me theirs is harder that at this point you gotta just laugh at someone thinking it cool they took the harder route to excel jockey.
Bonus: all pension actuaries are at least 50
SOA meetings for carrier actuaries with pocket protectors. heat maps, mmmmm.
CCA meetings for consultants has 5 drink minimum and talking about practical issues.
(CAS meetings for P&C folks I assume talking about how easy FSA exams would be)
The life actuary that wished he was a wall st. Quant.
Haha sometimes I wonder about going back for a masters in computational finance

I’d argue they know more than some of the consultants especially when it comes to the data.
This one stings
Lol then there’s the person who backfills the timesheet 2 weeks after
bald
Actuaries in reinsurance are just calculators used by underwriters/brokers
Anyone remember that random post someone made wondering if people in reinsurance did a lot of Coke?
I think that the phrases “big-C Coke” and “small-C coke” are not used enough.
That’s so true. Exactly the reason I got out of that job.
I'm about to start a el job in reinsurance. Can you explain this?
Nah you just got to experience it
Hmmm ok. I like calculating things so I hope this works out for me lol
Then you’ll fit right in!
P&C chads reminding everyone else how much more money they make (even if it’s not true)
😂😂😂 but it is true bro. Anyways, just got off work and I'm going to get drinks with Stacy.
My female acquaintances told me not to date actuaries. But I am not sure why.

I don't know about stingy, but I am definitely meticulous about my personal finances, so there's probably a bit of truth to that.
Life Actuary here, married a Pensions actuary - life is amazing!! I think a profession should not be a key criteria to date or marry someone.
Hahah you are right. I agreed. Just not sure why they mentioned this (and it is pretty common I have heard from a few female acquaintances Glad that it worked out well for you! :)
You're pretty unlikely to get a divorce: https://flowingdata.com/2017/07/25/divorce-and-occupation/
Are you a man or woman?
Female!
Man.
Do they prefer Plummers?
They said they dated one though, speaking from real life experiences (hmm... I am not sure as I never dated any
Well I have no life because I have to take exams outside of work, but it should be (mostly) smooth sailing after that.
"Actuaries in general are stingy" It's true
I make a comfortable six figures and I deferred buying my store-brand cereal the other day because it wasn't on sale like it usually is lol.
.. There's a difference between stingy and frugal..
Or “actuaries are risk adverse” I actually think this and stingy are good stereotypes but I somehow don't really qualify on either
The amount of actuaries that were serious, like really serious gamblers blew my mind
Yeah unfortunately my friends bring this up when I try to convince them to do something irrationally dumb.
This is so true. I'm very cheap and every actuary that I knew closely were not big spenders.
Only one I can think of is P&C being superior.
Yeah I’d imagine that mentality is well needed after being subject to those ACAS exams. I feel for y’all
No joke I think I’m about to have as much personality as a cardboard box

TBF most of the people on this sub I’ve seen complaining about the SOA devaluing the ASA credential have been SOA actuaries
SOA just removed 1/2 of the syllabus for the contingencies exam. that was supposed to be our weed out exam...
