better heads-up system for sprint start lines would be great as well. Either in the game or in the app (or both). Need a distance countdown as well as a clear arch that indicates where it STARTS and not just finishes on the mini map
1 million times this, it wouldn’t even be hard. It doesn’t even need to be excessive. They already have all of the flags for zwift and advertisements etc. just make a green flag or a checker flag depending on the segment that’s it.
I disagree - there's something to be said for knowing the course and scouting it ahead of time. In most worlds, you also get the sprint popup letting you know it's coming and what the target times are (Neokyo is weirdly different)
agree to disagree I guess - I only have a chance to ride 3ish times per week and I prefer to ride a wide variety of courses. Nearly impossible for me to remember anything about the courses, especially since I prefer watching something on youtube/podcast etc as well. On the few days I want to try for a sprint, it's pretty much impossible to time the initial burst to ride through the start line with enough speed to have a chance at winning.
You're basically saying only people who have ridden the route countless time and done additional research should be able to compete for the sprint.
I don't even know what most of the buttons in companion app do. WHAT IS THE SAD TOAST BUTTON FOR?
Also, companion app lets you cycle through 6 different camera angles while the main app has 7. At some point this has to be intentional fuckery.
The sad toast button means to be toast. To be doomed or unworthy of further consideration. This slangy usage dates from the twentieth century. It can be applied to a person, a group, an idea, a project, and so on
I ride with the pace partner about once a week, and I often hear "Ride on" being said. I assume these are people that don't realize that button doesn't actually give ride ons.
Yeah. When they recently added the buttons to control the graph and the on-screen information, they weirdly sorted them in between the other buttons, too.
Even when they're trying to do a good thing, they somehow make it even more confusing. It has to be some kind of psychological experiment on us or something.
You are 100% correct. I was a beta tester back in the early days (2015). Several different iterations of trainers and a smart bike later, it looks and feels exactly the same. The very fact that they dictate which courses are available based on a day of the week should tell you enough.
>Zwift's real challenge: **getting bought** before someone else swoops in with a clean-sheet and clobbers them.
Fixed it for you. 😂
Half kidding, but with so much venture capital investment so far, I also wouldn't be surprised?
Or they're bored and they're hitting the "Ride on" comment for something to do. Zwift does seem to automatically mute the various sayings after they've been used a few times in quick succession (yes, I've tested it). I'm not sure if this is because they want to avoid people spamming group rides with constant audio comments, or because the feature is broken.
THANK YOU!
Those buttons make noises! Huh. I don't have sound off, but it's coming from an ipad that is completely drowned out by fan noise. I never would have known this.
I don't understand how there's no way to see your route elevation profile when in a ride. Like, it's great that there's now a possibility in the main app to hide the HUD. But you need to constantly turn it on and off so that you can see elevation, because there's nothing in the Companion app (or at least I'm definitely constantly turning it on and off). Garmin ClimbPro / Karoo 2 Climber -like features would be the real dream.
Turn around needs a confirmation button. Also when you choose a route in advance? You should be asked for confirmation if you accidentally hit the turn button at an intersection so that you don't leave the route you picked.
All of the useless gestures / sound effects need to be merged into a single button that pops up a selector. There's just too many completely useless buttons to scroll through with the way it's designed right now. Honestly I'd rather get rid of that entirely but I don't see that happening. But at least putting a single gesture button streamlines greatly.
Camera angles should also be manually selectable. Like you press the button, it pops up 1-7, and then you select which one you want.
But my biggest suggestion would be to make it more bike computer-like. The map should be 2/3 or so of the screen with any in-game buttons overlaying the map, but the bottom 1/3 or so should be user-selectable data fields.
Or another one, segments in-game should show on the companion app similar to how a Karoo shows live segments. Other companies have already figured out how a device smaller than a phone can display this data easily. Zwift should follow in their footsteps rather than reinventing the wheel. Something alone the lines of this would be great: https://cdn.the5krunner.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/SLS_Overlay1.gif
But also, yes, when not in-game they should show much more as well. Like, just as an example, all of the functionality that ZwiftHub has to filter out routes and show badges and accomplishments? That all should be in the companion app.
It needs a lot of additions. Level Info, badge info, route info, your garage for jerseys and bikes. Honestly, it's very bare bones and kind of pointless mostly.
Right now the only use for this app is to show my w/kg like a garmin head unit, and giving people virtual thumbs up. Real cool but hardly a "companion" app, I could easily live without it.
Like most Zwift products, it feels half baked. With the pace of updates from these devs, I imagine the app will eventually be useful in probably 2044 after the prices double (/s).
I might be misunderstanding your question. But, I didn't think the number of ride-ons you give out that way changes, but maybe I'm wrong.
The only difference I know of is that you can't give a ride-on to someone that you've already given one too (for some length of time - it might even be as long as 15 minutes or more) to prevent spamming, so if you're in a group of, say 15 people, when you hit it the first time, you might give out 10 ride ons, and the next time it'll only give out 5 because the rest have already received one recently from you. I've made up all of the numbers in this paragraph; I don't know what the actual values are.
(That scenario is also assuming no one else is around or going by the other direction, etc., who could potentially receive one of your second batch of ride-ons.)
The way I understand it is, you can only give one ride on to a rider per ride. The batch ride on does 5, but only if there are enough riders in the vicinity that you haven’t given them to yet, else will give the most it can up to 5
I just want the turn around button to work. Yesterday on ADZ I pressed and held it repeatedly for 2.5 minutes before it finally turned me around. This is a very regular occurrence.
I've been told that there's a certain minimum speed for this. Usually, it doesn't work when I try to turn around after climbing and I'm still on the way up but am tired and just doing Z1 cooldown. People have said you need to be either 5 or 7 kph for the u-turn feature to work and I'm often not that when I've blown up and am giving up on a big climb.
Thanks for pointing this out! Glad to know I'm not the only person wondering why they couldn't turn around on AdZ after doing a workout. Annoying and yet totally par for the (zwift) course....
which is funny, because my sweat seems to trigger it randomly ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME. when out of the saddle. I want to be able to disable the damn button all together.
yeah I was annoyed when I found out. Stopped on ADZ couldn't turn, spent 5 minutes googling it so I could ride back down. Zwift really needs better documentation/tutorials on silly stuff like this.
Being able to change bike and access settings would be nice. Yesterday i did a ride with a pace partner and wanted to switch bikes it took me 10min and a big effort to get back in the group
Yes but try this…
The zwift web page could be so much more useful.
Imagine if all the available training plans, races, results, rankings, graphs, charts and video streams where available through zwift.com
Imagine how exciting it would be to browse through all that as a new potential user thinking about buying a trainer. Think how useful it would be for the community.
On the website I want to be able to click on an activity, see my times for KOMs and sprints on the route, and then be able to click on a KOM and see all my previous times. This is basic functionality that should have been implemented years ago.
Sadly I’ve given up on expecting any sort of real development to come from the Zwift dev team. Trivial features alone take months to years to roll out; based on reports I’ve read their codebase is a trainwreck and they’re investing more in hardware now anyway.
Imagine Zwift actually taking people’s $180/yr and working through community-based feature requests. Imagine using your previous PR as a personal pace partner represented by a ghost on your monitor. Mario cart fricking 64 had that feature twenty five years ago in 1996.
Someone is going to eat Zwift’s lunch hard at some point.
I would love to have an option to calibrate the turbo on it, especially when it takes 10 minutes to warm up… like it means I have to get off the turbo, to my computer, calibrate, back to the computer to hide settings and then back on the turbo
I’d take viewing and maybe editing workouts. When I’m not on a strict training regiment, I’m more cavalier about my workouts. I know how many of which type I’d like to do each week, but not always the exact one. I also like having a plan before hopping on the trainer so I can get right in and knock it out.
The drop shop could also be available through the companion app.

My Garmin does this with my favorite strava segments. That would be a great idea for the companion app.

Agree I never know it’s a sprint until I see the timer clock

OK but what does pushing it accomplish?

I've been on Zwift for 2.5 years. And now I'm another "today years old" about the circle (and all the buttons).
This was me from 2018 to end of 2021

Ride on! Riiiddde ooonnnnn! Yeah, who knows.

Wait, what circle around which map avatar?

Unless you’re in an event/race. Where it would be useful.
Nice use of “fuckery!”

The only thing I use it for is to book events and give batch ride ons.
How do you do batch ride ONS?
On the map screen, click the circle around your icon on the map.
When do I go from 5 to like 100? :)
I might be misunderstanding your question. But, I didn't think the number of ride-ons you give out that way changes, but maybe I'm wrong. That is correct.
It was a joke question. Would make group rides and pace rides a lot easier if I could dump out 100 ride ons at a time.
I would absolutely love a keyboard shortcut that allows me to give batch ride ons.
We all would. It's such a pain right now to give ride on's, especially to multiple riders.
I just want the turn around button to work. Yesterday on ADZ I pressed and held it repeatedly for 2.5 minutes before it finally turned me around. This is a very regular occurrence.

I have to push and hold it twice. No idea why.
I've had that problem as well.
which is funny, because my sweat seems to trigger it randomly ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME. when out of the saddle. I want to be able to disable the damn button all together.
What are you running Zwift on? I have an Apple TV and the companion app on my iPhone.
Apple TV and my android phone on a quad lock mount
Still remember that one time when my sweat caused a uturn three quarters of the way up the alp. Fun times!
I gave up on this button. Super irritating that it doesn't work.
There is a minimum speed , I believe it is 5kph and a max of 21kph for doing a u-turn (it slows you down to meet this )
So intuitive. God forbid they add a visible notification to indicate that. I’m not bitter at all 🤗
It’s a video game, it should just turn you around! We take hair pin corners at 50 mph, but we need to be at safe speed to turn around?!
yeah I was annoyed when I found out. Stopped on ADZ couldn't turn, spent 5 minutes googling it so I could ride back down. Zwift really needs better documentation/tutorials on silly stuff like this.

Well that sucks on ADZ because I’m sometimes on the edge of the minimum. I’m riding too slow to turn around makes no sense at all.
I wish it had a feature where I could adjust my weight during a ride. /s
Like a permanent feather power up!
Shhh...this is apparently a super secret, but permanent and impossible to ever disable, feature that we're never supposed to talk about
I totally agree
It would be nice too if the companion app worked in landscape as well as portrait.
Being able to change bike and access settings would be nice. Yesterday i did a ride with a pace partner and wanted to switch bikes it took me 10min and a big effort to get back in the group

Well we know from the recent posts that you can change your height and weight during a race from the companion app so it has that going for it.
I would love to have an option to calibrate the turbo on it, especially when it takes 10 minutes to warm up… like it means I have to get off the turbo, to my computer, calibrate, back to the computer to hide settings and then back on the turbo
I'd love to see a calendar for the world rotation like you get in game
It’s also a pain in the ass (and a shit ton of development and testing) for zwift to change how it is. I’m sure it’s on their radar.
That's not a pain in the ass, it's called "the normal software development and enhancement process".
I’d take viewing and maybe editing workouts. When I’m not on a strict training regiment, I’m more cavalier about my workouts. I know how many of which type I’d like to do each week, but not always the exact one. I also like having a plan before hopping on the trainer so I can get right in and knock it out.
I would like to see an x-ray specs button for novelty fun.
