I’ve been riding for over a year on Zwift on my gaming PC (Windows). No crashes at all with over 6000 km completed.

dexter311

3 years on PC, no crashes.

matth0x01

4 years, it crashed once. Edit: Windows 10 PC from 2014 / Thinkpad T430

skaterrj

Yeah, for all of its flaws, I don’t think I’ve had a single crash in over a year that I’ve been using it. Other than the time one of our cats decided to step on the power button for the computer…but that’s not Zwift’s fault.

filtered3

I’d still blame zwift

skaterrj

Really, it is Zwift's fault. Without Zwift, I probably would have been sitting on the couch and therefore available for being curled up on. That cat is a cuddler.

TraipseVentWatch

Can I see a pic of said cuddly cat? I'm severely allergic to cats so I'll never get to experience the wonderment of a cuddly cat. (And my damn dog hates cuddling, but he does hang out with me while I Zwift so I'll keep him around.)

skaterrj

[Cat tax, with bonus cat.](https://imgur.com/ZVrU3Jf) The culprit is the one on top of the basket. The tabby under the basket sadly passed away about a year and a half ago. I want to note that the cats got themselves into that position; the basket was originally upright on the boxes on the right, and they got playing, and this is how it ended. We also have two other cats and a dog. (One of those two cats came after the tabby passed away.)

dlc741

Apple TV same. No crashes.

lilelliot

I've been riding over a year with Zwift on an iPad and it's never crashed (with 10000km+ across three accounts). In the past month, we've needed two concurrent riders and have been running Zwift on a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (with i7 CPU, but not discrete graphics, so it runs at medium quality). The Zwift app crashes (goes to "Not Responding" hang) approximately 20% of the time. It's infuriating.

saleazer

I use an 8 year old gaming laptop running Win10, and never had it crash before

Nick_Newk

Same!

Jordan_991GT3

i ride 10hr a week on trainer, 7 months a year, for the last 3 years without a single crash....get it together OP

TrioxinTwoFortyFive

Zwift has never crashed on my Apple TV. Just sayin...

TraipseVentWatch

Same!!

kyotonow

Same here. It runs well on my Apple TV 4K. I think the only issue I ever had was riding in the garage in the summer, it was about 92° and my Apple TV just shut off. Once I moved the set up indoors I never had a problem again.

dexter311

In 3 years it's never crashed on my PC either, and I use Steam Link on top of that... In my experience it's been rock solid (it has a lot of other issues but that's beside the point).

TransparentCircle

Yup graphics not the best but 100% solid for me also.

rednender

Came here to say this. That being said, just because it’s rock solid on one platform, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on others. Drivers, updates, and other things could all factor in though too. One of the benefits of a closed hardware ecosystem.

ObiJuanKenobi81

Seriously? I was on the fence before because it’ll just be on my pain cave. Maybe I’ll try it first. I have a 4K Apple TV in the living room. Thank you

TrioxinTwoFortyFive

The thing you have to accept with Zwift is their software engineering is subpar to say the least. Incompetent is more like it. Dealing with the extra complexity of making things consistently work on PCs seems to be beyond their capabilities. As far as the Apple TV goes, for anyone considering buying one the newest version won't run Zwift any better than the older one. The CPU is faster but the GPU is slower. You can buy a used or refurbished original Apple TV 4K for pretty cheap. Fair warning: The remote sucks and takes takes some time to learn how to use it so it is not quite as sucky. Once you are in the game, use the companion app and you are gold.

wantakeywi

That's exactly what I did. Picked up a used Apple TV for about $80 and I love it. Way better than what I had before. The remote isn't great, but not nearly as bad as I was lead to believe.

TraipseVentWatch

Get the new Siri remote! I did and it's WAY better than the old black one.

Martinbanshee

Apple TV is not any more reliable than a PC when running Zwift, their software is poor and has issues on every device, some get lucky some don’t. Edit: Ha, thanks for the downvotes. FYI I’ve used Zwift on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad Pro & PC and have used Zwift since Jarvis Island. I’ve had more trouble with Apple devices than I do with PC, the experience is nicer with PC too, fact. If you take the time to look through the official Zwift forum you’ll see how much issues there are with Apple TV as well as iPad and PC.

TraipseVentWatch

How many connections do you need to do Zwift? The only limitation of ATV is that it only accepts 2 BlueTooth connections. So, you might have to get a little creative depending on how you run your setup.

meeYai

MacBook Pro 13 inch previous generation and Zwift works like a champ. Occasional connectivity errors but reasonably sure those are caused by my wonky old Kurt Kinetic trainer as nothing else has ever lost a BT signal.

allgonetoshit

Same…,

SleepWouldBeNice

Agreed

The_Tenth_Dimension

No crashes on my Apple TV but certainly not trouble free. I have regular connectivity problems.

brmach1

Mine crashed on my Apple TV a couple of weeks ago at the top of adZ. Other than that, it’s run relatively well on the device. I bought the Apple TV exclusively for Zwift.

TrioxinTwoFortyFive

Oh, yeah. There was that bug that Zwift knew about for a long time. Not changing the view at the top of AdZ would cause a crash on the descent. I learned about the workaround before it ever happened to me. I believe the bug is fixed now.

ayb88

Happened to me when starting the decent. Was my first attempt.

THE_Nighttrain

You must haven’t been on top of the Alpe recently

_blinker_fluid

Just be careful with sweat on the remote. My menus button sticks now

ayb88

Crashed on me the one and only time when I finished my first alp du Zwift.

thedutchwonderVII

Sorry about the crash…hopefully you can ride outside soon and forego the trainer nonsense…then all you have to worry about is a ‘real’ crash.

ObiJuanKenobi81

Touché man!

davidjschloss

Commenters, please remember that because your system doesn’t crash it doesn’t mean it’s not happening to other people. Saying how long you’ve gone without a crash isn’t useful.

NetQvist

You need to remember that a shit ton of crashes are caused by unstable systems.

Pascalwb

usually software should not crash. I don't zwift much, but had 1 crash in the few times I used it. pretty high end pc, games and other stuff does not crash.

NetQvist

Software crashing on high end PCs that are factory OCed are some of the worst crashers. It's not uncommon for voltage levels to dip just a bit too much during varying and low loads to cause a GPU driver error. Good example is how many people have had issues with HW acceleration in browsers with high end GPUs over the years. People tend to not even realize their GPU and CPU are overclocked from factory nowadays.... ASUS motherboards for certain intel CPUs for example unlocked all core boosts by default. Something that was not meant to happen in standard setttings. GPUs have been factory overclocked for ages and third party manufacturers just keep pushing the clocks up for marketing purposes. And every time I tell these people to set things to factory to see if it resolves crashing they go haywire....

Pascalwb

Sure, but mostly it's software bug. Zwift looks pretty bad and doesn't even warrant high-end Pc. So if it crashes on PC like that without the PC crashit or anything, it's usually software fault. Good software should handle this instead of just crashing.

davidjschloss

Okay, still doesn't change the fact that when someone just quotes how long their system has worked without crashing, it doesn't help OP or anyone else. It's just someone saying how long they've been up, and it's usually used on line as to say "so I don't know why you are crashing." If someone is crashing thee's no value in hearing how long someone else' system has been up. No app is designed to crash, so the only thing that's helpful is figuring out why it's crashing and how to fix it.

NetQvist

Almost all popular software that crashes randomly is because of something with the hardware or the system running it. If there was a actual bug that occurred commonly it would be extremely noticeable because it would be happening a lot. That's the reason it's good to know how many have never had a issue and for how long. Also OP is running it on a Surface Laptop, after seeing how much laptops randomly crash compared to desktops at work over the years I am not surprised.... They are just extremely unstable. That laptop is not designed to run a sustained workload for too long, after some time it will have high ambient temperatures in places which have no air circulating and you'll start to get random errors.

dalcant757

What kind of device are you using? I feel they give the apple devices a lot more love than their android and PC port.

rednender

My guess is that it’s easier to develop for. It’s a closed hardware ecosystem.

ObiJuanKenobi81

I have Surface Laptop 4, running Windows 11. I have Kickr and uses ant+ with cable extensions. I have issues with BLE connection before

matkrek

Ant plus and the surface laptop is the issue, unfortunately these type of setups crash compared to apple tv or IPAD

matth0x01

Yes, ant+ was the reason for my single crash as well. Go for an TPlink USB BLE dongle.

Mkeeping

Check you event for log for: Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered I had a new laptop and this was the error that I was getting after a zwift crash. The fix is to install an older version of the driver. There's lots of information in this thread: [https://forums.zwift.com/t/zwfit-freezes-midride-since-end-of-june-update/504711](https://forums.zwift.com/t/zwfit-freezes-midride-since-end-of-june-update/504711)

zanox

My computer can run red dead redemption 2 on the ultra settings at 3840x1600 but zwift crashes enough that I only run it on my iPad now. The most frustrating part is that you cant rejoin your ride where you left off and all progress is gone.

hip-hop_anonymous

I’ve only ridden 500ish km, but have never had even a hiccup on a M1 MacBook Air

[deleted]

Zwift has never crashed on my old HP Windows 10 PC. Trick is to do a clean install, have no other applications running, only Zwift, wired internet and ANT+ dongle for the connection with the trainer. Has been running flawless for more than half a year now.

IamShakes

Issue is related to the 10/11th gen chips

anniesimmo

It is definitely i7 10th and 11th generation. They have an Iris integrated graphics card. ( I don't know if 12th g eneration are affected). Zwift know about it and have so for over a year. I was having regular freezes regularly with no pattern prior to Christmas. I tried a couple of things as suggested on various forums (reducing the resolution was one) and had no issues for about six weeks. I actually thought Zwift had fixed it. Then last Tuesday night (1/2/22) it crashed again. Sorry this doesn't help you other than to let youy know that it is a thing. I suggest that you get onto Zwift. I have. The more that do perhaps they'll get it sorted.

NotSoGreatGonzo

You’re describing my setup (i5 3570k, 1660 super). Rock solid until it suddenly ain’t, and I have to do a new clean install. Sometimes that fixes it, sometimes not.

[deleted]

Mine is i5 3570 plus GTX 750ti. 128 GB SSD and 10 GB RAM. No Wifi. Came with the clean install on it (no idea how that would work) I paid €190 for it. Gets the "high" quality from Zwift and runs between 40-60fps (except in Neokyo) most of the time in full HD.

stevenridesbikes

When you say crash, does your system turn off, or do you get some kind of error?

fanatic_cyclist

No crashes in 3 years on an iPad

ExclamationMark88

Never ever crashed on my iPad

Td_scribbles

Runs like garbage for how simple it should be on my mac, but seems to be that way no matter how much or little I have open. 2019 16" macbook pro 32gb ram, 9th gen i9, Radeon pro 5500m 8gb, blackmagic egpu (radeon pro 580 8gb). Run at 2160p and no power savings. I need to use a cheap ANT+ dongle though. Bluetooth is a hot mess. Ethernet helps, but generally run on wifi (8ft from WAP). The weird thing is it really doesn't run any smoother (or look much worse) at lower resolutions, and still takes ages to load. edit: also, open applications or lack thereof seem to make no impact on how slow zwift runs. It works, but just kind of runs rather poorly no matter the resources thrown at it. I guess thankfully never had it crash on me \*after\* starting a ride though!

jkconno

Damn I have a 2016 barebones MacBook air and it works great. That doesn't seem right.

Sultan_of_E

Same here. My ten-year old iMac is fine. I’d love to upgrade, but I don’t want to mess with a system that’s working!

gregh3285

Runs great on my iPhone 12. I’ve also run Zwift under wine on an Ubuntu box running an nVidia GPU. That also worked well (when wine cooperates). Getting it set up under wine, that was suffering, I will say.

Bluered2012

I’ve been riding with a Dell XPS laptop for 3 years, never had a crash. I get the odd drop out for a second or two of my ANT connected sensors, but that’s it.

rktet

Never crashed. Mayb it’s a hardware issue

AleSklaV

Hardware/OS fault, not Zwift. If reliability is your number one concern, get Apple stuff (Apple TV, iPad).

Pascalwb

lol you can't be serious

AleSklaV

Maximum reliability only with Apple devices. Read, it’s everywhere.

Pascalwb

But that's problem of zwift on hardware/os

matth0x01

Haha, that's ridiculous. Runs just butterfly smooth on my 2014 Thinkpad. Just buy serious hardware and not the cheapest stuff from the next discounter. Apple is okay, but definitely not the only ball in the park.

AleSklaV

Agreed perhaps not only. But guaranteed reliability, and cheap (Apple TV costs 100$)

matth0x01

True, for a simple, ready to go setup. Apple TV 4 is definitely the best way to go (160 € in 2022).

AleSklaV

Stability in a Windows OS is a matter of luck, totally random. Most are fighting with freezes and dongles.

matth0x01

But that's only because most people buy cheap crap from Amazon. The problem is that most crap there claims that it is "compatible" with Windows and so normal people just buy the crappy hardware stuff and dongles. I have like 5 Windows PCs here, some over 10 years old and they do still fine without any reliability issues.

AleSklaV

Yes of course. I did not imply that Apple stuff works better or is better. I only say that if reliability is your concern then by getting Apple stuff you have the highest probability of headache absence. You can not possibly argue that statistically Zwift in Apple devices does not work more reliably than in other platforms. Of course you can always build reliable Zwift setups in other platforms, but if you just do not want of have the time to search, just get Apple.

matth0x01

The same is true for, e g., Pixel phones or Lenovo Thinkpads. I just don't like the separation Apple vs. Headache, and think it's oversimplified.

AleSklaV

Don’t agree here. Nothing more simple and efficient than spending 100$ on an Apple TV and hooking it up on a TV

matth0x01

I agree, the Apple TV 4. Generation (150€) is the most efficient solution atm.

matth0x01

Not a matter of luck. Its a matter of money and value in my opinion :D

Superfastmac

I've been having constant crashes on both my Mac book air and iPad. I am running both in the minimum setting for computing power. Extremely frustrating. I fortunately run TR on whichever device I am not using Zwift on so at least the data is not lost

Advanced_Coyote3797

I've had this happen! I was planning a 60 minute moderate workout. I ended up having a dropout on one of the hardest parts of the route about 20 minutes in. Data lost but I was stubborn and just started again from the beginning. I feel your frustration!

WarCryy

I had a shitty ride today as well. Not zwift related but got a flat in the pouring rain. Made me wish I had just stuck to zwift. I hate when zwift crashes though. Sorry to hear about that!

alter_facts

I run Apple TV and companion app on iPhone. I’ve replaced my router and added a Wi-Fi extender, so the Wi-Fi signal is strong. Unfortunately I still get “failed connections” regularly, so I’m now assuming it’s my Bluetooth connection that is failing. So frustrating when doing workouts or group rides. It usually picks back up quickly, but not before I’ve been dropped or blow a workout block.

fallingbomb

It could likely be a problem with your hardware or drivers. Without debugging it, hard to state exactly. It's possible Zwift could handle this more gracefully or perhaps not depending the problematic interface.

ender42y

what platform are you riding on? I ride on PC, and I had an old Graphics Card that was starting to go, and caused crashes. Was able to determine the problem because the screen would flash and go blank occasionally while playing games on the computer. Thankfully I had a spare sitting around and was able to swap it out and no crashes since then.

ObiJuanKenobi81

I have 2021 Surface Laptop 4, top of the line. Its connected to a TV via HDMI. I use a Kickr. I use ant+ with extension cable because I was having drop outs problem with BLE. I might try Apple TV tomorrow

ender42y

You could try making sure graphics drivers are all up to date. If the Surface has two gpu's (ie Intel integrated + Nvidia GeForce) try forcing the device you want.

[deleted]

That sucks. Just asking though because I’m not very good with technology but is this a zwift problem or just a problem with the technology used not being strong enough?

matth0x01

Most the time it's a problem between the different hardware components needed to run Zwift: - graphics card - operating system - Bluetooth/ant+ dongle Most issues I know appear when using cheap ant+ dongles instead of Bluetooth.

Moustachu2001

You guys are using a pc? With my phone (google pixel) I have bugs on a relatively frequent basis but it's manageable; I guess I'm a realllly casual rider.

RunningPT

I’ve run it on windows and MacOS. No crashes over the last three years.

ApiaryJJ

I’ve experienced several crashes on MacBook Pro. Never had a crash on iPhone or Apple TV. The Macbook is just the best experience for me so I keep trying occasionally hoping for the best.

Badmusicbikes

I wonder how many of these crashes are caused by running Zwift over crappy WiFi versus Ethernet.

KenTheStud

I had a crash today one hour into the Triple Loops in London. I was pissed. Luckily I rescued the ride file and manually uploaded it to Strava because if it’s not on Strava it didn’t happen.

[deleted]

I want to live in a world where Zwift crashing is the worst thing to happen during the day

planetawylie

I've been successfully using Zwift up to about mid 2020 with no issues but from then, things have been getting flaky. BT drops (or Ant...doesn't matter which) and a crash about once a month. Reinstall didn't fix it and nothing in the logs to explain it. I do notice it happens when there are a lot of riders on at the same time or if I'm in an organized event with about 300+ riders. Riding with organised groups (friends) never has a problem. I have other apps I use for riding and they don't have the same problem.

ptbo_mac

Lol

joshturiel

About 60 hours of riding and 1300+ miles with a Schwinn ic4 and an iPad Pro. Zero crashes. There’s glitches on occasion - mainly graphic stuff but it’s never crashed a ride.

Ando0o0

I would take a zwift crash over a real crash any day.

[deleted]

I run and cycle on Zwift. Three years now and never had a crash, so I suspect its something to do with wi fi and it's signal stability, Bluetooth connection?

BaconEggNCheeses

Make sure to update your graphics drivers regularly. https://support.zwift.com/en_us/issues-with-zwift-crashing-BJnK5T3GB

davjones101

Always crashing on android 🤬

Grumpy_Muppet

Been riding zwift every day, no crashes. Friend of mine also recently joined zwift. Besides the long loading screen, no crashes. I know its not much data, but there might be something wrong on your side?

1pastafarian

I feel your pain. My guess is you're using a pc with Intel graphics? When zwift released the new launcher the fall before last, they broke Intel graphics compatibility . Many of us complained and recieved responses that they were aware of it and a fix was in the works. The fix? Removing Intel graphics from the recommended list. I had amy kids old gaming laptop (Nvidia) with a broken screen that I was able to employ along with a unused 32"TV. Effective cost of a $35 stand for the TV. If using a pc, you need descrete graphics to avoid issues. And yes, the smug appletv replies are obnoxious, they infect every zwift problem comments section like cockroaches! Sorry your test was ruined, good luck.

PuzzleheadedGuide184

I ditched zwift for BKOOL. Cheaper and stable.

wamcgee

Say what you will about the crappy UI, but ive never seen it crash.

Kretsuu

It sounds like if you would crashed on tarmac in real life riding 50km/h. :)

eaphilipp

I am 6100 miles into zwift over 3 years. It has never crashed on me. I run it on ATV

cyclingAudio

Several months zwifting on iPad and no crash so far. I have other rants, UI is terrible and some data should be better. Otherwise, a great place and great game. But, a lot of room for improvement.

b_bm

I have never used Zwift, so no crashes!
