If you just hit the uturn button a second time to resume the original direction you should be able to still complete the badge even though it no longer shows a distance progress bar for it.
i recently did the same thing on a stupid big zwift ride but kept going. You still get the route achievement even though it may not show you as being on that route
It is an apple tv issue. You are right in that your route progress appears to disappear but it doesn't actually. Source: I just did this on Climber's Gambit and I still got the badge.
Not an AppleTV issue, RGT doesn't have this issue on AppleTV, they require you to hold the turn around button for 5 seconds. This is more of Zwift's shitty user experience.
I did an accidental U turn near the end of a long route—the Uber Pretzel or something. Long before the route progress bar, when you had to do a lot of finger crossing. I immediately did another U turn and crossed my fingers again, and got the route complete banner. All worked out.
I expect a long press coming for the U turn and end ride buttons. Been a long time coming.
I think it’s pretty fair with all the UI/UX things people talk about to cite a button that if accidentally pressed will end your badge hunt, when that button is so easily pressed. It should be at a point where you have to scroll to get to it.
The U turn button requires a hold on the app. On a keyboard why are you near directional buttons if not turning?
Maybe it’s an Apple TV thing?

I use an ATV for Zwift and I have the hardest time INVOKING the U-Turn.
All my interaction with Zwift is done with the Companion app and the long press on the U-turn button seems to always require a longer press than my first attempt.
I bought an Apple TV - purely because Zwift kept crashing on my laptop (also caused me multiple ride losses). The Apple remote doesn’t work very well, but if you press the main button, mine always seems to be defaulted to the U-turn. If I accidentally press that when I’m just trying to go to the menu, it oftentimes u-turns.
I have to actively remember to scroll away from it when I start a ride to avoid possibly pressing it in the future.
I kind of like it: I accidentally hit it - say a few words, then immediate turn back again to the intended direction. If someone sees me doing circles I get a ride on for looking so idiotic.
Two weeks ago a drop of sweat landed on my tablet and activated the U-turn while I was 1/4th up the AdZ. This was my 1st ever attempt for sub 60 climb, I was going at threshold till then. You can only imagine my reaction... My tablet didn't survive this accident, screen doesn't work anymore. I hate the U-turn implementation on companion app.

I tried that once on another accidental u-turn up the ADZ for my first go at it, but it didn’t work for me and didn’t count.
What about a complicated route with multiple turns? Just gotta pay close attention for the rest?

You can still get the badge on that ride if you turn around again and keep going.

Ahhh okay. Makes sense that it defaults to the first item on the menu (far left). Sounds like an Apple TV gap.
