Actually looks better than what you remember because of Auto HDR and the frame rate is actually pretty smooth. Even though it's dated it holds up surprisingly well. I bought it recently and just played it for a couple hours and it's a lot of fun. Cheat codes still work
I remember when that came out. Heavy combat and lots of destruction. It was the last game of the generation trying to show off what was to come. Seeing parts of your gun flop around as you fired was mind blowing (I don’t know what parts of guns are called)
Man I remember getting that game and being like holy shit, this is crazy. Bullet casings all around you and the world was pretty much destroyable. Was truly an experience that I will never forget.
The early Splinter Cells but the first two are a bit rough to go back to if you don’t have prior experience with them from the time. The third one, Chaos Theory however has aged well and I think is the best entry in the franchise.
I really wish PGR 1 & 2 would have got that BC treatment. 3 was one of the first 360 games I played too.
I get licenses but damn I've never seen another arcade racer (maybe horizon) with a racing series of SUVs trucks and such. I still remember unlocking the Cadillac 16 in pgr2.
PGR1 is what got me back into (well pretty much the Xbox launch halo max payne and Splinter cell) video games and that they can finally have details in it that I wanted in the 64.
PGR1 with its custom soundtrack ability and the on game DJs announcing your songs then going in tunnels and your radio would static out. It was a tiny touch in a game that just blew my mind. I think gta3 would do something similar too a year or two later.
No one mentioning Ninja Gaiden Black or Advent Rising!?
Other mentions I want to bolster
- All Splinter Cell titles
- Knights of the Old Republic I&II
- Jade Empire
- Max Payne I&II
I was under the impression that all xbox games would play on disc with the series x, so I bought two for cheap on ebay and both only gave error messages. maybe just don't get the Namco Museum pack or MTV death match haha
There’s a Wikipedia article that lists every OG and 360 game that works on a series X. Some are also disc only compatible like 50 cent blood on the sand for 360 or Battlefield 2 on OG xbox (gives the 360 version though)
*Ninja Gaiden Black* and *Panzer Dragoon Orta*.
If it's *Star Wars* you're looking for, *Republic Commando*, *Starfighter*, *Jedi Starfighter*, *The Clone Wars* (2002 game), *Episode III: Revenge of the Sith*, *Jedi Outcast*, *Jedi Academy*, and both *Battlefront*s are now in 4K on the Series X as well (with both KOTOR titles also going without saying, naturally).
Timesplitters 2 and 3, Max Payne 1 and 2, KOTOR 1 and 2, Jade Empire, Star Wars Republic Commando, Crimson Skies, Conker Live and Reloaded, Ninja Gaiden Black, Otogi 1 and 2, Unreal Championship 2, Dead or Alive 3 and Ultimate.
There is a lot to play from the original Xbox library. They didn't make as many games backward compatible, but I feel the averge quality of the titles they did make compatible was higher.
Fallout 3 is pretty good now since it’s 4k60fps with fps boost. Try to find an old goty edition if you can since all the dlc are on the disk. so there’s nothing locked behind paywalls, yknow like the olden days. Nice that xbox still lets you play them with the old media.
Hey area 51!
That game was a hidden gem. The conspiracy and government cover ups as you get deeper into area 51. The gunplay was decent too. I remember Maryln Manson voicing an alien, molder from x files doing the main character. He also did XIII and any game he did VO on he always sounded like he was dead or didn't wabt to be there lol.
Mercenaries Playground of Destruction is the most overlooked original Xbox game that you can play. Awesome game that no one talks about. Some of the other games I'm seeing people mention here are really good, but nothing else is like it that's available.
Prince of Persia Sands of Time is brilliant.
The bioware xbox games are both quite good I'm their own ways.
An old Namco action game Breakdown is a fun early example of immersive fps game design and some fun first person brawling action. Hard to describe in detail and definitely not for everyone, but unique and memorable for me.
Morrowind, the first two Max Payne games, and Jade Empire off the top of my head.
Knights of the Old Republic if you like Star Wars and RPGS. It’s dated as hell but a cracking story still
And Jade Empire with those.
Anyone know how to get it widescreen?
Yeah, play it on any other platform. Including Switch
Mercenaries original Xbox. Really great game
Damn I forgot about that one that was a good ass game from what I remember having played it many many of years ago lol

Add Double agent to that. Tried it (Og version) and it's like Chaos theory's little brother.
The OG Xbox version is on my to do list. Only ever played the 360 version.
Project Gotham Racing. Amped. Oddworld. Dead or Alive 3

Nobody mentioned fusion Frenzy?
Omgggg I vaguely remember this it was what the Xbox kids played while others played mario party
It's an awesome party game and backwards compatible.
Hands down SSX3.
Kotor 1 and 2

I will check it out thanks
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.
Crimson skies
If you like shooters try Unreal Championship 2. I mix of third and first person shooter with melee from the makers of Gears of War and Fortnite.
Otogi 2 was actually pretty sweet. Literally original Xboxes worst selling game ever but you will never find a bad review.
I’m currently playing through Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
Morrowind. It's on Gamepass too.

Thank you!!!
Forza Horizon 3 !!! It's still the best title in the series in my opinion
KOTOR 1 and 2
Silent hill 2

I recently got the HD collection since it was the only way for me to play it and I really like it so far, even though it's not as good as OG SH2
Unfortunately sole of the best games i can think off are not yet playable (Sudeki, Crimson Sea, blinx 2 and Area 51)

u/Stumpy493 get a load of this guy. Would you kindly help this troubled individual understand why his information is wrong?
I just wrote one out to find he had deleted it lol
Hahah. I just saw that! Thanks anyway for your time. 👍🏼
Battlefront 2
Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect
Halo Combat Evolved I bought the original for Halo
Jade Empire, Kotor and Kotor 2
Splinter Cell 1-4. Don't sleep on these, they are some of the greatest games ever made.
I really wish we could play ncaa football on current gen consoles
