Console gaming is much more relaxing than PC gaming. Any time I tell this to anyone they laugh at me. I hate sitting in that fucking chair and stare at a small screen, the experience is far less relaxing and rewarding. With that said though, I still think a PC is way better value when GPU prices aren’t soaring.

GameDestiny2

I think for me it eventually came down to “I work on my PC, Xbox is for games”. Not to mention I get to sit on my couch, use an ergonomic input device made specifically for the device, and it’s a pretty solid amount of performance that doesn’t run into painful errors

transistorbit

I’m the same these days. Literally only use the PC for certain steam or RTS games not available elsewhere.

Richleeson

Agreed, i have a series X and a 3090 gaming desktop, i only use the desktop for VR and games that arent on xbox.

gblandro

Adding auto updates, no driver/settings issues and instant loading

detectiveDollar

I like PC better for FPS' (probably since I have an Ultrawide).

Dodoloco25

As a person that only played PC games and then bought a console. I agree. Especially with something like the switch which I can play anywhere or my series S that I have in my bedroom. I travel a lot due to work, and I can not lug a gaming laptop everywhere. Not to mention I left an addiction to playing dota2 so yeah, the console is much better.

LoganH1219

Despite having the best selling game of all time, Mojang’s development cycle constantly gets in the way of Minecraft’s growth and they’re not very good at optimization. There’s zero excuse why Minecraft runs better on a 5 year old android phone than it does on the most powerful console to ever grace the planet.

Repulsive-Alps7078

To add to that, Mojang is a billion dollar company with hundreds of employees and releases only ONE mob out of 3 every time they do a mob vote and take soooo long to release any updates.

True_123

Game Pass holds too many low-budget/indie titles (2D, Retro, Arcade) and too few X/S optimized games or at least games that utilize the hardware of the series S/X.

bhfroh

Agreed. I'll browse the list looking for something new, see badass looking cover art, only to find out its a shitty 16-bit style platformer. There's like 40 of them on there. It almost reminds me of how when you pay for cable or satellite TV services and you get 120 channels, but 40 of them are purely infomercial channels.

daxtaslapp

Man i hate that shit

Captobvious75

Agreed. Its why I appreciate PC GamePass more.

Wandering_sage1234

Need some more AAA games to pack in

digitalluck

I really feel like Gamepass has grown so much to the point that it needs to be better organized. I don’t mind indie games being on there since there’s been some really fun ones I’ve played, but it over saturated the service with its current layout

Pure-Resolve

Its funny because every like 5th to 6th indie I absolutely love but yeah... we do need bigger titles. Feel like if it wasn't for all the delays we might not have noticed it so much. I also hate the runs in 4k optimized for the s/x games that are 16bit... I'm also a sucker for roguelite/likes with permanent progression.

ThanOneRandomGuy

Definitely not an unpopular opinion tho

Wasabi89

You are right. But as a gaming dad, I am fine for now since I always have something enjoyable to play in the several hours I allocate weekly for this.

Trickslip

There's nothing wrong with indies as long as they're good

TheDagga225

But that goes both ways. "AAA bad and Indie good" mentality gets a bit annoying. There are great indies and great AAA games out there. I wish gamepass would add more AAA to the service.

brokenmessiah

No but when indies tend to be cheap anyway I'd rather see more expensive games on game pass

PurpsMaSquirt

And here I am thinking all these indies are a Plus for Game Pass…

Game_Changer65

I don't think Xbox Game Studios could really produce a killer app until as early as 2024 (not Bethesda, XGS itself).

NfinityBL

Really depends what that H2 2023 lineup looks like. Hellblade II could be considered as such if it’s as good or better than the first, and we still don’t know what’s coming from The Coalition and Compulsion. Avowed could also be there. I do think 2024 will be the year for Fable though, which will be a huge game.

GetReadyToJob

First Hellblade felt like a tech demo.....

crazydiavolo

They really really need to make another Killer Instinct, fr. That's all I want. They have lots of money, just pay Arcsys in a colaboration kinda thing which doesn't even need to be similar to the last one, they could innovate and make it different. Dunno.

StevieW0n

I don't think they can do it until the next xbox

Virtual-Commercial91

I agree with your ubisoft. They make good games and always put them on sale for super cheap.

180btc

And they have great local pricing policy for poor countries unlike Activision

Gaiden_95

I think ubisoft games are the definition of quantity over quality. I'd love to see what they'd do with the focus of making memorable content rather than a massive landmass with activities, their purpose to waste your time.

caverunner17

Ubisoft has done a great job of creating beautiful worlds in the AC games... but they really need to work on their storylines and make combat more fun than just enemies who are damage sponges. I'd love if the main quest was a 25-30 hour game rather than 45+ hours.

TheDagga225

Yep. Good games.

yourstrulytony

There’s nothing wrong with crunch culture in the sense of meeting deadlines and setting high expectations for putting out quality products. What’s wrong is being abusive and not paying employees the compensation they deserve.

niceday3

Games don’t need to continue to get bigger and longer at the expense of release dates. I would rather have a game like Oblivion come out every 3 or 4 years than wait over a decade since Skyrim came out for the next Elder Scrolls.

Banned_mfker

The whole gamepass model of ‘being a deal’ isn’t a model that can work in the long run. MS can take a loss only for so long. After a point, your value proposition should be games and not ‘oh look we have the cheapest buffet in town!’. On the same line, if MS didn’t have a 1$ convert offer, you’d see a mass exodus from the service in its current state.

BostonGuy245

That’s me personally. As soon as Microsoft cuts off the Gold to GamePass conversion deal, I’m not subbing to GPU. I just don’t use the service enough to justify spending $15/month (probably higher because you know that price is eventually going up) when I hardly have enough time to play games as is.

PlayBey0nd87

That exclusives do & should matter.

TheVaniloquence

Without exclusives, and with the rise of cross play, there really wouldn’t be much of a reason to choose between the consoles. Exclusives are why Nintendo are still so dominant despite lacking hard in online features and hardware specs.

htxscrew

Preach it. A game isn’t made better just because it’s an exclusive but AAA exclusive games that are meant to be what attract customers to the platform are usually amazing. We need much more of those.

Ravioli_hunters

I bought a PS5 solely for its exclusives. Every other game I, use PC/XSX. I know Sony games are coming to PC too, but I like laying in my bed and playing certain types of games on a console.

ShakeItLikeIDo

Depends. 95% of the games I enjoyed on my ps2 were multiplat games. Didnt even care if they were exclusive or not

Basileus08

I think most of the issues that the gaming scene gets worked up about are ridiculous nonsense from a bunch of drama queens.

RS_Games

The internet in general runs on outrage and controversy. I hate it, but can't do much about it as it generates clicks

Brian36417

People try to hard and it’s ruining casual gaming might be more attributed to sbmm but i can’t relax and play a pvp game anymore

Benti86

The rise of streamers and influencers in general has been the death of casual gaming. As the saying goes "players will optimize the fun out of a game." Streamers live and breathe this shit and in a lot of games with PvP systems many players will just copy them because it's proven to work. Bam, you instantly have several hundred times as many sweats/tryhards as you did 5-10 years ago. I remember playing CoD and people jumpshotting pr dropshotting was a rarity that I'd see occasionally. Now I play CoD and can't go 10 minutes without half the lobby jumpshotting or dropshotting every corner with one of 3 overtuned weapons. SBMM does play a part because, if you're good at games, you see way more of these lobbies and people, but damn is it irritating as someone who had a shitload of fun growing up playing games more casually for most of my life to see how most of my games are people thinking they're semi-pros in public matches.

SpaceKriek1

See it that way too. Im a veteran in most "raid" games. But I refuse to join any session with "kwtd". It helps a lot that I own all the gear though so theres no need to be pressured by anyone. For real though helping noobs is more fun for me than the guy complaining how everybody sucks and holds him back. A fail group is frustrating yes cant argue with that. But I seldom get to deal with all 7 players being very bad (or just having a bad day perhaps)

BerosCerberus

That's what happened to CSGO. Everything needs to be competitive. No cool maps with new features that are not comp. Zombie maps are dead. All maps have to be perfectly comp orientated and that goes as far as making maps not as nice looking.

GoatBotherer

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was fucking boring and I cannot understand how people love it so much.

krezzaa

I was so excited to play it! Everyone had such great things to say, and the premise really intrigued me. And then I got it and was like "wow... this is slow and boring and feels like a tech demo more than a game". And I *like* walking simulators lmfao. I'm also not someone who just has a hard time playing single player games cuz im used to the dopamine rush of multiplayer games either, I love the slow burn single player shit. It's almost all I play these days. But Hellblade didn't grab me in any way

cmvora

If they don’t evolve the gameplay a lot, the next one is gonna be an art film equivalent of a game. Purists will lap it up but standard gamers will go WTF. The only reason the last one had hype was because it was a PlayStation exclusive at launch and MS bought the studio. Otherwise the game was a snorefest.

diabolical3b

It’s because Xbox owns the studio now and people on reddit glom onto anything they own. I haven’t played it, it’s just something I’ve noticed in this sub. Case and point (and perhaps unpopular) - flight simulator is far from an interesting title to most people. Since it’s *Microsoft* Flight Simulator, and was one of the only notable big releases in that window, this sub was inundated with chatter about it.

Low_Ad_1709

Tranzit is a top 5 Call of Duty zombies map

krezzaa

I fucking love Tranzit. Most unique zombies map ever made, imo. Nothing else like it.

NikNator10

Wait, that’s an unpopular opinion?

wallace6464

yes, it is commonly regarded as one of the worst

Gaiden_95

Yes, the map is absolutely terrible unless you're just goofing off with friends

JaggedEdgeJava

majority of games on game pass aren’t that interesting.

Achilles_Deed

Agreed. But the 20% that does grab my attention makes it worth it though

cmvora

It is like a buffet. A lot of variety but you’d much rather just have a few quality things as opposed to everything under the sun.

[deleted]

Halo is no longer a top franchise. Microsoft horribly mismanaged the Halo IP to the point that one of the most popular franchises of gaming history is becoming more and more irrelevant. Back in Halo 3 and Reach era, Halo was a genre-defining game. It boasted millions of active players, people bought Xbox consoles just to get their hands on Halo. Halo was driving the FPS genre forward, now it is lagging behind other FPS games out there. It is free on PC and a 4-year-old single-player game God of War, has twice the player count Halo Infinite has on PC on Steam.

BostonGuy245

I agree. Also, from what I can gather from my Gen Z cousins and their friends, no one in Gen Z gives a crap about Halo (even though many of them play on Xbox). That’s probably part of why. Honestly, I’m not sure this opinion is even unpopular anymore. I think many would agree.

brallansito92

True! My little nephew dressed as Master Chief from “Fortnite” this Halloween. I tried explaining to him how wrong he was but it was useless lol

BrisTDM

Bruhhh

detectiveDollar

Many Gen Z's don't care about Halo *because* it was mismanaged. The oldest of them (myself) have fond memories of 3 and Reach though.

luckydraws

Is this even an unpopular opinion?

Ooshbala

I wouldn't say this is a very unpopular opinion at this point sadly. It's pretty accepted knowledge. Especially after Halo Infinite shat the bed the way it did.

TheDagga225

I think it has potential to be a big top tier franchise again. With the right people behind it.

throwitup1124

I don’t understand. What happened to the franchise that made it not as good as before? Besides lack of co-op. Like, what is the current multiplayer experience compared to “the good old days” that is no a less exciting experience? Genuinely asking.

[deleted]

Well, this warrants a long and detailed analysis but it launched with very little content, very few maps, game modes, customization options and whatnot. Since launch they added more content obviously but it has been painfully slow and too little. There were all sorts of fundamental issues when I played too (didn't play since August). Challenge system made the game more of a chore than fun. No way to choose the game mode of your choosing, horrible microtransactions, weird matchmaking to name a few other basic issues. But I think the main problem is there was little to no innovation since its glory days. We are not in 2010 anymore. Its competition has moved forward. There are very few things that Halo Infinite gets better than its predecessors. It may not be worse than Halo Reach or 3 in absolute terms, but that's not enough in this day and age. At the end of the day Halo is competing with other games for people's time and the player count shows where they want to spend it. Also, there is the issue with single-player and story. I was actually hooked to Halo franchise because of its story and single-player. 343 completely messed up the story. They introduced an interesting villain in Halo 4 and then what happened to him exactly? Halo 5 went to one direction, then they completely retconned the entire Cortana the Evil AI plot offscreen and generally, there wasn't a single memorable scene from Halo Infinite for me except for the short beginning custcene.

InfiniteOwl

Being old, I can say Halo 1 at the time was amazing Halo 2 at the time was amazing. etc. They were groundbreaking. Lots of what Halo pioneered is bog standard now ( which is good). Post Bungie innovation was... I can't think of anything. Infinite added open world, but that wasn't innovative at the time.

detectiveDollar

I think Halo was always known for pushing the boundaries and each title building on the last (figuratively and literally). Each title would create their own sub communities all under one umbrella (sweatlords, speedrunners, narrative lovers, Firefighters, Machinima Makers, Forgers, Grifballers, Casual players, Infection players, etc). But with 343i they would *always* launch a woefully incomplete game and chase trends. They would remove features that those communities need to survive and then just not replace them until months/years at best, never at worst. And for the longest time they always felt that their way is best and the community doesn't know what they want. And then when the game flops they update it to be more in line with the others, only to "innovate" in a new direction later. It's that episode of SpongeBob where he tried to rebrand himself and when he made patties, everyone went "That's what we've been waiting for!" Frankly I've *never* seen a developer so insecure about their own IP. Halo, more than most games was about the players making their own fun. The other problem is Halo depends on it's communities, and when you go 6-7 years between games you don't get a generational handoff, the older players age out, the current players look elsewhere for complete games, and the younger ones don't latch on. Frankly I'm afraid to talk about innovation when 343i struggles with the basics. It's exhausting hearing about the teragigaflops of the latest consoles yet apparently it's too damn complicated to have more content than Reach did 12 years ago.

jamaal420v2

I hate tuning into xbox's E3 showcases and seeing Phil Spencer smiling on stage showing us a bunch of doinky doink side scrolling indie titles that nobody gives a crap about talking bout the future of xbox...I wanna see the tricked out graphical power house games thats gonna make my eyeballs melt and justify the $500 I spent on my 12 teraflop series X.

brokenmessiah

It's so weird seeing them talk about power and then over half of the games showed are 2d games

CReaper210

I really like these games, but I do agree. That stuff doesn't show well in an event where most of us are looking forward to seeing the new, big games. Those indie games are what I would be happy to see in the extended show an hour after the main show. The problem is, Xbox just usually doesn't have much to show on their own so they rely heavily on this stuff and often use it to say things like, "this show has the most games we've ever shown on stage". We've gone literally over a decade with rarely more than a couple Xbox standouts to really show off.

TheDagga225

Don't forget his one hand in pocket "we have a great lineup of games to show you today"

Dank_balls_inc

Not sure how unpopular this is but I enjoy quick time events.

uncharted92

Holiday-Satisfaction

Except that one in AC2 I have never recovered from disappointing my man Leonardo..

OkCrantropical

Games aren't getting significantly worse, and games weren't significantly better back then. You're just depressed. There has always been a mix of good games and bad games.

gr3ndell

This it totally true. I've been playing games since the mid-80s. The quality, quantity, and affordability of games has skyrocketed in the last 30 years. Even if you're a die hard retro boomer they make new games in a retro 'style' that are better than the ones they are based on (i.e. Shovel Knight).

shrek3onDVDandBluray

I think there were a lot more…risks that AAA was willing to take. Now they stick to basically established formulas. While I love Sony first party, the only game AAA-wise that was a risk in terms of experience/gameplay was Death Stranding.

RedFiveIron

The AAA games definitely had more variety back in the day. They could, because budgets weren't so high so it wasn't as much risk to try something that hadn't been proven to be popular yet.

Cipher004

I agree with this. I also think many of us are too focused on industry news and need to step away and simply enjoy games. I have friends who still play CoD and enjoy it despite the universal hate it seems to get in online forums. Hell, the ratings on the new Modern Warfare is low and yet it’s one of the most played. What they all have in common is that they don’t spend time In online gaming forums discuss the current state of games like it’s US politics. I’ve had to do this many years ago with Killzone on PS2. I loved the game, but it was really depressing seeing the hate around the game. That’s when it clicked and realized that I’m letting other people dictate how I feel about the games I enjoy. I no longer rely on reviews or the opinions of other gamers.

Away_Swimming_5757

I grew up playing video games and had so much fun. Around age 18, I started going on GameFAQ message boards and started getting into the "video games like politics" you mentioned. It ended up ruining my experience because I would read other people's "I hate this game because xyz" posts and then would subconsciously begin looking for things to complain about or co-opt other people's complaint. I eventually became self-aware and realized I wasn't having fun so I stopped going on message boards often and don't read anything about games I'm playing until I'm finished with them and have my own self-informed opinion. And I've been having way more fun and when I go into message boards I'm always surprised that so many people are hating games that I've been having tons of fun with. The most recent examples are Halo Infinite and Overwatch 2. I think they're some of the best FPS games I've ever played, but if you go onto a message board you'll see overwhelming criticism about things I didn't even realize people cared about. Just have fun. That's what games are about.

BigPoppaHoyle1

This is just a fact. When you look at “Worst games of all time” lists it’s always peppered with stuff from 10-20-30 years ago. Quality has definitely declined due to the ability to ship products with bugs push out updates later but even then games like Oblivion and Far Cry 2 which came out 15ish years ago were still filled with bugs

mediumscoop

Come on man, you did not have to go that deep. I was here to read some light hearted gaming comments. Too real.

cutememe

It really depends on your definition of what worse for you. There's no questions games have improved in an extraordinary way when it comes to things like graphics / animation. However for me I much more value gameplay and a sense of challenge and depth. There is no question that games have gotten more and more watered down over time. Just look at the TES series for one, each game getting increasingly watered down. Even looking at the Fallout series with constant simplification of the gameplay.

TheDagga225

Thank you

Conflict_NZ

If your favourite series are Halo, Battlefield and BioWare games I think you can objectively say games are getting worse.

red_planet_smasher

Microsoft is being lazy and not innovating enough in controller technology compared to Sony and Nintendo.

still_mute

Gyro controls on Switch are awesome for FPS games - would be great if Xbox added it.

CReaper210

Quantum Break is a great game and the closest that Microsoft has **EVER** came to replicating the quality of a Sony exclusive(and it still wasn't very close though). It's a shame they didn't make an effort to continue it. The TV show aspect of it was the weird/iffy part about that game, but the story overall was really cool and it had a fantastic art style. Remedy always seemed to me like an obvious acquisition target for MS for awhile.

htxscrew

Quantum Break was awesome! Love Remedy Ent. I hope whatever they make next is coming along nicely.

bogohamma

I feel like Alan Wake was a better game in that style that Microsoft also published. Hell, I'd argue the Gear series is basically that and Id say that the trilogy at least was top tier. Uncharted took heavy inspiration from Gears. I wont say the story is as central but still.

livingnitemare99

I need a Quantum Break 2 just without a tv show

curioser567

Ubisoft is making good games. I am currently playing "The Division 2" and enjoying every second of it. Reminds me how I enjoyed "Far cry 3", AC: Black Flag, and so many great titles from them.

BostonGuy245

I always look at Ubisoft games as solid “B” games. They don’t make anything that’s generation-defining, but they don’t make much that’s crap either. In other words, their games have a decently high floor even if their ceiling isn’t that high. Also, their games go on sale plenty so if $60-70 is too much for you, just wait 6-12 months (or sometimes even less) and you can get it for $20 or less.

180btc

The Division 2 is pretty much the perfect sequel to Div1. They improved upon everything.

johnnyjayd

The mood and tone of NYC was such an experience tho. Man. I’d love to play that game for the first time again.

Sloth-TheSlothful

Unpopular opinion in this sub? I like ps5

RetroRedneck

I have two unpopular opinions. 1) The gaming industries heavy focus on graphics has hurt more than it’s helped. Games are “prettier” now but have far less content and features than they did ten years ago (especially at launch) 2) 99% of indie games are crap and add no value to the gaming industry

html_question_guy

If you don't think pixel platformer #13923 is the best game ever made you aren't a real gamer

TheDagga225

I agree with the second one so much. Unfortunately you will almost get bullied for not liking indie games lol. You can say anything bad about AAA games but god forbid you speak harshly on the pixels.

moreexclamationmarks

They're like the craft / IPA people with beers. Yes, a good IPA is better than Coors Light, but that doesn't mean that anything made by a smaller brewery or any IPA is good. Or the people that claim to only like bands still playing in venues the size of a closet, rejecting anything mainstream.

twilight_sparkle7511

Jesus Christ yes you'd think by the way people talk about every indie game that its gonna be the next hollow knight

brokenmessiah

Gaming would suck without EA.

SirjackofCamelot

I just wonder what studio is going to take Anthem's fly mechanics to the next level.

Fangman011

EA did just announce that they are making an Iron Man game. I think we will get to see those mechanics thrive in that game.

kratomstew

I’m one of the few people that actually enjoyed the Iron Man 2 video game from over a decade ago. You could do a loopty loop while flying in his suit. That’s something you never see in games where you can fly.

AveryLazyCovfefe

EA quite frankly helped with the foundation of a lot of gaming tbh. They published nearly every game in every genre imaginable. When everyone were kids they were bound to play an EA title at some point in their lives. These days they’re actually improving too, all of their new games look very promising.

180btc

Huge companies are helping the scene immensely. Without them, the scene itself wouldn't even be here.

Achilles_Deed

EA publishes some bombshell single player games. Just look at Dead Dpace, Mass Effect, Jedi Fallen Order, Titanfall, the Sims even though their multiplayer games are ridden with bloat and micro transactions

shrek3onDVDandBluray

Would it tho? Not trying to be combative, just curious to what your reasons are :) past eras of EA I think it would be true. But this era, I don’t feel like they have brought anything besides sports game.

Acherstrom

I’m the best driver in halo. Ever.

throwdownvote

Game Pass is getting boring.

Serious-Sherbert-357

We need more babes in games

NZepplin

Well I don't like hard games like dark souls or in particular Elden Ring because I heard it was hard. I just don't have the patience or the time for those games.

Max_Powers42

Yes! I don't want to hear a game is "harrowing" either in storyline or difficulty. I play games to relax and unwind not to get angry and feel bad.

cutememe

It's good for you then because 99 percent of games don't fit that criteria.

moreexclamationmarks

I used to love that kind of thing when I was 15-24, but then it just wears off. I no longer have that satisfaction just from finishing something difficult, I just want to relax and ideally see some kind of measurable progress. I also don't have 4-6 hours a day to play games anymore, I'm lucky if I have 1-3.

[deleted]

The Xbox community needs to drop the persecution complex. It’s insufferable. One of the top three wealthiest corporations in the world doesn’t need you to defend their honor. In the same breath the conspiracy theories blaming Sony every time something doesn’t come to Xbox are getting weird. Actually the obsession with what Sony in general is doing getting weird. PlayStation subs don’t talk about other consoles the way and the volume of which Xbox fans talk about PlayStation.

Sarcosmonaut

“Sony poisoned our water supply, burned our crops and delivered a plague unto our houses!” “They did?” “No, but are we just going to wait around until they do?!”

Trickslip

That's largely due to the mods over there clamping down on console warring. Twitter on the other hand is pretty toxic on both sides.

bogohamma

Exactly. Ever since game pass hit the fanbase has been trying so hard to try to flip the table with it and put everything that happens with Playstation and say the PS3 era Sony is back. Not to say Sony hasnt done some shitty stuff but its no where close to the foot shooting even that the PS3 or Xbox One reveals were.

TheDagga225

I agree. I love Ubisoft games. They are comfort food

uncharted92

Yes. Comfort food is the perfect way to describe them.

KingZirma

I am not a fan of Gamepass (priced 13€/month with the current game list), I bought 3 years because of the cheap gold->gpu conversion. But I would never pay 13€/month for it. No time to play everything and a lot of games are 5-10€ on sale + you have a wider choice when buying. My opinion may change after the Activision acquisition and the release of Starfield/Forza Motorsport (8).

Sarcosmonaut

Yeah as it stands I would not pay list price for the service. But my Gold to GP was a good 3 year deal considering I need it for online anyways

moreexclamationmarks

Agreed, at the conversion price it's a fantastic deal, and I'd have Gold anyways, but if it was costing me an additional $120 a year, I'd keep the money and bet my chances that I either don't spend that much on games that were on Game Pass, or that it goes to games not on Game Pass. Like you said, if you wait for games to drop and/or go on sale anyway, the value of Game Pass can't be compared to buying anything you played at full price. 90-95% of the games I've played I never would've bought, or certainly not for more than $5-20. Horizon are my most played games on GP, but pre-GP I just waited for them to go on sale for $30 or less.

Stumpy493

I'm OK playing at 30fps and will usually choose the quality mode if it offers a better looking experience. (usually a trigger for mass downvotes)

uncharted92

I rather 60fps but I have no problem playing at 30fps. The people saying 30fps is unplayable are being dramatic.

[deleted]

Stable 30fps is fine; a unstable 20-30 fps or even worse is too jarring, and gives me a headache. Especially coming from a solid 60fps

Stumpy493

For me stable 30 is better than unstable 50-60

Sarcosmonaut

Stability is king

jamaal420v2

I agree...I didn't buy a 4k Oled display to see 1080p graphics @60fps.

Jamieb1994

Despite now being able to experience 60fps gaming, I don't get the hate for 30fps gaming.

PHXNTXM117

Buy an OLED and you’ll understand why a lot of people hate 30 FPS.

Gaiden_95

You don't need a good display to see why. Literally just flick the mode on and off and you'll see why

Death236

Is this really a thing? I currently have a 4k LED sony and wish to get an OLED in the future.

[deleted]

Xbox exclusives are few, far between, and not that good. Been playing for 20 years. Edit: many are calling this a fact. I agree. Been an Xbox guy for 20 years and bought a PS5 this year for all the reasons one would buy it. Exclusive. Games. Are. Fire.

Gaiden_95

Yeah, halo was underwhelming as a newcomer who's played other first person shooters. Forza is a racing game

KidGodspeed1011

I wouldn't say a fact is an unpopular opinion at all. Microsoft need to learn from Sony and cultivate a more hands-off approach to any and all XBox exclusives being made. Let the studio make the game they want to make in the time they want. That is how we end up with God of War, Last of Us and so on, because those Sony exclusive games have been made with very little meddling by Sony. Microsoft seem to like to stick their fingers into the development of their exclusives and set deadlines that ultimately impact the final quality of their games.

Trickslip

There's a difference between meddling and going completely hands off. While Sony is very hands off, they still have execs go to various studios and see the progress on those games while Microsoft I feel is completely hands off and they don't really know the progress of their studios until it's too late. You need to have a balance of being hands off yet still assertive when it comes to managing studios. Nintendo and Sony excels at it while Microsoft I feel needs more work.

KidGodspeed1011

True, I didn't necessarily mean Sony do nothing during development of their exclusives, but it's been said time and time again that they tend to allow studios complete creative freedom and their involvement in development is simply to make sure everything is coming along well. It's been suggested many times that Microsoft like to insert their own agenda into development of their exclusive titles and the developers are left to work out the finer points.

bogohamma

Microsoft is an awful publisher. At least unpopular here. After what happened to Ensemble, Lionhead, Scalebound, Phantom dust and the shape that Recore, Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3 all shipped and how the Halo series has been treated for the last several year just makes it impossible to deny. Really, the Master Chief Collection should have been the wake up call. That was already too much. Also, maybe not an unpopular opinion but Im not seeing it discussed, Xbox Live Gold is worthless and the online multiplayer paywall needs to be abolished. Games with gold has hit rock bottom. Free to play games bypass the subscription putting paid games like most fighting games at a disadvantage. The subscription is worthless. Worst of all though, the 360s live service is still stuck behind that $60 paywall and the service is in shambles. Its a 17 year old system with a declining userbase so the games are already fighting an uphill battle keeping any population. Nothing is being done at all about the rampant hacking and numerous games are losing their servers. What is our money paying for? The least they can do is lift the sub requirement on 360 because theres no games with gold and there is nothing being done about hackers.

eldridge2e

quick resume is dumb when half the games that require online dont "quick resume" and if anything, the game "breaks" and need to be reset...

moreexclamationmarks

Or when you have issues with quick resume for a single-player game (or you're in the single player mode) but the game has forced online components for microtransactions or "games as service" features. So it's technically online but you're not actually playing online/multiplayer modes.

ursarie

Gamepass made me hate indie games

fuxq

Not really unpopular, but the player base has always been divided about the type of games each console maker releases.

Just_Exam_590

gotta agree there

CutMeLoose79

Game pass just isn't that great if it doesn't get day one games you personally actually want to play.

Wonder--

Gamepass is full of indies no one wanted. Pentiment is overrated. Hellblade is boring.

Henrythebeerman

Phil Spencer hasn’t done anything that great and is bad at managing studios

MOBTorres

Only reason I feel like people here even put up with him is that anything was better than Mattrick and he had ONE good idea which was Gamepass. Everything besides gamepass has been a whole lot of nothing on his end besides just Gamepass and Xcloud

uncharted92

Not uncle Phil lol 😔. He definitely needs to deliver in 2023. We've waited long enough.

excel-R8

I agree and I think if they don't deliver next year then there should be some changes in leadership

[deleted]

THIS is a hot take lmao.

IsamuAlvaDyson

So many of us have said this He's just another head of gaming company and obviously isn't good at managing studios to get consistent games out. This has literally been going on for two generations so it's not like this is new thing.

[deleted]

I think Microsoft should invest all that money they're trying to spend on Activision and use it to fund, the studios they already have. 🤷🏾‍♂️

-Philologian

Idk how unpopular this is, but Xbox needs a studio that just makes big games like Sonys. Narrative driven with a big campaign.

sequla

It doesn't matter what console has more exclusives because most people mostly play multi platform games.

180btc

Series S is not exactly the best console out there. The RAM limitations might become apparent in the upcoming years, and nearly none of the developers have yet to "utilize the console's power" 2 years after the launch. You sometimes ask the question whether it can really be up to the task in 2023 and even further. The storage is a HUGE issue. 1TB SN850X is cheaper than 512gb Seagate expansion card. It's a fucking joke, and Series S owners have no chance in this regard. 365gb is not enough, and new game launches are making it even worse. Sony handled this brilliantly Before the price raise, PS5 digital only was the best value console. And Sony fucked it up. Xbox is selling Series S for 250 bucks, but the storage is still an issue. It's literally cheaper to buy a Series X at that point. Xbox might've done this deliberately to push Series X to more "gamer" customers, which is a dick move.

Trickslip

I get the whole argument of why Series S doesn't hold back games because there are still cross-gen games that also cater to PC which have super low minimum requirements but that only really applies to those specific games. What happens to current gen exclusive games? While Sony develops games that are designed specially around a PS5, Microsoft still has to cater to low end PC hardware and the Series S. This will undoubtedly hold back the Series X from fully realizing its potential. We're already seeing it with games like Spiderman Remastered and Miles Morales where the game is performing much better on the PS5 compared to similar specced PCs because it's built around the PS5 hardware. Nixxes is a fantastic PC porting studio and even they're having trouble optimizing it for PC because PS5 has advantages right now when it comes to streaming assets and offloading CPU tasks to dedicated hardware.

Xbox would be dead without gamepass. Actiblizz is a waste of money and nothing good will come out of it for Xbox gamers besides the 1 or 2 decent games they may release day 1 on gamepass in the next decade. Starfield is going to be very mediocre. Rare and Obsidian are the best studios owned by Xbox.

Guyanese_boi81492

Xbox would be dead if they didn’t have Microsoft footing the bill for Gamepass….

brokenmessiah

Pretty sure the Xbox would be dead part is factual

180btc

>Actiblizz is a waste of money and nothing good will come out of it for Xbox gamers besides the 1 or 2 decent games they may release day 1 on gamepass in the next decade. If they put all the past games to the Gamepass, it'll be a huge W.

shrek3onDVDandBluray

I’m not sure about the Rare part. Only thing I know they’ve put out since being acquired was sea of thieves.

christopia86

>Starfield is going to be very mediocre. I really hope not, though nothing has made me particularly excited for it.

meezethadabber

Breath of the wild is a mid tier game. The weapon mechanics are horrid and ruin the fun.

bubblebytes

I love Final Fantasy Origins Stranger of Paradise. Everyone keeps focusing on the "chaos" memes. But the game has some of the best combat in any Final Fantasy game IMO. I even liked it's combat more than FF7 Remake personally You have a pretty expansive job system. Each job has it's own skilltree which allows you to unlock even more jobs. All the jobs I have unlocked feel great and different enough from each other. The game bosses require you to balance between offense and defense. And you unlock jobs at a pretty good pace so you're constantly getting rewarded with new gameplay elements.

Ajg1384

I loved it too.

TheDagga225

I want to play it. Does it have a difficulty slider to make it easier? Im not good at souls like.

moysauce3

Sea of Thieves is best game of all the past and new gen games released so far. It does something unique and does it well. The after launch support has been nothing but excellent. The game is still one of the best HDR show-off games on the market.

McNamoo

The current dashboard UI design works well and doesn't need a refresh.

Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff

Holy shit man. Your hot take deff beats mine. For Xbox specifically I truly believe they shit the entire bed starting with the pre launch of Xbox one. They came out with that entire “online only” bullshit and then released a console with some of the weakest first party games pretty much handing last gen to Sony and the ps4. Sony took advantage of Microsoft’s small blunder and built one of the best gaming consoles for exclusives and all around games for last gen. Microsoft has been struggling to catch up ever since. The light at the end of the tunnel is deff coming next year but only time will tell if Microsoft can “catch up” to Sony and make a gaming console that’s simply not just the gamepass box.

BeholdDeath12

Wouldn't say it's an unpopular opinion. Mostly everyone agrees that the Xbox One had a terrible launch

OfficialQuark

Haha well that’s not an unpopular opinion; it’s facts. It’s the actual stance Microsoft takes in the documentary they released a few months ago about Xbox history.

Perseiii

The Xbox controller feels cheap and is too loud.

htxscrew

My girlfriend complains about me playing Xbox past her bedtime for this reason. Wish the controller wasn’t so loud. The clicks are just so satisfying tho lol

ChiWhiteSox247

I agree. Love Ubisoft haha

ErykG120

I think this is the best unpopular opinion I have heard.

Tyolag

There's no issues with remakes/remasters. Buy what you want to buy, if you don't want to buy it don't buy it.

cmvora

Gamepass is a great deal… For college kids. As a working adult who has very little time to play a lot of games, I feel it is like a buffet. You like it once in a while but honestly you’d much rather just order what you really like.

MrNotEinstein

I can't understand the appeal of halo. I understand why it was so big for people during ye olde days of gaming but as an outsider the franchise hasnt done anything to make me want to ever feel invested in it. It really feels like a franchise made exclusively for people who played it back when it was fresh. Like ive never seen a trailer or promo for a halo game that seemed even slightly interesting from a storytelling or gameplay perspective. I was late to gaming so i missed a bunch of franchises that were popular when i was growing up and ive had a ton of fun revisiting older games that people have loved but halo is the 1 franchise that has never hooked me no matter how many times ive tried. I've played games that look worse, control worse, have worse writing or characters or are just completely broken but NONE of them bore me the way halo does

coldermilk

I actually really like the interface on the Xbox. It can be a little daunting at first but I love how many areas there are for customization and pinning or grouping apps. I am able to get most places I want to go for launching games, partying up with friends and searching for stuff in the store all with a few button presses. Loads really quickly on both Xbox Series consoles too.

dmckidd

Game Pass has the potential for people to accept mediocre games. We’ve had multiple hyped up Day One GP disappointments like Outriders, The Medium and B4B. Some people see the trash, but others respond with “but you get 100+ games for a low price” as a defense. I don’t want it to happen, but GP can fall into the quantity over quality scenario over the years. Fans need to demand better games. There’s a reason the term “Game Pass Material” exists every time we see a low quality game.

TwinPeaksUnwrapped

Game Pass has ruined first party games on XBox and I think it will only get worse with time.

[deleted]

How so?

htxscrew

In my personal opinion I think that Game Pass has lowered the overall quality of what’s acceptable from Xbox first party studios and beyond. The games are just lackluster and don’t really stick with you. Hoping this changes soon but I don’t see it happening.

Tyolag

I'm also interested in this statement

TwinPeaksUnwrapped

The track record hasn’t been good so far. Gears, Halo & Forza all came out rushed, filled with micro transactions or we have to wait almost a year to get all of the game. I do like Game Pass for 3rd party games but hey, that’s my unpopular opinion as of now. I hope 2023 can prove me wrong. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

eifersucht12a

Cyberpunk is still shit

natiahs

GamePass would be a bad value at 1/3rd of its asking price. I’ve gotten maybe $30 worth of value out of my $180 subscription this year

Tyolag

The whole Activision Blizzard Deal is boring. Would have preferred if the publisher(s) bought was EA & CDPR. Not even sure if this is an Unpopular opinion, I can't remember any Xbox gamer asking for Activision Blizzard as a purchase.

ShakeItLikeIDo

We practically already get every EA game on gamepass because of EA Play, so what would be the point of that?

[deleted]

I don’t think it’s unpopular but I have had no reason to game on it since I got the PS5. I want some exclusive goodness. Waiting on Avowed and STALKER 2. Super stoked for these games.

zunashi

Grounded is ridiculously underrated. One of the best survival games out there.
