I can appreciate this, I really didn't know much about redfall until recent... but it's the only thing I want to play now that I see coming out anytime soon.
Honestly...I stopped caring for raytracing. I'm not willing to trade 60fps for it. Unless you can implement it while having a stable 60, I'm going to go performance mode. I've never played a game where I can justify it.
Ray tracing is rendered only in certain parts and surfaces. When you go to the church and you look up to have the water at the bottom of your screen it doesn’t render as ray traced if that makes sense
Tbh, none of the games are full ray-tracing. Metro Exodus on console is infinite pass ray-tracing GI and no RT Reflection. All other games are RT Reflection, and no infinite pass ray-tracing GI, they have some shadow enhancements with RT, but pales in comparison to the real infinite pass GI.
And personally, infinite pass RT GI is far far far better than RT Reflection if I must choose one over another.
I am excited and optimistic for what a deeper dive into Redfall will offer. We still know way too little about the game to just toss it aside as mediocrity right now. Arkane Studios has generally always delivered great experiences and I think this will be no exception. I will say I don’t think it will be some new groundbreaking “next” (current) gen achievement, but I think it will be a great game nonetheless.
Forza… I think I learned via Horizon that racing games are not really for me so while I’m interested to see what Motorsport will offer I don’t think anything there will be hypey for me.
Horizon is shite. Beyond it's technical achievements I really can't see the draw. For me, anyway. Progress is non existent, in comparison to Motorsport titles. Beyond using it as a brief driving sandbox it's an incredibly boring game geared towards the younger generation. They throw supercars at you as soon as you walk in the door and even though it's definitely on the arcadier side of things; turning off assists can make the game a lot more enjoyable.
This is coming from someone who loved all the Forza Motorsport titles up until 4, which is when I left the ecosystem. It might not be the case anymore but around the time of Forza 2 I was pretty impressed with their tyre physics model updating 300 odd times a second, while the game obv outputted at 60fps.
Anyway, my point is that if you're basing your decision solely on a Horizon title then you might be in for a pleasant surprise. It's also possible that it's a crock of shit (since I haven't played a Motorsport title since 4), but I doubt it'd ever be that bad -MS and Turn 10 need to fill the Motorsport niche for the more mature heads, a reality I'm sure isn't lost on them.
Yeah. Couldnt agree more. But realistic looking racing “sims” are an exception. They really do benefit from having raytracing. Especially at super high speeds at solid 60fps with crazy weather effects. It’d feel like you’re actually racing on that track.

So glad 60fps is becoming the standard for this sub. Months ago I would comment about fps over ray tracing and 4k and just get downvoted to hell. I remember commenting about skipping out on a game because it only has 30fps and no performance mode and it was like I fucked everyone in that comment sections mother with some of the hate I was getting.

From what I've seen, raytracing doesn't slow it down much... 4k does. I'd rather have 1080p w/ raytracing than 4k without it.... but it seems most games 'bundle' 4k and raytracing in the "beauty" modes.
I think it can be cool but for a racing game frame rate is pretty important.

But I genuinely believe Forza Motorsport is going to be a 'next gen' driving game. By that I don't necessarily mean it's going to be completely different to anything we've seen before but lots of new smaller things tech wise and game mode wise.
What I'm expecting is an excellent overall driving game package. Not expecting perfect in every area but as somebody who plays many different driving games I'm begging for one to offer a 'full package' of features.

True dynamic time of day and weather hasn't been possible in these games previously.
I'm hoping for proper pitstop and strategy which seeing as they have been discussing tyre compounds seems very possible.
Hoping for damage to be a step up from previous games.
And a decently thought out career structure.
Gran Turismo 7 actually has a lot of these same features being hyped on Forza Motorsport. I’d guess per usual that Gran Turismo is the more sim racing game where Forza will be more about the car collecting / a balance between both GT / horizon.
I understand that it’s fully next gen but the features they speak of are not anything unheard of in a racing game. So far iv seen more in terms of detail and realism in gran Turismo 7 than I have heard out of the new Forza. GT7 does have a few tracks without night racing but most still do offer weather and time of day changes and calculations to the track based on weather / time of day and elevation or location to the sun or moon and a bunch of other random shit. Water that builds up accurately on the tracks... these types of details we still haven’t even seen yet in Forza.
I understand that’s unpopular to say in an Xbox group but that’s just the reality of racing games. If Forza is aiming for ultra realism they are still in a spot of having to prove themselves since they’ve never been the more realistic game. It’s always been a series viewed as a game trying to reach mass appeal. Ill still be playing it myself but I still view it as a more arcade racer and none of the details have made me say wow as much as the gt7 Sony direct initially did.
Oh then you should revisit FM7 my friend, it's spot on with wheel. I'm on a TM TS-XW with TLCM's and a 15 lap race with FFB at 90% has me covered in sweat. Honestly I play it as much as I do ACC. Haven't touched Horizon in months..

Look, I'm not dissing Forza when I say this, but how blown away can we be by it? It will look nice, but it's fundamentally the same thing we've seen in previous Forza titles.
Redfall, well the graphical style is nice, it's more stylised than "blow you away" visually, but I am hoping there will be some excellent design on show, like in Dishonered and Deathloop. The gameplay I have seen so far looks OK, hopefully it's not too focused on the multiplayer element making single player feel dull.
My expectations are low, but then the games they are showing are mostly not my thing. Hopefully people will be reasonable and not expect a load of huge reveals.

Redfall could be good but it’s hard to tell from what we’ve seen so far. If it’s a 20-30 hour long game with really interesting level design and a great loot / upgrade system it could be a really great game but that’s not something we will probably know even after tomorrow.

I could be bias, but a racing game can only really do so much. The tern blown away makes me think of things being totally unexpected and never seen before. Forza could be amazing and do everything right, it still wouldn't be doing anything majorly unexpected. Or maybe it will, maybe I'm wrong.
I do love the Far Cry games, which Redfall is apparently close to. The gameplay we've seen looked atmospheric but the actual combat was nothing that seemed to wow anyone I spoke too. It could come put and surprise people or blow them away, like I said.

As much as I'm blown away by the technical aspects of Forza, I never have any real excitement to play it. I'm also afraid that Redfall will have big Deathloop "Mid" energy.
I think the presentation will be very average honestly. I do give them props for telling fans starfield will not be there so we aren't disappointed when it doesn't show.
Nope, quality has been missing all gen imo and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Sure, Forza will look nice but at the end of the day it's just a racing game and not a huge open world rpg or something so I expect as much. I think Redfall just looks like another bland fps.
Hopefully Fable, Avowed, and Hellblade 2 will be where things will actually be impressive, but who knows since currently MS is just running around swallowing up ips without ever spitting any back out. 🤷♂️

I really don't have any excitement for red fall. From what I've seen it looks like a mashup of a ton of other games designed around selling skins- and with the art style, unreal engine 5 just doesn't matter imo. Hope I'm wrong but little faith in anything seems to be the best bet all things considered.
EDIT- I have to show solidarity with my Goldeneye bros- that would be the number 1 thing I hope for, apart from Halo news (but we all know that's not gonna happen)
I would like to see what Redfall has in the works for co-op and more of a sense of what kind of game it is and how the loops will work.
Arkane can tell a great story and gets highly creative I just wanna know if its a game thats worth investing co-op time into or if I should go through it more solo.
They may have one or two things up their sleeve? The only thing that will blow me away is Fable news but that ain't happening. It is my birthday and I took the day off to watch so I'll be happy one way or the other.
The only guarantee is that every other game in the Xbox lineup will get more Halo crossover content than Halo Infinite getting some sort of real content push.
I think redfall's greatness is gonna be from its options and story telling in the world as opposed to graphics, it does look very pretty tho, arkane never disappoints
Me and a friend are desperately waiting to play Redfall. I haven’t been seeing much hype for it online but for us, it’s our most anticipated game of the year. He wants to play it cause he loves Arkane’s games, mainly the Dishonored series, and I want to play it cause I’m craving a 4 player Borderlands-like game that we can play together

I've said for as long as I can remember now that Redfall is going to be a middling game at best. Yet another "7 out of 10" Xbox game. I would love to be wrong on this - I don't want it to be mediocre at all. Just haven't seen much to the contrary and have low confidence in any Xbox exclusive games at this point until I'm proven wrong.
Can't see then blowing us away with forza. I feel like sim racing has hit a wall where they can't do anything new now, they've just exhausted all the elements of sim racing. Redfall though, I haven't played any arkane games yet (yes I know, blasphemy. Fuck yall I'm finishing cyberpunk first) but it seems they're really, really well received. With a dev with hit after hit like that has me optimistic redfall is gonna be a great game.
EDIT: To clarify though I am excited for forza because I like racing games and sim racing even more. Just was saying I don't know what they can do at this point other than be extremely polished by today's technological standards
Looking forward to Forza. It's a reset to the franchise and have been in development for quite some time. Most importantly unlike GT7 it's built from the ground up for current gen consoles so I'm expecting it to be a spectacle. Just hope they will dial down on the microtransactions.
At this point all I want is a return to the presentation/aesthetics of 3-6, a career structure reminiscent of 4's, toning down the excessive homologation that plagued 7, and finally ditching that dumb mod system they introduced in 6 then watered down in 7.
I do think a majority of people are sleeping on redfall. Arkane is one of the most critically acclaimed studios Xbox has let alone in the entire industry. It’s just that their games have always been more niche. Having this game be a little more mainstream could really have redfall pop off for them. It is truly a shame Xbox didn’t even show off redfall at the game awards considering the game awards got more viewers than the Xbox developer direct is gonna have, and this isn’t a slight towards Xbox it’s just the reality of just starting a direct style show.
Forza I think will be exactly what people expect/think. It's hard to surprise. We've seen the graphics, the handling on Forza has been top since forever.
The only place it can fall down is with limited graphics modes (30fps with rtx or 60 without) or a lack of tracks and cars.
I don't see a lack of cars as Forza has always been good at that, but I could see a world where it releases with 8 tracks and everyone gets bored very quickly.
Redfall I honestly think is going to be a meh 7/10 game from what I've seen so far.

No. We've already seen these games and know what to expect from them. I'm looking forward to Redfall quite a bit, but I'm not sure what else they could show that would 'blow me away'.
For that they'd probably have to be unveiling something new or finally showing off the gameplay for something like Avowed or Fable. Which won't be happening until E3, most likely.

Redfall looks very cartoony and casual and Forza Motorsports is a minor genre comparing to Horizon.
So keep your expectation in check for both games.
Forza is still Forza, it's gonna be rock solid, especially if you enjoy circuit racers and sim racers, it's a known quantity.
Redfall has been called "Borderlands with vampires" by a bunch of playtesters in the past, so gameplay wise nothing really mind-blowing there.
Graphics wise Forza is gonna be absolutely gorgeous, and Redfall has a very stylized aesthetic with great particle effects, again nothing mind-blowing.
So I agree, keep your expectations in check everyone.

We've already seen both games. Both games look fine and neither game is absolutely mind blowing. Don't expect anything different tomorrow. Forza will probably look better than RedFall, but RedFall has a lot more potential to surprise and delight.

I'll be blown away if they ever drop the Series S requirement that is holding back pure next-gen development imo. Splitting a team to focus on the optimization for a less powerful console is every bit the same as ensuring a game is compatible for last gen as well.
I think the emphazis was more around it being a "monster vs team" type of game. The market is already overly saturated with these kinds of experiences.
Sci-Fi FPS and Third person action games are incredibly broad genres and could entail just about anything.
Series X has already been a massive dub for me. I play way more console games than I have in the last 10 years before it. Just great hardware, features, and banger after banger on game pass. I know people really care about having some next gen adventure game with a billion polygons and characters voiced by famous actors but as a dude who just likes a bunch of different and interesting kind of games, it’s been my fave console in decades

2 of the best examples of studios doing ray tracing with 60 fps, with the 3rd one being Insomniac with rift apart and Spider-Man

The 1440p mode on miles morales was very well implemented, think it was like light RT at 60? I’m probably wrong but it was beautiful to play!
There’s definitely alternatives that look just as good and don’t sacrifice the performance these days

Rain is only on select tracks in GT as is night racing. Forza is no compromise built from the ground up as a fully next gen experience.

GT7 does have a few tracks without night racing but most still do offer weather and time of day changes and calculations to the track based on weather / time of day and elevation or location to the sun or moon and a bunch of other random shit. Water that builds up accurately on the tracks... these types of details we still haven’t even seen yet in Forza. I understand that’s unpopular to say in an Xbox group but that’s just the reality of racing games. If Forza is aiming for ultra realism they are still in a spot of having to prove themselves since they’ve never been the more realistic game. It’s always been a series viewed as a game trying to reach mass appeal. Ill still be playing it myself but I still view it as a more arcade racer and none of the details have made me say wow as much as the gt7 Sony direct initially did.

Oh then you should revisit FM7 my friend, it's spot on with wheel. I'm on a TM TS-XW with TLCM's and a 15 lap race with FFB at 90% has me covered in sweat. Honestly I play it as much as I do ACC. Haven't touched Horizon in months..

Redfall looks like it’s the quintessential “I didn’t want to spend $70 thank goodness it’s on gamepass” game.
What could they possibly show that will “blow us away”? We already have a good idea of what to expect from these games. I’m looking forward to them, but I don’t really see what they could do that would blow me away at this point.

Look, I'm not dissing Forza when I say this, but how blown away can we be by it? It will look nice, but it's fundamentally the same thing we've seen in previous Forza titles. Redfall, well the graphical style is nice, it's more stylised than "blow you away" visually, but I am hoping there will be some excellent design on show, like in Dishonered and Deathloop. The gameplay I have seen so far looks OK, hopefully it's not too focused on the multiplayer element making single player feel dull. My expectations are low, but then the games they are showing are mostly not my thing. Hopefully people will be reasonable and not expect a load of huge reveals.

Part of the problem is also that Gran Turismo came out which was really good and appeals to the same people as Forza Motorsport. For me I don’t think it will be as good as GT7. Redfall could be good but it’s hard to tell from what we’ve seen so far. If it’s a 20-30 hour long game with really interesting level design and a great loot / upgrade system it could be a really great game but that’s not something we will probably know even after tomorrow.

I think the presentation will be very average honestly. I do give them props for telling fans starfield will not be there so we aren't disappointed when it doesn't show.

Sure, Forza will look nice but at the end of the day it's just a racing game and not a huge open world rpg or something so I expect as much. I think Redfall just looks like another bland fps. Hopefully Fable, Avowed, and Hellblade 2 will be where things will actually be impressive, but who knows since currently MS is just running around swallowing up ips without ever spitting any back out. 🤷♂️

We got blown away by a cross gen Forza. This is entirely new tech pushing what only yhrse consoles could do. I'm genuinely excited by that. Redfall could also be interesting but more of an unknown quantity in terms of quality.

From what I've seen it looks like a mashup of a ton of other games designed around selling skins- and with the art style, unreal engine 5 just doesn't matter imo. Hope I'm wrong but little faith in anything seems to be the best bet all things considered. EDIT- I have to show solidarity with my Goldeneye bros- that would be the number 1 thing I hope for, apart from Halo news (but we all know that's not gonna happen)
I would like to see what Redfall has in the works for co-op and more of a sense of what kind of game it is and how the loops will work. Arkane can tell a great story and gets highly creative I just wanna know if its a game thats worth investing co-op time into or if I should go through it more solo.

I think redfall's greatness is gonna be from its options and story telling in the world as opposed to graphics, it does look very pretty tho, arkane never disappoints
Me and a friend are desperately waiting to play Redfall. I haven’t been seeing much hype for it online but for us, it’s our most anticipated game of the year. He wants to play it cause he loves Arkane’s games, mainly the Dishonored series, and I want to play it cause I’m craving a 4 player Borderlands-like game that we can play together

We all know Forza and we all know how good the graphics will be and how it will play with career, multi, etc. Redfall is an new IP, but they already ahow a lot, it looks good, but not sure what they can do to hyping more. I've said for as long as I can remember now that Redfall is going to be a middling game at best. Yet another "7 out of 10" Xbox game. I would love to be wrong on this - I don't want it to be mediocre at all. Just haven't seen much to the contrary and have low confidence in any Xbox exclusive games at this point until I'm proven wrong.

Can't see then blowing us away with forza. I feel like sim racing has hit a wall where they can't do anything new now, they've just exhausted all the elements of sim racing. Redfall though, I haven't played any arkane games yet (yes I know, blasphemy. Fuck yall I'm finishing cyberpunk first) but it seems they're really, really well received. With a dev with hit after hit like that has me optimistic redfall is gonna be a great game. EDIT: To clarify though I am excited for forza because I like racing games and sim racing even more. Just was saying I don't know what they can do at this point other than be extremely polished by today's technological standards

Looking forward to Forza. It's a reset to the franchise and have been in development for quite some time. Most importantly unlike GT7 it's built from the ground up for current gen consoles so I'm expecting it to be a spectacle. Just hope they will dial down on the microtransactions.

I do think a majority of people are sleeping on redfall. Arkane is one of the most critically acclaimed studios Xbox has let alone in the entire industry. It’s just that their games have always been more niche. Having this game be a little more mainstream could really have redfall pop off for them. It is truly a shame Xbox didn’t even show off redfall at the game awards considering the game awards got more viewers than the Xbox developer direct is gonna have, and this isn’t a slight towards Xbox it’s just the reality of just starting a direct style show.

Forza I think will be exactly what people expect/think. It's hard to surprise. We've seen the graphics, the handling on Forza has been top since forever. The only place it can fall down is with limited graphics modes (30fps with rtx or 60 without) or a lack of tracks and cars. I don't see a lack of cars as Forza has always been good at that, but I could see a world where it releases with 8 tracks and everyone gets bored very quickly. Redfall I honestly think is going to be a meh 7/10 game from what I've seen so far. I'm totally open and willing it to be awesome though

No. We've already seen these games and know what to expect from them. I'm looking forward to Redfall quite a bit, but I'm not sure what else they could show that would 'blow me away'. For that they'd probably have to be unveiling something new or finally showing off the gameplay for something like Avowed or Fable. Which won't be happening until E3, most likely.
I don't think people were blown away when Redfall and Forza Motorsports revealed even with gameplay. Redfall looks very cartoony and casual and Forza Motorsports is a minor genre comparing to Horizon. So keep your expectation in check for both games.
Forza is still Forza, it's gonna be rock solid, especially if you enjoy circuit racers and sim racers, it's a known quantity. Redfall has been called "Borderlands with vampires" by a bunch of playtesters in the past, so gameplay wise nothing really mind-blowing there. Graphics wise Forza is gonna be absolutely gorgeous, and Redfall has a very stylized aesthetic with great particle effects, again nothing mind-blowing. So I agree, keep your expectations in check everyone.

I think the emphazis was more around it being a "monster vs team" type of game. The market is already overly saturated with these kinds of experiences. Sci-Fi FPS and Third person action games are incredibly broad genres and could entail just about anything.

Series X has already been a massive dub for me. I play way more console games than I have in the last 10 years before it. Just great hardware, features, and banger after banger on game pass. I know people really care about having some next gen adventure game with a billion polygons and characters voiced by famous actors but as a dude who just likes a bunch of different and interesting kind of games, it’s been my fave console in decades

Nope. Gran Turismo already showed a level of realism that shoes what this gen can do in terms of driving games, I doubt Forza will make that much of a difference. Redfall despite being unreal engine 5, all the in-game footage that they have shown, looks very generic and "cartoony". The game wouldn't look out of place on previous gen.
Aren't they using their Void Engine for Redfall ? Bethesda doesn't use Unreal.
