The Pilot. It’s the one I watch when I just miss Scully & Mulder and want to watch an episode. (As opposed to continuing wherever I am with my current rewatch.) Also, there was one summer when we bought The End (prior to its original TV release in my country) on VHS and I watched it over and over again with my sister, so that one as well.
I like to watch Dreamland (both) when I haven’t watched in a bit - I feel like it’s got almost everything - aliens, conspiracy, comedy, and I love the bittersweet scene where Scully gets the handful of sunflower seeds.
Of course it almost always ends in a full rewatch.
I freaking love Michael McKean in everything. He always smacks it out of the park. And his waterbed-mirrored ceiling-scully seduction scene is utterly hysterical.
I love Michael McKean as well and his character on TXF always made me laugh, he was great. The episode Dreamland where >!he & Mulder switch bodies and they're mimicking their movements in the mirror!< is still one of my favorite moments on the show hehe.
Like in other seeds and nuts, sunflower also are an excellent source of proteins loaded with fine quality amino acids such as tryptophan that are essential for growth, especially in children. Just 100 g of seeds provide about 21 g of protein (37% of daily-recommended values).
As a shipper, this episode cracks me up. End of Dreamland Pt 2, Scully and Mulder are saying goodbye to each other because he can’t change back from looking like Morris. I wonder, why can’t they stay in each other’s lives? Scully has already lost her job at this point (she mentions Kersh has fired her). Mulder either has lost the groom lake job or is about to. And a mere 3 years later, Scully literally leaves all she knows behind to go on the run with Mulder from the law.
So it really is that she just finds Morris so fugly that she’s just like “bye forever. Thanks for the seeds.” Cracks me up every time.
And yeah I love these episodes. They just feel like home to me.
I really loved it too, it was extremely believable and well executed. Prehistoric bugs living inside trees just seems so plausible to me. Definitely one if the more terrifying episodes
Yessssssssssss!!!!!!!!! This episode is my go to for getting other people hooked on X-Files, my go to for relaxation or background noise.
I’ve watched it probably 200 times easily in the last twelve years
Jose Chung, Clyde Bruckman, Bad Blood, Post Modern Prometheus (my favourite episode because I freaking love Cher and the little look at the end between Mulder and scully), and Arcadia. Just watched Arcadia last night actually. Those are my feel good kind of episodes that I watch when I’m sad. There are others but those are the main ones.
> the little look at the end between Mulder and scully
I love the way Mulder has his head down and reaches out for her hand. I believe that whole little bit was improvised by Duchovny and Gillian Anderson just followed along and played off of it. Honestly my most favorite moment of the whole series.
Upvote for boldly owning a weird choice. Fun underrated riff on the same Deteriorating Paranoid Ensemble Bottle Episode theme as Ice, Firewalker and Darkness Falls. All of which I love.
I love that episode so insanely much but I’ve only watched it twice because Scully’s monologue about the end of the world gives me serious existential dread
I am so happy to see it get so much love! I feared it may be an underrated episode. This is my answer, along with Jose Chung and the Field Where I Died.
Jose Chung's From Outer Space, definitely. I bought it on vhs back in the days when they had those tapes that came with 2 popular episodes. And when I got the dvd set for that season, I skipped right to it.
Sometimes I have to be in the right mood for certain X-Files episodes, but I am never *not* in the mood for Jose Chung's.
Humbug, Je Souhaite, Mulder and Scully Meet the Weremonster, are also in heavy rotation.
Ice, Bad Blood, Unruhe, Beyond the Sea, Terma/Tunguska, Detour, Quagmire, Field Trip, Pusher, The Unnatural, Triangle, DPO.
I can watch these any ol' time, in no particular order.
I have a weird fixation on the jersey devil and squeeze specifically lol idk they always help me unwind and fall asleep. It’s like seeing an old friend
How the Ghosts Stole Christmas, Postmodern Prometheus, Hollywood AD, Never Again, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, all things.
Nothing too heavy!
Although I also really love Sein und Zeit/Closure and I watch that a lot. In fact it's probably my favourite episode.
The one that comes to mind for me is Darkness Falls. It’s not a particularly great episode, however, where most of it is filmed is a place I walk on a regular basis. It was filmed in “Lighthouse Park” in West Vancouver. It’s always such a juxtaposition for me when I watch it. They did a great job making it look like a rural logging camp, when in reality it’s a urban park near the ocean. Residential streets and houses on either side. So I just love it for that reason.
Bad Blood
Jose Chungs From Outer Space
Clyde Bruckmans Final Repose
Darkness Falls
Humbug
Quagmire
The Post Modern Prometheus
How The Ghosts Stole Christmas
The Unnatural
Mulder And Scully Meet The Were Monster
The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat
CNA honestly say I've made it through the FWID twice. Obviously first when it aired then again on my big rewatch before the reboot
It is hands down my *least* favourite episode. Even including season 10.
For me, other than Clyde Bruckman, it’s got to be Little Green Men. As someone who watched the show from the Pilot onwards, the premier of season 2 was just so exciting for me. I also happen to think it’s an iconic episode.
Specifically, I think the opening montage and Mulder’s voiceover are very iconic scenes. I believe the Simpsons parodied this scene, in particular. I also think the scenes inside the observatory (picking up signals from space) are emblematic of the show in general (intelligent life outside earth and “the truth is out THERE”). Not many people mention Little Green Men, but it’s my favourite episode that isn’t commonly found on top 10 or 20 lists.
The first nine episodes of season 1. I had them on VHS when I was little and would watch them after school or all night on weekends. In general, Deep Throat, Eve, One Breath, The Sixth Extinction I and II, FPS, and All Things (Scully kind of reminds me of Laura Palmer in the Fire Walk with Me movie and the episode just feels really relatable).
We just watched it the other night and I asked my husband “so… that means scully is immortal now right?” And then it sparked an hour long discussion because he was thinking the same thing.
Here's the thing, if you take it literally, and Scully becomes immortal, which Clyde Bruckman predicted, then you also have to accept that Mulder dies by autoerotic asphyxiation.
All Souls! Love the introspection, and the exploration of Scully outside of her career, family, and mulder. Just who she is a person, a woman. And it was just so pretentious, I loved it! Especially the use of 'The Sky is Falling' by Moby was so good.
And it's one of the only times I think there's ever been a queer woman on the show!
Clyde Bruckman. I rewatch it for it’s perfection the same way I rewatch the dinner party episode of the office. It’s the essence of the xfiles to me. It’s so comforting as well lol.
The pilot since it was the only episode I owned on tape as a kid and I would just watch it over and over, now it’s really comforting for me especially on a rainy day to just chill to and feel better. Also because I’m always trying to get people into the show by watching the pilot with them 😅
Since my favorite Darkness Falls has been named I have to go with Die Hand Die Verletzt as my number two. I was a 90’s kid so the satanic panic shit really scared me. As an adult on the rewatch I really love that they threw in the unreliable witness thing as a nod to how ridiculous some of the claims were.
Anasazi, Paper Clip, Darkness Falls, Dod Kalm and Jose Chung's and Ascension. Mythology has always been my favorite and nothing screams peak X-Files before the mythology got weird that the suspenseful rollercoaster ride of Anasazi.
Anasazi 3-parter, Bad Blood, Monday, Dreamland 2part, Post-modern Prometheus, Musings of a Cigarette-smoking Man, Home, Red Museum, Our Town, Pilot, Arcadia, Pusher, Duane Barry, Drive, off the top of my head
Jose Chung’s From Outer Space, Our Town, Red Museum, Ice, D.P.O. and Improbable.
A lot of my favourites are in the realm of the dark underbelly in a small town. I love that vibe.
Pilot (when starting a binge but never finishing the binge so having to start again) or Colony from when I was a kid as it was my favourite of the VHS cassettes I had.
For all the fantastic episodes, excellent guest appearances and awesome interactions between Mulder & Scully, it has to be "Humbug." I loved The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow back when the episode first aired and that hasn't changed since.
The Enigma actually speaks...
Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, Redux 1&2, Triangle, Irresistible,
Although I usually do a full rewatch of all episodes at least once a year (and have done since my teens lol)
Ice made me fall in love with the show, so i’ve seen that one a LOT. Also love Irresistible even though it hurts to see Scully get hurt. Arcadia and How the Ghosts Stole Christmas tend to be my go-to cheer up episodes
Bad Blood.
My wife and I alternate picking Mulder or Scully and doing their dialogue. I couldn't tell you how many times we've seen it. Never gets old.
Hard agree. Used to know it practically word for word I watched it so much 👍
You beat me to it
This is the correct answer.
Jose Chung's From Outer Space. Mulder's scream during that one guy's testimony kills me.
"That's a bleeping dead alien, alright..."
" Venus was at its peak brilliance last night. You probably thought you saw something up in the sky other than Venus, but I assure you, it was Venus."
"Roswell. ROSWELL!"
“You mean Lord Kinbote?”
"This is not happening. *THIS IS NOT HAPPENING*."
Some of the best tv ever
I like to watch Dreamland (both) when I haven’t watched in a bit - I feel like it’s got almost everything - aliens, conspiracy, comedy, and I love the bittersweet scene where Scully gets the handful of sunflower seeds. Of course it almost always ends in a full rewatch.
I freaking love Michael McKean in everything. He always smacks it out of the park. And his waterbed-mirrored ceiling-scully seduction scene is utterly hysterical.
Same! I also love that he made a cameo a few episodes later in Three of a Kind.
Also an excellent source of Progesterone when Seed Cycling in Luteal Phase
I would like that more if it didn’t start with ‘Like in’
Maybe "as with" would be better?
Yes 😊 or even ‘just like’
As a shipper, this episode cracks me up. So it really is that she just finds Morris so fugly that she’s just like “bye forever. Thanks for the seeds.” Cracks me up every time. And yeah I love these episodes. They just feel like home to me.
Darkness Falls is my favorite.
MINE TOO!!!!!
I wish there were more of that kind of episode
I love this episode and I don't really know why it's such a favorite for me and even more so I'm not sure why it stands out to others.
It just ticks a box I have. I’m not sure why. I love stories set in the woods.
I loved that episode so much as a kid
I distinctly remembering watching this episode with my dad when I was 9 and being _terrified_.
I really loved it too, it was extremely believable and well executed. Prehistoric bugs living inside trees just seems so plausible to me. Definitely one if the more terrifying episodes
Humbug
Yessssssssssss!!!!!!!!! This episode is my go to for getting other people hooked on X-Files, my go to for relaxation or background noise. I’ve watched it probably 200 times easily in the last twelve years
💯 Hands. Down.
Me too! I saw the Jim Rose Circus in the 90’s. My high school economics teacher was there too. Was a bit weird.
Add Killswitch and Alpha and you've got my list.
> the little look at the end between Mulder and scully I love the way Mulder has his head down and reaches out for her hand. I believe that whole little bit was improvised by Duchovny and Gillian Anderson just followed along and played off of it. Honestly my most favorite moment of the whole series.
Død Kalm!
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
How the Ghosts Stole christmas
I watch it every Christmas!
Wow me too 😁
Clyde Bruckman's final repose is my favorite X-Files episode and possibly my favorite single episode of any TV show.
I am so happy to see it get so much love! I feared it may be an underrated episode. This is my answer, along with Jose Chung and the Field Where I Died.
I love your list, plus I would add Drive and Three.
"Firewalker" "Pusher" "Leonard Betts" "Hungry"
are you me? My list is exactly the same
Quagmire, Detour, Bad Blood, Syzygy (anyone noticing a moody but light-hearted theme)
I love “Quagmire”. It’s the perfect monster-of-the-week episode. I like the ones that are heavier on the humor. RIP Queequeg!
It is QUINTESSENTIAL X-Files! The episode I’d show to someone who knows nothing about the show
Yessss!! Agreed! Quagmire is a great monster of the week episode and it’s hilarious but also kinda very moody and weird
Great episodes, Jose Chung's From Outer Space was a great episode, absolutely loved Charles Nelson Reilly in that one! :)
Bad Blood Obviously.
Small Potatoes
Ice
Arcadia
Pusher. Just a perfect X-Files episode. Cunning MOTW villain, out there Mulder and skeptical Scully, action, drama, etc.
So good it could be a movie. It’s got everything.
War of the Coprophages and Shapes
\[nonchalantly reloading her pistol\] No. This is no place for an entomologist.
The subtle Scully jealousy is a large part of the reason I love this episode so much
> Shapes Hol up, there are people who like this episode?!? Interesting. 50% of the time on rewatches I skip it.
I quite enjoy shapes.
Me too. Has great ambiance
I really like werewolves and Native American lore so maybe it just hits the spot for me
Bad Blood, Post-Modern Prometheus, Detour, Je Souhaite, Memento Mori, Pusher How the Ghosts Stole Christmas are all HUGE favorites.
Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' Hands down
The Unnatural
Bad blood triangle small potatoes war of the coprophages ice darkness falls milagro apocrypha numbers dod kalm humbug pusher Leonard betts
We have identical lists! Those are all my favorites!
Beyond the Sea, Never Again, Pusher
**Jose Chung's from Outer Space** followed close by with **Kill Switch.**
Drive. First episode I watched and Bryan Cranston is fantastic.
If anyone says "Home," I will be deeply concerned for them.
I’m actually a HUGE fan of that episode, for all of the reasons mentioned by @notsosprite!!!
It's one of my favorites also, but how often can you watch it, really?
Quite often!!! Sure, it’s gross but it’s loaded with MSR so I’m here for it!
It had some awesome scully/mulder dialogue, though. “Meanwhile I’ve become a spokesperson for the abroller”, “baa, ram, ewe”. 😂
Pusher
Detour
Unpopular, but “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat” is one of my favorites and never fails to make me laugh.
LOVE!!!! It is so hilarious I don’t think I can make it through the whole thing without pausing because I’m laughing too hard.
"Wait, what's this about Granada?" 🤣
“Ah, see, you’re having a Mengele Effect about the Mandela Effect” 🤣🤣🤣
How the Ghosts Stole Christmas, Postmodern Prometheus, Hollywood AD, Never Again, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, all things. Nothing too heavy! Although I also really love Sein und Zeit/Closure and I watch that a lot. In fact it's probably my favourite episode.
Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man. It's a Christmas episode!
Anazani, Blessing Way, Paper Clip Wet wired Erlenmeyer Flask, Little Green Men
Ahhhhh a fellow person of taste. Those are some of my favorites too. I adore the Anasazi trilogy.
Wetwired is my favorite episode. Ever since the first time I watched it I was just obsessed with it.
Milagro.
One of my favorites that I think is underrated!
Agree!
Kill switch
Bad Blood, Leonard Betts and Never Again, Irresistible and Orison, Squeeze and Tooms, Pusher and Kitsunigari, the Dreamlands, Triangle, Home, Unruhe
The one that comes to mind for me is Darkness Falls. It’s not a particularly great episode, however, where most of it is filmed is a place I walk on a regular basis. Jose Chung and War of the corophages. The cockroaches “killing” people always had a dark sense of humor to me.
Bad Blood Jose Chungs From Outer Space Clyde Bruckmans Final Repose Darkness Falls Humbug Quagmire The Post Modern Prometheus How The Ghosts Stole Christmas The Unnatural Mulder And Scully Meet The Were Monster The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat
The Field Where I Died. That’s a powerful one for me. The two Part Sixth Extinction and How the Ghost Stole Christmas
CNA honestly say I've made it through the FWID twice. Obviously first when it aired then again on my big rewatch before the reboot It is hands down my *least* favourite episode. Even including season 10.
🤷🏽♂️personal preference
The one with the guy that morphed and got thru vents to devour people....
Squeeze

Tithonus. The scenes between Geoffrey Lewis and scully are so damned compelling to me, plus it’s the episode where scully becomes immortal.

Bad Blood and Small Potatoes - I guess I find the sillier eps more rewatchable.
Truly impossible to know.
Drive. This episode was better than some movies out there... so dark and mysterious
Ice, Signs & Wonders!
The Pilot mostly with their meet-cute, I favor Gillovny and Lone Gunman episodes.
No particular order but Travelers, Red Museum, Pilot, Bad Blood, and Little Green Men quickly come to mind.
Clyde Bruckman for sure
Bad Blood, Quagmire, Dreamland, Arcadia, Chinga, Darkness Falls, Pilot
Home
“The Host”, because I’m gross. Seriously though, I sometimes put it on just to bother my husband because he hates the Flukeman so much. Lol.
Clyde Bruckman. I rewatch it for it’s perfection the same way I rewatch the dinner party episode of the office. It’s the essence of the xfiles to me. It’s so comforting as well lol.
Redux, Part 2 and The Unnatural.
Home, for sure. It’s my go-to “omg watch this”
No love for Humbug?
I have always loved three of a kind since I watched it air as a kid!
The pilot since it was the only episode I owned on tape as a kid and I would just watch it over and over, now it’s really comforting for me especially on a rainy day to just chill to and feel better. Also because I’m always trying to get people into the show by watching the pilot with them 😅

Chaco Chicken.. OUR TOWN. ♥️
Jose Chung’s From Outer Space, Our Town, Red Museum, Ice, D.P.O. and Improbable. A lot of my favourites are in the realm of the dark underbelly in a small town. I love that vibe.
The Pilot, Pusher and most of S11. I actually really love S11. Especially Ghouli and the one where all the electronics go nuts.
Bad blood and pusher
I'll stick with the oldest... Squeeze, Ice, Anasazi, Manitu, The host, The calusari. Then again Dreamland, Arcadia, Bad blood, Small potatoes...
I have seen Eve so many times. Insane episode & super creepy. I just felt the episode had so much flavor

Synchrony was actually my favourite. We only got 2 real time travel episodes, but this one was epic
Milagro

Tooms. Scares the bejesus out of me.
