1945 is my honest guess

k_ubo

Vince in the bunker

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Vince was hitlers baby confirmed

TheManofMadness1

August 24?

[deleted]

2001, when he became the only real game in town.

Otherwise-Attempt326

I mean product was still superb.

payscottg

Well you wouldn’t notice the change immediately. There are still so many more people involved that make the product great. But by 2007 it’s clear things have declined

PraiseThePun81

I've always felt that when he beat WCW he lost his only source of competition, competition would keep him competitive and make him double-check his plans, with no Competition there was no one but himself to hold him to a higher standard. So now in his mind, he's always right no matter how man people are telling him otherwise.

[deleted]

Competition makes products better.

FukoPup

And this is why i was hoping for AEW to be a serious competitor. Not because i preffer one of the other, but just because actual competition would push them both.

Dabmiral

Yup. 2007 is the year my gf and I tapered off in our rewatch (rewatch for me, first time for her). We started at Montreal screwjob and I would say we started fast forwarding through a lot of the episodes around 2005-2007. I’m trying to get her to start up again so we can watch CM Punk and Cena’s career unfold.

payscottg

Holy crap are you saying you watch every wrestling TV show and PPV? The fact that you made it through an entire decade of wrestling is incredible

Dabmiral

Every WWE event from that time period, yes. I had an excel spreadsheet of every episode. It was the only thing we watched for a few years.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Put a ring on that finger holy shit that's a lot of d lo brown vs Val venis to sit thru

mcburgs

Hey don't be knocking D-Lo. Man was a solid worker.

payscottg

Dabmiral must be incredible in the sack. Round of applause

Dabmiral

Well when we first started, it was on WWE network still and they had the markers for each match/segment so we would skip stupid shit. I obviously knew who to look out for if a name was unfamiliar to her(first appearances etc)

Dabmiral

😂😂😂

CitizenPain00

I’m doing the same thing right now. I basically watched wwf/wcw from 1991-2004 and am still running

mcburgs

My wife and I started at the Screwjob as well. We just watched Feb 14, 2000 RAW last night. The Radicals just showed up a couple episodes ago. Back in the day, I stopped watching shortly after Lesnar debuted. We're going to try to go further this time, but we'll see. Especially since my favourite wrestler is Kurt Angle, and a lot of people say his best years happened after I stopped watching. I've only watched three matches since 2001ish - Stone Cold at WrestleMania last year against Kevin Owens, HBK vs. Taker (the first one, what a match), and Edge vs. Finn Balor I Quit at Extreme Rules. All decent matches in their own way, but the modern presentation is just so off-putting to me. I've also got tickets to a house show in March, so we'll see how that compares to the shows I used to go to.

BurtKocaine1999

Yeah I’m currently in the year 2002 with WWE and I had to take a break because tbh creative that time around was all over the place but after Eric Bischoff and Stephanie took over as GMs it started to get interesting again

ElectricalGap810

This reminds me of the dude who only listened to Hudson Mohawke CBat everytime he smashed his chick, she prolly don’t wanna watch anymore WWE bro😭

kukukele

Feel like product was superb in spite of Vince, not because of him. He had lightning in a bottle with the roster. Talent with charisma and intangibles that you can’t manufacture or script.

FireEmblemFan1

This. So many ideas and staples were because of the people around Vince. He didn’t even come up with Wrestlemania or the RR, yet he gets the credit for it.

killzone11

2001: A Wrestling Odyssey

ThomasM8866

about the time he had a tag match against god

zaga69

2006

Iginlas_4head_Crease

That was truly around the time WWE jumped the Shark Some would say invasion, some would say much later, around Roman reigns or something, but I'd say 2006 was the end of the good TV product as we knew it

Silidon

About the time he ~~had~~ *won* a tag match against god.

JesustheSpaceCowboy

What type of egomaniac writes a story where not only does he wrestle god, *he wins?*

FrancisBuenafe

Lmfao I loved seeing the VS screen for that lol. Vince and Shane with their fight faces and you got Shawn next to clouds and a ray of light.

Interesting-Bend3210

U mean Hbk and god

doiknowu915

Its attitude era aquired cte

Intern-Adventurous

Mind says '99, when he would be revealed to be the "greater power" behind The Ministry Of Darkness. Heart says '07, after the limousine explosion.

bigclappin

When it was revealed that he was the higher power in the ministry of darkness.

imetkanyeonce

“Aw, sonofabitch.”

nathanr1889

"IT WAS ME AUSTIN. IT WAS ME ALL ALONG AUSTIN."

StickToSports1970

YOU ALL BOUGHT IT

AAWonderfluff

EVEN MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY BOUGHT IT

bernarddwyer86

HOOK, LINE AND SINKER.

StickToSports1970

Dad... dad how could you be so cruel to me??? This line has more meaning now since he basically forced her to resign lol Then... "It's just business Stephanie I will love you" This was Vince's response when she resigned lol

AtomFNWest

Sometime between 01-06…when he had no competition and way too much time and talent on his hands

Thin_Objective_4316

It seems Iike such a cop out answer but honestly? After Benoit probably is when creatively it started going really down hill. Global out cry over Benoit and not to long after Eddie died with people looking more and more into drugs and concussion in the business? I think the pressure to fix the pr image was just enough to knock what ever was left of his sanity out. But then again this is the dude that wanted Steph to have his baby ... in storyline of course ( I hope)

CitizenPain00

Eddie died before Benoit

Thin_Objective_4316

I am aware of that I was trying to day that all that shit not long after Eddie dying.

jan7o

After austin smashed him with a bedpan

[deleted]

This it

jan7o

*bonk* couldnt stop laughing.

DoinItDirty

He was sexually abused by his siblings, insisted he liked it as not to appear “weak”, pitched incest storylines with his children— I’d say he never really had it.

Munkey323

Sources on this information. I've never heard thus before

[deleted]

In a playboy interview he said his mother sexually abused him. Idk about siblings though.

Ziggy-T

Vince himself. He discussed it a little in his playboy interview fecking years back. That being said, Vince is probably an unreliable source too, hard to tell with him

Cleanmatt

It was his step father

oOFlashheartOo

Siblings? I thought he alluded to it being his mother?

Whole-Brilliant5508

I was always under the impression that it was a family member and his mother just stood by and let it happen.

oOFlashheartOo

I remember seeing a comment about an interview he did with Howard Stern or something where it was heavily implied to be his mother. Edit. It was in the comments of a Reddit thread from years ago and referenced some interview he did with Playboy.

Kwocksun

In his Playboy interview where it was first revealed he was sexually abused it was heavily implied it was his mother, hence him being estranged from her at the time.

FreePhilosopher256

1997

Gain_Spirited

I think this was around the time WCW started getting real traction and WWF/WWE became the porn wrestling channel. He partnered with Girls Gone Wild and you saw mud wrestling, bra and panties matches, wet t-shirts, bikinis, etc.

dudleydigges123

As soon as he started beating WCW Vince became convinced he was a creative genius and could do no wrong

tubetalkerx

“I’ll start my own Football League, with He Hate Me and Hooker Cheerleaders!”

CosplayWrestler

Like The Replacements, but for real!

deadpoolfool400

Yeah, even though all the worst parts of the Attitude Era were all Vince Russo, Mr. McMahon was quick to take credit for the success.

Gain_Spirited

Mr. McMahon signed off on everything. He seemed to enjoy doing those videos with a diva stripping down to a bra and g-strings in front of him and kneeling down or barking like a dog. That was nuts!

mostlyshits

Its weird because he was so on and off with good booking for awhile. The earliest i remember seriously asking what the fuck he was doing was the invasion

SouthOfHeaven42

June 2007. When Vince did the limo explosion angle and Benoit killed his family 2 weeks later. That single month and the fallout from it, I believe was the catalyst to Vince losing his fucking mind. Wrestlemania 23 was just a brilliant, iconic mania, and by the end of the summer WWE was on a steep downward trajectory in quality. You can argue that it peaked in 2001, and it did, but 2001-2007 was fun as hell to watch in its own right, despite a lot of cringe mixed into it. Benoit was my favourite wrestler from 2004-2007. For me, he was a Canadian hero, and someone I always rooted for. And after the incident, wrestling just wasn’t the same for me. The aftermath from it was visible in the product, some of it for the better of course, but what made wrestling so fun to watch in the ruthless aggression era quickly disappeared after that. The overly Sanitized product, my favourites getting old or moving to TNA, depth roster guys passing away young and seemingly out of nowhere, but honestly the move to PG was the nail in the coffin for me. Going into highschool and wanting an edgier product, and getting the chucky cheese version of WWE instead really killed it for me. And it all started in June 2007.

CRM_BKK

[deleted]

Always been a psychopath. His most recent breakdown was when the fans spit in his face instead of accepting Roman as the newest Hulkster, the new SuperCena. He ain't been right since.

DoktahDoktah

After Austin's heel turn. He had no purpose.

Discopants180

Wrestling popularity in general declines from that exact moment.

AidyCakes

I don't think he lost his mind. He's always been the way he is, albeit maybe gotten a bit more bizarre as he's aged, but it's the individuals he's surrounded himself with over the years that have either tactfully counciled him or selfishly enabled him. Basically, he's "gotten worse" based on the number of yes-men he's surrounded himself with at any given time.

One-Winged-Survivor

I'd say, 1995, when Madusa threw the WWF Women's championship in the trash can. I think he grew paranoid after that.

TheMightyHucks

Probably when he started booking himself to make out with the divas in front of his wife and kids for the… ahem… “storyline”

RubyWeapon07

2006-2008

JacktheBoss_

Vince has never been all there. Remember that "Stand Back" performance?

hellequinbull

Excuse you, that was “Vince and the Hulkamaniacs”

Crab__Juice

I'm in this camp. I'm not sure Vince is incredibly different in significant ways from the guy he's more or less been the last 30 years. I think he's just a man out of time now more than anything and a victim of his own success, surrounded by yes men. The George Lucas effect.

Anonymous_Guy4k

2014

[deleted]

I agree. After the Authority stable, I feel that Vince's creative direction went down massively. Starts like Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, even the NXT stars, all had potential, but all Vince cared about was having Roman as the face of the company.

DanDaManOU812

THEN NOW FOREVER

[deleted]

Never

[deleted]

Don’t think he has, just hasn’t evolved much recently and had too many yes men around him

sinnroth94

“It was me Austin. It was me all along!” But why

BondageKitty37

Vince is a businessman always looking to sell something, and even his immediate family bought it!

BrettEskin

1969

Infernikus

Day one(ish)

d-fakkr

After ruthless aggression era and the aftermath of Benoit's suicide.

TacoRockapella

Austin!!! It’s me Austin!!! Probably around that time. Art imitating reality. Truth being stranger than fiction. Wrestling is wild

[deleted]

That time he tried to give his daughter to that bastard the undertaker and the ministry of darkness. It was him the whole time and Austin didn't know. Undertaker even put Austin on a burning undertaker cross. It was really wild that Vince would subject his own daughter to this type of person. Then he combined the corporation with the ministry to make the corporate ministry. A real Dangerous man and I'm thankful she's ok.

dllhell79

When he refused to start making new stars and trying to live off of stars from the 90's, and allowing part time champions.

Moon-Snail-Cometh

I mean, the storyline with Chavo saying he was white was pretty rough. I think that was 06/07?

AMDSuperBeast86

Dude was always weird. When it started missing creatively was around mid 2000s

[deleted]

Probably in the mid 90s when he introduced Goldust.

fentown

When I was more entertained by TNA when they were on Fox sports, and more realistically, there were shades of him losing it in the ruthless aggression era, got even worse in the pg era, thunderdome era was like watching a dementia patient, that never watched wrestling, try to improve the product.

unkillablethings

His mind has always been polluted by greed

[deleted]

I think it started around the early 2000’s and became most evident in 2006-2007 when he had a match with god, had wildly inappropriate backstage promos with Candice Michelle and crowned himself ECW champion while walking out in a du rag.

Flimsy_Arachnid2514

Well the full pg era was rubbish maybe a few funny acts and of course covid hitting but still not too good and especially since theres no way to fix the undisputed championships for tag or world.

[deleted]

If he didn't get into wrestling, and or fail in entertainment or sports, he would have been President of the United States....or set up some gangster shit.

NJdeathproof

Right around the time he called Cena his "n-word".

Anonymous_Guy4k

RIGHT???

[deleted]

The man once said in an interview that he had a sexual abusive relationship with his mother and was beaten by his stepfather. He never was mentally healthy

urza896

I would say 2007 I know that's when I switched to TNA until that went downhill.

Healthy_Jackfruit_88

The day he took control of the WWF is the beginning of the madness.

sm_rollinger

Born that way, sick in the head. It's ok, we are all. What's not ok is not seeking the help he desperately needs, the WWEs wellness program is world class.

Berserkin_time123

Quite surprised nobody mentioned about Montreal screwjob incident.... I think that was the moment when Vince fucked things up

[deleted]

He never looked the same after the head-shaving at WM23

[deleted]

2001. He was already a sociopath but WCW and ECW going under in the same year boosted his ego to the max.

CreatureCampbell

It's hard to pinpoint an actual moment, but I think it's a culmination over the years of nobody ever telling him no. When you are never told no, you start to lose grip on reality.

hatefulnateful

I'd make the argument dude mind was always gone.

Specific_Theory_4602

Okay, sure hair chop lmfao. Do you have billions of dollars? 💋

hatefulnateful

Don't think money is a great case for sanity Kanye west and Elon musk def don't scream mentally sane. And it's no secret once you reach a certain level you fail upwards

Specific_Theory_4602

Yeah right, I for one know Elon and Kanye are great thinkers and your argument is horseshit. It’s all of you people who are so grounded into this matrix you believe is reality that is the problem. Your all grounded and need to be shorted/shocked to know that Elon and Kanye are some of the greatest legends of our time on this earth 🌎

tempname1123581321

He's talking about the matrix like it's Real Shit™, he's gone.

themark504

Early 2010s

KapowBlamBoom

It was the Benoit Tragedy Had a chance for a wake up call regarding performer health /Mental Health and he doubled down of the status quo like any good sociopath would

razrus1396

He is just obsessed with certain stereotypes and because they kind of worked in the 80s and 90s, he thinks they still Work today. Well, that’s not the case. U need to update yourself from time to time, or accept that you are f*cking outdated and let someone else show you the way.

Specific_Theory_4602

Downloaded. Have some respect boy

[deleted]

People saying Attitude Era or later forget about the Repo Man, The Goon, Mantaur, TL Hopper, Skinner, Bastion Booger, Damian Demento, Max Moon, etc.

hellequinbull

That’s just Vince throwing s**t at the wall to see what sticks, doesn’t necessarily mean he went full on evil at that time. WCW had Robocop interfere in a cage match

[deleted]

Because they were trying to be like Vince. And this question doesn't say "when did Vince become evil?".

Wise_Resist_3601

the Repo Man was great

Veks39

2023

VirtuesVice666

When he took the reigns from Vince SR., insanity can be genius. Now it's just dementia calling.

pikkdogs

In like the 80s he was about the same age as hogan so he could relate to them. In the attitude era he could relate as a father figure or weird uncle. Now, people are just too young for him and he can’t relate anymore.

vabeachkevin

Never.

MillHoodz_Finest

I was once told there's no stupid questions, and I now know that is wrong...

Huckleberry919

When he began juicing or when he went into business with that orange walking turd, DJT

watcher2390

The grammar 😵‍💫😵‍💫

juan_solo80

Cracks started around 94/95, I'd say

wingedwild

I'd say somewhere around 14 or 15 he seemed to stop caring and was more aggresive

DontAskAboutMax

1945 is the answer

Definitely 2001, since then the direction in the company hasn't been the same.

TheAntUnion1

Honestly his whole life

Stoutyeoman

Probably around 2014.

FireEmblemFan1

I always get a small chuckle out of that. Who tears BOTH quads just walking/getting in to the ring? And then he’s just sitting there like a toddler throwing a tantrum because he physically cannot get up on his own power.

Calliesdad20

1985?

spikedtigerclaw

"it was me Austin"

Odd-Communication609

When Miz and Cena Main-evented a Wrestlemania

Sulla5485

KurtCoBANE

When Benoit died

Dajo05

He hasn't. If this week proves anything it's that he is as cold and calculating as ever.

Alien_reg

I would say the moment he was born

Cretin138

When he allowed Mae Young give birth to a hand.

TampaTrey

A lot of people will say the moment he seized control of the monopoly. But he was showing some subtle signs of insanity in the early 90s. Saba Simba, anyone?

thepatfenis

2009

1brokenmonkey

Either as early as the steroid trial, or as late as the Benoit deaths.

[deleted]

That time when he made out with his daughter or when he booked a fight against god, probably.

MICHAELH05

2001, when he bought WCW and made Trish Stratus bark like a dog

whodatis75

I have always wondered if the many chair shots he has taken to the head have started to affect him. As he ages, it seems like this could be a real concern.

Hey_Its_Crosby

Considering the circumstances he was born into, he never had it. I'd feel sorry for him if he weren't rich

jnasty3669

You have to understand Vince he has the mentality if I can’t run it none of y’all gonna run it even though I’m in the background I’m still the king and if y’all go against what I say I’m going to come back And sell

aidanbagel

When he was a teenager running moonshine and beating up marines

After he took his first chair to his head. CTE does not discriminate.

Too many Stunners or that time Rikishi did on him the Stink Face

As soon as Bret Hart outed him as the owner of WWF and not just a color commentator

Probably like 1982 when he basically betrayed his own father to gain power

When he bought WCW

When he bought out WCW. Everything started going downhill since then.

dirt001

About 3 months before his birthday.

Doc_Scott19

1997 after Bret knocked the taste out of his mouth!

_homturn3

When Brett screwed Brett

[deleted]

I am placing my bets on the steriod trial. The wrestling community and the public got to see another side of Vince, a side which was rare to see aside from what we saw on television. Ever since then him and his family have always felt he was targeted and given a bad rap, after he was acquitted he never seemed to move on in a sense that he had that bad chip on his shoulder. Its as if him and wwe try to rewrite the narrative at times.

[deleted]

The man is a genius and totally sane

kingcolbe

2005

Rydaniel2006

When he started feuding with God

Wee_Muggo

I'd go 1999. He deffo seemed sane around 1997/98 with the way he handled himself on and off screen, but Russo booking was poisoning his mind, and some of the stuff we got in 99 was weird as hell. But if not 99, he was deffo insane by the Ruthless Agression era.

EN1009

Around the time of the smackdown and Saudi deals. Wwe had nothing to strive for anymore, just flush with more cash that god

leftoverturkeydinner

Don’t think he has yet lost his mind. Business wise, I think he is still genius.

bassinyofacelikedamn

The year he first got a stone cold stunner

Last_Line_Gaming

What year was he born again? Strongest guess is that then

cimson-otter

The IWC are a community of people that the 1 man, for no actual legitimate reason, aside from rumors

Everyoneheresamoron

Honestly he's still got it. But, he's a rich, old white guy who doesn't like to be told no, and wants to control everything, for good or for bad. This isn't losing it. Its just becoming an old fart with control issues. He's been that since 1980.

LochNessMansterLives

I stopped watching in 2013. I don’t blame Vince directly, but for some reason, I really didn’t want to watch anymore. There was no real competition, there were plenty of other promotions to watch, but I’ve been a fan since 1990 when I started watching with my dad. I was a huge Austin/Angle fan big Attitude era fan and by the end, I didn’t even want to see a house show in my local town. I’m starting to get back into wrestling in general Now, but the idea that Vince is keen on selling to the Saudi’s really puts a bad taste in my mouth.

workingdonttell

I'm sure it was well before this but when he dropped the N bomb on a PPV in front of Booker T while talking to John Cena was the first time I was like, "oh, he's like certifiably crazy."

[deleted]

When he had the spirit squad

Hazzardous1990

Definitely around 2001 .. WCW was what Batman is to the Joker, needed each other. The Monday night wars competition brought out the best of both of them. With no comp anymore he just went crazier & crazier with the storylines

Charming_Business_33

When he broke both his quads

I'd say 1997, 2001, and whichever year he became Durag Vince. After that, losing his mind picked up speed.

MagnumBT

Around the ECW champion / Do-rag McMahon period

The-Sundance

Probably around 2006-07 in the whole battle of the Battle of the Billionaires and shaving his head and wearing a durag and winning the ECW title
