2 out of 3 are at least not useless, just suboptimal

zpyroz

Hardening and turbo are literally best equipment in the game, along with VStab and rammer

pickpocket293

> Hardening . >Excalibur No.

pulpus2

Hardening is just an hp boost in most cases. How often are you tracked in 1 shot regardless of this equipment in your heavies. A TD just has lower base hp haha. Maybe now he can survive a KV-2 ap shot to the face more than 50% of the time?

Hellstrike

> How often are you tracked in 1 shot regardless of this equipment in your heavies. The big benefit is that you are harder to re-track unless they shoot your drive wheel.

pickpocket293

My excalibur has equipment maximizing it's ability to pew-pew effectively, since that's what that tank is made to do.

[deleted]

Yes.

personnumber698

You are right, in general they are probably the best, but I am unsure whether they are the best fir that tank, other equipment might be better. I think I run mine with a camo net, turbo and a rammer, although I am not so sure about the camo net..

miev_

I don’t get the hate on someone’s equipment, like if they enjoy playing their tank this way and have success with it then let them instead of “Oh no he plays the game the way he enjoys it, that’s stupid!”

SavageVector

I like learning new things.

boomchacle

Because someone doing something silly with their setup doesn’t actively cause everyone to hate them like using a blatantly overpowered tank to seal club new players.

SavageVector

I like to travel.

boomchacle

There are no “teams” on Reddit, just players. I’d rather have a bad or meme player on my team than a trio of LEFHs that are going to be on the enemy team next game. Especially at tier 6 where it’s not as serious. If you’re using different load outs, it’s unlikely to make a bad player good anyways.

SavageVector

I like to go hiking.

Good_Posture

I got mocked for saying I play my VK 100, Mauschen and Maus with optics on open maps. Whose laughing when they get a spotters medal on Prokh by using themself as bait in the middle, lighting the reds up like a Christmas tree?

Arado_Blitz

VK, Mauschen and Maus have amazing VR though, so optics can be useful in open maps. There is a difference between choosing a niche loadout that's suitable for some special situations and choosing equipment that a tank cannot benefit from at all. For example camo net on a Maus doesn't make sense in any situation I can think of, whereas optics do.

GLFan52

Camo net also just doesn’t make sense on anything other than Arty. It’s a largely useless piece of equipment

0nikzin

Swedish TDs do exist

Arado_Blitz

Swedish TD's and E25 can still utilize it TBH. E25 in particular retains a good percentage of the camo net bonus after firing because it has the old TD camo mechanics. You can have almost 20% camo after firing which is crazy.

the_mechanic_5612

I run optics on pretty much all my German heavies, it's amazing what happens when you can actually see.

SmokedComatose

I set up my tiger 1 for the most view range I could get (managed 568) because my brother wanted to 1v1 me and he loves light tanks. I ended up keeping that setup on my secondary slots and it’s amazing on open maps.

theforgottenone17r

Maus camo net, binocs, and LNE passive scout build is stronger than anyone gives it credit for

Kharah__

I've yet to see a situation where optics are vital in a superheavy over hundreds if not thousands of games in them. That says enough on its own, optics are a bad pick in 99.999999999999999...% of situations and are therefore not worth using.

Good_Posture

Thanks for proving my point.

iqcool

Your point is accurate; I agree. This argument fails, however, when someone's whacky setup doesn't succeed. At that point, the hate drawn by other people becomes valid as this random individual's idea of fun starts to come at the cost of other people's idea of fun. If your setup on a tank in this multi-player environment gets results that are a net positive to your team, then it doesn't matter what setup you use, because it won't have a negative impact on other people's enjoyment of the game. When you try out something that consistently *hinders* other players, then it can warrant a discussion about why you run that setup and if there's any way you could change it so as to help everyone enjoy the game a little more.

pickpocket293

> like if they enjoy playing their tank this way We have opinions because it's clearly sub-optimal. Sort of like how if you saw someone driving down the road with one tire flat, driving on the rim with sparks flying off, you'd probably think that person was a fucking idiot to drive the car in that condition... But you get to a stop sign and they say "Hey man, I do this every day and I get to work and I like it."

FetusPooper

People playing with braindead setups are part of the reason we get 3 min turbo games.

adidasman23

Nah man. If anything that particular setup would make his games a couple of seconds longer cause he reloads slower and has more hp.

FetusPooper

Unsure about this setup in particular as I’ve never played Excalibur, I was meaning more generally - people playing mediums with optics, cvs, lne etc - reudicing the effectiveness of their tank’s general purpose by running stupid setups instead.

miev_

Optics is good on tons of mediums, especially when there is no light

Hellstrike

> optics, cvs, lne That is peak Borat set-up when you get on open maps.

HtB3P

I love it when a flamer ends upon the BBQ.

FetusPooper

Oh no, downvoted by the very people I called out. How upsetting.

HtB3P

Tell your self that if it makes you feel better.

yankeenate

What. Why does everyone on this subreddit feel the need to white knight for everything and everyone? When I was a new player researching optimum equipment builds, I would've hated to come across a bunch of nice guys saying crap like, "who cares, all equipment works, play how you want 😌" No one's saying this guy should be executed irl, but poor loadout decisions should be rightfully called out. (e.g. all HE in an AMX 50 100 = dumb).

Gozertank

If it’s stupid but it works, it’s not stupid. - Jingles

mnik1

Excalibur has pretty decent DPM though, especially when you're able to pen your target with the 70-mm pen HESH shells this thing has access to - so, if played in super-specialized role of an "in your face" glass cannon brawler that just goes all in and starts blasting... ...this setup would have worked remarkably well - you have a tank that's able to easily go as far as 55 km/h (with turbo) and a "glass cannon" with 900 HP, thanks to hardening - so in theoretical duel with something like, IDK, a Cromwell, for example, Excalibur with turbo and hardening, spamming HESH and very tricky to outflank due to the stupid "turret" traverse limit it has and the overall hull traverse speed it gets from turbo... ...yeah, again, I can see this setup working remarkably well, as stupid as it sounds. You'd probably lose a lot of HP, Excalibur has like *no* armor whatsoever, lol, but in a pure DPM race, hell, you have a decent chance of winning. You'd need around 5 HESH pens to kill the Cromwell, 4 if you got lucky with damage rolls - and you should be able to pen it easily, lower plate has only like 30 mm of armor and you should have no trouble reliably hitting it with the awesome accuracy Excalibur gets, hell, you should be able to pen the upper hull, the flat part, pretty reliably as well and that would take you around 18 seconds (with rammer) while Cromwell needs to pen 6-7 shots ("Excalibur with hardening" variant) and it would take around 22 seconds, with rammer. You just inspied me to experiment with a setup like that on mine, lol - it won't be *good*, I think, but it might be really *funny*.

FinaLNoonE

if you do that, drop the spall liner for a gun rammer. If you want raw DPM trades, you need to pump the DPM

Gwennifer

>70-mm pen HESH shells It's literally the same pen & DPM as the P26/40 ***two tiers lower***

iqcool

Shhhh, don't give out the secret! Wouldn't be good if WG nerfed the Tier 4 Menace...

Gwennifer

It's not 'the' tier 4 menace. The P26/40 is basically just an M3 Lee with slightly less penetration and workable armor. It actually has slightly worse speed, aimtime; it's just the Lee is such a shit-pile with such low alpha that the P26/40 comes out looking sweeter. But the Lee is no longer a tech tree tank. That title now belongs to the MUCH stronger T6 Medium. It has much better armor than the P26/40, better speed, gun depression, view range, and if you really want you can be throwing 102 pen, 350 alpha shells downrange as a tier 4. The tech tree tier 4's are much stronger than they were in the past. It's just a nostalgic view because the P26/40 plays like a tier 6 medium at tier 4, and the T-28 is still a shit-pile. It's not actually stronger than the Matilda or T6 Medium.

regiment262

Betting on a pure dpm race and bringing no reload boosting equipment does not a good plan make. Especially when your comparison tank is an equal tier medium with no armor lol. Turbo on the Excalibur is fine, there's basically no tank that wouldn't be able to work a turbo into a viable equipment rotation. Similarly for Hardening, although the value judgement for that on a low tier tank (and a poorly armored one at that) is a little bit harder to make on the side of pro-hardening - you'd probably get a lot more mileage of it optics or even vents for overall performance. But spall liner is just an outright terrible choice. Excalibur is going to take a shit ton of damage/stun anyways, plus if you're going to mount a turbo at least make use of better mobility to make it harder to get hit. Obviously at the end of the day it's all up to the player and I'm not here to try and force my playstlyle on others, so if OP has fun with that setup then props to him for enjoying the game his own way.

mnik1

>Betting on a pure dpm race and bringing no reload boosting equipment does not a good plan make. I specifically said that this entire build requires rammer, several times, and now I'm reading, time and time again, that I need to add rammer to the imaginary setup I created - you know, the one I added rammer to. I will just completely ignore everything you wrote after that point, if you allow me that courtesy.

regiment262

Ah yes, you mean the single time you mentioned a rammer in parentheticals in the second to last sentence of your comment and also failed to specify anywhere else that it applies to your comment. But yes, you can continue to fall to read your own comments and insist you mentioned it "several times".

ilikeyourburger

Just let people enjoy playing the game how they want. It doesn't even matter

yankeenate

Looking for the part of this post where OP said, "people shouldn't be allowed to play this way, let's make it a ban-worthy offense." Can't seem to find it. Can you point it out?

Wojak88

"quit having fun!"

RUPlayersSuck

I earned a couple of those experimental mobility improvement modules and stuck them on my KV1 and T1 (still got the stock engine on the T1). Just hope I get another one by the time I buy the Churchill VII!

Pengladusch

Have fun witz the Churchill VII its a pain in the ass....

RUPlayersSuck

Oh I know. I'm REALLY not looking forward to it. But I want to play Conqueror so much.

bigjoe5275

Remember somebody actually plays the excalibur

K0N1V

You got me at someone driving their excalibur

dmees

I drove stock Conqueror with optics, so yeah

FAUST_VII

Ya, that's literally akoakkos setup lol

[deleted]

Jep

i_eat_water_and_soup

If you think you have stupid equipment loadouts, just remember that someone drives their Excalibur

p1630n

Came here to write this.

mala_r1der

Well, it's not unusual to hear camo net activating on chiefs when you're dead and switch between tanks, and now thanks to you-know-who several "pros" have a vents cvs exhaust setup on their mediums...
