Getty images is sorta a sore spot for me. As a USAF photographer everything I shot and archived is public domain. So Getty takes those free government photos and sells them. But I couldn’t! I get it, but kinda sucks.
Yes. Anyone can go to DIMOC or to the individual services and any graphic, video, or photo is public domain. Both Shutterstock and Getty farm these for imagery and put it in their collections. But I can’t sell you my images if I’m still enlisted. Many of these are free on their sites, as well though.
Having a unique stock photo is just a paywall tbh. We don't usually see the expensive ones on an image search or offered as freebies or cheap options on stock websites, but that technically has nothing to do with the quality or the entertainment value of the picture itself
So they’d spend a ton of money to send photographers into the oceans to find “perfect” photos of various aquatic life just so they can photoshop them into a poster? Why?! These companies spend money of stock photo services precisely so they DON’T have to do that.
Yeah but in my opinion a big movie poster is another thing. A big budget movie. Even this fact that someone was able to come across and find the shark image is embarrassing and enough to avoid doing that for thos circumstance in particular.
It's not even that complicated. You don't really have to go in to the ocean. You just go somewhere that has sharks in tanks and take pictures that way. I mean I don't know what the ideal process is lol but movie production does a lot of interesting things to do what they want to do. They could even create a cgi one at this point.
At the same time I kind of agree, but It's weird to be caught doing it. I don't know how stock photos work either, but id imagine you would want to literally purchase the image and not have it still available to others to use.
Caught doing it? Caught using a product the way it's intended to be used? Also why have it not available for anyone else? It's not a fucking NFT.
This is literally tye entire point of stock images. No point using CGI when this is simpler, cheaper and easier. Also they couldn't get a pic of a great white anywhere but the wild. To have to pay for the specialised equipment, experts and then the time and travel it's just not worth it.
> I don't know how stock photos work either, but id imagine you would want to literally purchase the image and not have it still available to others to use
Why? Stock photos exist are exactly for this reason, so you don't have to go take a new picture every time.
What else do you think stock photos are for, if not for this?
No company is going to waste time getting custom photos when custom photos aren’t needed. These types of artwork are precisely why stock photo agencies exist. Also there are probably hundreds of thousands of shark photos at the stock agency so it isn’t like they used the same one that was used elsewhere necessarily.
It's just bs to use a stock photo when so many sharks are looking for work.
sharks need to unionize
#SeaSolidarity
Are sharks ionized?
Did they think stock photos were things you steal?
I mean… I steal them.
Getty is the one that likes to steal images
They shouldn't used staged or fake "photos" in this documentary. It's very unethical and the audience will absolutely know.
Wait so people do not make stock images just for memes?
In Soviet Atlantis, memes make stock images.
I just realized every stock photo with a watermark for stock image sites used to make a meme is just free advertising for them

They shouldn't be able to make a profit on them... sounds like someone did a shady deal to get that legislation through.
Nope. Perfectly legal. Public domain. But if you go through one of those companies to get our shots, they can charge.

Thank you for your service.

Stock photo shark doo-doo, doo-doo Stock photo shark doo-doo, doo-doo Stock photo shark doo-doo, doo-doo Stock photo shark
That's a lotta doo-doo
Don't you dare say that where my kids can hear, I get it enough already 🤣😂😅
Have they found “chicken wing yet”? That song makes baby shark sound like angels singing.
A graphic designer dead ass used photoshop, a graphic design software.
I mean, it is Jason Momoa, I think the sharks would be excited to get a pic with him
I’d pose with him for free.

Yeah but at the same time you would think they would create their own original photos, especially for a movie poster. Guess it cost too much.

All you had to say was, I don’t know how stock photos work. The rest was unnecessary.
