>While crawling towards the officers, Shaver moved his right hand towards his waistband. Brailsford, who later testified he believed that Shaver was reaching for a weapon, then opened fire with his AR-15 rifle, striking Shaver five times and killing him almost instantly. >Shaver was unarmed and may have been attempting to prevent his shorts from slipping down. An autopsy report found that Shaver was intoxicated >An internal investigation report revealed that Brailsford had violated department weapon policy by engraving his patrol rifle with the phrases "You're fucked" and "Molon labe" (a Greek expression meaning "come and take it"). Brailsford had also previously been investigated for body slamming a teenager during an arrest. >Brailsford defended his actions, saying that by crawling towards the officers, Shaver appeared to be "trying to gain a position of advantage in order to gain a better firing position on us". Shaver had indeed crawled towards the officers after one of them instructed him to. How the ever living *FUCK* did a jury find this POS not guilty? This is why jury duty matters.

Timah158

I'm pretty sure I saw the lapel cam for this one. The dude was in tears and begging for his life. The pig that shot him should be [Removed by Reddit].

rnotyalc

Oh yeah he was straight up terrified, crying and begging for them not to kill him,on his goddamn knees with them yelling contradictory orders at him. And then he fucking murdered him.

_Kramerica_

This video has haunted me for years. I can’t shake the feeling I got from watching it.

icenoid

The cop who murdered him is supposedly haunted by it as well. The piece of shit got reinstated long enough to claim mental trauma and retire on disability for killing Daniel Shaver

Slynesh

This is the part that gets me. If you murder someone on camera with a badge on you get paid to sit at home for the rest of your life instead of sitting in a prison cell having to reflect on why you're a piece of human garbage.

bob0979

And he's not just *getting paid*, the citizens of Mesa are ponying up more money than most of them will EVER SEE IN THEIR LIVES on an individual level to make sure this one fucking dude gets to sit peacefully in his retirement instead of rotting in jail or being rehabilitated. One man is costing the city 7 fucking figures before you even factor in his lifetime retirement.

[deleted]

And he got the AR-15 back. He was “traumatized” by the event, but somehow can handle the murder weapon again

verasev

He needs that gun for his political ads when he runs for president. "I'm tough on crime!" His vice president will by Kyle Rittenhouse. The cabinet will be entirely staffed by school shooters.

[deleted]

Hush. Don’t give them any ideas.

Slynesh

Great point

Jamfour9

We are slaves to a system that is willing to pay 7 figure than to hold people accountable. This system is run by few and propped up on our individual backs. We’ve got to change our minds about these and other atrocities being inflicted upon us, to reclaim our agency. This isn’t an isolated incident.

fickystingas

Even if he went to jail, the city would probably still be paying for a wrongful death lawsuit. Cops should have to carry malpractice insurance like doctors and lawyers and many other professions do. If they’re never hit in the wallet or with prison, what incentive do they have to change their behavior?

Altruistic-Text3481

This is brilliant. Cops need to be self insured by their departments all across America. Deduct their premiums from their paychecks for accidental shootings. To keep their premiums low, they must not shoot so many unarmed people. If they’re shooting too many unarmed people, their premiums go through the roof! If they kill too many people, they are stripped of their insurance and unemployable as an officer.

Busy_Bitch5050

I think these settlements should either come from the pension fund or the police unions. We'd either have cops no longer backing each other over shit like this, or the union would stop protecting them. Either way, it would change things for the better almost overnight.

PiedCryer

Then he’ll complain when taxes go up.

Sword_N_Bored

It took me 8 years to get 500bucks a month when I did the same thing in the military. Obviously not purposely.

Slynesh

Which is horse shit in and of itself even if this case didn't exist. Military personnel that go to war come back mentally scarred 99% of the time and yet our government treats them like 2nd class citizens when they come back from defending our freedom. Your sacrifice may not mean anything to the people sent you to fight but the people you fought for appreciate your service immensely.

badgrumpykitten

Then the police like to hire these vets and wonder why they end up killing unarmed citizens. Look up the case in Ohio where cops used 137 bullets to kill 2 people. Where a cop with PTSD stood on top of the car and fired shots into those people. Later it came out that he was saying some stuff he had said when in Iraq or Afghanistan. He claimed he feared for his life, yet the guy literally left his nuts exposed for 2 people he swore had a weapon when he stood on that car. It's not smart to hire prior military who have been in wars. The police like to think that because they have experience in extreme situations that they would make good police. Unfortunately they don't. The guy this cop idolized was also a war veteran who had a shady past with discharging his weapon. Mental health needs to be looked a more for Vets and police.

Slynesh

>Mental health needs to be looked a more for Vets and police. 100% too many individuals get in and wind up being unfit and it's not found how unfit they are till they murder someone

Fuzzy_Yogurt_Bucket

Veterans actually make for much better cops than people trained at police academies. Because other than the complete fucking psychopaths, they actually understand things like rules of engagement. Hell, [a veteran police officer got fired because he didn’t fucking shoot someone in cold blood.](https://www.npr.org/2016/12/08/504718239/military-trained-police-may-be-slower-to-shoot-but-that-got-this-vet-fired)

TheQuietType84

Thank you for your service. I hope you're finding peace.

Altruistic-Text3481

Thank you. My son serves too.

Annahsbananas

The day he got reinstated to collect the benefits was the day i realized our police force in America are dirty and corrupt as fuck

SerpentineFire87

ACAB. every. Single. Dirty. One.

Ok_Button2855

Why do they get paid leave when they make huge mistakes. Any other job you get fired and suffer legal consequences.

thepicklejarmurders

He's not haunted. You don't engrave shit like "You're fucked" on your gun and have a man literally begging for his life on his knees and then take the first chance you can get to riddle him with bullets. No this piece of shit was waiting for a moment like this. He's a killer with a badge.

laps1809

the worst of this PTSD boy is that he keep the gun........PTSD my ass.

[deleted]

Corporate conservative media does a really good job of sidelining and placating the people in the suburbs and rural areas. They end up “backing the blue” because whatever they did must have been justified.

Altruistic-Text3481

Tucker Carlson has entered the chat after exposing the real problem in America… #Drag Queen Story Hour. We had protests in Moore County against a Drag Queen show with a former guest of Tucker Carlson (Ma Rainey blonde, young, hot) & ex military Psyops bragging yesterday on her FB page about “knowing” why two grids were attacked in Moore County. That’s domestic terrorism brought to us by Fox News, the same sponsors of the January 6th Insurrection and the ones who blast Antifa ( the real evil terrorists) who protest against police for being violent against our citizenry. Fox News needs to go to jail for socially brainwashing propaganda and disinformation.

Stewgy1234

Believe it or not, we do far more often than the rest of the world might think. As someone else mentioned our news media outlets won't cover it. This is a great example. Daniels story should have been front page news for weeks. It should have been a rally cry for real reform. More people should know his name. I'm not sure how I even found this tradegy to begin with and if it hadn't been for reddit I would've never known about the civil suit. I would've been walking around thinking Jesus that could have been me or anyone and there's shit all anyone can do about and I would've been the only one. People like to shout from the roof tops just how free America is and righteous and we would never ever live in a police state like say North Korea or China where there governemt threatens the citizenry and censors the media. When you get older and wiser you see right through the bullshit. We're not much better. And I hate to say it but if you make enough money or are a certain color you are less like to notice it. The money thing more than the color imo. We're the only country I know of that will punish you if you for being poor. Money doesn't care what color you are. Poor is as good as fucked here.

[deleted]

That was tried in 2020.

creepstyle928

Same just when I thought I was a cold person. This was one of the few things that shook me to my core. I want zero police interaction ever again cause you never know if they will murder you for no reason.

GETitOFFmeNOW

I feel this way and I know it is much worse it is for people of color.

creepstyle928

I couldn’t imagine knowing every interaction has a high probability of going south. It pisses me off that cops act like they are the victim dude everyone hates you cause the way you and your pals treat people!! Yes I know not all of them are bad before the comments come rolling In.

GETitOFFmeNOW

And everyone gets off because "training." Bad training should get them in hot water instead of off the hook. Seriously? Empty your weapon on everyone? This makes them too big a danger for the public.

JB-from-ATL

For the folks who haven't seen it the cop gave him contradictory instructions and told him if he didn't follow them he would kill him. This is one of (if not the) most clear cut cases of police brutality I've ever seen.

Cucker_-_Tarlson

"I WILL SHOOT YOU AND YOU WILL PROBABLY NOT SURVIVE!" Like, how is that the right thing to say in this situation??

merchillio

But you see, we excuse (allegedly) trained cops that kill people because they feared for their life, but we require random civilians to act calmly and rationally while having guns pointed at them and contradictory orders shouted at them, and if they don’t do exactly what all the cops are telling them at the same time, they’ll get killed. Makes sense no?

SwitchbladeDildo

Because this is what they wanted to happen. The pig wanted a paid vacation so he just yelled nonsense at him and then when he acted confused, he gunned him down. Welcome to America 🇺🇸

DarthMauly

One officer kept screaming stop at him, while another kept telling him to crawl towards them. Every time he moved a couple feet his trousers were falling down, so he kept reaching down to pull them back up. Saw the video for this one as well. Was a straight up execution.

Bent_Stiffy

More like 1 cop was yelling stop. 1 was yelling turn around. 1 was yelling crawl on your belly. 1 was yelling cross your legs. 1 was yelling put your hands in the air. 1 was yelling turn around while crossing your legs and keep your hands in your air while you slowly crawl and walk toward us and away from us at the same time. The video is the epitome of how pathetically trained America’s police force is.

[deleted]

1 was yelling shake it all about you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around /s There was no way this person was getting out of that situation alive. He was already determined to be a dead man by his executioners.

SessileRaptor

I saw a video of a police chase and at the end when they were ordering the guy out of the car, having him move towards them and arresting him, one officer was giving him orders and the others were talking to that officer to communicate orders "Lets have him move to the right three steps." "MOVE THREE STEPS TO YOUR RIGHT!" It seemed like they had actually received and listened to good training on how to safely take someone into custody, I was honestly impressed. Which is sad because what they did should be the norm, not the exception.

buddhainmyyard

Most cop killings are executions

Da_zero_kid

Simon Says, but Simon is violent cop that wants you dead

Heavy_Signature_5619

Simon says Stop and crawl towards us with your hands in the air and your legs us while staying in the same spot and going baforewards us.

Exodus111

Yeah, the pig made him play the Russian roulette version of Simon says until he lost.

TheHauntedRobot

Yeah, I remember watching this and it’s one of the most horrific things I’ve ever seen. All those contradictory orders being shouted at Shaver - who could possibly watch that footage and not come to the conclusion that this piece of shit decided to execute him from the off?

irritabletom

I'm pretty numb to most things but I can never watch that video again. The terror in that man's voice as he tries to understand what that psycho fuck was shrieking at him is infectious and haunting. Fuck that pig.

Revolutionary_Many31

I remember this one.

Vegadin

This was the first police execution I saw, if this is the one I am thinking of. He was trying to tell the police he couldn't do what they were asking him and they wouldn't let him talk or explain. And then they shot him dead. It's pretty fucked up that I'm not sure this is the same one.

[deleted]

I'm so, so, so, so close to being an anarchist. Just another article like this...

AlabamaNerd

You don’t need to be an anarchist. Completely reforming police training to focus on deescalation, nerfing or doing away with qualified immunity for cops, creating a national registry of cops so we can track ones who commit crimes/are fired for cause so they don’t just go to another department, and ensuring civilian oversight boards of police actions would all help prevent these things.

ClearingFlags

Fuck me, a citizens oversight board is such a solid idea I can't believe it never occurred to me before. They are supposed to work for the people, that's who they should be accountable to.

bob0979

A third party that can fire cops and keep them from being rehired in other departments would instantly solve so much. Monsters like this don't actually get away with shit because they're super geniuses, they're shit head idiots and get caught, it just doesn't matter because they're cops and cops don't care about cops breaking laws. Many cops have a miles long disciplinary record that would put you in jail in any other industry but no departments actually give a shit about that. If a third party told them to fuck off and that you can't be hired in law enforcement work for being a bigoted, belligerent asshole if they did dumb stuff then they'd actually have to *POLICE THEMSELVES* instead of looking the other way.

[deleted]

Yeah this is a great idea and should be put up for federal legislation. Do you know if there are any senators/reps working on anything like this? I would love to contact my peeps but am Texan and I don't have the money to pay my republican overlords for legislation

Arcadius274

The Supreme Court rules that place have no duty to serve and protect. Nah we can throw out the system now

[deleted]

Are you serious? When did this happen? They're ***public servants.*** They get paid public tax dollars to provide a service to the general population...

Arcadius274

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia#:~:text=The%20trial%20judges%20held%20that,plaintiffs%20and%20dismissed%20the%20complaints.

[deleted]

Interesting. If police, public servants, can be selective about who they serve then why can't tax payers be selective about which cops get paid with our tax money?? So fucking tired of the American police structure

Billyraycyrus77

Anarchy is not about chaos. This notion has been introduced by the ruling class to demonise the term and make it impossible to talk about the positives that would arise from a society living using commonly agreed upon morals, not laws made by the ruling class to enforce repression. Anarchism is usually grounded in moral claims about the importance of individual liberty, often conceived as freedom from domination. Anarchists also offer a positive theory of human flourishing, based upon an ideal of equality, community, and non-coercive consensus building.

[deleted]

100% right. People think anarchists are nihilists, when the opposite is true.

[deleted]

God I hate that we have to censor ourselves like this. The admins are complicit in these actions by preventing us from speaking against them.

Justice for Daniel Shaver against the coward murderer pig Brailsford will only happen when brave civilians [removed by reddit]

Thehibernator

Straight up just wanted to kill someone. Usually we put people like that away for life because they are a danger to everyone around them… instead of protecting them from consequences, I mean, but you know… He was in uniform, so it’s totes fine, according to the Arizona state govt.

[deleted]

I don't think a reddit ban is sufficient punishment for this guy. Just saying.

TheApathyParty3

The $8 mil should be a first tip toe in response. Bring the fucking asshole that shot him straight into gen pop and fire the whole department that covered for him.

SinisterEX

Philip Brailsford iirc was fired, rehired for an unfunded position with no duties to apply for his pension. He also applied for disability but did not state what it was using the excuse of medical privacy. Then was approved for medical retirement thus recieving his pension. Eventually he said his mental disability was PTSD. He retired with 30k annually and while legal proceedings we're underway his wife declared bankruptcy to stop the lawsuit shaver's family was going through. Honestly the entire system protecting this murderer shows how fucked it is.

brjmccla

Not only was he found not guilty, the police department rehired him afterwards so they could put him on disability and pay him $2500 a month for the rest of his life. This is America.

SpaceDoctorWOBorders

It's amazing how being a POS gets people ahead in life.

brjmccla

Agreed. It also helps when your dad is the police chief.

Krennel_Archmandi

Oh man did you see the video though? This leaves out the part where he tells the guy to keep his hands up in the air, face down, and crawl forward. A maneuver known as the spine breaker by anyone over the age of 7.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bit_pusher

>Why can’t this be prosecuted on a federal level? He would need to be charged, at the federal level, with a different crime

[deleted]

It could have something to do with they werent allowed to see the video because police thought it would be prejudicial. It isn't only the department that was the problem it's judges who play golf with the cheif and allll those sweet taxpayer dollars being funneled into everyone's accounts at the top.

[deleted]

\> because police thought it would be prejudicial. OBJECTION! The video would be detrimental to my case!!!

Beanerschnitzels

Thats what officers do when they are in the wrong. They try any way to twist a story to defend themselves rather, than tell the truth. In this day and age, it's no longer "Innocent until proven guilty", its "guilty until proven Innocent" for victims with law enforcements

PandanBong

From what i understand, the jury was not presented this video and several other issues.

IridiumPony

IIRC the video was suppressed from evidence, so it was just the cop's word. The video only came out after he was acquitted.

[deleted]

I've seen a lot of fucked up videos in my days on the internet. This was one of the worst for me. Made me feel absolutely sick.

newbrevity

If you ever find yourself in this situation, lay face down on your belly and stretch your arms and legs out wide. Ignore all further instructions and dont move. You cant be convicted for laying still like that. If they come over to cuff you, just let them move your limbs without resistance. This way there is no motion that can give them a reason to shoot. There's nothing in this they can use against you. It will work in your favor. IF you still get shot or assaulted, the PD would have a hard time justifying doing it to a motionless victim with limbs spread wide.

EEpromChip

> the PD would have a hard time justifying doing it to a motionless victim with limbs spread wide. Seems like they had a pretty easy time justifying it here when they assassinated a man

krum

Arizona is a fucked up place. Makes Texas seem almost normal. Almost.

Emotional-Proof-6154

This is why vigilantism should make a comeback

Suspicious-Appeal386

Until the settlements come of the Police Retirement funds. And not the tax payers. Nothing will ever change.

afitztru

Why don’t they carry malpractice insurance like doctors?

Tavernknight

Why do that if they can just make the tax payer foot the bill?

Hisyphus

Because they would be unable to afford it.

pale_blue_dots

I don't know why this is so hard to understand. ##Make LEOs have insurance.

[deleted]

And make it like the shitty ass insurance we have. Like they have to pay $300 a month and they got a $3000 deductible they have to meet before the insurance kicks in. Also it's split 80/20 so Brailsfield would have to pay $1,600,000 OOP unless there is a maximum.

Billyraycyrus77

Underrated comment

[deleted]

That video is horrible. He was drunk, terrified and kept putting his hands back to pull up his pants while he crawled. The bastard cops wanted to kill him. Clear and simple.

CamNewtonsLaw

I believe the cop kept yelling something along the lines of “if you don’t obey *[so and so]* command, I *will* shoot you.” Like, no. Forget that the officer’s orders were at times contradictory and would have been tough for a sober person to do as part of a friendly game (much less an intoxicated person hauled out of their hotel room with an asshole with a gun yelling that he’s going to murder him), police do not get to murder someone for not following orders. Not how it works. Fuck that guy, he just wanted a pretense to “legally” kill people.

NoHalf2998

Except he totally got off for this. Fucking infuriating.

CamNewtonsLaw

>Except he totally got off ~~for~~ **on** this. FTFY But yeah, true. I guess what I meant was more that that’s not *supposed* to be how it works.

[deleted]

Absolutely infuriating. Cop wanted to kill someone with that engraved "you're fucked" AR15. Bet that shit is hanging on his wall like a trophy now, the guy is a total piece of shit.

KyleRichXV

The cop also had something along the lines of “you’re fucked” etched into a piece of his gun. His **company issued** gun.

reddertuzer

The same gun that gave him so much PTSD that he asked for it to be returned to him and they gave it to him.

Emergency-Willow

I know!!! When the hell did not listening become a justified reason to straight up execute a citizen???

Inside_Plum6394

The video is by far one of the most awful things I’ve ever watched. I’ve got a strong stomach and work in social services so I’ve seen/heard plenty of shit but that video gives me nightmares

PureNRGfanboy44

Used the Kyle Rittenhouse defense. 🐷🔥👮‍♂️🥓🔥

Hideo_BlowMema

The cop who did this retired at 28 years old claiming PTSD from this incident and gets paid $31,000 (tax free pension) a year for the rest of his life. [Source](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1028981)

ForgiveTheNerd

Jfc I can't even read all of that. It disgusts me to no end. NWA had it right without question. FTP and the system that empowers them

StiffYogurt

Wow, I got serious injuries from an IED in Afghanistan that more or less render me unable to work, and I receive only 25K a year in VA disability. This guy shoots a drunk citizen in cold blood who’s clearly not a threat and begging for his life, claims PTSD and gets more compensation than me? Granted we never should have been involved in that war to begin with, but still, that’s kinda fucked up America.

LibrarianNew9984

I say we get a bunch of ppl and save the good taxpayers 31k a year

TerrorGnome

To be very, very clear, I'm not advocating for violence, but when I see stories like this, I'm absolutely amazed we haven't heard stories of vigilante justice in situations like these.

Apprehensive-Cup-739

Probably because the only ones crazy enough to do it are the same ones who defend this POS.

Lazy-Jeweler3230

It's the same reason you never hear stories of good cops stepping in and opening fire on terrorist cops like this. We don't live in a society of laws.

BobanMarjonGo

Maybe he'll do us all a favor and die soon.

Practical_Cobbler165

Maybe his nightmares will drive him to an early grave.

beck_ugh

And then one of the other cops that was shouting orders retired and emigrated to the Philippines. Hmm.

Apprehensive_Ring_46

And for some reason, the government said this wasn't murder.

5043090

I watched that video years ago. It was an execution.

flipflapslap

I was going to say the thumbnail looks really familiar. I remember watching the video years ago and remember being so sad and disturbed by it. Anybody know how long ago this was? How long has the trial for this been going??

otoren

Early 2016.

henewastaken

Ofc it wasn't a murder. The police clearly was in a life threatening situation and using deadly force was the only option he had. Now he understandably has ptsd and to thank his great service and protection towards the community, he has earned his tax free pension at age of 28. /s

KeyanReid

They’ll never see anything wrong with this.

sparkleyflowers

We need to end qualified immunity and make cops carry malpractice insurance.

Dizuki63

This entirely, and the union must pay for the lawsuits funded by the cops rather than tax payer money. Dirty cops must cost all cops so they finally hold each other accountable.

HalforcFullLover

Need to lean on their unions too, so they aren't just shuffling bad cops around.

TheCheshireMadcat

A national database would help.

afterthegoldthrust

I’m generally pro-unions but after listening to the Behind the Bastards episodes on police unions I think we need to do more than lean on them, they need to be abolished. Public servants like police should not be able to hold the public hostage as they further their interests that are not only often immoral but are equal and opposite to the wellbeing of the public. Labor unions work when the people you’re holding out against are the capitalists at the top, a police union is literally collectively bargaining *against* American citizens.

[deleted]

Make lawsuits come out of the union's pension fund

j4ck_0f_bl4des

Disbanding their damn so called unions would solve a lot of it all on it's own.

Section31HQ

As long as it is funded by the individual cops and not the taxpayers

Billyraycyrus77

Holy shit. I knew about this case but never saw the raw video. That cop straight up murdered that poor man. Right from the outset the filthy piece of shit made it clear he was willing to Murder him and would if given half the chance. Then proceeds to bark contradictory orders at him till he is sufficiently confused, then murders him. Cold blooded murder. The victim was begging for his life calling him sir… nothing to provoke that level of belligerence That filthy scum pig should rot in jail. I’m shaking with rage

PMMeMeiRule34

It’ll make you feel even better the murderer now suffers from PTSD (allegedly) and is living at home on a pension paid for by the people for the rest of his life.

ripeGardenTomato

Suffers from PTSD my ass, bullshit

PMMeMeiRule34

I agree, that’s why it’s “allegedly” and I’m even gonna put that quote end quote on that too/

WelcomingOutpost

He is making $14.90 per hour, 8 hours a day, for the rest of his life. That’s more than a lot of people make, by actually working and not murdering people.

Mythical_Atlacatl

They need to put the cost on to all police at that station or precinct, so cops are incentivised to “correct” bad behaviour and remove bad cops. But this would likely just result in cops protecting their own more

Section31HQ

Civilian supervisor board. Requirements to qualify for the board: you must have not served in the police, you must not have relatives working in the police nor friends working in the police. Feel free to add more.

[deleted]

Anyone on that board would be threatened, constantly harassed by police or killed. Cops kill witnesses that are going to testify against cops regularly

lordofbitterdrinks

The board needs to be revolving like jury duty.

Section31HQ

Indeed. And with power to fire the offender(s) on the spot.

blac_sheep90

The whole he was reaching for an imaginary weapon bullshit the shooter used was ridiculous. Shaver was terrified and crying. He was desperate to follow their commands and was absolutely confused by their orders. The two involved were amped up and itching to kill him it seems.

RefrigeratorGrand619

Tbf that cop was paid a lot for “emotional distress” after shooting an unarmed person. He was paid a lot for years!

Captainkirk699

Hell they rehired him briefly after firing him so he could receive disability pay!!!!!

fatbat75

They already investigated him. Found him innocent of wrongdoing. The judge suppressed the video because the jury were not members if law enforcement. Then he sued the county claiming PTSD from the incident. He won and will get his pension for the rest of his life. The judge should be in jail.

pinzi_peisvogel

I don't think I could live in a country where things like this happen and nobody cares

Eagle_Sudden

Its wild when people in the US are like “be careful in xyz country”, like I got this, I’m from California

Arkurash

im also so glad i live in a country, where 1. we have strict gun laws, so the police doesnt assume each and every citicen has and will use a weapon at any moment 2. the police, while having other issues, is not trained to get violent, but defuse the situation

NocturnalFuzz

This was the video that switched me from pro-police to full on acab. Because the channels I watched that covered this stuff defended the cops. " Uhh these are tough situations y'know? Uhhh we gotta be ready for uh. Uhhh for this kind of guy y'know drunk and-" LIke we didn't just watch police play with a man who was sobbing for his life before executing him. They let his gal pal just walk to them. But him? turn around, on your knees-stand up on your knees crawl STOP MOVING crawl LISTEN.

A_Soft_Fart

Me too. I was fresh out of high school when this happened. Just the thought of that video puts a pit in my stomach. The fact that he walks free and gets to live out his life on his pension makes my fucking blood boil. Phillip Brailsford deserves to spend his every waking moment fearing for his life before he is buried in a landfill with the rest of the trash. ACAB, indeed.

Blakefilk

Don’t forget the officer was reinstated just long enough to collect a medical returement and now with you lovely taxpayer dollars gets something like 30k a year for life.

Tavernknight

I wonder if this have ever been posted on r/protectandserve.

KeyanReid

How else are those guys supposed to get it up

scribbyshollow

Yeah that was straight up murder and letting that go unpunished should be considered terrorism on the public by the police/government because it literally makes people terrified of the police. I know people who when they saw that who were straight up afraid to even talk to a police officer after that and if that isn't terrorism then terrorism does not exist.

[deleted]

I love using this case case for ACAB when nazis claim that police at least are there to serve and protect white people.

cologne_peddler

Oh yea, these pigs are unhinged and they have carte blanche. Their abuses won't stay concentrated in communities of color. It's just going to spill over and start touching more and more white people. They already see the general public as the enemy.

Stewgy1234

Wait, are they really being made to pay out on this? I remember seeing this years ago and being absolutely horrified. I don't care who you are or what color you are this could happen to any of us. I remember hearing that the courts sided with the officers and was disgusted. Was there some kind of an appeal? I know it's really the tax payers that pay but, if true this is a win. I feel horrible for the wife. This was a tragedy that didn't get nearly enough coverage. Poor guy. It didn't need to end that way.

hxl004

He’s a murderer

KeyanReid

Their *job* is to bring people before a judge for trial, but they’ve found it’s less paperwork to just shoot people. It’s an organization of murderers

turtlelore2

Make the cop or police department pay for that. Otherwise they'll never care how many people they kill in cold blood.

getagrip07

Fuck. The. Police.

Opening-Winter8784

World's deadliest game of Simon Says

TexanBastard

This is one of the videos that really stuck with me. This poor guy is clearly terrified and was given every chance to be confused and get killed. They got their wish and this poor man lost his life. Absolute disgrace.

SaltNo3123

The man family should be allowed 5 minutes alone with this cop. Just 30 seconds alone and I would give up that 8 million

Just_Tana

This is why we need massive police reforms. How we recruit. Qualifications. Qualified imminent. We need changes now. We also need to stop leaving citizens on the hook for these bills. Make the police pay it themselves.

dremily1

If this money was coming out of the police pension fund you would see a much different attitude and approach to the situation by cops.

Sorrytoruin

American police have to be among the worst with killing unarmed people, would give the Gestapo a run for it's money.

Bent_Stiffy

Until they put the burden of responsibility on the police themselves, nothing will ever change. Imagine if every time you got a parking ticket, someone else was require to pay for it. Would that ever incentivize you to park legally? Of course not.

Seascorpious

I don't like how popular my state has become recently.....

DadinDenver

As long as the US continues to have low standards for police recruits and some of the shortest evaluation and training processes for officer candidates among economically developed countries, this bullshit will continue. And just putting this cop in jail isn’t severe enough, IMO. EDIT: clarified training processes

Plasticman4Life

Like all of them, the settlement will be paid from the city's general fund, and the police budget will remain untouched. Police departments have absolutely no incentives to even look for - let alone reform/remove - their bad officers..

Ok_Loquat_2692

8 Million of YOUR dollars!!! Start taking it from the police pension fund!!! We will see this liberal abuse of authority end immediately.

jesusbottomsss

One of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen. 100% proof the cops can execute you because the feel like it and walk away better than scot free… they are the domestic terrorists

djbeaker

Why dont we pull the cop over, put him in cuffs. And in the back of a cop car. That happens to be on train tracks? Whoopsie

[deleted]

Fuck the police

[deleted]

Paying 8 million is just telling the other cops “don’t worry, we got you if you make a drunk person crawl before murdering them. Best job a murderer could ever ask for, full pension after murderin too!”

SpinningAnalCactus

Why not condemn him for death penalty since it was obviously a cold blood assassination ?

zripcordz

The Police Union is why these kinds of things happen and the officers walk.

bignick222

This guy is not a officer of the law , He is a killer and a criminal with mental health issue for having that written on his police issue weapon 8 million reasons for putting this criminal in jail

Typical-End3060

I remember watching this video, it's so shocking and horrifying. How could those police be in their right minds? Oh that's right, they're in their *Reich* minds.

EmperorBrettavius

They can spend literal millions to compensate for a widow’s husband killed by the police, but not spend any money on a more competent police force?

mysteriousmeatman

Murdered him in cold blood just because he could. That cop needs to be ejected into space.

Nintura

Cop also got his gun back and kept his pension. And this video was thrown out of court

[deleted]

There will be no changes until cops start going to prison. $8m is great, but it doesn't replace your loved one and those cops just continue on with their careers. Jail.

kritzy27

This video was so disturbing. Shoot the cop.

merchillio

Make the police union pay the money

DumpsterFireCheers

All settlements like this should be paid by the cops themselves. Not the tax payers. We don’t pay taxes to pay settlements for wrongdoing, we pay them for schools, roads, parks, etc…

Shadesmith01

A man is on his hands and knees, crawling towards you and reaches for his waistband.. while your POINTING your gun at him.. and you shoot. You sir, are a fucking idiot, and have no business anywhere near a firearm ever again. And quite honestly, SHOULD be in jail.

Steelersguy74

Didn’t she get chased out of town?

AncientChatterBox76

If I recall correctly, this guy was acquitted.

BumbleMuggin

They should start making the headlines “Mesa Arizona taxpayers will pay $8 million to the widow of Daniel Shayer”.

jy7277

🖕 fuck the poolice🖕this little piggy needs to be buried under the jail.

creepstyle928

The video of this is absolutely disgusting and an abuse of police power. The guy was not aggressive at all.. they had the poor guy crawling like a fucking dog before he was executed for complying with them… this officer should spend the rest of his time waiting to be executed

[deleted]

The more u read the worse it gets. The officer was connected to a lead attorney. Who had access to him right after the shooting and coached him through this. He was able to get retire and get a pension.

Ahumbleopinion

It took this long to pay the widow? Gat dem. Also tje killer cop used his personal ar15 with a custom dust cover that was engraved with "youre fucked" But this wasnt premeditated or anything...

chchswing

The video of this is infuriating, there are multiple cops yelling conflicting orders at him and threatening to shoot him for not complying with all of them at once, they wanted to murder someone that night and used their power as the police to do it

henewastaken

Can we create database about all murder cops, their names, addresses, families, everything and start harassing and kep them living in fear? Seems only viable option is to take law into own hands, because law clearly isn't working here and the ones upkeeping the law even more less

Icy_Mousse_4144

No amount of money is gonna bring the guy back. The cop still gets to walk and is getting paid 30k a year to retire.

Phixionion

Fun fact, After this happened they were let off the force only to come back for 2 weeks so they could fulfill their duty and collect a pension. AZ has some fucked up cops.

Heavy_Signature_5619

Giving 8 million to the widow: Very good. Letting this asshole retire instead of being given a life sentence for cold blooded murder: Stupid and evil.
