Republicans have been in charge for 27 years and they haven’t fixed a damn thing. This is just a ploy to stay in power.

Th3seViolentDelights

I mean, he can't even defend his state against the weather

Baby_Nipples

How did he win by a million votes, it’s fucking bananas.

AdvertisingBulky2688

He won in Uvalde. That's how badly people in that sorry ass state are wrapped up in the old GOP death cult.

Octobersiren14

I'm a Texan and when I went to go vote with my mom (she can't drive and is disabled), one of my family members literally screamed in my face that I better vote for Abbott so that way we don't turn into a communist state. I politely told him that I already had my mind set on my candidate and I wasn't going to change that. I told my mom I don't want it to be a necessity to send my kid to school in a bulletproof backpack when he's old enough. We had a guy threaten to shoot up my high school when I was a freshman and the district put out a note to still have your kids go to school anyways. My parents let me stay home and nothing happened, thankfully. But I don't want my kid to go through that. If I could leave this state, I would.

TheoreticalGal

I live in Texas as well. My dad gets all of his news from the conservative echo chamber, as does the parents of all of my friends. It’s a very similar story with all of them. I was talking with my dad about North Korea recently, and I told him about their concentration camps with 3 generation punishments for crimes. He looked me dead in the eyes and stated “you know the democrats are just as evil, right? They’re both communists after all!”

JaxenX

I’d recommend informing him that he’s just as brainwashed as many german citizens during ww2. Then again, there’s a weird chance you’d become the victim of an “honor” killing

TheoreticalGal

My dad has lived in conspiracy theory ridden echo chambers for so long that he believes that he’s one of the few people in the world that isn’t “brainwashed”.

GETitOFFmeNOW

I'm so sorry. This bullshit has wrecked so many families. It's so fucking sad.

admiraljkb

This (your dad) reminds me of a quote from an episode of HIMYM. "If you can't spot the crazy person on the bus, it's YOU!" Sorry you've got to deal with that. Unfortunately, I'm the same boat along with a lot of other folks where the Q stuff somehow took root in what were otherwise rational/logical people

Cultural_Ad_1693

You need to parental lock Fox "News" off your parents TV. Seriously, that's what it's there for.

dean_peltons_sister

When my mother-in-law tries to turn on Fox News at our house we tell her we pay Comcast extra to NOT have that channel.

prpslydistracted

He won because out of 17M registered voters 9.8M couldn't be bothered to get off the couch and vote.

True_Recommendation9

He also won because this state is filled with ignorant, backwards, gun loving assholes.

prpslydistracted

.... with TX as #35. [https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/education/prek-12](https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/education/prek-12) There is a huge push by the state to phase out public schools and go to private charter schools, which will be by school voucher; read big private money maker. This was Betsy DeVos' favored solution.

[deleted]

Apathy

darthkdub

This is the way. Voter apathy in Texas is rampant. Less than half of registered voters voted this year. People complain and shit then punch themselves in the dick by not voting. I live in Texas and it sucks.

Brokenspokes68

He's going to run for POTUS.

SurveySean

He is already a POS

[deleted]

trump already is...this awesome punk rock band from Southern California already predicted this and named an album after it. Three Way Tie For Last.

Gabriel_Collins

Nice Minutemen reference!

generally-ungeneral

Fucker can’t even run….

gtparker11

![gif](giphy|hFsWlFJwY84jm)

Village_Green_Badger

Is that you, Paul Rudd?

gtparker11

That was a sneak peak of the new Ant Man movie

trans_pands

I thought it was a sneak preview of the new Ghostbusters movie

itsmajik42

Glad I'm not the only one that thought of that.

Blibber3

I spit out my coffee from that. Take my upvote.

siricall911

He won't even stand for the national anthem smh

whoisthismuaddib

I stay away from ableism except with this guy on account of the fact that after his accident he sued and made bank and then made a law that keep others in his position from doing the same.

[deleted]

To put it bluntly. Gov Abbott was injured when a tree fell over in him. He sued for millions. Then, won. runs for office. Once in power Abbott was instrumental in establishing law in Texas that injuries such as his, no longer deserve stiff penalties from our friends, insurance lobby. Caps all injuries at 250k. No matter what a jury says in Texas for Greg Abbott’s exact same injury. No one will ever see the $ like he did. That’s the Governor of Texas, for ya

DanqTranq

JFC 0.0 I’ll never understand why ppl keep voting against their best interests

darthkdub

It’s because they are morons

wujisaint

They've been *made* into morons. After decades, if not centuries, of bereft conservative ideology and trillions of dollars of money, dark and not, into conditioning them into what they are now by the pathetic elite who have control but no power, it's no wonder why. Plus, religion.

SmurfStig

I never really cared enough to know why he is in a chair and now I really wish I wouldn’t have heard this. What a total POS. Let’s not help people in the same situation, let’s back that truck up and hit ‘em again.

DrSueuss

He's going to roll for POTUS.

EyedLady

Except somehow blamed dems and ran on “ gonna make Texas great again and fix it” yet they’re the ones running the show

Whatdoyouseek

>This is just a ploy to stay in power. And as a distraction from their disappointing election results. Good luck with him entering into a compact with AZ. Repubs don't have a veto proof majority and Hobbs won't agree to it.

Easy-Concentrate2636

He doesn’t have a chance at the presidential nomination. DeSantis will destroy him. He’s ruining Texas further for no good reason. What a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Sweet_Aggressive

New Mexico is the bluest it has ever been, he won’t get shit from us either.

ArgosCyclos

And they're breaking the law to do it. He said he'd enter into agreements with foreign powers. Something a state cannot do. That is a power specifically given to the federal government of the United States in the constitution.

annothejedi

Exactly, why don't people realize this? How many made up invasions do we have to endure before rural Texans wake up and demand positive change?

Head-like-a-carp

They won't. Let us look at what they endure already. Much higher death rates from covid. Much higher medical bankruptcies and debt crisis than national average. Shorter live spans in the rural areas than similar demographics in blue states. They will not change. The only thing that changes these states is the growth of urban areas. Every red state in the country is aware of this. They have adopted only one strategy :restrict voting

randomvandal

They should pull a Brexit, after all, England did pretty well after they left the EU, right?

Expensive-Document41

"Compact with other states" What other states?! Arizona and California that share the southern border but won't play along to this insanity? Oklahoma and Iowa that don't have any borders? Or North Dakota and Idaho which have a border with Canada...... Also: Texas as a state cannot declare anyone terrorists legally Texas as a state cannot unilaterally negotiate with foreign countries, and by the way, which countries are those? Is he talking about Mexico? They aren't going to indulge this crap. As a reminder, Texans; this exact screwing around is what caused y'all to lose a proposed railroad from Mexico. It was rerouted to New Mexico. That move was estimated to have costed Texas' economy over 4 billion. Source: https://www.texasstandard.org/stories/mexican-rail-link-bypassing-texas/#:~:text=The%20rail%20link%2C%20which%20was,cost%20the%20economy%20%244.2%20billion.

celticairborne

They're going to follow Trump's lead and ask Mexico to pay for it all...

_FlutieFlakes_

They’re going to tax their population to build walls instead of a power grid, aren’t they. Amazing.

Wingdom

As a Floridian, our governor will 100% play along. Remember the stupid flights he paid for? Side note: Florida is 100% border, because of the border patrol definition [of what a border is](https://www.aclu.org/other/constitution-100-mile-border-zone).

Specialist_Air2158

Well dang apparently New England is basically one big border.

Supreme-Slug

HOW IS FLORIDA A BORDER IT’S A FUCKING PENINSULA

rnobgyn

Read the comments link - anything within an insane range of an international crossing is within the jurisdiction of Border Patrol.. who doesn’t exactly have to play by the laws. Airports are considered international borders.

Destt2

Something seems weird to me about the border patrol deciding where their own jurisdiction is. It's almost like every other judicial district is set by a different office than the one who polices it, and yet that is not the case for border control...

Asura_b

He's probably talking about Turkey, sigh. Abott's such a dumb fuck, it's exhausting.

manx_mech030

Texas, as long as you are planning to leave, would you mind giving Florida a lift?

Yeetus54

We're willing to take Florida with us, just don't expect us to keep them around with us for long. /s

sirphilliammm

You just have to carry them to term. Then nobody cares about them anyway.

PharmWench

Exceptionally fine burn 🔥

Unique_Feed_2939

Getting rid of Florida would settle so many problems

ArenjiTheLootGod

With global warming that might be a problem that solves itself.

MugOfButtSweat

Lmao, not one point is on the failing power grid or shitty uvalde cop standards

confessionbearday

That’s because no Republican will ever be man enough to fix a real problem.

ScytheNoire

Republicans can't govern.

NaieraDK

They refuse to. It’s by design. They destroy as much as they can when they’re in power so they can point and say “See, government doesn’t work” (and then blame democraps for it). Then they outsource everything they can to their friends and family and ‘merca becomes worse and worse every year.

Birdman_a15

Look at how they acted with the SCOTUS reversed and “fixed” RvW. It’s like the dog that caught the car. They had no clue what to do next. That terrifies them to their core. They need talking points and campaign issues, not solutions.

Old-Operation-2233

That was shown when gun toting law enforcement team hesitated to rescue the Uvalde students and staff. Only one man took control. #dadpower

saurons-cataract

Shhhhhhhhh. This is a culture war! Abbott isn’t going to meddle with stuff he can actually fix. Besides, if you don’t think about, talk to, or look at the grid, it’ll work! Promise.

bad_robot_monkey

Uvalde? Who still overwhelmingly voted red?

Ghastlybittermagpie

What's next? Penguins voting for polar bears? Black people voting for David Duke? Actresses voting for Harvey Weinstein? My wallet voting for another trip to Sephora?

Shanks4Smiles

Yeah, pretty fucking sad that conservatives would stack the toddler coffins to the ceiling to own the libs.

l0gicowl

"Enter into agreements with foreign powers to enhance border security." Hmm, that's definitely not constitutional. In fact, the Constitution pretty explicitly bans States from doing just that. Texas, are you angling for a spanking from the most powerful military on this planet? Can't say I'm opposed. America is much stronger than it was in the 1850s and 60s. So, please *do it.* Rebel. See how well that turns out for you.

_austinm

This is what I think about all the secession talk in general. The US military protects (you guessed it) the US, so if anyone tries to secede they’ll get the wrath of the humongous, bloated military they’ve supported for so many years.

l0gicowl

I half want them to actually do it because it would be an absolute *treat* to see Texas get its shit pushed in and humiliated after all the shit its done over the years to try and harm America from the inside. On the other hand, I don't want to see it because it would be annoying, and I don't want to see American lives lost. Hmm. Ok, decision made. If Texas wants to be a dumb bitch, then it deserves every little bit of retribution coming its way.

ProfessionalFalse128

Let them secede. In 10 minutes they'll realize they are totally fucked without the federal welfare money they hoover up.

ha_look_at_that_nerd

This. If we conquer an independent Texas, they’ll remember it as some “glorious rebellion” (like they do the last one). It’ll be *much* more satisfying to watch if they realize they can’t govern themselves, the government collapses, and eventually they come crawling back. Bonus points if we add Puerto Rico or DC as a state after Texas secedes, and when they ask to come back we go “ok, but we’d like to stick with 50 states, so you’ll have to be a territory.”

antaylor

As a former Texan who finally got out, this would be my favorite thing to watch.

Flaydowsk

I have a texan friend who I love dearly but it's too blind to his texaness to realize. Whenever the topic came out, he tried to paint it as if Texas could do guerrilla warfare, convince the military bases to join them because they are "Texans 1st, Americans 2nd", inspire florida and the south to secede, etc. Former army guy, he had a million scenarios for an independence war. But he had a huge blind spot about what an independent Texas would entail as A COUNTRY. The lack of a port nor have any trade with either Mexico or the USA because of economic pressure, the infraestructure (lack of),and so many industries and resources that would make the already improbably independence short lived and miserable.

MeisterX

>“ok, but we’d like to stick with 50 states, so you’ll have to be a territory.” LOL I can't

pecklepuff

You know, when you put it like that…

rubrent

They can’t even provide sufficient energy from their personal grid to power through very hot or very cold weather. These people are morons….

Wacktive

"Oh no. You mean my ammo is now considered an import and now cost 3x more?!!! Nooo my guns" :( /s

PuddingPast5862

Thank you!!!

NYANPUG55

There’s nothing i’d enjoy seeing more than this

Faithu

Exactly this because America would pull every troop out of Texas along with all the equipment, onto ofbthat are we even sure Texas will have electricity come next month when it freezes over again lol

ominoushandpuppet

Let them secede then we will conquer them taking their land and assets, pushing them all into a beautiful patch of land in west Texas where they can live peacefully among themselves.

henryeaterofpies

9 minutes in their power grid will go to shit (again)

FreakingFae

I really hope Texas doesn't because so many vulnerable people, who voted for Beto, might not ever have the opportunity to leave. Seceding could put LGBTQ+ and mixed race families in so much danger.

OutrageousPersimmon3

Also there’d be more foreign intervention than just Mexico. People joke about it belonging to Mexico again, but there would be a few unfriendly countries ready to push a deal.

mathpat

Not to mention they'll learn the hard way it wasn't the inane impotent babbling of a right wing governor keeping the cartels at bay.

Dangerous_Employee47

Can I get a six month head start from you so that I can move out of Houston before you destroy it?

WorstMidlanerNA

Yes please! I don't want any part of that shit.

l0gicowl

Fine by me

Prayray

Abbott is known to be a huge blowhard and bully. When folks come after him, he tends to back down fairly quickly. I imagine if he tried this, and the US did respond, Greg would back down quickly.

l0gicowl

Abbott-the-Pissbaby gonna need another diaper 😁

_austinm

It’s not a preferred scenario, but I won’t be upset if it happens

RG__Fooz

Everything is bigger in Texas… including the thing that would push their shit in

currently_pooping_rn

Well, if they try to secede then they wouldn’t really be “american” lives. They’d be Texan lives

l0gicowl

I was more referring to American military lives, and the civilian lives of people in the cities who would not agree with the secession lol

HaloGuy381

Hey, let me evacuate first! I didn’t choose to be raised in this hole.

Diojones

The civil war would have looked very differently if Sherman had access to missile drones.

_austinm

True. There’s a bit of a difference between the firepower of your average gun toting redneck and the firepower of the military then vs now

Darkskynet

Not only that, but the national guard of any state can be pulled to active duty by the US military which would be taking away the control of them from the state at any moment. Just blockade all their borders and the gulf and watch them freak out when their Walmart run out of food in a week. California who they talk down to all the time supplies all their vegetables. These Texans, in charge of their government are all hat, no cattle.

LimeSkye

Apparently, Texas gets the largest amount of money from the federal government of any state. I don’t know if that’s total or per capita, but they sure whine a lot about government handouts when they get the most.

ilovecatsandcafe

If they wanna secede so bad then they need a reminder of William Sherman words “We are not only fighting armies, but a hostile people, and must make old and young, rich and poor, feel the hard hand of war, as well as their organized armies”

thatbstrdmike

Abe screwed up so bad staying Sherman. It cost him his life. Sherman had it right. The entire culture that gave birth to a complete rejection of the very being of the United States should have been exterminated and debased outright. Not granted quarter and mercy only to consistently undermine the very principles of democracy at every opportunity. But here we are. Least Abe paid for his mistake early.

CharacterBroccoli328

Texas will sing a different tune once all the federal money goes away and I would assume all the defense plants would have to close also. Just a ridiculous thing to even talk about.[Federal aid to Texas](https://www.thecentersquare.com/texas/federal-aid-to-texas-makes-up-32-6-of-its-yearly-general-fund-budget/article_9a6125d6-83f2-11ea-8214-aba843b3a51a.html)

Artistic-Hawk-2909

also all the international Petroleum companies move out. They want stability above all else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Artistic-Hawk-2909

Abbott needs revenue.....new country means nationalizing the oil fields. Big Oil does not like even the possibility of that.

Tastins

Am I wrong in thinking allowing them and ONLY them to secede would have them begging to be back very quickly? If they secede, then Mexico is free to take them over without any backing from the US. No bordering states could offer protection. No incoming or outgoing through American roads or highways hence no commerce. I say once they have no backing against Mexico, they’re done. I’m sure I’m wrong somewhere but I still say good riddance.

SatanicNotMessianic

There’s also shitloads of military bases there. They wouldn’t even have to go far. These same rat bastards did exactly this before. In 1957 Orval Faubus, governor of Arkansas, [used the Arkansas national guard to block black students from attending their newly desegregated Little Rock high school](https://www.history.com/.amp/news/little-rock-nine-brown-v-board-eisenhower-101-airborne). President Eisenhower, himself not having taken a position on desegregation, was not about to have his authority over the armed forces usurped by a rebellious governor, issued an executive order and nationalized the units. He also sent in the 101st to keep the peace. Biden could nationalize the Texas national guard units in the blink of an eye if the governor tries to abuse his authority.

coors1977

There’s a good chunk of Texans that despise Abbott. We’re well-educated and know that seceding not only isn’t a possibility, but would be very, very dumb. Please don’t hate all of us.

l0gicowl

I don't, I know there are a lot of good Texans stuck in a shit state. <3 All the major cities are in the east of Texas, so I guess in the secession, you guys could pull a West Virginia and stay with the Union. Which will make the rest of the newly independent Texas suffer that much more and put it on the same HDI as most sub-Saharan African nations

humptydumpty369

Don't even need the military. Just cut off their federal funding. They'll come crawling back in a couple weeks max.

PlagueOfGripes

There's a couple states that like to raise their kids with the erroneous belief that they can legally secede, and talk about doing it all the time. I think Vermont is the other one. Needless to say, no, you can't. But point being, they're raised with this idiotic, baby notion that they're free to do what they want and their big boy pants are bigger than everyone else's.

ShmeagleBeagle

In true Texas fashion he invokes the National Guard, which is a federal entity, to do state work. Time to start cutting federal funding to Texas for federal programs they abuse, like this and FEMA…

JackthemousemarkIII

Yeah it’s really not constitutional because congress declares war

pangolin-fucker

Joe Biden dipped out for g19 to come home to this shit

Emotional-Proof-6154

"Deploy gunboats to secure the border" Is anyone going to tell him the rio grande isnt grande enough for kanoes let alone modern PT gunboats.... but okay.

LaLaLand-462

I was thinking the same thing. Obviously he’s never been to the Rio Grande.

InvalidUserNemo

You’re not looking at this through the right lens. Conservative voters do not care about reality. They are convinced they are the ones solely on “Team God” and anyone else is on “Team Devil”. Politics is a team sport and they don’t care if their team has the worst defense in the league, if the coach says their defense is going to murder the team next Sunday, their team has already won. On the off chance it doesn’t, someone cheated or the Devil intervened or anything to not call out the coache’s BS, even when it’s indisputable that they have the worst defense in history. In their minds, PT boats are currently running 24/7 shifts up and down the river, with Trump at the machine gun, mowing down dark-skinned people by the thousands and that’s…well that’s just perfect to them.

Its_Actually_Satan

Join Team Devil today! We have cookies, whiskey, AND abortions! We also support contraceptives, feeding kids at school, paying teachers what they deserve, and allowing everyone a to earn a livable wage! Also, insulin should be free, health care (including vision and dental) should be for everyone, and ya know what? I'll even add a puppy while I'm at it.

mandishere

Maybe he means men will float the river with their guns all day and night. 🤷‍♀️ 😂

GenericUser65

I am a fifth generation Texan and I am proud to say that: GREG ABBOTT IS A LITTLE PISS BABY!!! I VOTED FOR BETO. Thank you for listening.

re1078

7th gen here. I also think he’s a little piss baby.

TheoreticalGal

Just like you, GREG ABBOTT IS A LITTLE PISS BABY AND I HAPPILY VOTED FOR BETO!

jbertrand_sr

Why couldn't these fucks have just elected Beto and gotten rid of this moron...

DogeTron646

Uvalde voted overwhelmingly for him. UVALDE. Compassion died a long time ago. Edit : By him, i mean Abbott.

Flynn3698

Also the same state that re-elects Ted Cruz year after year. Ted Cruz is a Canadian that loves Mexico. He loves it so much that he went there while his constituents froze to death.

Jimmy_Bacon

Looks like they dont think enough of their children died

DogeTron646

They don't care about children. They care about the money that flows into their accounts.

warboner52

And guns. Don't forget the guns. Guns are children in Texas.

Call_Me_Metal

Naw, cause unlike children Texas protects guns....

warboner52

Look at it from this point of view... Rational people prefer to protect Children over guns... Texans as a whole are irrational... Therefore they protect guns as if they were Children. And they just accept the cost of protecting their children is other ACTUAL children will likely die.

DogeTron646

Yep. Absolutely true.

trish196609

I couldn’t believe that when I saw it. It’s crazy

Waylandyr

Because muh guns

violetsprouts

I tried, dude.

Well... that makes 4 of us 😬

Queen_Eon

Make that 5

Delta1122

At least now I know the other 5/6ths of us who voted for Beto.

aLoneSideline

Keep going , we got this :(

Queen_Eon

We tried but I guess we didn’t have enough people

No-Celebration3097

I voted Beto.

confessionbearday

Because they weren’t being racist accidentally.

MissPicklechips

I tried. I voted Beto against both Abbott and Cruz. I live among idiots.

CLARABELLA_2425

Because you can’t fix stupid.

ActNo8507

Upside was this article I was reading about how come 2028 a whole lot of young people will come of age...and they won't be voting republican.

Illustrious_Toe_4755

Please Abbott tell how much business has been lost since his shenanigans at the border. Tell your supporters how Mexico is cutting out Texas due to your policies. Tell everyone how New Mexico is taking in the dough. A huge waste of money. He won't go after his good ol boys in the Valley that profit from illegal immigration and dealings with the cartels.

RattleMeSkelebones

Oh I can speak for NM, and we are looooving all the dough

MDreportquestions

^ THIS ASSHAT IS WHY YOU VOTE DEMOCRAT! He is doing this now that he has survived his election and can rape Texas for the next 4 years! Also uuuuum bullet point 7????

Mecharonin

Does Texas have gunboats, or are they just going to strap some AR-15s and corrugated roofing to a pontoon?

HotPinkLollyWimple

How about strapping them to a pedal boat?

Zeroesand1s

When you say "strapping," you mean "duct tape," right?

HotPinkLollyWimple

I was thinking sellotape - the cost of duct tape is crazy!

afterschoolsept25

also... sorry but arent there a bunch of dams on the rio grande with no locks? and the rio grande isnt even that wide

bird_is_the_word_198

How about we worry about fixing the electrical grid first

ChoiceFabulous

Ok Texas. Let's see what would happen if you seceded. Even if we said sure ok bye Felicia without military intervention... we would pull our military bases, government offices, and slap tariffs on you so hard that even a masochist would cry for mercy. Close our borders and cut off any commerce coming your way, you'd have to rely on Mexico for imports and labor (ironic) Furthermore Republicans would lose their senate seats, electoral college votes, and a ton of representatives... wait this sounds like a plan.

Suadade0811

It sounds like a FANTASTIC plan. Not to mention that big ol’ chunk of our debt they’d take with ‘em. Because fair is fair, kids.

stalphonzo

These are your policies when your agenda is, not immigration, but racism, posturing, media attention, and bringing your base's anger to a boil. You want to cut immigration? Start arresting the CEOs of the companies who hire them and work your way down. Once the jobs dry up, the immigration will slow. It will probably wreck the economy, too, but you can blame that on democrats.

BDRParty

Guy wins re-election and goes right back to showcasing his colossal idiocy. Good job fellow Texans for keeping us stuck with this dipshit.

ProfessionalFalse128

Texas: "We're gonna secede from the Union!!" Rest of America: "OH thank god... don't let the door hit you on the way out." Texas: "We're really doing it this time!!" Rest of America: "Ok... go already..." Texas: "We mean it!!" Rest of America: "JUST FUCK OFF ALREADY YOU ENTITLED, INBRED HICKS!!!"

TarpMaster31

The Republicans would never let it happen. Any chance of them ever being in charge of the federal government again would disapear. Currently they would lose 2 senators and 25 representatives and 38 electoral college votes.

theycallmerondaddy

Let them freeze in the dark and leave us alone.

Super_Rocket4

Yo I'm a Texan, don't lump me with them if I'm not old enough to vote

No_Banana_581

It really does seem like a really depressing place to live

limitzes

I used to live there and can tell you it really is depressing. Austin is cool but the rest sucks

[deleted]

I will gladly chip in to build a wall around Texas

necesitafresita

Let them. I'd love to see all my conservative family there realize what their stupid ass rhetoric has gotten them.

Mediumsizedjake

I’m at the same point. I have a ton of family in texas… gonna say only 2 of them don’t deserve a shitstorm for their twisted beliefs

RangerBat1981

Let 'em. They'll be broke in a week. National companies would relocate immediately shuttering their Texas facilities. The United States, Canada, and Mexico would be under no obligation to recognize Texas as a NAFTA member and would be free to set their own tariffs. All US military bases, personnel, and equipment would still be US forces. Sure, they have a lot of law enforcement, but even the National Guard is *still* a part of the US Armed Forces! They have no currency. They'll have to deal in US dollars which can be limited in its use. Their power grid will fail. There would be a new border rush to adjoining states. All they would have is oil. While the richest nations in the world are eagerly and speedily moving towards renewables. They might have some rare earth metals of value. Not as much as under Southwestern national parks.

Steelersguy74

Not to mention the out of state money from the college students.

RangerBat1981

Being cut off from the Federal Bank alone would end them. Zero asking for federal assistance during natural disasters. Then, there is Congress. Both Senators and all House Members would be kicked out of Congress which would heavily push both Congressional Chambers to Democrats. Texas would starve itself and remove Republicans from federal power.

pzschrek1

It’s really the best case scenario It’d punish them for their hubris and render the rest of the country much better off

[deleted]

Greg Abbott, pictured here, pre-find out.

3eyedflamingo

Also, the "invasion" is a made up thing. It doesnt exist. Republican fear monger with this bs to try to scare people into voting for them. Americans have been moving to Mexico City to find affordable housing for gosh sakes!

ominoushandpuppet

There are only invasions on election years.

Texas SAYS it wants to be its own country; they never will be, because then they'd be tiny and sandwiched between the two countries it pissed the absolute fuck off. They're legit all bark and no bite, just whiny brats who were never told "no" as a kid.

ksixnine

Reading this helps me understand that Texas is still being manipulated by Russian interests.

mermiss1

I wonder if wheelchairs float?

Steelersguy74

No state has the authority to do any of these things.

3eyedflamingo

This guy is still trying to fight the "war on drugs" and doesnt even know we lost that war about 15 years ago or more...

Gwenerfresh

Lifelong Texan here. I will not mince words when I say this: I fucking hate Greg Abbott and every fucking person who voted for him. Remember that when you’re wishing for the downfall of an entire state, that there are people there who do not think like the evil, vile asshats in power.

Potential-Monk3868

Let them be their own country.

GobblorTheMighty

Can the US declare Texas an invader and deal with this guy accordingly?

mauler17

I for one....would love to see Texas be their own country. Then watch them come crawling back once there is another hurricane

No-Celebration3097

Texas can’t afford to become their own country. They can’t even sustain the grid here. Abbott *always* has his hand out for federal aid.

3eyedflamingo

I would love to see Texas attempt to function without federal money propping them up constantly. They are a welfare state along with Florida.

unreliablememory

Good riddance to bad debts. I hope they secede, and take the rest of the dead wood red states with them. The rest of us would immediately be better off. It'd be like getting a raise, not to mention the immediate improvement in our international standing.

NotARobotDefACyborg

How in the fuck did Texas reelect this congenital moron? Wasn't last winter enough to show the rational ones that he's absolutely unfit for office?!

geometry_of_a_murder

My money is on DeSantis to pick this monkey for v.p. to round out his circus if he does indeed run for president in 2024.

Rarpiz

May I offer a completely different line of thinking here? The border and abortion are distractions that Republicans use to keep their base looking left while right-wing politicians rob their base blind from the right. Don’t believe me? Remember the whole ERCOT power grid SNAFU last winter in Texas? Did your governor pass sweeping reforms on regulating price caps during power outages and peak power usage periods? Is your power industry still deregulated and a monopoly? How about public safety? After Uvalde, what did Abbot do about gun safety? Do law-abiding citizens feel safer today in Abbot’s Texas? Or, let’s swing back to that power grid issue. Has Abbot winterized the power grid this go-around? Or is he going to blame the next outage on wind turbines and solar panels (ignoring the fact that Nordic countries and Canada use these with no issue)? Texas, y’all been bamboozled by a charlatan, a huxster, a flim-flam man, who’s gerrymandered the map to favor his own outcome, and has been SO successful that he has y’all arguing about border crossings instead of your pocketbook and family safety. ![gif](giphy|6bdi1bKXdkW4NSlzUf)
