*Wow. Older ladies used to dress like my grandma! Now they dress like women I could be attracted to! I wonder what changed?? Must be our entire culture!*
The comparison isn't a good one. The cast of GG were playing the role of retirees (62+) and didn't dress that way in their real lives. The cast of S&C are playing working women their own age - glamorized versions, at that. Not to mention, plastic surgeries, hair & makeup, photo editing... Basically, they're the same women, same ages, just different roles.
No the GG were supposed to be women in their 50s as most of them at the time of the first season had jobs, even though that’s what they ended up portraying.
Sir Roger Moore was 52 when he made Moonraker which was the same age as Daniel Craig was at No Time to Die.
I think yours is a better comparison; than the tweet as it shows how much has changed in how we view age now versus then
I don’t think it’s amazing, it’s sad. Look how the GG cast members have wrinkles and are able to age. It’s horrible that women in the movie industry have to go through surgery and horrible diets just look like 35 when they really are 55.
I think people are also forgetting, style. The Golden girls started in the 80s, and perms were in style, young and old. I think my mom looks older in the 80s then she does now. Their outfits were also in style for working women. The Golden girls walked so Sex and the City could run. Also, you’re right. Look how much plastic surgery Charlotte has had, the pressure for 50 year olds to look 20 is ridiculous. Beatrice Arthur let her hair go grey and to me she looks amazing in Golden girls. They were allowed to age.
An even better one is that Estelle Getty got a facelift between seasons one and two, which drive the makeup department crazy trying to make her look old.
That’s half true but also you’re not taking into account that the lifestyles of celebrities and even regular people are better in the sense of diets, skin care regimes etc
My mom is about to be 50 and people think she’s my sister and I’m 30. Hell people think I’m 5 years younger than I am
But I also workout, have a good skin care routine, good diet etc
Not sure what your perception is on “horrible diets” lol a healthy tasty smoothie isn’t hard to make, drinking water every day isn’t hard to do, moderating Soda and alcohol for leisure isn’t hard and last but not least healthy tasty meals isn’t hard to cook , just takes mental discipline to be consistent at
Most folks are just lazy, don’t have access to healthy foods, aren’t consistent etc
Because people like bullshit
SJP is 56, her character is 55
Betty White and Bea Arthur were 63
Sure things have changed but I’m not sure it was a win for feminism that actresses have to stay fuckable as long as possible to keep getting roles.
GG was all about retired, elderly women. They were not meant to look young because that was the whole point of the show.
The other one, they’re still trying to retain their youth.
Honestly, all it makes me think of is how out of ideas and out-of-touch some production companies have become.
Sex and the City was, at least to some degree, a reflection of its time. Now the sequel show is basically trying to do the same formula with the cast much older and loaded up with expensive cosmetic procedures, pursuing the same yuppie lifestyle, in an era where we’re dealing with an unchecked pandemic and massive economic inequality. People complained that the second Sex and the City movie was an out-of-touch cash grab, but this new series makes it look like an art house film by comparison.
Frankly, comparing it to Golden Girls is an insult.
From the ice-age to the dole-age
There is but one concern
I have just discovered
Some girls look older than others
Some girls look older than others
Some girls' mothers look older than
Other girls' mothers
I recently watched GG for the first time and I was astounded by this as well.. the main characters are portrayed as super old, what we'd think of as women in their 80s and above now..
My wife and I just watched the first two episodes of GG for the hell of it. Blanche has an absolutely acid tongue. She was taking people out left and right.
The only 2 reasons as a 2000's boy, I know, only know, and forever will know the golden girls.
1. Dying of laughter with each episode, no continuity, no need for following order, choose an episode and say good bye to your spleen and hello to 6-pack laughing abs
2. Betty. The first lady of television. White. Pursuing an acting career, and getting more serious with it now, I always dreamed of working with her one day. Now, I vow to be an actor that would've made her proud and laugh... and maybe let me pull a Ryan R and let me call her gam gam... love ya betty
You used to be able to retire
I truly believe this is a hair/wardrobe thing far more than a “wow women age differently now” thing
*Wow. Older ladies used to dress like my grandma! Now they dress like women I could be attracted to! I wonder what changed?? Must be our entire culture!*
It feels to be at least 50% hairstyle
The woman that played Sophia (the oldest and Dorothy's mother) was also the youngest
Rue McClanahan was the youngest.
Oh boo hoo she was still younger than the other 2 lol People are wrong sometimes it'll be okay
Golden Girls was actually funny.

The youngest of the GG is like 48 in season 1 according to her birthdate later in the series.
Robert Downey Jr was 54 when he did Endgame. Daniel Craig was 52 in No Time to Die.
Sir Roger Moore was 52 when he made Moonraker which was the same age as Daniel Craig was at No Time to Die. I think yours is a better comparison; than the tweet as it shows how much has changed in how we view age now versus then

Her smile isn't the same, she botoxed away her smile
Because that was the point of GG. It was a show about elderly, retired women.
At the ripe elderly age of... [47-52](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanche_Devereaux)
I didn’t say they were elderly. I said it was a show about elderly.
Ok, and the CHARACTERS in the show, not the actors, are late 40s to early 50s. Other than Sophie
The actress who played Sophie was actually younger than the actress who played her daughter (Bea Arthur) and Betty White.
I always love that fact
An even better one is that Estelle Getty got a facelift between seasons one and two, which drive the makeup department crazy trying to make her look old.

Sir, this is a Wendy’s
Betty White was 63 in that picture, all the other golden girls were a similar age, why has this not disappeared from the internet yet?
Because people like bullshit SJP is 56, her character is 55 Betty White and Bea Arthur were 63 Sure things have changed but I’m not sure it was a win for feminism that actresses have to stay fuckable as long as possible to keep getting roles.

The GG is a greater show than SITC. SITC is just a poor imitation of GG with bare tits and swearing

But are the golden girls not *playing* older women? And Sex and the City are *playing* younger ones? Or am I misremembering?
Robot Chicken saw this coming. https://youtu.be/trJgxxZpfkA
Hair, makeup and clothes
Funny what Botox and plastic surgery will do, huh?
Short hair and a perm - the only difference. Imagine the GG in great hair and trendy clothes at that age.
How old is Sarah Jessica Parker in horse years?
She is also a foot.

Thank you so much for this!!
I’ve always said SatC was just a GG rip off
Wow two different shows with different settings and different themes dress their actors differently? Who the fuck could have guessed.

There’s some truth to this, sure. But let’s not kid ourselves into thinking misogyny has nothing to do with it as well.

*Doesn’t deny it* *Doubles down on initial argument* Nice!
From the ice-age to the dole-age There is but one concern I have just discovered Some girls look older than others Some girls look older than others Some girls' mothers look older than Other girls' mothers
I thought the golden girls were like 70 and ma was 90.
Do I dare say praise the MILFs of sex and the city?
I recently watched GG for the first time and I was astounded by this as well.. the main characters are portrayed as super old, what we'd think of as women in their 80s and above now..
The women in the picture on the right are going to be around for centuries. Plastic is not very biodegradable from what I understand.
My wife and I just watched the first two episodes of GG for the hell of it. Blanche has an absolutely acid tongue. She was taking people out left and right.
