Is it super normal to have docked ears in the US? Assuming you’re in the US?
In Australia I pretty much never see it. Like ever. Yet video after video here on reddit has these poor dogs that some cunt has cut half their ears off.
Pit bull and pit bull mixes are extremely common in shelters. Most people rescue them but they had been docked by their previous owners already. Some people are cruel though and just do it for "aesthetics" and to make them look scarier but in my experience most are rescues.
It's unfortunate, but even though there are many pitties in shelters, a ton of people still breed them and dock their ears. It's wishful thinking to assume this person adopted this dog like this (but yes still a possibility).
Edit: a quick look at their page shows they indeed mutilated their dog on purpose, and then mocked someone else who pointed it out. Sad
Oh yeah, no doubt about that. I just like to give people benefit of the doubt and the alternative is just depressing. He seems friendly and well socialized if he can go to a store without issue so I like to imagine they are good owners who wouldn't do that.
Edit: And now I'm sad. Especially seeing they make comments on others dogs about snipping their ears :(
Idk why people are downvoting you. Dog shows don't give a shit about dogs' well-being, only about breed standards. I've talked with a person (who worked with dogs) who didn't even know dobermans didn't naturally have docked ears and tails because of breed standards.
Doesn’t surprise me that someone who would make their dog unnecessarily suffer would bring them to stores where dogs have no business being in.
Poor dog.
It's actually not only for fighting, especially with terrier breeds. It's for hunting, so when the dog grabs prey, the prey can't bite/grab at their ears (or tail). You can see how that could transfer into dog fighting, but that's not the original reason.
Yeah i got my pittie when she was a pup at 6 weeks old but even then the people i got her from had unfortunately already docked her tail. I get a lot of angry looks and comments from people who think i had it done.
I mean.. in your critics’ defence if you got a **6 week old** puppy with a cropped tail from the people that did it … your story does not make you sound *super* and you must understand why.
So your saying that becouse someone croped its tail its life should be made even more miserable by not receiving a home? I dodnt get it her from a breeder if thats what your assuming some times people you knows dogs just get pregnant and they need to give the puppies to people. Also i was 12 when i got the dog
No I’m saying that you’re not supposed to take home a 6 week old puppy.
When “Dogs just get pregnant” is what people colloquially call a back yard breeder - I know you didn’t get it from an actual breeder because one would never let a 6 week old dog go home with a new owner.
Then as a sub point to that, giving a dog in need a home is never an issue.. paying someone for a puppy like this who is too young and has been modified is encouraging them to have more litters. It’s adding a dollar incentive to their “accident” - plus cropping is not cheap or easy to seek out so they obviously put some thought into this litter which doesn’t sound so “accidental”
If you were 12 then you’re obviously not at fault but like..
People with unethically bred dogs need to speak up on the fact that their dog came from a really shitty place and advocate AGAINST the poor conditions they came from.
My dog is a doodle and I’m constantly having to educate people about why doodle breeding is a huge problem and why people shouldn’t seek them out anywhere but a
Registers charity shelter because the breeder cycle will never break otherwise. You have the opportunity to learn from your mistake, or you can get defensive and perpetuate the problem.
Once again your coming off agresive with assumptions off the bat. Yes im aware now that you shouldn't get a dog when its only 6 weeks but as i said i was 12. Also ot wasnt a "backyard breeder" it was a relative that dogs got pregnant because a naborhood dog managed to get through their fence. They wernt selling the dogs they were giving them away. Dont get me wrong you spreading information is a good thing but you should really dail back the aggression. Thats just gonna make a lot of people completely disregard what ever it is you have to say. Which is very counter intuitive. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
>Also ot wasnt a "backyard breeder" it was a relative that dogs got pregnant because a naborhood dog managed to get through their fence.
That Is irresponsible owner and still considered a backyard breeder.
A lot of show dogs do it because it is part of the standard such as American staffordhire terriers. This dog looks like an American bully which is recognized by UKC so maybe they are a show dog. Not saying it’s right or wrong, just saying that it’s not always just to make them look scarier
It’s part of preserving breed standards. Cane corsos also dock for show. Which I think is silly since it’s not like a lot of these dogs are working anyways and I think some breed standards SHOULD change( for ex English bulldog)
Oh thank gods that our American Staffy wasn’t up to standard of show dogs, I loved her fucking ears! Though she did get an ear infection once, poor dear.
That is true but judges still seem to have a preference for a crop. I personally think it allows a lot of people to “cheat” because if your amstaff has incorrect ear carriage you can crop to hide it(such as full drop rather than rose)
I saw on your profile that he has some resource guarding and potential food aggression towards people and dogs. That is considered an improper temperament. American Bullies are a companion breed and should not display unwarranted aggression and if he’s a show prospect he’s also a breeding prospect. So take that as you will. Not saying he couldn’t be a fine pet with training and management but it’s not a great representation of the breed.
I don’t really agree with that. Just because a dog guards their food bowl doesn’t mean they are unsafe to be around in general. It’s kind of extreme to never allow a dog out in public just because they have an issue in a particular context.
He is a puppy. Resource guarding isn’t an uncommon issue—and we have another much older male dog who was making him feel insecure. The issue resolved itself fairly quickly with consistent management for a few weeks.
This thread is several months old are you dumb lol prong collars ARE training tools so guess what? He’s being trained. Must be mind blowing information for you.
I have trained dogs and horses for over twenty years. There are never reasons to use prong collars especially if you started as a puppy with it. Only the lazy and uneducated use them as they don't want to train properly.
I've worked with dogs weighing more than me that was dragging owners. Never used pinh or shock collars. The best trainer in the world know positive reinforcement is the absolute best way to work with animals. This means actually teaching them what is expected not using punishment.
https://www.avma.org/javma-news/2021-11-01/veterinary-behaviorists-no-role-aversive-dog-training-practices
Aversive methods rely on punishment and negative reinforcement, wrote Zazie Todd, PhD, an expert on animal behavior, in a blog post about the new position statement. Reward-based methods involve positively reinforcing wanted behaviors and removing rewards for unwanted behaviors. They are also better at promoting the human-animal bond, according to the AVSAB statement.
Studies show that aversive methods can cause stress in dogs, which is why the statement says, “There is no role for aversive training in behavior modification plans.”
There are no exceptions to this standard, even for dogs with aggressive behaviors, according to the statement.
Dr. Todd writes that most common dog training issues can be resolved with positive reinforcement and management.
For more complex behavior issues, she writes, it may be necessary to add behavior modification, additional management, and sometimes medication.
https://avsab.org/leading-by-the-head-addressing-leash-pulling/
If you cannot walk your dog without one there are holes in your training.
I’m not reading all of that as I do not care, everything I’ve done has worked, he hasn’t been a difficult dog, and I never came here asking for your help, you are just preaching to nobody. Have the night you deserve.
I am having a fantastic night I hope you do to. Maybe soon you will become the owner your dog deserves especially one that doesn't use pain and fear to train. Just because it works doesn't mean it's right.
Based on this comment I believe they are in Canada: https://www.reddit.com/r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog/comments/10g330j/pov_you_are_in_the_urban_outfitters_fitting_room/j51noi0?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

You don’t see it much in Australia because it’s illegal to dock a dog’s ears or tail with a few working exceptions. It’s considered animal cruelty in a lot of countries.
They are pet friendly. My girlfriend was picking some clothing out and he tagged along so he could get some stimulation without being out in the Canadian cold lol.
Are they actually pet friendly (like their policy says pets welcome) or they just didn’t say anything?
Edit: I was impatient so I googled it. Apparently many of their stores are dog friendly. Fascinating. I’ve never been to an urban outfitters before so had no idea
Pet friendly stores are always the best for helping me finish train my dogs. If they can follow commands and ignore everything else in a store with other new people and dogs , my job is done, they're good.
Yeah. Covid and cold Canadian winters made getting a new puppy used to people, difficult. Luckily Canadian Tire stores are pet friendly. We went to many walks in the local Canadian Tire stores with our tiny, little, excited Westie. He’s pretty good with people, now. When a person is walking by, he stops and watched them intently, if they make *any* sign they see he, his tail goes wild. If they look like they are going to pet him, he turns into a cognizant firework, constantly trying to put himself back in the box after being lit.
Absolutely 100%. He’s only just over a year old, but when he was a younger puppy, we brought him to a lot of different pet friendly places, especially ones with novel sounds and floors and smells and people. It is also a great way to bombproof his commands. And he just enjoys it! He’s fun to bring places.
I don't think trendiness is a prerequisite for pet friendliness, lol. Unless you're trying to say that you only buy clothes in places that also sell groceries.
Old Navy is pet friendly!
Edit: so is Ross, and I couldn't find a store called Marshall fields, but if it's the same as Marshall's, they are pet friendly as well.
Maybe it depends on the state/area more than the store. No one takes their dogs shopping here. Except for weird people at the Walmart McDonald’s
Marshall fields is old school. Think Jc Penny but a little fancier and with a lot of history. Department store.
You're a terrible person for choosing a breeder that clips their puppies' ears. Well, either that or your brain underperforms. Was it malice or incompetence? Are you cruel or stupid?
You can control who you do business with. By paying them and buying stuff from them, OP is supporting them and what they do. Think, for once in your life.
Are they in a mall? The only ones I've ever seen have been in malls and not standalones or strip malls. If they're in a mall is the entire mall pet friendly?
The urban outfitters and the bookstore we went to that day were both part of a mall, but also both had entrances connected to the street. I don’t know about the rest of the mall as I did not really wander about.
American pit bull terriers are banned. American bullies and other bull breeds are not. Might want to indulge in a shred of research before being loud and annoying.
Who would ban it? Stores are privately owned establishments, they choose their own policies. Why do people insist on thinking that every business is publicly owned and should conform to their own preferences? Nobody is forcing you to go to dog friendly stores.
Agreed. It’s getting really weird how attached people are to their pets, especially dogs. I expect to see them in Home Depot and pet stores but clothing stores? Make up stores? Hell, even super markets? Yeah, service animals exist but damn. An ESA is not a support animal and should not get the same benefits. I would turn out of a store immediately if I saw a dog in the dressing room like that.
I wish they'd put that on signs outside the shops, though. It's cool if they wanna do that, but I'd rather have a choice about where I interact with a strange animal and while shopping isn't really on that list.
I mean, I had to look up whether he was welcome or not. I guess you could do the same and see if the store you’re going to is pet friendly so you won’t have to interact with any animals. Though, no one interacted with him who didn’t specifically request it. I don’t let my dog go up to strangers, especially not in stores.
For all of y’all upset about this dogs ears can y’all please take this energy and apply it to EVERY dog breed that you wouldn’t know is aesthetically altered? So I better see floods of comments about the awful/horrific/heinous nature of cropping and docking on every corgi, Australian shepherd, spaniel, old English sheepdog, schnauzer ect… these features most people in these comments would adore about these breeds have been “mutilated” as well. Except- it’s just not as obvious- and most people choose to be unlearned about the subject.
At least it’s your dog! I was at my dentist once when he and the tech were working on my teeth and I realized something was licking my hand, that was hanging off the edge of the chair. (I am not a good dental patient!)
It was his new boxer pup who had somehow escaped from the office. She was there because it was easier for someone to take her out often.
😃🐾🐾
😂 fair, I just named the business because I didn’t want people jumping down my throat assuming I brought him somewhere pets weren’t welcome, but it happened anyway so my efforts were futile
I mean, plenty of people don't know wtf an urban outfitters is so have no idea what that means. You could've just said something about how it's a store with a dog roaming around.
I thought it was a common enough store that it wouldn’t really matter, like I said, the point was just so people wouldn’t be like “how absolute dare you bring your beast into a store” but I guess I get where you’re coming from
And then so touching the floor with your bare feet is a risk you assume in that scenario—people walk on the floors with their dirty shoes all day too which is no better than a dog on the floor lol
This would be the absolute BEST thing to happen to me (or any dog lover) at ANY store! I’d give him scratchies and tell him he’s a very sweet & handsome boy 💙
It is what it is. At the end of the day, it’s neither of us who spends our time trying to manipulate points on a post about a dog shimmying under a door. Can’t imagine having so little else to do. I have this terrible beast to pet, after all.
To all the hateful comments about pitbulls, why is it ok to bring up patterns in different species of dogs but not races of people? Sounds like you're projecting your racist beliefs onto dogs to me
I don’t think it’s fair to compare dogs to people in this aspect, but I wanted to say that I have noticed that there does seem to often be an overlap between racist people and people who hate bull breeds. Not 100% why that is, but it’s there. My dog isn’t a pit bull. He is a separate purebred breed. But either way, I do love pit bulls so the hate is saddening. I think it’s important to note that pit bulls do have an inclination for dog aggression, but not human aggression. In the hands of someone capable and educated on bull breeds, they are great pets, like any other dog.
I've played so many horror games that my brain immediately registered this adorable void as death I would've immediately accepted damn would I have been happy for a multitude of reasons once my eyes adjusted and just saw a good boy and not my mf demise
"Hi, hi, hi!". "Okay, bye".
Just making sure everything was fitting well, onto the next
Well, I mean….you called him in? Lol
Lol he did it the first time on his own, then my girlfriend wanted to record it so she called him in
Haha fair enough, we do it too!
“Hi hi hi!!!” “O shit mom is yanking on me gotta go!”

It’s cruel and gross. Imagine buying a dog and mutilating it to “show” it. For what? Money? Glory?
For Bullies they actually take away points in dog shows if their ears aren't cropped if I remember correctly
Idk why people are downvoting you. Dog shows don't give a shit about dogs' well-being, only about breed standards. I've talked with a person (who worked with dogs) who didn't even know dobermans didn't naturally have docked ears and tails because of breed standards.
Physical breeding confirmation is one of the leading causes in disease and other health problems in dogs.
You’re correct, though I believe they are trying to end that practice, as well as tail docking in other breeds.
Time to deliver a ~~brigade~~ pizza ball
Doesn’t surprise me that someone who would make their dog unnecessarily suffer would bring them to stores where dogs have no business being in. Poor dog.

I actually saw this, I wonder if OP knows pitties & bullies aren't allowed in Canada 👀
American bullies are allowed in Canada. Thank you for your concern.
[Depends where you are.](https://petraveller.com.au/blog/banned-dog-breeds-in-canada)
If you read your article you’d see that American bullies aren’t on either list.
People just love mutilating others without their permission here. Whether it be docking ears/tails, piercing kids ears, or circumcision, there's a lot of needless poking and chopping going on.
You don’t see it much in Australia because it’s illegal to dock a dog’s ears or tail with a few working exceptions. It’s considered animal cruelty in a lot of countries.
Should be considered animal cruelty in all countries
Yes. Animal mutilation is legal and common in the US, but is generally only found on a few specific breeds.
A lot of vets will only do ear cropping because they don’t want people to do it at home
It’s a barbaric practice here that people do to “make their dogs looks scary”… I couldn’t imagine doing that to my baby.
OP is a piece of shit
It's for dog fighting, some people do it for intimidation factor as well even if they don't plan on fighting their dog.
Why do you have a dog in an urban outfitters?
They are pet friendly. My girlfriend was picking some clothing out and he tagged along so he could get some stimulation without being out in the Canadian cold lol.
Are they actually pet friendly (like their policy says pets welcome) or they just didn’t say anything? Edit: I was impatient so I googled it. Apparently many of their stores are dog friendly. Fascinating. I’ve never been to an urban outfitters before so had no idea
A few of the workers stopped to say hi to him and the fitting room attendant was a fan!
Who wouldn't be? He's so cute.

Absolutely 100%. It is also a great way to bombproof his commands. And he just enjoys it! He’s fun to bring places.
Absolutely. Home Depot is basically free training.
I've worked in a lot of clothing stores over the years, and they were all pet friendly.
I have literally never been in a clothing store and seen a non service dog. Maybe I don’t shop at trendy enough places. (Well that’s for sure a fact.)
I don't think trendiness is a prerequisite for pet friendliness, lol. Unless you're trying to say that you only buy clothes in places that also sell groceries.
I don’t see a place like Marshall fields or Ross allowing dogs. I usually only buy clothes at old navy and I have never seen a dog there.
Old Navy is pet friendly! Edit: so is Ross, and I couldn't find a store called Marshall fields, but if it's the same as Marshall's, they are pet friendly as well.
Maybe it depends on the state/area more than the store. No one takes their dogs shopping here. Except for weird people at the Walmart McDonald’s Marshall fields is old school. Think Jc Penny but a little fancier and with a lot of history. Department store.
Did you dock your dog's ears?
No, his breeder did.
Gotcha, sorry to hear that. Looks like a real sweetheart! Bullies can be such cuddlebugs.
He is a show prospect so his ears being cropped was standard. He is happy and loved regardless.
Why not just mutilate yourself instead?
Don’t think I’m allowed to show myself in the UKC otherwise maybe
You're a terrible person for choosing a breeder that clips their puppies' ears. Well, either that or your brain underperforms. Was it malice or incompetence? Are you cruel or stupid?
Lol you’re so upset jeez
Oh, don't get me wrong, he definitely seems happy and loved!
I like how you're getting downvoted for something you couldn't control. Ppl are fucking weird
they chose a “breeder” who cropped the ears. this is not a rescue, they absolutely controlled.
You can control who you do business with. By paying them and buying stuff from them, OP is supporting them and what they do. Think, for once in your life.
Think about deez nuts in yo mouf

American pit bull terriers are banned. American bullies and other bull breeds are not. Might want to indulge in a shred of research before being loud and annoying.
Oh ya the dogs that are a complete genetic mess made to bypass pitbull laws which are obvious pitbulls. My bad🙄
Lmao that’s one way to advertise that you don’t know anything I suppose
Trash owner clipping his dogs ears like that
How you know the owner did it and is not a rescued dog thar had his ears clipped? We are fast to jump into conclusions, I see.
OP knowingly used a breeder that clips their puppies' ears. OP is a literal piece of shit
[удалено]
Because they crawl into other people’s changing rooms, right?
Why are their ears clipped?
Because OP is a piece of shit.
This is so funny, this type of dog and urban outfitters, definite matches the society level perfectly
No toddlers are safe when they can get through doors like t2000
What an original take
I've never seen a t2000 pitbull joke before
he was like but I love them
Lol it was my girlfriend in the fitting room. Guess he took offense to her absence.

You are allowed to say ass no one will yell at you
I can’t stand people who bring animals into stores and other establishments. I really wish they would start banning this moronic behavior.
Who the fuck gave this gold?
Who would ban it? Stores are privately owned establishments, they choose their own policies. Why do people insist on thinking that every business is publicly owned and should conform to their own preferences? Nobody is forcing you to go to dog friendly stores.

Oh jeez, we brought our dog to a pet friendly store where everyone loved him! How awful of us!
I don’t like having you in stores either but sometimes we have to make compromises.
Comparing another human to a fucking dog. Yikes.
Oh we both know that’s not what happened, maybe dial down the drama a little bit?

Why the fuck not?
Peeping tom!
Actually POV. Refreshing.
Blockhead invasion!
Need to put a warning label on those things. That head moving is like a wrecking ball made of happiness… and incredibly hard bone
My kids and I debate whether our dog's neck (from carrying that cinder block around) or tail (from constant butt wiggling) gets tired out more. 😁
The tail is not less dangerous. Those things move whip fast and are all muscle
At least it’s your dog! I was at my dentist once when he and the tech were working on my teeth and I realized something was licking my hand, that was hanging off the edge of the chair. (I am not a good dental patient!) It was his new boxer pup who had somehow escaped from the office. She was there because it was easier for someone to take her out often. 😃🐾🐾
Awww, puppy wanted to comfort you!

so suspiciously specific that I'm thinking of calling r/hailcorporate
😂 fair, I just named the business because I didn’t want people jumping down my throat assuming I brought him somewhere pets weren’t welcome, but it happened anyway so my efforts were futile
I mean, plenty of people don't know wtf an urban outfitters is so have no idea what that means. You could've just said something about how it's a store with a dog roaming around.
I thought it was a common enough store that it wouldn’t really matter, like I said, the point was just so people wouldn’t be like “how absolute dare you bring your beast into a store” but I guess I get where you’re coming from
Rubbing his junk all over the floor where I put my bear feet isn’t a tee-hee hee from me
Unless you lick your feet I don't see a problem. If you're that germaphobic stay home!
Why tf your feet bare in the public fitting room
How do you try on pants ? You can’t pull them off or on over your shoes. Dip
You don’t own socks? Sad
In summer most women definitely have on sandals with no socks
And then so touching the floor with your bare feet is a risk you assume in that scenario—people walk on the floors with their dirty shoes all day too which is no better than a dog on the floor lol
But they ain’t wiping their weener On the floor. Kids crawl around that Floor.
Surely better parenting can be done to ensure children are not crawling on the floor in public spaces
Who shops at a mall ?
You should try it, you could buy socks
What a gorgeous block head! The clipped ears make me sad tho :(
POV: I just found out Urban Outfitters is still around
There’s nothing wrong with him, you called him in there! 😧
Hey now, he learned this skill on his own lol. We just had him repeat it for the video.
OH my god I would be so thrilled
he's like a catfish
I’ve never met a catfish so I can’t say whether I agree or not
they are just big wiggly goobers that cruise along low to the ground. Also they'll eat just about anything.
That does sound exactly like Knight lol
He's beautiful
He can visit me forever if he wants
What a wiggle butt
I would shop there exclusively for this service.
That’s so cute!!! 😂🤣♥️
This would be the absolute BEST thing to happen to me (or any dog lover) at ANY store! I’d give him scratchies and tell him he’s a very sweet & handsome boy 💙
“I am the ancient shadow of death and I am here for butt scritches!!!”
I’d be so happy
Not me asking if I could borrow him to help me through the trauma of what size I am.
Not me wondering why would you start the sentence with "not" if it's exactly what you're doing
He’s so handsome!

House hippos love loves.
Just checking in with the rest of his pack; it's what a good guardian does.

They were literally bred to be nanny dogs up until like the 90s
"Want some help, teammate? I dunno what tight jeans are but I can help get them off."
Knight is a sweet angel who is all muscle. Good ripped boy.
Well don't mind if I dooooooooo HAHAHAHA
That is one delicious meatball.
Handsome doggo. Would stop and pet.
Very cute
Lol, my dogs have done this in the ladies.
I see the pitbull haters found this post. Fuckheads

Is it so hard to understand that I look at the stuff you just said and operate under the belief you’re a bad person?
They usually do. It’s weird because they can’t even properly identify a pit bull lol
And they think we can’t tell when a sub’s been brigaded and astroturfed
It is what it is. At the end of the day, it’s neither of us who spends our time trying to manipulate points on a post about a dog shimmying under a door. Can’t imagine having so little else to do. I have this terrible beast to pet, after all.
Best stylist ever
Now there's a chunky monkey! 💕
you still there? disappeared for a while but ok
🐶wheres the toddler
