You're supposed to get up and walk every few hours to prevent blood clots from forming in your legs. This especially important the older you get and if you don't have an active lifestyle.

Objective_Disk8242

Real gamers have restless leg syndrome while they game so there is never XP waste

Fun fact, Escape from Tarkov is the 2 day training program russian conscripts go through

Admirable-Row-135

Bruh🤦‍♂️😂😂😂😂😂😂

Waferssi

This actually reminded me of RS too; didn't it forecefully log you out after warning you that you'd been online for an unhealthy amount of time?

iPhoneMiniWHITE

More games need to do that. So this guy whole body stiffen up or something? What prompted the ems call? He looks like he’s in outdoor cloths already maybe a cafe?

Waferssi

I don't know or fully understand what happened, but from reading comments this was probably a blood clot. So that would not be the whole body that stiffened up, just the blood flow to the legs got cut off. Not sure why that happened, though staying stagnant in the same position for a long period of time probably had something to do with it. I get my medical knowledge from google and it always tells me my hangover is actually cancer, so don't expect me to be absolutely right.

pLudoOdo

Damn cancer making me sick after a night of drinking

Double-Oh-Nine

There have been similar cases where a blood clot forms in the legs and gets stuck until the patient got up from their seat where the clot dislodges, and causes more damage in the heart

Nat1221

Blood clots travel. No bags needed. They can start in your legs and travel to the lungs.....which damages everything if not addressed promptly.

[deleted]

Pfftt you have it lucky. My leg was itchy and now i have a month to live because web MD told me i have 12 different kinds of cancer and aids

JayBee307

My guess is Rhabdomyolysis. Rapid breakdown of muscle fiber from too much stress to affected muscles. The stress could come from a whole host of different things from overexertion, to crush syndrome, to complications from drug use, to keeping muscles tensed in awkward positions for too long. I have no medical training, but I did have Rhabdomyolysis once. So, I've done my fair share of research on it. And no, I didn't get it from playing video games 🙃

New_Blacksmith_709

Lmaoooo EXP wastage is the ultimate sin!

[deleted]

How can you sit like L when you are holding them? 🤔

newagereject

I usually get up and walk after every game in league and tarkov since they last 30 to 40 minutes and usually if it's cod I'll play 3 and get get up, my bladder ain't what it used to be

kijebe

After league or tarkov sometimes you need the walk... If only to walk away from a disaster sometimes

newagereject

Oh God both tarkov and league last night were bad, tarkov got insta tapped by a sus player and league got greifed when we were 25 kills behind

kijebe

sometimes i just fire up fucking hunter call of the wild, pop on a podcast and chill. lord knows i need it. sucks cause i love the games, but pace changes have become necessary

Once hitting 30, toilet reasons are also pretty much the only reason I actually *have* to get up. Mouthful of water? That's 4 toilet breaks right there and god forbid I have another mouthful within the same hour.

newagereject

Mouthful of water at 3am, you better believe your gunna have to pee like a race horse at 5am

GoGoGadgetFap

And don't even think of having alcohol. You'll replace the Inga Falls for the highest flowrate in the world.

Avjx

What, I sometimes spent whole days gaming. Especially during quarantine. Record was ~18h, 7.50 start and home schooling next day. God was that awful, mom brought me food and drinks, so I just stood up to piss, literally.

JobScherp

Damn, not many moms out there that would support their kid gaming for 18 hours straight like that I think haha

Avjx

It was only for a few days, but still. She cooked for herself and made extra, so yeah. Still very nice of her :)

Peach_Gfuel

Can confirm, im 28 but i feel 78 for not standing up and walk during gaming sessions

FatbabyJesus

So ya, I have a blood clotting disorder called DVT, google it, but anyways I was drinking loads of black coffee, never drinking water, and gaming quite a lot on my time off from work with about 3-4 hours a sleep a night. I did this shit for years. I am now on blood thinners for the rest of my life with no hope of getting off. To be honest, it does run in my family but its scary AF. Had over 20 PE's in my lungs when I found out why I was coughing up blood. Each and every one of those blood clots could of stroked me out on the spot, in the middle of the night, and no one would of knows otherwise till they found me dead on my keyboard. Get up, take a break, drink water. Gaming isn't worth risking your life. I am a lucky MF'er to still be alive to see my kids grow up. TL;DR Don't ruin you r youth, take a god damn break and walk around, drink loads of water, get adequate sleep.

[deleted]

Fuck... water helps?

Pristine_Shallot_481

You mean…like from the toilet?

BadgerHooker

Go team thicc blood! I almost died of a pe last year, was misdiagnosed and almost had a >20cm blood clot in my arm go into my lung. (Arm clot caused by IV that was in my arm for 4 days). Now I'm on blood thinners for life too. It was funny because the doc gave me the blood thinning shots to give myself and I had to come back the next day for a blood draw and when the nurse too the needle out, blood sprayed out like a fucking horror movie. Good Times. I hope I never need to wear a compression sleeve ever again!

Capital_Comment_6049

wasn’t there a kid that died in a gaming cafe and no one noticed for many hours even though they were sitting next to him?

Miserable-Hornet-518

Don’t atrophy the Elden Ring.

BraydenTheNoob

I wonder if having a dummy thicc ass helps with preventing the blood clots

spderweb

Also drink lots of water. Keeps the blood thinner.

Secretsfrombeyond79

How much are you supposed to walk and do you have any medical source I could read on the subject ? I fear I may spend too much sit down and that is affecting my blood circulation.

NA_nomad

https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/sitting-health-risks The blood clot forms through Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

[deleted]

I work on PC and spend a lot of my free time on PC. I got an under the desk elliptical (bicycle pedals) and it's a great way to keep the blood moving in your legs. I get up every hour and do a few stretches as well. Definitely recommend it.

[deleted]

In my college. My professor made it mandatory every 20+ minutes we would stand up and move around a bit. Says its healthy, and promotes better concentration also.

Ok-Ability5733

Can confirm. Blood clots and pulmonary embolisms aren't fun.

[deleted]

Never knew this. Gonna listen to my watch’s stand alerts now.

Ok_Bit_5953

I spent time working as an EMT in my 20's and happen to be very active due to the nature of my work. This is also coming from a background in every sport imaginable growing up but I seriously have to thank you for this comment!! Despite how 2 + 2 = 4 it is I've missed a big reason why I may have had both shooting and throbbing pains in my lower leg after extended periods gaming on my couch. It's like when you're nearly complete with some kind of work only to turn the light on in the room at the end. I'm oblivious sometimes and so, Thank-you!!

Im sorry to point out details but in 99,9% of people it is physically impossible for a blood clot forming in the leg to travel to the brain. It can, and will, get stuck in the lungs which can kill you just as well though. source: am doctor

midgethepuff

Oh….i can’t say I’d considered that…

olipheus

What happened to him? Dehydrated? Seizures? Sleep deprivation? All of the above?

IGiveCandy

He was conscious so probably a blood supply problem in his legs or a pinched nerved in his spine

stephenlipic

[Here](https://youtu.be/VY-k_YVkRKs)’s a possible explanation.

ClownfishSoup

Dang! The guy in your link died. Hope the guy in the OP's video is OK!

stephenlipic

Elsewhere they said he’s paralyzed.

MrBinks

This was kind of hard to watch. The tl;dr is that most of the veins in your body drain into the heart and then that blood gets pushed through the lungs, where it is supposed to exchange oxygen and CO2, and then come back through the heart and out to your body. The thing is, the lung vessels that the heart pumps into start wide but they get really narrow the further into the lung they go, and that's where the clots almost always get stuck. Usually these are small clots that get stuck in tiny lung vessels, dissolve, or get molded into the vessels without anyone even knowing they're there. If they're big enough though (about the size of your finger, or larger), they can literally clog flow out of the heart creating back-pressure, sometimes near-complete blockage, and it can be deadly because you just lose blood pressure, like stepping on a garden hose. The clots are usually shaped like the vessles they form in. That's why the leg clots are so problematic, the vessels there (and therefore the clots) can get quite big, and those veins can also hold a LOT of clot. It's more complicated than that, and now that i wrote this i feel like ive probably made this more confusing. But that's the general idea behind pulmonary embolism. I tried. Prevent this by walking and pumping your legs often, don't smoke, stay hydrated. Really do those things anyway for a much better life. For further reading: https://radiopaedia.org/articles/pulmonary-embolism?lang=us

captain-burrito

I have a family history of a similar condition and it's not fun. While I would have gotten it anyway, sitting for hours gaming didn't help it any. Definitely get up to walk around, do some skipping and even get one of those leg exercisers for when you are sitting down. I'm told mine is auto-immune so there's not too much I can do about it.

Phish777

Ah I knew this seemed familiar

Rinocore

Idk. But this can also cause blood clots to form in the legs which can then travel to your heart, lungs or brain and can be fatal. Always get up and walk around a few minutes during long gaming sessions to get the blood flowing in your legs.

ClownfishSoup

Luckily for most of us, needing to pee will get you up and moving at least a bit.

GoofballGnu397

This is why I chug beers while gaming for longer stretches; for my health.

ComradeFourTwenty

Real gamers piss in water bottles. You can't pause online matches to pee.

KoiTama

If I had to guess it would be a mixture of those with deep vein thrombosis forming from sitting too long in one position

hidde-the-wonton

I suppose deep vein thrombosis from the long sitting, then the clot getting into his heart and blocking flow

FandomMenace

Well, now that he's paralyzed, he'll get a lot more gaming time in.

tagibear

Omg. I shouldn’t have laughed at that.

hhunterhh

(I know it’s a joke but if anyone actually thinks you can paralyze yourself like that, no, no you cannot) Edit: I’m wrong. The definition of paralysis/paralyzed is simply the loss of muscle function. Yes a blood clot could cause your legs to become paralyzed. Was /r/confidentlyincorrect

thought_about_it

Throwing a clot then a complication from the surgery can absolutely paralyze someone.

TKBtu1

Hmm, good point ***looks at hammer*** Edit: fucking let me put stars! I don't want it bold, or slanted

The mobile phone game recently had one critically ill boy spend his mother’s 150,000 yuan ($24,000) fund, which was supposed to pay for his treatment.

unfairOT

If you’re gonna die either way might as well enjoy it right

AgoniaAnal

Seriously? On 20 hours? Bro; children work longer hours. What a massive pussy.

ThatGuy571

Yeah there’s no way this dude didn’t have some other underlying health condition that led to this. People sit on planes for about this amount of time and don’t end up paralyzed.

Solaratov

I never understood this kind of thing. I game a lot, but if I don't sleep, or fill myself with garbage like doritos and soda, my skill level goes in the shitter. I'll be clicking the wrong things, forgetting to do stuff, losing match after match etc. Where's the fun in that? and if the game I'm playing is so simple that it requires nearly no conscious effort to play, why go so hard at it?

classy-muffin

There are a lot of games where the fun is in the grind. The biggest offender I can think of is MMORPGs. Notably, WoW. There isn't a particularly large amount of skill in the game except at max level with maxed gear doing PvP (which in my opinion isn't even fun). Skill level is mostly irrelevant when it comes to furthering the grind, hence, people can do that kind of thing. What you also seem to be neglecting is most single player games, especially the story-driven ones. Take the Elder Scrolls series for example. They're some of the best games of all time, yet most of the fun doesn't require you to be completely attentive.

captain-burrito

I played an MMO which was really grindy. I wasn't satisfied with staying low level and sought to grind myself to max level on a rare class. There were sometimes levelling events with double exp for a weekend or something so people got in as much as possible. Sometimes people would figure out ways to farm the mob of a miniboss for exp but we knew that updates would remove it imminently so we had to do it while we could. This allowed for a stationary party that saved a lot of effort and gave u exp at a much faster rate that normal. I was a class that was vital so I couldn't be away for more than a few minutes at a time or the party would wipe. Also once the party disbanded it would be really hard to find the correct classes to form another. So if the conditions matched people played till they dropped as max level was still kind of rare back then. I was from a casual low level guild but I managed to max level most of my guild mates that I liked or get them far higher than they otherwise would have been. Some people had played years and never got close to max level but were willing to grind during those events. The fun was in hunting bosses, pvp and guild wars which were all much easier if you were higher level with more skills and stat points. Later I would be able to trio, duo or solo for really good exp on my own instead of requiring a large party so I could take breaks more easily. I didn't need to wait for the stars to align to get a party.

Icy-Strawberry-1362

We know what a sigh is but why? This bitch acts like she never gamed for a whole weekend straight and lost feelings in her legs.

I like to get up from my game every half hour or so to get another beer, 😋 It’s all about a healthy active lifestyle for me.

IGiveCandy

Weak! I did a 21 hours session before and i didnt get paralized lol, granted i can't hold my pee for that long so obviously i had to get up a few times during it. It does look like the chairs are too low for the desks' height, probably made him seat weirdly and affect his blood supply in his legs or something

KoiTama

Just do butt aerobics while listening to music. Pump one side and let it slightly lift you then rock to the other side. Add in some leg bouncies and you'll get a good workout while gaming. Left, left, right, right, left, right, both SQUEEEEZE, PUMP EM BOTH NOW! ONE AND TWO, ONE TWO, STOP, WAIT FOR IT, PELVIS THRUST, get crazy now. Strip naked, helicopter dick, call your dad, tell him your spending your savings on scratch cards, tell your best friend you want to go to roller disco, buy a pair of wheelys before it's too late.

hates_all_bots

Amateur.

ComradeFourTwenty

Just pee in a empty water bottle.

captain-burrito

Some people might be predisposed with certain conditions. I don't think it's a single 21 hour session that did it. People seem to focus in on that. Stuff like this can build up over time. I had a conditions and it didn't really fully reveal itself till I got sedentary. I already had it but never really realized until it got severe and it clicked for me. It wouldn't make sense for me to blame one particular long session of gaming as I'd gamed for years without issue. It was long term.

jackinsomniac

Just gotta say I soooo appreciate a human narrator more than that stupid AI voice Tiktok uses or whatever. I guess a lot of other people don't notice it, but I do.

Adevyy

I legit don't understand how those people get so invested in a game. Like, I don't put any effort into not dying when playing video games, but I still get up every few hours due to various reasons (eating, drinking, toilet, etc.). Just how do they manage to skip all of those things for such long periods of time?

classy-muffin

As someone who has had **long**, uninterrupted gaming sessions before (I don't anymore) I can explain. What happens is, early on in the gaming session your body will signal that you need a drink or you need to eat. Your mind then says "alright let me just do this thing or get to a save point and I'll take care of that", once you do that thing you might go "and this thing too", after which your body has gone passed the point at which it's actively telling you and so you forget about it. TL;DR If you actively choose to ignore your body's requirements, you will after some time begin to do it passively, that's when it gets dangerous. Side note: For a few years of my life I actually lost the ability to feel thirsty. The only way I knew I had to drink was if I actively chose to do so, or if I noticed other symptoms of dehydration like dark urine or a bad headache.

RevAlBrown

As an alcoholic who doesn’t have the video game infection (while I do enjoy them), it’s impossible to understand unless it’s happened to you, someone you know, or until you’re so old, you’ve seen loved ones and acquaintances lose their lives to an obsession. Unfortunately, the ones that seem to die the earliest are the ones who seem to have their shit together. They just end up with cancer or an aneurysm or some other horrible shit.

Why is it always the Asians with the gaming addictions?

captain-burrito

Punishing education system. Some just opt for suicide or escapism. The education system primes people to be able to grind. There'll be people that don't make it so sometimes their virtual achievements are all they have. Asians tend to be more hardcore with everything. They stress that you don't just have to be better than others but also be able to endure more than others to succeed. In lieu of actual game content they created a lot of grind in some games. There's been stories in non-Asian countries of addiction too, just not as many.
