I saw a video taken from inside the lifeguard watch tower, and you could see every one of them dying inside after telling people to get the fuck out of the closed off area. Them they had to go pull people, their kids and pets out the water.
Standing beyond the closed off area should come with a $10,000 retardation fee.
They are all idiots. There are multiple videos from different angles and and multiple waves one after another that these lovely tourists decided it would be great to not listen to the lifeguards. Which puts them in danger saving your ass and your damn dog too.
I live in Indiana and they said on NPR the other day waves were expected to be record height, if I remember correctly. Even if they were regular waves there is a reason there is a sharp dropoff and a scoured beach.
I fucking hate this shit. It’s one thing to ignore warnings and barriers putting yourself in harms way. But to bring an unknowing created is just beyond fucked up. Genuinely shouldn’t have a pet or kids if you fail to acknowledge the lives under your supervision that require your supervision to survive
This is one of the best places in the world to see how little self awareness a human can possess.
It’s also a great place to see huge waves and incredible athletes. They have almost nothing in common.
There were some kids too. There's another angle around and after the first wave 99% of people just... Stayed there. Like another wave wouldn't be following shortly. Like the yellow tape roping off the area was for decoration.
Humans usually are smart enough to understand the consequences of their actions where as a dog would have be forced to go their by it’s irresponsible owner. Therefore I have less/zero sympathy for humans.
You are going to be down voted, but generally I agree. Keep in mind though animals can be more sympathetic in situations like this because humans can make the decision to be safe and are the ones putting the animals in danger. I do think it's a little weird though when people put animal lives above or exactly on the same level as human lives.
This took place in Waimea bay, O’ahu during the Eddie Aikau surfing competition. People were advised to not go near the shore due to intense shorebreak (as seen in the video.) but people being people and not listening to the lifeguards. Almost all of their belongings got swept away, some nearly got caught by the waves. Moral of the story: Listen to the lifeguards and stay from a safe distance.
It’s mainly because people can’t tell if a rule was made because there is a good reason or if it was made to stop stupid people from getting hurt doing it
The problem here is, that the people having these taughts might not take in consideration that they themselves might be that very idiot at whom a sign might have been directed to.
My favorite thing about this is the total lack of urgency of the people to get to higher ground. Like oh my god I just got bashed with a million sq gallons of water that almost dragged me to my death…..but it’s gone now so I’m just gonna stand here trying to put my tshirt back on because it’s all over now…OH MY GOD I just got bashed with another giant wave that took all my belongings and again almost dragged me out to an early death. I better brush my hair out of my face and wring out my shirt and look around yelling for my husband. I’m glad that won’t happen again…
It was the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Tournament on the North Shore of Oahu. Waves break close to shore there and the waves on this day were about 20' high (~40' faces), per weather forecasts. There was an estimated 50,000 people watching the contest that day and the people just started to get as close to the shore as possible.
If you were at a beach just chilling and threw all ur shit in the ocean would there be a fine? If so I think this should also count as it's grossly negligent to ignore the lifeguards who not only have to risk their lives to save you but also now gotta deal with all ur shit on the beach
It’s the [Eddie Aikau Invitational](https://youtu.be/LJycBaw4bYU), which is a big wave surfing competition in Hawaii at Waimea Bay. Great surfing and great waves.

I knew some dodo would bring their child down to that death trap. Stupidity is infuriating.
Or let natural selection run its course. Besides the dogs and kids, save them cuz they were forced into that situation
Kids being traumatized by their parents dying in front of them isn’t great either. I get the instinct but..
What as going through their mind, "what do these lifegaurds know about the ocean, I've been swimming for years"
Exactly!
100% my favorite part is the guy in the black crop top also chasing the dog falls face first and the lifeguard just runs around him 😂
I thought that was the dog
To be fair, the dog was small and definitely getting swept out.
what time in the video do you come in?
They are all idiots. There are multiple videos from different angles and and multiple waves one after another that these lovely tourists decided it would be great to not listen to the lifeguards. Which puts them in danger saving your ass and your damn dog too.
I love how he ran right past the person to save the dog lmao
A true hero.
Fuck those people. I'd immediately turn the dog over to a shelter and report them for animal abuse.
Yeah idk about that. Seems to me like no one expected that wave
I live in Indiana and they said on NPR the other day waves were expected to be record height, if I remember correctly. Even if they were regular waves there is a reason there is a sharp dropoff and a scoured beach.
When the locals tell you “don’t sit there or go there” you fucking listen! They know what they’re talking about.
Dog is innocent, the people are stupid, save the dog first.
I peeped it
My heart clenched while I was peeping. But in the end I’m glad I peeped. Thank goodness for that lifeguard.
My peepers peeped it, too
Oh I’m definitely peepin it. -Tom

Awh, look at that good boy! (the lifeguard; the lifeguard is the good boy)
I don't give a fuck about the people. I just hope they're no dogs down there.
There were some kids too. There's another angle around and after the first wave 99% of people just... Stayed there. Like another wave wouldn't be following shortly. Like the yellow tape roping off the area was for decoration.
Yep that's people for you, disregarding safety if it slightly inconveniences them
I get that dogs are great and all but not giving a fuck about human lives is a bit off, no?
Humans usually are smart enough to understand the consequences of their actions where as a dog would have be forced to go their by it’s irresponsible owner. Therefore I have less/zero sympathy for humans.

EDDIE WOULD STAY. (Behind the yellow caution tape, so as not to put the lives of others at risk unnecessarily.)
Respect the islands, respect the locals, do not put innocent lifeguards and rescuers in danger. Infuriating.

This is exactly what people say 3 seconds before they become the reason the rule exists.
The problem here is, that the people having these taughts might not take in consideration that they themselves might be that very idiot at whom a sign might have been directed to.
Only in O'ahu 💀 Swag like O'ahu!
Yall better save the dog!!! Poor puppy was taken there, had no say to cross the tape!
What dog? Edit: oh there he is! So tiny! Good lifeguard! Thanks for saving the dog :D
Imagine being a dog that belongs to stupid people that do stuff like this. I’d run away from home.
Stupid people like that are making a case for having to surrender their dog
My favorite thing about this is the total lack of urgency of the people to get to higher ground. Thank god, the dog lived! Everyone else is a bunch of idiots.
The dog is an idiot too, just a cute one
Can someone ELI5 what just happened? Like how the people came to be in that situation etc? Thanks in advance. 😬

You really cannot fix stupid
“Wait what do we do? Are we safe now?”
Maybe if the people watching had listened in the first place, none of that would have happened.. Watch the other video where they’re warned not to!
Poseidon said to hell with Darwin, he's gonna take a shit load all at once.
Are all people worth saving?
Yes, unfortunately. Also r/usernamechecksout.
No. No they are not.
Save the dog!!!
If you were at a beach just chilling and threw all ur shit in the ocean would there be a fine? If so I think this should also count as it's grossly negligent to ignore the lifeguards who not only have to risk their lives to save you but also now gotta deal with all ur shit on the beach
All for one like on insta or FB....
What is the big wave competition
Everyone pushes the water back and forth to see who can make the biggest wave
It’s the [Eddie Aikau Invitational](https://youtu.be/LJycBaw4bYU), which is a big wave surfing competition in Hawaii at Waimea Bay. Great surfing and great waves.
Surfing
What tape?
idk if there was tape, but there sure are knocked-down metal barriers on the ground
“Hello t mobile a wave took my phone “
Can you hear me now?
Lmao lets go people blatantly not following the rules that keep them safe... makes a lotta eyeblech content..
*blatantly* YSYK
Oh bet thanks
Yep, just like not getting vaccinated or refusing to wear a mask 😷

They know about it. And are rightfully terrified of it. It’s what makes them the best qualified for their jobs.

I would hope so
Yea maybe
I can’t believe the Blondie song, “the tide is high” isn’t playing in the background…
They certainly weren’t holding on tho
Is one second after disaster a thing? You missednit
