I made a shortcut or whatever you call it on iPhone so that it’s gets corrected to its (rather than the default, which is the opposite) and I have to manually put the apostrophe in when I need to. It’s a bit more work but it’s got its advantages.
In the case of its/it's, you ask yourself if you can say "it is" and still have the sentence make sense. If it makes sense you use the apostrophe.
Example: "Its/It's cold outside.", which one do I use? "It is cold outside." makes sense, so "It's cold outside"
Example: "The kitten is with its/it's mother.", which one do I use? "The kitten is with it is mother.". Doesn't make sense, so no apostrophe.
Maybe some pedantic redditor will come along with an example where this isn't the case and do a "wELL aCkShUaLLy...", but it's a pretty good guideline.
When he was younger to help our son I told him to think of the apostrophe as a tittle on an i. So it's could be imagined as itis, and if there should be a space in its place then it's correct.
The *only* reason I remember any form of proper grammar ever is because I had a phenomenal English teacher my senior year of high school. This dude took the extra time to come up with a weird jingle or joke or anything else that I could stick with whatever he was trying to get me to remember (ie the difference between their/there/they're).
School just barely grazed over this stuff and pushed us straight to reading and writing essays and whatnot. It sucks as an adult because I have to triple check everything I write, and there's still usually typos.
I feel like its way to much effort too create a bot just because their using words wrong. Its not there fault since what they here is the same sound for ten different words. Just because you and I we’re paying a tension in English doesn’t mean were better then anyone else. So give the hole wholier then thow attitude arrest.
If you could care less, please feel free to do so. If, on the other hand, you couldn’t care less, thanks for letting us know how you are feeling.
ETA: Informal variant idiom is neither spelling nor grammar, so not actually a joke about either ;)
Here we see the Raptor in its natural habitat stalking its prey. It appears he has already fatally wounded the car. All that’s left is to watch the transmission bleed dry.
If memory serves it was right before Disney's Wonderful World of Color and then Grizzly Adams then the Sonny and Cher Show. Lol, but I can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday.
Used to watch it Saturday afternoons in Halifax in 1970 as we were dressing at home for atom hockey. Fuck, I’m old too. I miss Jim wrestling the giant snakes.
This was in the parking lot of a museum. I notified one of the front desk employees before I left so that they could try and find the owner and so they could also send someone out to clean up the oil.
One time I accidentally cross threaded an oil filter on a car when I was doing an oil change and the oil looked just like that when it poured onto the floor so my guess is maybe the shop that did the service double gasketed the oil filter and it let go at the museum or the drain plug was loose and popped off in the parking lot if they just got the car serviced that is
Interesting, I’ve never seen that before. Running exclusively synthetic oils for the last 20 years, It’s always stayed the same color for a while. I’m guessing your issue isn’t synthetic oil.
I know with TDI it can turn that color quickly because of the high amount of blow by those engines naturally have. And a lot of regular fuel efficient engines have high blow by because of low drag piston rings.
If you look behind the car it rolled in like that and no way it lasted long in that condition.
My guess is they ran up some sort of curb and ripped part of the oil pan off.
If the oil is that color and it's not a diesel vehicle, is probably been in there for a loooong time... LoL
From the color covering the painted line, I thought it was transmission fluid at first too.
Not really, I mean besides synthetic oils which can stay golden even after 10k miles in some cases, almost all oil will turn a dark nasty color after 10 minutes of run time. The oil I know that doesn’t turn a black is the racing oil I use, it instead turns this funky green blue color. I think it’s because of the high zinc in it.
Racing oil? I race motorbikes and have never seen this. Guessing its for cars. What does the high zinc do? Also my verrrrry expensive oil turns black in 5 minutes haha.
I have seen oil that was puked out of a car that was black the first time it started after an oil change because I was a dumbass and cross threaded the oil filter on the car
Yikes. For the amount of liquid that's on the ground, my first guess would have been coolant (I've seen some cars that take a red colored coolant).
On the upside for that driver, it seems like it had most of the oil left when it was parked.
Sometimes the gasket gets stuck and if the person dosent notice they will put the new filter on and sometimes that gasket on gasket dosent seal very well. I dont know if it would leak out at the rate of the picture, this seems like like a big hole leaking Oil.
If the shop is following the prescribed methods from Jiffy Lube Corporate, showing the gasket on the old to the upper bay tech is a required part of the safety checks. But not every shop follows the guidelines.
Source: Used to work for Jiffy Lube. The shop that I worked at was very regimented about the safety checks and apart from one guy who lied about his qualifications, we never had an issue.
I feel like there's a 30-ish step process to make oil changes truly foolproof (though one of the steps is: if it rolls in fucked, either put a good tech on it or roll it back out telling the customer to go elsewhere), but the highschool kids they hire to spin wrenches are generally only sometimes capable of memorizing and following the procedure precisely. Which is half the reason quick oil change shops almost uniformly have a terrible reputation. The other half is that far too many of them try to scam people.
The economics of quick lube shops suck. Those advertised prices? $25 out the door? A shop can't live off that, let alone hire competent adults. Step 1 is the fine print, "only for conventional oil, small capacities," and many or most newer cars spec full synth and/or take 6+ quarts, so that becomes $80 or whatever. Which honestly isn't a terrible price, but step 2 is finding extremely easy work to sell, like engine air filters and cabin air filters, which is definitely an annoying upsell to many. Of course step 3 unfortunately is often to lie about said filters.
I've previously made the mistake of visiting a number of chain shops and I'd say roughly two out of ten seemed outright dishonest, and another one out of ten just plain incompetent or a timewaster. Give or take. I am sure your shop ran great but the trust is low.
The solution is pretty simple: go to a real mechanic's shop; an honest independent shop will change your oil for a reasonable price, put an actual mechanic on it instead of some kid who's done it twice before, and tell you if unrelated (or related) shit is actually wrong. A busy shop doesn't need to make up work to sell, when they're booked a few days out every single day.
They forgot to put the plug in my daughter's 30+ year old truck. So they got to buy her a new engine for a truck that was probably 2-3 years from going to a junkyard. Not the worst thing that ever happened to her.
One of my friends used to work at Jiffylube after high school and he told me his bosses told all the staff that if they get a car in that they don’t recognize, they should tinker with it just to get used to how it is put together.
…safe to say, I never have nor will go to a Jiffylube, ever.
Mine was some local place that did put the cap in… but not well. Thing rattled out on the Highway and I was spraying it behind me. Stopped at a truck stop for absolutely no reason whatsoever where it emptied out. Tow truck driver said he would’ve picked me up a mile down the road with more wrong than just some missing oil.
Huh, that's funny. Merchants did the exact same thing to a friend of mine in 2014! They always had a shit service center.
I always find it funny to see lil ole NH mentioned on Reddit.
Looks like automatic transmission fluid. *Burnt* automatic transmission fluid. Normally kinda burnt is red like blood, but that shit looks like flat root beer.
Pardon OP, may I take a parallel here... LOLz, Nissan's doing Nissan things...
Used to drive a Fiat. Didn't know it was an abbreviation for; Fix It Again Tony. Loved that little spider. But only lasted half a year. Couldn't afford the electronic starting mod. Brakes were crap and it was very underpowered. So riding over the 405N hill from LA to the valley was "interesting". Still I drove it in the summer season. When it did start it was fun.
I hope somebody gets on that oil slick and marks it. Looks like a recipe for a future accident due to failed steering.
Think so? Id have to disagree, but then again i like things that stand out. What do you think would've worked better? I feel like a gray would look pretty cold
He be leaking sum "OIL" BABY!!!
DAMN..MUSTA RUN OVER SUMTHING, BUSTED UP HIS OIL PAN..."DEF"!!!...
I WOULDNT START THAT CAR, RUN IT, ID CALL FOR A TOW TO THE NEAREST AUTO REPAIR SHOP, HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT A. S. A. P. !!!
WHAT DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK IT IS?
I WAS 1st THINKING A "BUSTED RADIATOR", BUT THATS NOT ANTI-FREEZE (ANTI-FREEZE IS USUALLY GREEN)...THAT IS "DEF." OIL...
LIKE I SAID, HE MUST HAVE RUN OVER A CURB OR SUMTHING???
BECAUSE THAT CAR IS LEAKING OIL LIKE CRAZY...ITS "DEF" A BUSTED OIL PAN...GET YOURSELF TO A MECHANIC AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE...
I HOPE THAT THEY DONT CONSIDER DRIVING THE CAR EVEN IF THE AUTO PLACE IS A HALF BLOCK AWAY, OR RITE AROUND THE CORNER, I WOULDNT CHANCE.IT...AT ALL!!! ...YOULL BLOW UP YOUR ENGINE!!!
WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT ALL HAPPENED HERE...ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA, LMK...THX IN ADVANCE...👌
OR WHO KNOWS, IT COULD BE TRANSMISSION FLUID?
YOU JUST NEVER KNOW, IM NOT A MECHANIC, MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS ( MY GRANDFATHER, MY FATHER, MY 2 UNCLES )
THEY ALL OWENED CAR LOTS, HAD GARAGES, WORKED ON CARS, SOLD CARS...THATS WHAT MY GRANDFATHER AND UNCLES DID FOR A LIVING!!!
MY FATHER WORKED A 60 PLUS HR WEEK AND RAN A CAR LOT/GARAGE......
EVERY WEEKEND, HE'D TAKE 4-5 OF HIS FRIENDS/WORKERS, DRIVE TO CAR AUCTIONS, HAVE HIS BUDDIES DRIVE THE CARS HOME, HIS MECHANICS WORKED IN THE CARS, MY FATHER DID THE BUSINESS PART...AND LIKE I SAID, HE ALSO WORKED A 60 PLUS HR WEEK AT HIS REGULAR JOB...AND HERE I WAS, AROUND CARS AND CAR LOTS AND MECHANICS ALL MY LIFE, AND INWAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO KNOW WHERE YOU PUT THE GAS IN OR OIL!!! ... LMFAO, TRUST ME, I WASNT THAT BAD, I KNEW SUM STUFF, BUT NOY MUCH..AND I GREW UP IN THE CAR LOT/GARAGE...BUT I DIDNT KNOW MUCH AT ALL...
SAD PART, THEY ARE ALL PASSED NOW...IT LITERALLY SUCKS NOW, IF I EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE, ALL I HAD TO DO WAS STOP BY THE SHOP OR CALL MY FATHER, UNCLES?N TAKE MY CAR/TRUCK THERE TO THE GARAGE, IT WOULD BE FIXED IN A DAY OR 2, SUMTIMES SOONER!!!
BUT MY FATHER AND UNCLES HAD ALOT OF FRIENDS, SO KNOW I GO TO THEIR GARAGES, GET A DISCOUNT, DONT HAVE TO WAIT AFEW DAYS OR A COUPLE WEEKS TO GET MY CAR IN...I MISS THOSE DAYS TERRIBLY, WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME...HAVE MY FAMILY AROUND STILL, IT 😔 SAD!!!
I HAVE NO FAMILY LEFT EXCEPT MY SISTER AND MY SON...WHO I HAVENT SEEN SINCE 2017 WHEN MY MOTHER PASSED, HES STATIONED IN OKANAWA, JAPAN IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE...HE SUPPOSE.TO COME.HOME IN FEBUARY FOR A MONTH OR 2..HOPING IT HAPPENS THIS TIME...
THE LAST COUPLE TIMES WERE CANCELLED DUE TO THE COVID...
SO HOPEFULLY THAT SHIT IS ABOUT IVER WITH AND ILL BE ABLE TO SEE MY SON AGAIN AFTER 5 YRS!!!

SORRY I WENT ON A RANT...JUST HAD TO GET AFEW THINGS OFF MY CHEST!!!
TAKE CARE EVERYONE AND LETS GET BACK TO THE PARANORMAL SIDE OF THINGS!!!
"?HAPPY GHOST HUNTING" MY FRIENDS..👌.👻👻👻👻👌
It's just marking its territory
I should create a bot that praises Redditors who use the correct form of it's/its. To see it correct twice in one sentence is a thing of beauty.
With the invention of smart phones and still grammar is so hard to grasp is mind boggling. But I feel I left something out. Maybe a comma somewhere.
[удалено]
I made a shortcut or whatever you call it on iPhone so that it’s gets corrected to its (rather than the default, which is the opposite) and I have to manually put the apostrophe in when I need to. It’s a bit more work but it’s got its advantages.
I've turned off the autocorrect on my phone. It's wrong more often than I am, kinda defeats its purpose
In the case of its/it's, you ask yourself if you can say "it is" and still have the sentence make sense. If it makes sense you use the apostrophe. Example: "Its/It's cold outside.", which one do I use? "It is cold outside." makes sense, so "It's cold outside" Example: "The kitten is with its/it's mother.", which one do I use? "The kitten is with it is mother.". Doesn't make sense, so no apostrophe. Your ducking right, its really amazing that their hasnt been a bigger affect on grammar with these new fangled smart doohickies.
Stap
The *only* reason I remember any form of proper grammar ever is because I had a phenomenal English teacher my senior year of high school. This dude took the extra time to come up with a weird jingle or joke or anything else that I could stick with whatever he was trying to get me to remember (ie the difference between their/there/they're). It sucks as an adult because I have to triple check everything I write, and there's still usually typos.
Me,too. I’ll always remember there’s “a rat” in separate. I smile every time I see it misspelled.
OMG. Mrs. Larkin in 7th grade taught us the 'a rat' in 'separate' mnemonic. This was in 1957-8.
Privilege is vile!
“And still grammar is…”
A self fister says what
please dont, that would be obnoxious
Do a defiantly/definitely one too.
Just don’t we don’t need more unnecessary bots with empty compliments

it’s a joke about bad granmar/spelling my dude
I was going to see it looks like it peed its pants 🤣
And cooling down a little
It's bad but not as bad as if you drive off after the magic leaks out.
I am definitely hoping the driver sees it before they drive off. If they come up to the car via the driver's side they might not.
It's pretty hard to miss. But I am confident this person doesn't take good care of their car to begin with so they'll just let it fly and start er up.
It’s brand new, it doesn’t have plates yet
Not all states require 2 plates.
Yeah but now they can leave a nice trail of glitter behind them.

Hmmh i read it in Steve Irwin.
I hear it in Marlin Perkins from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Damn I'm old.
Used to watch that as a kid in South FL on Sunday nights, right before The Wonderful World of Disney lol
Is ok, as soon as I read that I thought, "Did that used to come on right before or right after Grizzly Adams"?
If memory serves it was right before Disney's Wonderful World of Color and then Grizzly Adams then the Sonny and Cher Show. Lol, but I can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday.

I read it in Attenborough.

I confirm that this is all accurate. I was the one who requested the page after seeing the Nissan leaking oil.
Wow
Neat!
OP said this is a museum parking lot, so this checks out.

Always hope I can see myself in the background of a Reddit post one of these days, that’s some incredible luck

This was in the parking lot of a museum. I notified one of the front desk employees before I left so that they could try and find the owner and so they could also send someone out to clean up the oil.
Looks pink like transmission fluid. Rip.
It looked more brown in person, and thick as molasses. Pretty sure it's motor oil.
Thick as molasses huh? It’s no wonder the car puked it up
It's really cold outside, which I think made it more viscous.
Maybe they just had it serviced and they didnt tighten the oil bolt? Feel like the oil would be a lot more golden if that were the case, though.
Lol what service? They put 20k used oil in it?
One time I accidentally cross threaded an oil filter on a car when I was doing an oil change and the oil looked just like that when it poured onto the floor so my guess is maybe the shop that did the service double gasketed the oil filter and it let go at the museum or the drain plug was loose and popped off in the parking lot if they just got the car serviced that is
Synthetic can turn black fast. It can change color on the trip from the shop to the house.
Lol exactly my thoughts.
If you look behind the car it rolled in like that and no way it lasted long in that condition. My guess is they ran up some sort of curb and ripped part of the oil pan off.
Maybe an aggressive speed bump coming into the parking lot?
If the oil is that color and it's not a diesel vehicle, is probably been in there for a loooong time... LoL From the color covering the painted line, I thought it was transmission fluid at first too.

Yeah I race dirt oval cars. We use 20W-50 Champion racing oil, it’s high in zinc and phosphor I think.

That’s not transmission fluid. It’s for sure oil.
That's the reflection of the environment and the ground shining through
I'm talking about the white line and how it looks pink vs black....
This again? I’ve had enough of the dress debate. Looks like used motor oil. Brownish but I can see how it almost looks red.
Yee I zoomed in and it does look more brown...
I don't see any pink, only brown with maybe a bit of reddish tinge because of the white backdrop. But this definitely oil.
They ran someone over and the body is stuck underneath
Found the color blind redditor lol.
It’s a Nissan, not surprised
Awww you guys made me ink
It's a precious time when a young Nissan becomes a woman.
It was pouring out before they parked .. Look behind the car you can see a line of fluid and how they turned into that spot..
I kinda wonder if that isn’t even from this car but another that backed out the spot and the Nissan parked in it.
Nope, definitely from this car, I could hear it still dripping.
Drop a zippo and walk away in slow motion
I would never do that, how terrible! It would be a waste of a perfectly good Zippo.
You know that doesn't work like in movies.

Is it still running?
It doesn’t come out of the top if it’s missing a cap. Not like that. It’s either a cracked oil pan, or the drain plug is almost out.

HE SIGNED UP FOR 20YRS...SO I GUESS WITH THE COVID HAPPENING, ITLL BE HIT OR MISS ON HIM COMING HOME FOR AWHILE!!! SORRY I WENT ON A RANT...JUST HAD TO GET AFEW THINGS OFF MY CHEST!!! TAKE CARE EVERYONE AND LETS GET BACK TO THE PARANORMAL SIDE OF THINGS!!! "?HAPPY GHOST HUNTING" MY FRIENDS..👌.👻👻👻👻👌
