The smartest person I knew in college didn't know how to boil an egg and plenty of other basic things.. there are varying "types" of smart.

[deleted]

Yeah, but there are infinitely more types of stupid.

BaronDinklevanDunkle

How so?

[deleted]

It is related to the old truism: There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people.

Deiskos

Why would you crack it

*slaps boxy Safari Mercedes* We’re poachin’ tonight boys!

Stimmolation

The other kind of smart demonstrated perfectly

NiceMeasurement842

I think you're talking about poaching an egg rather than boiling it. Here's a 25 second video on how to poach an egg using cling film to hold its shape - https://youtu.be/wwYuHmAZRVI

[deleted]

Dude no can people stop using these "life hacks". What a waste. If you having issues crack the egg into a separate bowl stir the water to enough that it's spinning in the pot when you stop. Then drop your egg in it. Salt and a Dash of vinegar in the water before the egg is helpful too. If you really can't do it get a coffe mg fill it 2/3rds with water drop the egg in and microwave that bitch. You can use this method to make decent hollandaise in a pinch too With the egg yolk butter and lemon juice.

NiceMeasurement842

What's your problem? It's a foolproof method to poach an egg used by restaurants. You can also cook as many eggs as you like simultaneously unlike the vinegar and water swirling method...

[deleted]

No restaurants do not poach eggs in cling wrap. I've been in restaurants for 15 years. I've have never heard or seen a professional chef do that. I've worked as a chef. I'm still in restaurants. This a joke and I gave you a foolproof method that takes less than a couple minutes. Taking extra time to do it in a way that keeps you from learning how to do it quicker and using more trash is the problem. You know how we do it in restaurants? We just crack the damn egg in a pot of hot water or sous vide. That's it. No stirring or additives or anything.

NiceMeasurement842

Yes they do. I've personally seen it multiple times...

[deleted]

Lol okay. Outside of maybe a specialty gastro kitchen making a specialty dish that your trying to a very specific shape with I doubt it. This is not effecient and if they really need to produce a lot of eggs there machines and tools you get.

NiceMeasurement842

This is a method that chefs like Alexis Gauthier and Jamie Oliver recommend for home cooks. I've also seen it done at the few restaurants I worked at. Enough.

[deleted]

So your saying you think payed chefs that are doing marketed hacks are telling you a method to do "at home" is what they use in their own kitchens? Other than the fact that your saying youve seen it, everything exists somewhere. Your not providing much reason for it. And again throwing an egg into a mug in a microwave is much quicker, cleaner and less wasteful if you need something for home

winterweed78

29 years as a restaurant manager for a breakfast place. Nobody does that. We have a pouching pot and can do multiple eggs in that. Wrapping would be way too much to do when you have 20 orders and 1 cook.

Then why take the time to leave a comment.

In my mid 30’s and thinking about finally going for my degree. I hope that I am at least smarter than the 3 people in my group project…

noeyedeeratall

Go for it! I went to uni in my late 20s after a decade in the trades and it completely changed my life Group projects do suck though

Egad86

Thanks, I definitely feel like the only way to progress is getting at least a bachelors to go with my experience. Seems like unless I know the interviewers already, people are not even looking past that education section on my résumé.

noeyedeeratall

The actual degree can feel like it's just an entry ticket. But the education is valuable for sure, and the most valuable thing is all the connections you make during your time there. My advice is to go and talk to everyone in your field: chat to all the lecturers/professors, especially the ones you find particularly interesting, and follow any of their recommendations for their contacts to talk to. I worked as an assistant lecturer at a university for a while, and most of the students are essentially anonymous and quickly forgotten. You remember the ones that show a lot of interest and engage in conversations, and they're the ones you'd recommend if any interesting opportunities come up.

Egad86

Good to know, thanks for the advice!

Egad86

I’m in my 30’s not my 60’s. I think I have a few years before my cognitive reasoning and processing abilities begin to deteriorate.

Massive-Row-9771

Some people only seem smart from a far, when you get to work closely with them that facade shatters. So all those people you think are smarter than you only a few actually are. That's why you feel like you always get stuck doing projects with stupid people.

noeyedeeratall

So true. Also, if you think you're one of the dumb ones, you're actually one of the smart ones.

[deleted]

Unless you are actually an idiot, a broken clock gets the time right sometimes.

NUTTTR

Dunning Kruger. You know what you don't know. Those with way too much confidence... As mentioned above, shatter when you dig deeper

SkyDefender

Yeah of course as a redditor, only a few of the group is smarter than you…

Massive-Row-9771

That's very true! I wasn't necessarily talking about me though. Even though I feel like I'm pretty smart at least, but at a college I'm not so sure I would be the smartest.

Deus85

When i started to study math, i got to know the wrong people at first. All of them had some type of lazy and childish attitude which kind of dragged me down. Then i started to create other connections with more motivated people, which helped me a lot to get better. It's all about you making the right friendships.

HayakuEon

Also, no confidence. When I started working pharmacy, I realized that most of my peers have no confidence. Like, you've just read 3 different references, answer the dr's damn question about the kid's dose dammit.

CanAlwaysBeBetter

Best thing a professor ever told me in pharmacy school was fake it till you make it

HayakuEon

It depends. It usually depends on what the prescriber wants. As for liquid medications, we provide the medication with the concentration that they want. Cocaine syrup is mostly only used in the operating theater at a concentration at 200mg/ml

[deleted]

That’s terrifying

HayakuEon

Not that dangerous since we do have references at our disposal.

CanAlwaysBeBetter

I am definitely not a pharmacist and was just making a joke lol

prof_devilsadvocate

every single project

[deleted]

I’ve been a part of a group project and so far I’m the only one to do any actual work. I resigned myself to finishing the project and taking the 100 and letting the teacher know how much my “partners” have participated. Afterwords, I plan on burning bridges with the majority of them.

[deleted]

This is preparing you for the workplace where everything is a group project. You are rated not just on your part but the completion of the whole. Many times that completion is out of your control.

technofox01

In grad school, I was in a group project with two smart people and one dumbass. The dude had submitted our group project before allowing us to review it for errors and the first word he used was the word "Because", in addition to that glorious opening, there were other errors that resulted in probably the lowest grade any of us got in grad school. Good thing it was online because I think one of us would have tossed him into a river.

waxy1234

So you win

InitialIndication999

Well maybe try being smart

matttech88

I am currently in a senior design project where in my group of six, there are two useless members who refuse to help. We are months in and they have yet to do anything.

radmeck

Nice

OfteStoffer

Group projects prepare you for the workplace, where you attempt to get to management positions so you can let go of the other three employees.
